Denn Krisen kommen. Fragen kommen. Our guest on Episode 195 is the Jesus Freak Computer Geek, David Beverley Sr., not to be mistaken with David Beverly! David is a minister, author, and speaker who integrates theology, cultural critique, and personal insight to challenge conventional thinking and encourage deeper faith in Christ. Nina Hagen is a true legend. She's considered an icon of German culture. And she's known as "the Godmother of German Punk." But our interview with her revealed that she also should be considered a longtime Jesus Freak. Her latest album, "Highway To Heaven" was released earlier in 2026.--Do you have a Christian rock story to tell? Want to respond to this episode? What happens when the Jesus Freak generation grows up and looks at the state of modern Christianity? Mike Erre and Tim Stafford dive into the messy intersection of faith, politics, and ancient cosmology in this wide-ranging conversation. From the fallout of 90s Christian celebrity culture to the current consumerism surrounding religious holidays, this episode explores why so many are feeling disillusioned with the modern church. The discussion moves into a deep critique of religious rhetoric within the American government and the recent America Reads the Bible event. Mike and Tim ask the hard questions: How do we remain invitational and hopeful amidst cultural carnage? How do we distinguish between the eternal truths of scripture and the cultural husks used to deliver them?A significant portion of this episode is dedicated to a listener question about the Lord's Prayer. By diving back into Genesis 1 and ancient Hebrew cosmology, Mike explains the concept of the Rakia, the waters above and below, and what it truly means to pray for God's will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. This deep dive into the highest heavens versus the atmospheric heavens provides a fresh perspective on God's status and presence in our world today. If you're interested in scheduling Spiritual Coaching sessions with Tim, email: tim at voxpodcast dot com, with COACHING in the subject line :) Chapters:0:00 Intro and Neighborhood Banter3:12 DC Talk and the Jesus Freak Legacy8:15 Consumerism and Easter Productions13:40 Religious Language in Modern Politics19:25 The Government and Resurrection Sunday26:10 The Vatican and US Political Responses32:45 America Reads the Bible Movement38:20 Staying Invitational Amidst Deconstruction45:15 Peacemaking and Reintegrating the Deceived50:40 Announcement Tim Stafford Spiritual Coaching54:20 Your Will Be Done on Earth59:35 Ancient Cosmology and the Rakia1:04:50 The Waters Above and the Highest Heavens1:09:10 Divine Revelation vs Cultural Husks1:12:45 Conclusion and OutroAs always, we encourage and would love discussion as we pursue. When I say that S.E. Tschritter has a heart of gold, trust me on that! Our chat was both warm and deeply meaningful. I felt truly honored to connect with someone so kind and empathetic. I thoroughly enjoyed my conversation with Samantha, I didn't want to stop speaking with her. One of the best conversations. Sam E. Tschritter (pronounced Shridder) is a celebrated author with multiple awards to her name. She focuses on expressing grief and loss, guiding those in pain towards hope and healing. Through her poetry, fiction, and non-fiction, Tschritter creates work that resonates powerfully with readers long after the final page is turned. With over 20 years of leadership experience and contributions to more than 40 books, she speaks her truths with candor, humor, and genuine love. Growing up in Chicagoland and having lived in Minnesota and Oregon, Tschritter has a rich tapestry of perspectives from across the nation. Nestled in Simpsonville, South Carolina, she shares her home with her husband, their three daughters navigating the teen and preteen years, two playful cats named Pitter and Patter, and a spirited Siberian husky, affectionately named Onomatopoeia (a name she lost the voting for!). For Tschritter, there's nothing quite like the rejuvenating magic of gardening. It's her go-to escape for tackling those pesky plot holes, getting through writer's block, shaping characters, and brainstorming book concepts. Gardening truly holds a special place in her heart and occupies a significant chunk of her time!Samantha Evans' book, "The Prodigal's Son: Crackhead to Jesus Freak," recounts a life-altering night that began at 1:30 a.m. with a phone call that no spouse ever wants to receive. “Mrs. Evans, a sergeant from the police department here. There's been an accident.” Just six hours later, another devastating call followed: “Mrs. Evans, a nurse from the hospital. We discovered something concerning in the CAT scan.” That Sunday, instead of delivering his sermon, Pastor Clint Evans found himself facing jail time, grappling with a BAC of .24, a cancer diagnosis, and a felony charge for fleeing from the police. "The Prodigal's Son: Crackhead to Jesus Freak" is an inspiring tale of a Christian's relentless struggle with demons, addictions, and feelings of unworthiness. This narrative showcases a God who shines brightly, bestowing grace upon a man often deemed "unredeemable." The Prodigal's Son bursts open the church doors wide, welcoming society's misfits and urging the devout to rethink how they measure their own spiritual worth against those struggling with addiction, homelessness, and despair. Journeying from gutter to pulpit, from grace to the grave, this powerful narrative reveals the depth of God's relentless love for those society often overlooks. It also tells the story of a pastor facing the consequences of drunk driving, shedding light on the devastating impact of alcoholism on families. Many suffer in silence: 'My wife hid her addiction from me' and 'My husband concealed his alcoholism.' The struggle with drug addiction touches millions. Was ist Purity Culture eigentlich? Using his testimony as a starting point, this message tackles Jacob's assigned theme: how prophecy and evangelism are inseparably linked. Anchoring the talk in Isaiah 1:18 (“Come now, let us reason together”), he argues that the gospel is not a blind leap but intellectually credible and historically defensible, contrasting it with what he portrays as religion's subjective claims and man-made attempts to reach God. Drawing from his own background in 1960s counterculture, leftist politics, science-minded skepticism, and occult involvement, he describes how the “Jesus Freak” revival confronted him with evidence he could not dismiss—especially fulfilled messianic prophecies and external historical attestations that forced him from trying to disprove Christianity to accepting Christ. He critiques alternative religious systems and Christian counterfeits, then pivots to end-times themes—Israel's centrality, geopolitical convergence, cultural decay, and deception within the church—to emphasize urgency: personal mortality and global instability are “time bombs,” but the “blessed hope” is available now through repentance and faith in Jesus the Messiah.
One of the most troubling aspects of cult dynamics is the way they generate self‑reinforcing histories that can become chaotic and fragmented, leaving individuals disoriented within the broader narrative. We need knowledgeable guides who can help us navigate these stories while providing a grounding in their historical context. I wrote Chapter Three of my book, The Cult of Trump, about the parallels with Jones, Moon, and Hubbard. Don Lattin, this week's podcast guest, concurred, though he personally likened Trump more closely in his mind to Jim Jones, whose leadership culminated in the historic tragedy at Jonestown. Lattin is a long-established and award-winning religion reporter. His work has been published in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The San Francisco Chronicle. Both of us agreed that Trump exhibits traits of malignant narcissism and appears to be steering the United States toward escalating threats and harms. The MAGA movement itself is a cult, is led by cults, and has demented authoritarian leadership written all over it. Don Lattin is a journalist who has specialized in writing about religions, cults, psychedelic history, cultural norms, and other fascinating topics since the 1970s. He's written seven books, including Jesus Freaks – a True Story of Murder and Madness on the Evangelical Edge and Changing Our Minds: Psychedelic Sacraments and the New Psychotherapy. He is also the author of The Harvard Psychedelic Club: How Timothy Leary, Ram Dass, Huston Smith, and Andrew Weil Killed the Fifties and Ushered in a New Age for America. My guest today on the Online for Authors podcast is Ted Aukerman, author of the book A Farmboy, a Tom Boy, Jesus Freaks, and Divine Appointments. Ted was born in Ohio and moved to Oklahoma with his parents in 1978. He lives in Muskogee, OK, with his wife, Patti, his sweetheart of 38 years. They have three children and six grandchildren. With one on the way! His first novel published in 2024, is actually four shorter works that were combined to make the Skips Sparks Anthology, A Farm Boy, a Tomboy, Jesus Freaks and Divine Appointments. Ted is a singer-songwriter writing songs for Aukrocket Records. His albums are available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Reverbnation to name a few. Movie fans will appreciate his contributions to the soundtrack of God, Where Are You? directed by De Miller from Lazarus Filmworks. Ted produces music and podcasts in his studio, Ted's Auto Repair. His podcast Tales From The Road of Life is available on many platforms. Also, on Reverbnation is music from Skip Sparks, one of his characters and Ted's alter ego. In my book review, I stated A Farmboy, A Tomboy, Jesus Freaks, and Divine Appointments is a Christian historical fiction filled with music, laughter, hard times, and saving grace. I thoroughly enjoyed Ted's characters, all of whom had problems, issues, disappointments, and poor decisions - and yet, they also had kindness, love, determination, and a need for something more than the world seemed ready to offer. This is a meandering story where you get to meet the characters, remeet them at earlier and later points in their lives, and finally see how they all come together, each touching the other. I enjoyed the music and poetry sprinkled throughout the pages, as well as watching characters go from dark places to places filled with light and hope. Our PTA series rolls on with Magnolia, Paul Thomas Anderson's wild, sprawling epic of love, regret, coincidence, and—yes—raining frogs. We dive into the film's interwoven stories, the powerhouse ensemble cast (Tom Cruise, Julianne Moore, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and more), and why this chaotic tapestry of life remains one of PTA's boldest statements. As we count down to his newest film One Battle After Another, filmed right here in El Paso, TX, we're celebrating how PTA captures both the mess and the beauty of human connection—even when the sky is literally falling.
Ally Yost and Ashley Hetherington ("Jesus Freaks") are back with Sadie for a raw convo — from gym fits and convictions, to when “healthy” turns into a full-on idol (because counting macros can low-key take over your life). They also get real about singleness stories that don't have a “happy ending” … at least not yet — and why it's actually okay to just leave it at trusting God.Plus, Ally and Ashley flip the script and ask Sadie some questions too: about her own single season and how she knew Christian was the one. https://fastgrowingtrees.com - Get 15% off your first purchase when using the code WHOA at checkout. https://drinkag1.com/whoa — Use my link to give the new AG1 flavors a try, plus get a FREE Welcome Kit! [Originally aired: 5/4/23] Chuck Girard, singer, songwriter, recording artist, and worship leader, is one of the pioneers of Contemporary Christian Music. He was co-founder and lead singer of the group LOVE SONG from it's beginning to the present. Born in Los Angeles, Chuck began playing music at an early age. In his teens, he formed a group called THE CASTELLS, which had two national top 20 hits. They also released the song “I Do”, which was produced by Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Chuck shared the stage with stars such as Roy Orbison, Jan and Dean, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bobby Vee, and others. This led to a successful career as a studio singer and musician which included singing the lead vocals on THE HONDELLS first two albums and their biggest hit, “Little Honda.” In his early twenties Chuck became disillusioned with life, and like so many of his generation began experimenting with drugs. This led to a five-year search for God through LSD, eastern religion, and a committed “hippie” lifestyle. Rock & Roll Preacher - Chuck Girard After years of searching for meaning through drugs, Buddhism, sex, and Eastern philosophy, a long-haired hippie musician walked his bare feet into a little country church and encountered the living God. Confounded by the simplicity of the gospel, a young Chuck Girard dedicated his life to Jesus during the height of the sexual revolution and civil unrest that characterized the decade of the '60s. Along with thousands of other "Jesus Freaks" who came to be known as the Jesus Movement, Chuck's story was only just getting started. This raw and honest memoir is both refreshing and convicting. Some of you feel persecuted in your faith. Your family thinks you are crazy because you follow Jesus. Your boss thinks you are a Jesus Freak and your friends don't want to hang out with you! Today we will meet Stephen who felt the exact same way and yet he never wavered in his faith!

Rev. Jarrett Wallace // JESUS FREAK by Chapel Roswell
Too many people see Jesus as a good man, a nice man, a charitable and kind man -- but nothing more. Even many Christians fail to have a proper relationship with Jesus, seeing Him as someone to worship during Sunday services, only to forget about Monday through Saturday. A personal relationship with Jesus is a must, however. It's impossible to live a life of fullness -- it's impossible to live out life in a manner that's planned by God -- without a one-on-one walk with Jesus. Be a Jesus freak, says Nina May, co-producer of the based-on-true movie "Jesus Freaks." You won't regret the life that comes.
Michael Tait the celebrated frontman of the Newsboys and the song God's Not Dead, the iconic voice behind dc Talk's Jesus Freak and a man who once led prayer on stage for President Trump is now at the center of a devastating sexual abuse scandal that has rocked the Christian music world. Multiple men have come forward with alleged sexual assault, substance abuse and manipulation. Once celebrated across stadiums, Tait is now being exposed in one of the most disturbing scandals to ever hit the contemporary Christian music scene. While his band rushes to re-record new singles and his defenders scramble for answers, a much deeper question cries out for response...what happens when someone who leads worship also leads other into darkness? To live passionately for Jesus means that not only will you be rejected by the world -- you'll also be rejected by "religious" people. The call to follow Christ means being prepared to give up everything in order to pursue Him, but the price we might pay to is nothing compared to all that we gain.
The call to follow Jesus means that we give up our lives to submit to Him in everything, and that will often go against the grain of the world and religion. The price we pay to follow Jesus is nothing compared to all that is gained with Him. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/640/29
