Since Michigan legalized marijuana more than five years ago, cannabis has become pretty visible in everyday life. Dispensaries are everywhere, you can get marijuana in the form of candy and baked goods, and the industry is generating billions of dollars every year. But there’s also growing concern about how that normalization is affecting kids. A record number of Michigan kids were hospitalized last year for cannabis, according to the state’s poison control center. In the last five years, they received about 1,500 reports of kids under the age of six being exposed to or ingesting CBD, THC, or other cannabis products. We’re talking with Michigan Public reporters Kate Wells and Adam Yahya Rayes. They’ve been digging into what the numbers tell us, talking to parents, doctors, and people in the cannabis industry about why this is happening.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Last October we aired a story two weeks before the election in which voters were asked to decide whether to guarantee access to abortion in the Michigan state constitution. For this story, Michigan Radio reporter Kate Wells spent several days in a Michigan abortion clinic, speaking with women about what led them there. That story was recently nominated for a Peabody award. Voters passed Proposition 3 by a wide margin last November in Michigan, preserving abortion rights in the state. The issue of access to abortion is still relevant and ongoing. With that in mind, we wanted to bring your attention back to the story from the Michigan Radio Newsroom and Stateside. Keep in mind that the story you're about to hear was recorded and aired before voters went to the ballot to vote on Prop 3 last Fall. The original story was reported by Kate Wells, and edited by Sarah Hulett and Lindsey Smith. Mixed by Mercedes Mejia, with additional help from Rachel Ishikawa. It's Friday, November 4th, A.D. 2022. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. By Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com) Nigerian Muslims kidnap 40 kids and demand $70,000 ransom On November 3rd, unidentified Muslim militants in Northern Nigeria abducted 40 children in an attack on a farm in Katsina state, reports International Christian Concern. The Premium Times, a Nigerian newspaper, reported that the kidnappers have demanded the payment of $70,000 as ransom.  The militants have contacted the parents of the children asking for the money. Join me in prayer. Dear Jesus, Please intervene and orchestrate the situation so that these abducted Nigerian children will be safely and quickly returned to their families. Amen. In John 14:14, Jesus said, “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it.” How an Ohio voter stumped Democrat Senator Tim Ryan According to RealClearPolitics.com, the U.S. Senate continues to be a toss-up between the Democrats and Republicans as Election Day on Tuesday, November 8th rapidly approaches. Right now, there are 45 seats that are likely to be retained by the Democrats and 48 seats likely to be retained by the Republicans.  Plus, there are 7 seats that are toss-up. One seat that leans Republican is in Ohio between the Democrat, Tim Ryan, and the Republican, J.D. Vance. Right now, Vance is only leading by 3% which is within the margin of error. In a recent debate, a woman in the audience asked Ryan this pointed question. VOTER: "Can you look me in the face and tell me that government expenditures on green energy subsidies through the 'Inflation Reduction Act' that increase our national debt are in any way lessening my burden at the gas station and the grocery store?" RYAN: "I, I could not say that, right now, in the present moment." As you vote on Election Day, Tuesday, November 8th, make sure to go to www.iVoterGuide.com, type in your address and get access to a robust examination of the candidates on your ballot from a Biblical perspective. NPR plays audio of an abortion on air And finally, before you hear the next story, I'd like to issue a parental advisory. If you have children with you, and you're listening by radio, you might want to turn the volume off for about two minutes.  If you're listening to the podcast, you might want to listen to it at a later time when your kids are not with you. So, here's the story. Brace yourself. Yesterday morning, National Public Radio did something quite unique. They aired the audio of an actual abortion in Detroit, Michigan, reports LifeSiteNews.com. The woman had given her consent to have the murder of her baby captured by the radio affiliate. Narrated by reporter Kate Wells on Michigan's “Morning Edition,” they featured the story of a mother who aborted her 11-week-old baby at Northland Family Planning in metro Detroit. Here is the critical excerpt from her NPR story. It starts with an abortion assistant, named Brandi, directing the mother right before the abortion. BRANDI: “So, I am just going to get you set up on the table and we're going to do (inaudible) medicine. I'm gonna pull this out under your legs.” WELLS:  “Most patients are partially awake during the procedures. They get IV medication for pain and anxiety. The lights are dimmed, there's soothing music. It actually feels a lot like a childbirth. The medical gown, your bare legs in stirrups, and a person next to you saying, ‘You can do this.'” BRANDI: “Just keep breathing. Just keep breathing.” WELLS: “That's Brandi. She's one of the staffers. Her job is to monitor vital signs. But it is also to hold the patient's hand and talk her through this. Whether it's a birth or an abortion, it is often women guiding other women.” BRANDI: “You're going to hear this machine turn on now. Okay?  It makes a loud noise.” MOTHER: “Okay.” (The abortionist turns on the suction machine) After dilation of the cervix, a suction curette, a tube with a serrated tip, is inserted into the uterus. The strong suction, which is 29 times more powerful than your household vacuum cleaner, tears the baby's body apart and sucks it through the hose into a container. This is the most common method of surgical abortion in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. BRANDI: “Blow it out. Blow it out. Breathe deep. Breathe deep.  Blow it out. Listen to me. Blow it out. If you hold it wherever you make it harder for you. Keep breathing. Keep breathing.” WELLS: “'Just keep breathing,' Brandy tells her over and over. ‘I can't!' the patient says at one point when the cramps get painful. ‘Yes, you can,' Brandy tells her. ‘You're doing it.' And then within just a couple of minutes, it's over.” MOTHER: (Moaning) BRANDI: “Take some deep breaths for me." MOTHER: (Moaning) BRANDI: “Catch your breath.” MOTHER: (breathing deeply) BRANDI: “You did it!” MOTHER: “Thank you guys so much!” BRANDI: “You are welcome.” Greg Price, a pro-lifer, tweeted, “This clip puts on full display what an abortion actually is: violence and full on dehumanization of the unborn. That's why it's important to share. To show reality.” Price also said, “So, listen to that audio. It's incredibly tough, but it's important. Listen to it and then think to yourself about how the only pitch the Democrat Party is making to the voters in the midterm election is more of that.” Plus, the pro-life group Live Action tweeted, “A recording of a murder.  Outlaw abortion now.” Note the cruel irony of how the NPR reporter oddly compared the brutal murder of the mother's baby to the joy of child birth. While NPR should be applauded for airing the audio, notice how they lowered the volume at the most difficult part to hear and the reporter complimented the abortion assistant for aiding in the murder. This much is clear. Proverbs 6 says God hates seven things including “the hands that shed innocent blood.” Close And that's The Worldview on this Friday, November 4th, in the year of our Lord 2022. The Peta Toeava and Grace Nweke combination proved difficult for Australia once again, with the visitors' circle defenders struggling to break their partnership. Australia led by one goal heading into halftime, but crucial defensive gains to goal defence Phoenix Karaka and wing defence Kayla Johnson edged the home side ahead, with New Zealand winning the third stanza 15-9. Coach Dame Noeline Taurua says her side came out firing after halftime. "When we kept ball in hand it meant we could push ourselves forward. That grind that happened out on court and absorbing the pressure - because there were moments where it was touch and go - I'm really pleased." It was once again the Toeava show, with the wing attack notching up 36 feeds. She won't be part of the Australian tests, but Taurua says she's proved herself. "It's a credit to her, the work she's done behind the scenes, her brilliant connection with Grace but also her workload and training ethic, so big raps to her." Toeava's absence will mean a new strategy, with Maddy Gordon, Whitney Souness and perhaps Kimiora Poi stepping into the wing attack bib. But Nweke's not worried about Toeava not being out in front of her. The 20-year-old says the players stepping in know the game plan. "In terms of our style, all of the wing attacks in the Ferns can play the same and do what's required, so it's nice to know we have options." Nweke underneath the hoop is New Zealand's biggest threat. The 20-year-old shot at 100 per cent, slotting all 37 attempts. Combatting her remains one of the main tasks on Australian coach Stacey Marinkovich's list. But Marinkovich says playing against tall shooters isn't something new for her defenders. "They've played against Jamaica's Jhaniele Fowler at the Commonwealth Games, and there's no one more prominent than her in the goal shooting circle. They know that they're not going to win every ball, but those one or two that they do get, it's what we do with it. "It's about the accumulation of pressure and presence so there's much you've got to do in the 60 minutes to get those opportunities." The trip home is well overdue for Australia – it's been nearly three years since they've played a test there. It'll also be Marinkovich's first home test in charge. She expects her side to lift another gear on Wednesday in Melbourne in game three. "I think it's a huge advantage. You get familiar with your surroundings, the girls obviously play in those stadiums in Suncorp Super Netball. It'll be nice to be in a normal routine." There may be one change to the Australian team when they return home on Monday, with defender Sunday Aryang suffering a calf strain, leaving them with just three circle defenders. There are a few changes to the Ferns side for the two tests in Australia, with midcourters Gordon and Poi coming in for Toeava and Mila Reuelu-Buchanan, and defender Elle Temu replacing Sulu Fitzpatrick. - by Kate Wells, Newstalk ZBSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The White Ferns will face England for the bronze medal after taking Australia to the final over but losing by five wickets at Edgbaston tonight. It was a much more creditable performance from New Zealand after they had been crushed by the hosts in their final group game, a result that set up a semifinal against the tournament's firm favourites. But Australia never seriously looked like ceding their chance to play for gold, now set to do so against India tomorrow, while the White Ferns have 13 hours to prepare for a clash with a side who restricted them to 71-9 two days ago. They will at least take heart from pushing the best team in the world tonight, especially since the bowling effort was hindered by several missed opportunities. Sophie Devine top scored with 53 from 48 balls while Lea Tahuhu proved the folly of initially omitting her from this squad - and excluding her from the national contract list - by taking 3-20 from four overs. It wasn't quite enough, however, as Australia paced their chase well enough to survive a few late setbacks, reaching their target with three balls to spare. Considering the White Ferns began their innings on the verge of calamity, and considering how poorly they had batted two days ago, 144-7 represented an admirable - if not defendable - total. After being sent in and seeing Suzie Bates chop on for a first-ball duck, Georgia Plimmer could hardly have asked for more difficult circumstances in which to make her maiden appearance. And the 18-year-old almost suffered a disastrous debut, being given out the very next delivery after being rapped on the pad before surviving on review. That reversal was greeted with a huge cheer from the crowd, perhaps not wanting such a fate to befall a teenager, perhaps merely wanting New Zealand to make a match of it. That's what the White Ferns set about doing, with Plimmer stroking a few morale-boosting boundaries before falling for 17. Devine and Amelia Kerr then laid the platform for New Zealand to post a target that would at least take some chasing, sharing in a 73-run stand from 64 balls. The skipper looked in position to launch when her side reached 101-2 at the end of the 15th over, but after pulling brilliantly for six to bring up her 50, she holed out two balls later. Kerr (40 from 36) would depart in similar fashion, showing fine touch to guide one to the third-man boundary before top-edging a slog sweep next ball, and that's when the runs dried up. The promotion of Tahuhu didn't work - bowled for three to drop her T20I average below 10 - and only a couple of confident drives from Brooke Halliday lifted the total above 140.Back in her primary role, Tahuhu immediately set about making that total more challenging. With her first delivery, the veteran had Alyssa Healy strangled down the leg side for a brisk 14, and the next ball Kerr spilled a difficult chance at backward point to snare the prized scalp of Meg Lanning. Tahuhu's second over started with another drop, as Izzy Gaze failed to glove Beth Mooney's thick edge, before Lanning pulled the following ball over the midwicket boundary. But Tahuhu would have the last laugh, bowling out the world's No 1 batter with a brilliant yorker to reduce Australia to 28-2. Unfortunately for the White Ferns' chances, the worst drop was still to come, Hannah Rowe contriving to grass a simple chance at mid off from Tahlia McGrath. Australia were well in control at 75-2 after 10 overs and, although Kerr ran out McGrath before Tahuhu had Mooney caught in the deep, the current run rate rarely threatened to fall below the required. Gaze missing two good stumping chances didn't help, but with Australia needing 34 runs from the final five overs, they were always in command and eventually advanced. - by Kris Shannon, NZ HeraldSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
