Colossians 2:8-10Paul wants to people in Colossae to understand that it is not about head knowledge and philosophical argument. It’s about a heart understanding and that in Christ we are made complete. Paul in no uncertain terms states that Christ is ENOUGH!You are complete through your union with Christ v10This is as important today as it was for the early Church. We can be captured by reasoned argument and what sounds plausible but is in fact empty and nonsense, coming from human thinking and not Christ. We have to be careful what we read, watch and listen to. So much of what is available is counterfeit. It may sound or look good but in fact is empty and has no value!£10 notes example: Monopoly money and fake £10 notesHow do we be careful about what we take in and ensure that it is right, not empty words of man’s thinking?1. DOES IT LINE UP WITH THE WORD OF GOD, THE BIBLE?If what you are looking at/listening to does not line up with scripture then beware, it is not truth. God gave us his word to guide us and help us and it is the truth.Psalm 118:105Psalm 1:1-3John 17:17We need to know God’s word if we are to know what is true and what is untrue, false or empty! We need to read our Bibles!Quote: “The bible is meant to be our daily bread, not cake for special occasions. A bible that is falling apart usually belongs to a person who isn’t”2. THE HOLY SPIRIT AND PRAYERYou have the Holy Spirit living in you and he is there to guide you into all truth. This is what Jesus tells his disciples in John 14:16-17Advocate: comforter, encourager, counsellor.John 16:131 John 2:26-27This is so important in our lives. The Holy Spirit can tell you if something is right or wrong and you KNOW in your Spirit and can feel it. He is our guide. Use Him, ask him and lean on him!Talk to Jesus: Pray and ask for wisdom! If any of you lack wisdom ASK!Song: Elevation – Talking to JesusWhat a friend we have in JesusIt’s not a religion. It’s more like a friendshipJust talk to your father, like you are his kidJust start talking to Jesus. You can talk to Jesus whenever you like!3. Don’t be afraid to ask your leadersWe are constantly bombarded with ideas, thoughts, wisdom and opinions. We have social media and millions of websites that we can access at the touch of a button. Everyone has an opinion and wants to be heard. That’s why we have so many problems with social media abuse, racial issues, bullying and criminal cyber activity. It can be a hard place to navigate correctly.BUT you have community group leaders and elders or someone in the Church that you trust who can help if you are unsure. You can get them to check out what you are looking at to see if it’s good or bad and they can pray about it and see what God says. This is particularly important if you are a young Christian. This is how the body of Christ works. We don’t all know everything. But pool our resources and there is a wealth of Christian experience that you can draw on.Ephesians 4:11-16To FinishDave at the end of the last meeting prophesied this“Don’t borrow truth from worldly things – Find truth in my wordThere can be errors in borrowing truth from the worldMy word has the fullness of truth and full revelation of what is needed for you!Amen to that!Questions1.“You are complete through your union with Christ” v10. This is so important and the enemy will constantly attack us telling us we are not complete. What can we do to counteract these lies?2.How can I read the bible more effectively and use it to remember God’s promises and his truth?3.How does the Holy Spirit speak to us and how can we learn to listen and feel his touch?4.Our Church members have a huge reservoir of experience. Why are we so reticent to use that experience an

The pastors start off talking about organizing by what we have, and not by what we lack. We need to be fed by Jesus, need to be free from an evaluation of ourselves all the time and just be living in this place of being with Jesus so that we can do whatever the Spirit leads us to do. A big interview between Jonny and Rachel on her views of the Bible: how to read it and engage with it, especially in community; dealing with patriarchy and colonialism that have mis-used the Bible; her own experience as a pastor; and some of her favorite theologians who engage with the Bible in a deep and yet relatable way. We end with a little Show and Tell: books to read, spiritual people who've influenced us, and celebrating meeting in person outside for our Sunday meetings. //Notes// How the Bible Actually Works by Pete Enns: https://peteenns.com/books/how-the-bible-actually-works/ Anselm on Celebrating Our Transhistorical Body: https://www.circleofhope.net/transhistorical/april-21-anselm/ Jesus, as a mother you gather your people to you: You are gentle with us as a mother with her children; Often you weep over our sins and our pride: tenderly you draw us from hatred and judgement. You comfort us in sorrow and bind up our wounds: in sickness you nurse us, and with pure milk you feed us. Jesus, by your dying we are born to new life: by your anguish and labour we come forth in joy. Despair turns to hope through your sweet goodness: through your gentleness we find comfort in fear. Your warmth gives life to the dead: your touch makes sinners righteous. Lord Jesus, in your mercy heal us: in your love and tenderness remake us. In your compassion bring grace and forgiveness: for the beauty of heaven may your love prepare us. NOTES:How’s that wedding budget going? In today’s Wedding tip Wednesday, I’m calling out 2 popular misconceptions about Wedding Budgets that need to be cleared up. And in case you missed it, The Ask the Planner Resources Shop is now open! One of the first products I made sure to include in the shop is a wedding budgeting bundle, which comes with both a wedding budget template and a wedding vendor payment tracker. Make sure you use code Launch20 to get 20% off everything in your cart until the end of this month. But be careful. This code is limited to 1 use per customer, so make sure you get everything that you want before using the code. You can visit the shop at shop.verveeventco.com And now, on to today’s episode.According to The Knot, 45% of couples spend more on their budget than they originally planned by $7,000. The best way to avoid this kind of budget creep is to have realistic expectations about your wedding budget - and that doesn't mean using a wedding budget calculator on a website like The Knot or Wedding Wire. In the next set of tips, I'm going to expose the lies behind wedding budget calculators. Like Lie #1, A Magical calculator can predict how much you should spend on your wedding. I don't care how good their algorithm is or whatever they use to calculate your budget. An online calculator can't accurately predict how much you should spend on each item. There's no one-size fits all. It just doesn't exist. To find out more on what's a better predictor of your wedding budget, visit my blog post Why Wedding Budget Calculators are Misleading at https://verveeventco.com/budgetcalculatorWedding Budget Lie #2: Every wedding vendor's price will fall between a specific range.Guys, there are a lot of items that will affect how much a vendor charges - that's the beauty of capitalism. You have a choice as to how much you want to pay and they have a choice as to how much they need to charge! A couple of things that will definitely affect this will be their level of experience, quality of work, location, and the specific services you book. To find out better predictors of how much your vendors will actually cost, visit my blog post Why Wedding Budget Calculators are Misleading at https://verveeventco.com/budgetcalculator.

NOTE: Show is posted early this week for the holiday. An original radio theatre show each week, with most sounds culled from the previous week, about a fictional, theatrical presidency. Contradictions tell the story, with songs, skits, and clips from political news shows and late-night comedy routines. The definition of "radio theatre" is stretched here, with an updated Dickie Goodman and/or Richard Foreman-meets-mashup style sometimes, and a more straightforward take other weeks. Currently airing on 30 or 40 stations around the world, the network has ordered another four or five episodes. Then a new show, "Turn on the News," takes its place, in the same time slot, with a similar sound and approach, though about a fictional radio network.

Welcome to another episode of Wild and Precious Conversations. This week, I am introducing the idea of integrity. Due to a series of unfortunate events, which honestly included a trasnformer blowing up or catching fire (or something like that ) this week’s episode does not have a guest. But I think that’s exactly what needed to happen.Next week, we get a conversation with Cam Brewer, lawyer, activist, *accountant*, entrepreneur. This week, we get a short introduction to integrity.A short, 17 minute introduction that took me days to complete. I start with this:“Everyone is wildly ‘pro-integrity,’ but ask them what integrity actually means and they can rarely tell you, let alone translate their definition into specific behavioral expectations.” (Christopher Bauer)Can you tell me, first, whether you think integrity is important to you; and second, can you list for me a few specific behavioral expectations for yourself and those around you?I ended up, through the help of this fabulous article in Psychology Today by Leon F. Seltzer, realizing that for us, integrity should be considered in the context of our emotional health. And should be smoothered in a healthy dose of compassion, both for ourselves and for others.Consider that, when you integrate all the dissperate parts in yourself, you end up with integrity.Have a quick listen and let me know your thoughts!** I want to make a quick note here that I think Internal Family Systems is a really helpful model for looking at integrity. I don’t necessarily adhere to every aspect of this model. Notes:How and Why You Compromise Your Integrity Why Integrity Remains One of Leadership’s Top Attributes Photo by Natalie Rhea on UnsplashOnward. Excited to begin more conversations again. Ha! Is this section *ever* accurate? Hopefully, next conversation is with Cam Brewer discussing Integrity. The Underbelly Project: A weekly workout for your emotional strength and flexibility. If you’re not afraid to get dusty and maybe shed a few tears together, join me and let’s get emotionally strong! And please, if you know anyone who might like to share this journey, share this project. Excited to stay in the arena with you. Get on the email list at underbelly.substack.com

Notes: How does a mother of eight balance a thriving design career with a family the size of a baseball team? Well, for starters, she doesn't sweat the mess. Lisa Canning is an author, coach, and design expert, and this week, she joins us to talk about how entrepreneurs can get family life and work goals to align, even during a pandemic. She counsels us to let go of perfectionism, schedule deep-focus time, and to delegate household chores to the kids. Most importantly, she says this unique time can give us a chance to figure out what really matters—for both business activities and parenting—and to to loosen our grip on the other stuff.  “The main goal for us, during this period, is forming greater connections with our families.”Guest- Lisa Canning

Hello and welcome to Mimblewimble, the now-video and audio Harry Potter podcast! A lot of people have asked us about how the sausage gets made (we’re flattered!) so we decided to do something fun and do two versions of this episode: an unedited video version and a more polished audio version for the people who prefer to listen to us and not look at us. Enjoy! In this episode, we covered Chapters 19. The Servant of Lord Voldemort and 20. The Dementor’s Kiss. SUMMARYAfter Snape reveals himself in the Shrieking Shack, he makes it clear that he has no intention of listening to Sirius’ side of the story. His childhood humiliation and hatred takes over. and he wants to give Sirius over to the dementors and Lupin too for supposedly helping Sirius. Shocked by how deranged Snape sounds, Harry, Ron, and Hermione take matters into their own hands and knock Snape out to give Sirius and Lupin a chance to explain. They reveal that Scabbers, the rat, was in fact Peter Pettigrew and that he faked his own death to escape getting caught by Sirius. Lots of questions that have been building up since the beginning of the book are answered in this chapter:Why was Scabbers losing his health? Why was Crookshanks obsessed with Scabbers? How and why did Sirius escape?Who was the actual secret keeper? Why would Peter Pettigrew not utilise all the chances he had to kill Harry? How did Harry end up seeing the Grim during the Quidditch match? Or did he really see the Grim? And more! We really like bullet points! Harry decides that they should hand Pettigrew over to the authorities instead of letting his father’s best friends kill him and go to Azkaban. But unfortunately, on the way to the castle, Lupin transforms into a violent werewolf because it was full moon and he’d forgotten to take the wolfsbane potion. Sirius turns into a dog to protect the others from Lupin. But Pettigrew uses the chaos to attack Ron and Crookshanks and escape. The Dementors find Sirius. Harry and Hermione try their best to save him. Sirius loses it, Hermione loses it, and Harry is about to be kissed by a Dementor when a mysterious Patronus saves them. At this point, we are just very happy that Harry’s first kiss was not a Dementor.NOTESHow do we look and sound? Do you prefer this format or would you like it if we just stuck to audio? Let us know what you think! We hope you’re staying indoors and being safe. Social distancing is the need of the hour. We recorded this episode before things got a little dire over here.

If someone asks how long they have to talk, tell them around 2-3 minutes. because It'll probably end up being longer. But definitely no more than 7 minutes. In this case, less is always more. And if they're worried they can't talk that very long, even better! No one ever said, Man, I wish that speech was longer.

Hunger like PT Barnum and Walt Disney Curiosity Sustain energy -- Always "bring the energy." --> "When I'm at work, it's show time." Understand what brings you energy -- Write it down "It was right in front of me.  We sold our house... We needed to create attention.  We couldn't do marketing like everyone else." The daily practice of writing Thank You notes: The "thank you experiment."  One per day, every day.  Look for people you're grateful for... Tell them. Love:  "Love is something not talked about enough."  Jesse learns the love languages of all of his employees. Long term values -- They call all people who buy tickets to his games.   Be intentional about EVERYTHING. "We don't invest in marketing, we invest in experiences." Relate to the normal person: With the hold music Your email signature Business cards Name tags Make everything remarkable Write a letter to the parents of young people who work for you.  How are you recognizing people?   "Be patient in what you want for yourself, but be impatient in how much you give to others." Core beliefs: Always be caring Be different Write your future resume (what do you want to experience) "Red flags never go down."  If you find a red flag in the interview process, it's time to move on. "We want people who 'do and learn.'" "You don't fail, you discover things." Build your idea muscle -- Write 10 ideas a day, every morning. "I believe in learning by doing." Wrote 159 blogs before publishing any of them... "Stop standing still, start standing out." "It's a lot easier to fit in than stand out." Create "You wouldn't believe" moments Write the normal list and then do the opposite -- Do the remarkable (like going on a world book tour at Epcot) Magic Castle -- "Listen carefully, respond creatively." Advice: What makes you different? What makes you stand out?  Be okay with standing for something.  Don't just try to be a little better than someone else. Experiment -- Throw darts until you hit the bulls-eye

As a pioneer in the field of "science-help," her mission is to translate insights from psychology and neuroscience into practical strategies that support personal well-being and strengthen communities.  She is the best-selling author of The Willpower Instinct and The Upside of Stress. You might know her from her TED talk, "How to Make Stress Your Friend," which is one of the most viewed TED talks of all time, with over 20 million views.  Her new book, The Joy of Movement, explores why physical exercise is a powerful antidote to the modern epidemics of depression, anxiety, and loneliness.  Her identical twin sister is the well-known game designer and futurist Jane McGonigal. Notes: How do we define excellence? What's the metric? It's about contributing to the world consistent and personal values.  A sense of who Let your strengths and talents be what guides you Trust in self, intuition, take risks Kelly has a strong sense of direction.  She's had that for a long time.  When to say yes or no?  She discovered she loved teaching. The story/science approach -- "I want to connect you with a stranger."  Help people connect with others. "The science reveals something about human nature." Willpower -- "The ability to make choices to do what you want even when part of you doesn't want to do it." Immediate gratification combined with an investment if your future.  Both are important.  "This is a skill that can be developed." Be clear about your values and goals.  Know what you want.  "Every morning, do a 30 second commitment to what's important to you."  Remember who you are. "Create an environment that reminds me of my goals and makes it easier to accomplish them." Disciplined people do what they say they will do.  "They are clear about what they want to do.  Create an environment that supports them.  Have a sense of purpose." "Anyone can develop discipline if they are clear on what they want." "Stress is what happens when we care/have a lot at stake." "Stress is what gives you energy.  It reminds you that it matters." Think, "How is stress trying to direct me?" "What is my body and brain trying to nudge me towards?" "Figure out your healthy stress responses." Real life example:  How to prepare for your first meeting with your new team (that you are leading): Get rid of the idea that you shouldn't be stressful.  It is part of the process.  It's a signal that you care. Bigger than self-perspective.  Go beyond the ego.  Think it's allowing the team to have a moment.  Support the mission.  Think bigger than just making a good impression.  It helps you connect with clear intentions.  It's a mindset shift. Always assume others have something as valuable as you.  They have wisdom.  Let it be co-created with others. "Being a leader is bringing what's best in the room.  People will rise to the expectations of them." Thoughts Kelly had in her mind prior to her TED Talk (that has since gone viral): The woman that went before her had a panic attack.  Kelly noticed that the crowd had incredible goodwill towards the speaker.  They wanted the speaker to do well. "Breathe in anxiety, breath out encouragement." "I'm going to put the audience at ease.  I got you." The joy of movement:  When you go from sedentary to active, when you move your body, there is increased optimism, hope, connection. The story about my mom working as an aerobics instructor when I was a kid -- Moving your body to the beat of the music is powerful and helpful. Walking in nature:  "When you're in nature, the brain shifts to the present moment."  Take more walks. The "Runner's High"-- Persistence is high, put the body in motion and just keep going.  Your brain releases chemicals to provide pleasure, reduce pain.  It creates energy and optimisim "We learn from movement.  We endure.  We learn what we're capable of." General advice: Take care of your self -- invest in your well being.  It will help you deal with challenges Tell me about someone who's made a positive influence on your life Don't wait for permission.  Start it.  Do it.  You need feedback.

Notes How many of us experience creative grief? How can we step out of our pained and distorted mind view of creativity and start to joyfully express our essence through creativity? Creative grief seems ubiquitous. We are born creators, which is why we may feel creative grief and sadness when we resist or limit the joy of being creative. This grief seems to play out not only individually, but also in group and family roles and dynamics. Our stories and mindthink can block and tarnish our creativity, diminishing our life force and possibly making us ill. We have the freedom of choice to be creative. A distorted or inhibited creative flow has a lower vibration, sometimes bringing out competitiveness or shrinking. Creating a collage from magazines is an easy way to not only be creative but also to bring lightness and some clarity into sadness, anger or grief. We can use creativity to move pain out of our body to then reconnect to our essence. Imagine drawing an exit point for pain on paper! Creativity is also a safe way to process what we’re feeling because we’re observing ourselves through a different medium and perspective.  We can be creative in countless ways, such as how we dress, talk, our expressions, activities and much more.  Links Rooting Down Expanding Out Online Course with Phoebe. Read Full transcript: https://www.capitalmind.in/2019/09/podcast-the-investor-wants-to-know-episode-7/   Notes: How do you see the investment horizon for different categories of MFs? If you are looking for a horizon for investing, then it's not investing, it's a trade! Asset allocation metrics (large, mid and small caps) can shift, but horizon should be long term. Stay invested as long as you don't need the money! What are your views on passive investing? Is it advisable to invest in small cap index funds as most of good performing stocks will become midcaps and non-performing midcaps will become large caps which might pull the returns down? In India, one should look at the large caps because that is where the index funds will benefit the most. If you invest in small cap index, your best stocks are going to move out. Rather, one may look at the stocks which are actually leaving the small cap index. How bad is the NBFC scenario? Many of the NBFC's may lose their current structure- few will be taken over, few will be cut up into pieces and sold. Global P/E players are also keen on buying assets on discounts. None of NBFCs will go bust, since they have valuable assets. It will take another year for clarity to emerge. How to find out if a company is cooking up it's books? It is very difficult for a retail investor to dig up gold plated numbers, there is no one way. Retail investors should diversify, do not put more than 5-10% in one stock. It's not worth losing sleep over your investments! What are your views on auto sector? We are going through a time when people are not buying cars, at the same time, India is not at a stage where people who aspire to buy cars or bikes, have bought enough of them. China sells 16x more vehicles than India. This is not an unending cycle or death of auto industry. You can also listen to our podcasts on our app: www.capitalmind.in/podcast

News Roundup Episode 5 Notes - How much has UNIX changed? (http://adventofcomputing.libsyn.com/episode-5-notes-how-much-has-unix-changed) UNIX-like systems have dominated computing for decades, and with the rise of the internet and mobile devices their reach has become even larger. True, most systems now use more modern OSs like Linux, but how much has the UNIX-like landscape changed since the early days? So, my question was this: how close is a modern *NIX userland to some of the earliest UNIX releases? To do this I'm going to compare a few key points of a modern Linux system with the earliest UNIX documentation I can get my hands on. The doc I am going to be covering(https://www.tuhs.org/Archive/Distributions/Research/Dennisv1/UNIXProgrammersManual_Nov71.pdf) is from November 1971, predating v1 of the system. I think the best place to start this comparison is to look at one of the highest-profile parts of the OS, that being the file system. Under the hood modern EXT file systems are completely different from the early UNIX file systems. However, they are still presented in basically the same way, as a heirerarchicat structure of directories with device files. So paths still look identical, and navigating the file system still functions the same. Often used commands like ls, cp, mv, du, and df function the same. So are mount and umount. But, there are some key differences. For instance, cd didn't exist, yet instead chdir filled its place. Also, chmod is somewhat different. Instead of the usual 3-digit octal codes for permissions, this older version only uses 2 digits. Really, that difference is due to the underlying file system using a different permission set than modern systems. For the most part, all the file handling is actually pretty close to a Linux system from 2019. See the article for the rest of the writeup Porting Wine to amd64 on NetBSD (https://blog.netbsd.org/tnf/entry/porting_wine_to_amd64_on) I have been working on porting Wine to amd64 on NetBSD as a GSoC 2019 project. Wine is a compatibility layer which allows running Microsoft Windows applications on POSIX-complaint operating systems. This report provides an overview of the progress of the project during the first coding period. Initially, when I started working on getting Wine-4.4 to build and run on NetBSD i386 the primary issue that I faced was Wine displaying black windows instead of UI, and this applied to any graphical program I tried running with Wine. I suspected it , as it is related to graphics, to be an issue with the graphics driver or Xorg. Subsequently, I tried building modular Xorg, and I tried running Wine on it only to realize that Xorg being modular didn't affect it in the least. After having tried a couple of configurations, I realized that trying to hazard out every other probability is going to take an awful lot of time that I didn't have. This motivated me to bisect the repo using git, and find the first version of Wine which failed on NetBSD. + See the article for the rest of the writeup FreeBSD Enterprise 1 PB Storage (https://vermaden.wordpress.com/2019/06/19/freebsd-enterprise-1-pb-storage/?utm_source=discoverbsd) Today FreeBSD operating system turns 26 years old. 19 June is an International FreeBSD Day. This is why I got something special today :). How about using FreeBSD as an Enterprise Storage solution on real hardware? This where FreeBSD shines with all its storage features ZFS included. Today I will show you how I have built so called Enterprise Storage based on FreeBSD system along with more then 1 PB (Petabyte) of raw capacity. This project is different. How much storage space can you squeeze from a single 4U system? It turns out a lot! Definitely more then 1 PB (1024 TB) of raw storage space. See the article for the rest of the writeup The death watch for the X Window System (aka X11) has probably started (https://utcc.utoronto.ca/~cks/space/blog/unix/XDeathwatchStarts) Once we are done with this we expect X.org to go into hard maintenance mode fairly quickly. The reality is that X.org is basically maintained by us and thus once we stop paying attention to it there is unlikely to be any major new releases coming out and there might even be some bitrot setting in over time. We will keep an eye on it as we will want to ensure X.org stays supportable until the end of the RHEL8 lifecycle at a minimum, but let this be a friendly notice for everyone who rely the work we do maintaining the Linux graphics stack, get onto Wayland, that is where the future is. I have no idea how true this is about X.org X server maintenance, either now or in the future, but I definitely think it's a sign that developers have started saying this. If Gnome developers feel that X.org is going to be in hard maintenance mode almost immediately, they're probably pretty likely to also put the Gnome code that deals with X into hard maintenance mode. And public Gnome statements about this (and public action or lack of it) provide implicit support for KDE and any other desktop to move in this direction if they want to (and probably create some pressure to do so). I've known that Wayland was the future for some time, but I would still like it to not arrive any time soon. Episode 6.0 Notes: How to Preach to Unchurched People Protect the weakest link in the room. Resist the tendency to want to sound smart. Work hard to make every subject easy and simple to understand. “You don’t really understand something until you can explain it simply.” -Albert Einstein The message must be a bridge from where unchurched people are to where Jesus is. Spend the majority of your time with leaders and the lost. Take the time to pray and seek the Spirit to craft a clear message. Help people understand how this applies to them today in the modern world. Unchurched people don’t understand how the announcement applies to them if we don’t make application. Even churched people don’t understand or think about what most Christian cliches mean. Some Christian cliches remind people of negative views of the church. It’s lazy on our part when we use Christian platitudes and cliches. Unchurched people want to know the why behind what we believe and preach. Many times as pastors we haven’t been challenged about why we believe what we believe. Ask the hard questions of the text and the message before you preach it. Unchurched people expect you to be real and authentic. “Authenticity is the apologetic of our time.” -Dhati Lewis Unchurched people expect the church to be self-righteous and fake. Authenticity surprises them. Preach Jesus and the gospel all the time. Every problem is a sin problem, and the answer to every sin problem is Jesus and the gospel. How does the gospel speak to each and every situation you speak about? Take the time to plan out your sermons and series ahead of time. Is there anything that I’m scared to say in this message that I should say? We have to spend substantial amount of time to think about how we are going to say something, not just what we are going to say. Jesus always worried about the people far from God. Jesus appealed to the people who were ostracized by the religious people. It is arrogant of us to think that whatever we’ve been taught is what unchurched people need to hear. “The church doesn’t exist for christians. The church is christians. Christians exist to reach unchurched people.” -Sean Sears Have a humble heart when you preach. Have unchurched people in mind when you preach. Tweet about us!
