In Comic Reader Résumé, I use Mike's Amazing World of Comics to travel back through time via his virtual newsstand to the genesis point of my lifelong collecting of comics. From there, I can offer a “work history” of my fandom through my active purchasing of (relatively) new comic books beginning in January of 1982, when my interest in the medium went from sporadic and unformed to routine on through compulsive accumulation. To streamline the narrative and keep the subjects at least remotely contemporaneous, I will not generally be discussing what we call back issues: books bought long after their publication date. Sometimes, I will cover a book published on a given month that I picked up within a year or so that date, and I give myself an especially wide berth on this aspect in the first couple of “origins” episodes. He first hit the scene in the early 80s, adapting films like The Dark Crystal, Krull, and The Last Starfighter for Marvel. Bret continued at Marvel throughout the 80s, illustrating The Bozz Chronicles with David Michelinie for Epic, working on Cloak and Dagger in Strange Tales, completing a major run on New Mutants, and introducing Sleepwalker. Then he was off to DC, where he worked on numerous Batman-related titles, before moving into animation. At Warner Bros., Bret lent his talents to Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman/Superman Adventures, Batman Beyond, and the Justice League. X-Men: Days of Future Past is notable for three things. The first is that it splits the timeline continuity between the old X-Men movies directed by (allegedly) sex pests towards underage boys or adult women with the new ones that will eventually bring us to Dark Phoenix and New Mutants taking Fox's outing with Marvel off a cliff, and in doing so innovates the now lucrative concept of the "multiverse." The second is that aforementioned sex pest towards underage boys (allegedly) is back to directing an X-Men movie and now we have to talk about him. The third is that JFK is a mutant.
