On this week's episode, Sylvie and Chris save the world today (the Egyptian way) with a vestige of two dominant '90s trends colliding in Mummies Alive! Hot off the heels of a resurgence in Egyptomania in the West and when the hottest trend in animation was shamelessly ripping off the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this Canadian co-production from the desk of Ivan Reitman debuted to the world as a fledgling media franchise that never truly took off. Time to kick Tut and appropriate ancient cultures to appeal to kids! Episode covered is Episode 19 "Missing Ja-Kal." Octo-Host, 8-Bit Alchemy continues the theme he started way back in EPISODE 3 with the return of PARTY OF ONE! That episode was all about spotlighting unpopular movies that we happened to love as kids, but this time it's all about cartoons! With the help of our longtime pal, musician and future clothing mogul Santino Mancebo (AKA Tino the San Man), we spend the episode finding the positive in some very under-celebrated animated shows including Star Wars Ewoks, Mortal Kombat Defenders of the Realm, Stunt Dawgs and Mummies Alive! Later on, Parasite Steve slides into you bookcase with the Bram Stoker award winning novel of 1996, Crota by Owl Goingback. Best of all, he has a couple of anecdotes from the author himself, which were sent especially for the podcast! ----------------------------------------Retro Ridoctopus is:• Parasite Steve (read)• 8-Bit Alchemy (listen)• Nintenjoe (subscribe)----------------------------------------All original heavy metal music by Enchanted Exile Retro Ridoctopus is part of the Dorkening Podcast Network, the Inebri-Art Podcast Network and is brought to you by Deadly Grounds Coffee! *Due to an unrealized error, there is a slight echo in this episode that couldn't be edited out. Sorry and thanks!* Special guest Sera (she/her) brings us a true blast from the past with Mummies Alive! Four mummies awake from their sarcophagi in 1997 San Francisco, sworn to protect the pharaoh's lost son Rapses, who they believe is a cool boy with a skateboard named Presley. They live in a secret room in the history museum when not fighting Scarab, an evil sorcerer with inefficient plans. We discuss the "mummy mania" of the late 90s, toyetic vehicles, hiding magical creatures in your room, a spooky costume ball that isn't explicitly for Halloween, and how almost every voice actor also had a credit on X-Men: Evolution. Originally, Mummies Alive was geared towards an older audience, but during production it became predominantly a children's show. The series ran for one season of 42 episodes; the last two episodes link together to end the show, as it appears episodes 38–40 were the finale of the first season. Eric and Julia Lewald, were writers and producers for Mummies Alive! Mummies Alive plot elements, including a group of warriors from the past that awaken in the present to fight a wealthy, immortality-obsessed enemy; their initial difficulties in adapting to the modern world; the use of mythological figures in numerous episodes; and a recurring femme fatale antagonist. The show lasted for one season, but made an impact in the 1990's as a show that had to be watched. What's a potential crossover you do want to happen, and what's a potential crossover you don't want to happen?Like I didn't at all care for GB+TF.And I really don't care about Terminator+TF or BTTF+TF... Like none of these crossovers do it for me. Honestly it seems like the only TF crossovers I like is with other Hasbro brands like Rom, MASK, Micronauts, & GIJoe. Anything else just seems dumb. Tyler Gillett: In your heart if hearts, do you really think MASK, Rom or Micronauts are worth the money in investing in to try and make popular again? Think back to when they were out and how long they actually lasted.Personally, I'm a fan of series like Street Sharks and Mummies Alive! But I know for certain that if they ever tried to breathe new life into those series/franchises, it'd fall flat on its face. Case and point? Look what they did to the Reboot reboot. Also, this is the question we asked on Stasis Lock and we'd like to extend the question to you guys. How important is shelf uniformity to you?Can you stomach mixing up different franchises on one shelf without being worrying that it's a mess? Or are you like me being all pro segregation when it comes to different franchises? Gary Allen: Taking a 12 hour Road Trip that includes yourself and THREE other passengers... who do you pick? They can be friends or real life acquaintances OR include famous celebrities, athletes etc... but they must be REAL PEOPLE. Not his / her characters portrayed in media... Lee Alex Aitken: Hey guys! Just wanted to say loved 10shots and bots! But I must say, it seems to me Levi was the King this time round! Well done on all the hard transformations great show indeed. That was a fantastic episode and well done mike on all the barfing and editing of the video.....what do you have in store next? Ok fine I have a suggestion....what about Jed doing a solo version? Or maybe Jefferson could be doing it with Jed? Surely Jed is game??? SLB Vlog: You get to pick one live action movie. You have to keep one human actor. The other characters in the movie have to be replaced with muppets. What movie do you pick? And I feel I have t said this in awhile but FUCK YOU ROB LEIFELD!!Mike Tinnel: question......did she lick it before she put it in ???? Adam Urban: Whats the weirdest request from your fans...if it tops mine ill share the information Brotha Kyle: A lot of people good on G2. And rightfully so. Some of those figure were U-G-L-Y you ain’t got no alibi. But there were some cool ones as well. I always liked Laser Optimus. Sideswipe was cool. And I liked green tank Megs. My question is what do you guys think are some cool looking G2 bots. Go Birds. Fuck J. Clownie. Nathaniel Armstrong: What do you believe are the three things are you known for amongst friends, family, and co-workers today? How would you change that answer for one year from now? Jason Brehn: Will Levi ever take responsibility for purchasing a figure without doing his homework on whether or not it's a piece of shit? EOL
Rebecca Snow and Steve Gamester and Face2Face host David Peck talk about their new film Cheating Hitler: Surviving The Holocaust, survivors guilt, meaningful history and the power of memory, pivotal moments in personal stories and why we never should forget. Trailer You can watch the film here. Synopsis: Rose, Maxwell and Helen were 10, 9 and 7 years old when the Second World War began. Robbed of their childhood, they were old before they were young. They endured the terror of forced labour, killing squads and concentration camps. After the war, they discovered their families had been decimated, that their homes were reduced to rubble, and their possessions lost or stolen. Now, 75 years after the war ended, these three survivors are looking for answers to deeply personal questions they’ve carried with them their entire lives. Cheating Hitler is a modern-day investigation into lingering mysteries from the Holocaust. Three survivors and family members travel to Poland, Ukraine, and Lithuania exploring some of the hidden and rarely visited sites where the Holocaust occurred. They consult with historians, genealogists and forensic experts and uncover new life-changing information. Children have always been central to the story of the Holocaust. The most recognized victim, Anne Frank, was a child. And yet, for decades, the testimony of most child survivors was overlooked. Some felt overshadowed by the experiences of their elders, too traumatized to share their memories, or felt guilt for surviving and living long lives. This film focuses entirely on the unique experiences of children survivors, now in their final years, and often telling stories and revealing secrets on camera for the first time. Their testimony provides a powerful warning from history and a last chance to solve lingering mysteries. Cheating Hitler is about one of the darkest chapters of human history, but what shines through are stories of resilience, bravery and survival. A show that is far too much to watch for more than 5 minutes and a show that has a fantastic theme song and immediately plunges downhill thereafter. Oh joy. Well, we've already covered Bump in the Night before on our Christmas special episode last year, with the dreaded 60 minute long "T'was the Night Before Bumpy" but now we're paying our dues and actually looking at the show as it should be and yeeeeah no it really isn't improved in its shorter form. Mummies Alive! fares a little better but not by much - apart from the kickass theme tune created by the same dude who composed the Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers theme tune, it's a bit bland and has a lack of any real substance past tired cliche tropes and cartoon antics. This episode is a little bit on the naff side since Avery was falling asleep in real time and honestly couldn't put up with either of these shows for very long. Sorry about that. We'll be back next episode with Monster Mash.
For this episode we're down a Scott but rejoined by one of our favorite people: John Kennedy! Take a walk down memory lane with us as we watch the (surprisingly good and slightly terrifying) Wildfire, still-amazing Mummies Alive!, and macabre Mighty Max.

We address how ridiculous all of this is, how this was an era of cartoons long forgotten (even to those who were kids when it happened), and the impossible economics of the museum that Presley's mom works for. So if you remember this series, please let us know! It is incredibly difficult to find & I would LOVE to continue through this gem of a cartoon. Sean and Dave are in San Francisco this week to discuss a new mummy exhibit that's on display. Uh oh! It turns out they're both reincarnations of Egyptian Princes. Now they both have four mummies guardians as their sworn protectors. If this sounds like a "right place, crazy-town time" scenario, then you get the essence of the Mummies Alive! cartoon. It's fast paced and everything transforms. Plus, you get the added explanation of all these crazy situations in one word; magic! I love it. Sean's happy that he majored "Indiana Jones" at San Francicsco city college. He finally has a reason to use his degree. (money well spent) Next week is a "wrap" on our Halloween theme month. Tune in!

Wouldn’t it be amazing if there was a Kingdom Hearts TV show? How about a movie? Ten years ago it was rumored that Disney was developing a Kingdom Hearts animated series. As far back as November of 2004 there were reports from people that had seen a pilot episode for Kingdom Hearts, but it was never confirmed, leaked, or mentioned ever again. Now in 2014 Kingdom Hearts Union is proud to sit down with Seth Kearsley, the director and writer hired by Disney to adapt Kingdom Hearts into a television series! Seth has worked on many animated series such as Mummies Alive (1998), Family Guy (2005), and Looney Toons (2012) as well as feature films such as Adam Sandler’s Eight Crazy Nights. Mr. Kearsley has also made a small selection of the storyboard available online. Join Branden, as he travels back to 2002 with Seth Kearsley and unlock the truth behind this show that never was!
Once again, Hyle and Chad discuss the DKU-news-filled summers of yore, this time leading from 1998 into the present day. They're joined by special guest "Aussie" Ben Kosmina for some insight on Mummies Alive!, and probably that one time he went to E3.
