Finally, we had to end on the discuss around the law passed by the FA to ban trans women from playing womens football. Episode edited by Mike Adams @monkeyhillmedia. Follow us on socials @thewososhow

Olympique Lyonnais is the most successful club in women's football, dominating Europe over the last 15 years winning eight Champions League titles. Only Barcelona have recently been able to compete. Lyon's success is the vision of club president Jean-Michel Aulas who wanted to create an iconic team, with the best players, but in the case of Aulas he also promised to ensure both male and female players were treated equally. This included the first mixed football training academy. In Olympique Lyonnais: The Champions League trailblazers we find out the story of how the French club raised the standard of women's football, going behind the scenes with striker and Ballon d'Or winner Ada Hegerberg, Chelsea and England defender Lucy Bronze and France and Lyon captain Wendie Renard who have all witnessed huge success and then change with Europe's elite catching up. Now South Korean born businesswoman Michele Kang has taken over the the French giants, with big ambitions for the club. On today's Midday Newswrap, we breakdown the latest headlines. Our guest is John O'Connor, political director for our news partner the Baltimore Banner. The Baltimore Orioles will soon have a new owner: David Rubenstein, erstwhile of the Carlyle Group, has assembled an A-list roster of investors that includes Cal Ripken, Jr., former Baltimore Mayor Kurt Schmoke, former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, and Michele Kang, who is adding the Orioles to her portfolio of several women's soccer teams. Rubenstein is Baltimore-born, and a lifelong O's fan. He is saying all the right things, about wanting to bring a world series championship back to Baltimore. This week, the team traded for Corbin Burnes, a Cy Young Award winner who is one of the best pitchers in baseball. The Labor Department announced jobs numbers that blew way past expectations. 353,000 jobs were added to the labor market, indicating continued, robust economic growth. The number of available jobs far exceeds the number of workers looking for work. The department also revised its numbers for 2023. The 3.1 million jobs that were added last year make it the strongest year for job growth since 1999. And, after a week of dramatic and often contentious testimony from the defendant and her former husband, on Monday, lawyers will offer closing arguments in the mortgage fraud trial of former Baltimore State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby.Email us at midday@wypr.org, tweet us: @MiddayWYPR, or call us at 410-662-8780.

Krikorian talks about how he's building a team around Trinity Rodman, Ashley Sanchez, Andi Sullivan, and Aubrey Kingsbury by surrounding them with the proper support to be their best selves. He also explains why he let go of 2021 NWSL Champion and USWNT legend Kelley O'Hara, how the college and pro games are different, and tells the story of the first time he met Michele Kang. Plus, he explains why the team hired Mark Parsons and what kind of process led to that decision. Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman prepare for the 2022 NWSL Season with a full Washington Spirit preview (2:34). Washington welcomes 2021 interim head coach and NWSL Champion coach Kris Ward to the helm as well as Y. Michele Kang as the full acting owner of the Spirit. Sandra and Lisa discuss what this means for the club having Ward and Kang as the leaders both on and off the pitch. This offseason for the Spirit didn't showcase too many changes in personnel - retaining most of the 2021 NWSL Championship Team and even extending 2021 Rookie of the Year Trinity Rodman's contract with a 4-year $1.1M deal (6:58). The losses suffered between defender Tegan McGrady and midfielder Kumi Yokoyama don't hurt the team when they retain so many superstars (11:02). Sandra and Lisa run through the massive 38-player preseason roster for Washington (14:13), highlighting any starters for the team, young prospects to keep an eye on (18:56) and which experienced veteran needs to step up (23:24). The biggest burning question for Washington Spirit in 2022: Will we get a 2-peat? Can Washington Spirit win back-to-back Championships? Listen to hear the A3 projected finish for Washington Spirit (28:28). In the second half of the episode, Sandra Herrera and Lisa Roman welcome Washington Spirit defender Sam Staab to discuss her offseason and the start of the 2022 season for Washington (33:27). Sam talks about all of her teammates who are getting married and she was lucky enough to celebrate with this offseason - four weddings to be exact! Sam recognizes the amount of turnover in the club during the offseason and how that helps wipe the slate clean, but also the team is focused on tapping into the end of the 2021 season and building from that. Then, Sam discusses the biggest change having Kris Ward at the helm of the team. *This episode was recorded before the final Challenge Cup Rosters were released* 'Attacking Third' is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, Google Podcasts, Castbox and wherever else you listen to podcasts. Over the past several months, the Washington Spirit have won the NWSL championship, and also been at the center of a very public tug-of-war over ownership of the club. On one side: Steve Baldwin and Bill Lynch, two co-owners who together had or controlled a majority of votes among the club's ownership group. Baldwin and Lynch have been looking to sell the club. On the other side is Michele Kang, another co-owner, who offered well over market value for the club, but has also been publicly critical of Baldwin during his time as controlling owner of the team. Though Kang's offer was for $35 million dollars, The team was thought to be on the verge of a sale to another group for $25 million dollars. On Tuesday, a group of the Spirit's minority owners were key to a complete flip of the script. It's a lot to take in, but Steph Yang is here to help parse through some of the details.
