Gold. At the absolute peak of his fame, Michael Jackson had the power to make something completely on his own terms, and that's exactly what Moonwalker is. Full of claymation, drug dealers, supercars, machine guns, gundam suits, and children, Moonwalker feels less like a film and more like a surreal artifact of pop culture excess. Guest Zion Parker is here to try and make sense of the madness.___Please consider joining our Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/wwibofficialYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@whywasntitbetterLetterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/wwibpodcastInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/wwib_officialX: https://x.com/WWIBpodcastSubscribe! This week on Episode #157 of Fear and Loathing in Cinema, we found ourselves tumbling headfirst into the glittering, bewildering cosmos of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker. To call it a movie feels almost impolite. It is, instead, a kind of cinematic music video stitched together at the exact moment Michael Jackson ceased to be merely human and became something closer to folklore. He's half man, half melody, and half very expensive special effect for 1988. The post Episode #157 – Moonwalker (1988) first appeared on Boomstick Comics.
There is a new Michael Jackson biopic coming out. I thought this was a good reason to revisit his film Moonwalker! It tells the story of his life and includes real personal music videos about how he felt about fame. Then he turns into a robot and fights Joe Pesci for some reason. Enjoy!https://youtu.be/pJlB5i1UVdo https://rumble.com/v78t6oe-michael-jacksons-moonwalker-pure-musical-madness-hack-the-movies.html?e9s=src_v1_upp_f

“I mean, you know how it was with Michael. And when I heard that phrase, it was just... He saved my life. Like, what? He just sung a song, right? Like, but, you know, take probably one of my favorites, ‘Man in the Mirror.' Man, it still gets me. So, just from an experience standpoint, and I've done some travels in mental health and, you know, talking to people, I do understand how important music, or how powerful I should say, music is. So it absolutely feels like that being a musician, and then, I think, if you're a musician in church, it's… I've had some moments, Jodi.” – Jastin ArtisThis episode's guest is a multi-faceted artist, producer, engineer, and indie A&R who bridges creativity with leadership. I would so appreciate that.(00:00) - How Sound Shapes Our EmotionsAs we start things off, Jastin tells us about his early musical influences, from Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin to growing up with Michael Jackson on the radio. “I would say I was probably four or five,” he recalls. “It was when the movie came out, Moonwalker, and I used to go to my mom's friend's house who was in the neighborhood every day after school and watch that movie.” We talk about the power of sound and music, and how easy it is to lose touch with our musical side as adults. “Everybody who has a guitar that's for decoration, that's sitting there,” he says. “I'm telling you, please pick it up. Play it while you're watching your favorite show, whatever. That little time adds up.”(10:45) – Harnessing the Power of MusicOur conversation focuses on the healing power of sound, and the impact it's made on Jastin's own life. “If it weren't for music,” he tells us, “I don't think I would be here… if I didn't have access to these records, if I didn't have that, just, I don't think I would be the man that I am.” He shares his perspective as producer and A&R executive, and how hard it can be to shake off that perspective sometimes when it comes to just sitting back and enjoying music. “I'm listening and I'm like, wait a minute,” he says, “what did they do, know what I mean? And then other times you're just, let me just chill.”(18:30) - The Intersection of Sound and BrandingAs the first half of our conversation wraps up, Jastin tells us more about his A&R work and what it's taught him about the sound...

Did you know Earth has its own rhythm? Yep, it's like a giant disco ball in the cosmos – it pulsates. But that's not all of the space surprises. There's a planet where it literally rains diamonds! Oh, and the sun – that shining star of ours – it's so huge that a million Earths could fit inside it. Talk about a solar beach ball! There's a black hole with a monstrous appetite, gobbling up a mass equal to 6 billion suns. Last but not least, the moon is drifting away from us about 1.5 inches every year. Moonwalkers, you better start practicing longer leaps!

New Sode; .Ok so picture this; I am at a sleepover. Cucumbers on eyes. Politically incorrect Avocado mask to the face. Reading the Bitcoin whitepaper alongside the female clown that I invited to Suite at the 4 Seasons from stepchild's birthday party. We smoked a bedazzled joint and stacked Sats. It was To the backdrop of Chopin in E minor. It's a good day to be alive when you're buying Bitcoins smoking with a clown who also voted Trump. We then ordered room service and danced to Taylor Swift Speak Now. And though it is a different album, it should be noted that We are never ever ever ever ever buying NFTsIn the morning I went to the Salon downstairs to contemplate my vapid existence and a pedicure. . I chose the toe polish color I trampled my husband with my Maserati Sha 256. A silvery fiat color. So I can give my lover, my driver, an elegant footjob under the table at Raos. Suddenly I felt better or maybe it was the quaalude. In 90s chanel,in a quaalude haze in the massage chair turned on high and and sats settled into wallet, I turned to the clown and asked if she would accept Bitcoin as payment. Cash only she said; Dont' you want money that cant be tampered with thats portable and fungible and liquid gold? No said the Clown. Give me the Cash. Alas, if clowns and pot dealers are no longer taking BTC what's a wannabe cracked out social climbing alcoholic manic bipolar shoplifting porn/birkin addicted gal to do? Sigh, I took out a crumpled hundred that I had taped with blue glitter and paid. I trudged to the Lexus and met step daughter at music class. Insert the tambourine. Insert Raffi. If the clown cannot understand the future of Ai infused quantum sound money then who's the clown now?I digress. My guest today is Russian Ukrainian Californian Jewish Royalty Tatiana Koffman author of the book the Myth of Money. I didnt read it; but I bought it for the aesthetic. Tatiana has an envious career histoire and currently is a partner at MoonWalker Capital. She is Bitcoin only and everything else is complete Poubelle, that's french for garbage. I thought Moonwalker meant she jad walked on the moon and had alien diet secrets; No. But. She is relatable due to her witnessing of the collapse of the Soviet Union, her friendship with Richard Branson and her time spent with Billionaire crypto bros in Dubai. I just knew we would be dear friends. Tatiana and I met on a chair lift in Gstaad and we orange pilled each other and the rest is histoire. "Had I read Tatiana's book , I would imagine it is one of resilience, strength, and hope."But luckily I know she's a great story teller and you will too. In fact her story is filled with just enough glitz- glamour- spirituality- fraud- crypto celebrity and quantitative easy easing that would make any kind yet vapid party girl almost pick up a book. I am indeed her new stalker. XOXO GlitterLedger. Support the show

A special show for the holidays, looking back on some of the biggest events, cultural hits and Christiane's best interviews this year. One year after the outgoing Biden administration struck a deal to bring him and four other Iranian Americans back home, Siamak Namazi, the longest held American in Iran, speaks with Christiane about his captivity in Iran's Evin prison, the torture he underwent and what it feels like to be free. Then, Christiane sits down with Hollywood legend Tom Hanks and his co-writer Christopher Riley to discuss their unique documentary "The Moonwalkers," capturing humanity's obsession with space travel. She also revisits an exclusive report from Ukraine, where she gained access to a medical evacuation train used by the Ukrainian army to transport wounded soldiers from near the frontlines to hospitals around the country. Afterwards, "True Detective" stars Jodie Foster and Kali Reis speak with Christiane about the latest season of the hit series released to critical acclaim. Oscar-winning actress Meryl Streep and former Afghan politicians, negotiator Fawzia Koofi and Dr. Habiba Sarabi, also join Christiane to talk about their new documentary called "The Sharp Edge of Peace," following the doomed efforts to negotiate with the Taliban. And finally, in a moving interview during celebrations marking 80 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy, 101 year old U.S. army veteran Jake Larson speaks with Christiane about the shared values he and his fellow servicemen fought for during World War II. Only 12 men have ever set foot on the moon—in April 1972, Charlie Duke became the youngest among them. At the age of 36, Charlie was part of Apollo 16, spending nearly 3 days on the lunar surface collecting rocks, taking soil samples, and driving the lunar rover. From his involvement with the first lunar landing, to helping with Apollo 13, to the aggressiveness that keeps him working hard into his 90s, General Duke is a real American hero. “We choose to go to the Moon. We choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…” In his speech at Rice University, Texas, in September 1962, President John F. Kennedy reaffirmed America's commitment to an extraordinary, startling project: landing a man on the Moon by the end of the decade. Facing fierce competition from the U.S.S.R., it would take 11 missions of unimaginable danger to reach this goal, with Neil Armstrong first setting foot on the Moon's rocky surface on July 21st, 1969. 650 million people watched in awe that day, as Apollo 11 unfolded on live TV. In today's episode, Tom and Dominic are joined by one of them, very special guest TOM HANKS, actor, filmmaker and expert on all things Apollo-related, to discuss the epic saga of how humankind made it to the Moon and back. From the tragedy of Apollo 1 and the disaster of Apollo 13, to Buzz Aldrin's "religious moment" after the Eagle had landed, driving foldable cars on the Moon, and the arguments over who would get to take the first lunar steps, Tom Hanks, Dominic Sandbrook and Tom Holland look at the dangerous, daring, and incredible stories of the Apollo missions.
