In this episode of Women of Color Rise, I speak with Shawna Wells, Founder and CEO of 7Gen Legacy Group. Shawna helps Black Americans plan their legacy and establish intergenerational health and wealth. Shawna shares her journey to clarifying her own legacy and how she built her business. Here are steps she took to create a business aligned with her vision of legacy and abundance: Healing Practices to See Yourself as a Business Owner Shawna shares how it took significant healing to embrace her identity as a business owner. She developed daily rituals of space and writing, and shared her thoughts with her community for feedback and support. Shawna also reflected on her childhood, understanding that our relationship with money forms between ages 0-5, and how this shaped her initial resistance to anything to do with money. Create Your Legacy and View Your Business as a Way to Fund Your Dreams Shawna became clear that her legacy for the next generation involved creating change—investing in her family, community, and projects like the Highland Project. By researching the costs of her legacy, she realized that she needed to run a seven-figure business to fund that dream. The question shifted from “How much do I need to get by?” to “How much do I need to change the world and redistribute wealth to those I care about most?” Align Your Skills with Your Business Once you know the life you want and the impact you want to make, the next step is figuring out how your skills can connect to that vision. Understand the value of your work and create a pricing structure that supports your goals. Build a Supportive Community Surround yourself with like-minded individuals who understand and support your journey. Consider your preferred connection style—whether through regular Zoom check-ins or in-person meetings—and find a community that feels authentic to you. This could be a mastermind group, conferences, or specific connections with people who are focused on building seven-figure businesses. Thank you, Shawna, for generously sharing your journey and advice on building a business rooted in legacy and abundance. She is a wonderful example of how business can also be soul work. #LegacyBuilding #WomenOfColorRise #Education #Inspiration Get full show notes and more information here:https://analizawolf.com/ep-89-build-a-seven-figure-business-with-shawna-wells-founder-and-ceo-of-7gen-legacy-group

In this episode, you'll also hear:2 possible ways to handle the inevitable challenges you will face as an aspiring author — and which one will carry you through to successScriptures to stand on when you feel discouraged or held back by doubtsWhat you need to understand so you can offer your readers a unique perspective from which to approach their problemHow to get people invested in what you have to say, even beyond the first bookHere we are at the end of the road! We've covered all five of the first steps you need to take to write and publish a successful, impactful book. Now it's time to connect the dots on those five steps, so you can take meaningful action. Here are the five steps we've covered throughout this series, and what you need to do next to get started. Step #1: Find Your FuelBefore you begin, you must find your “why” for writing this book. The road to becoming a published author is filled with many “ups” — very high moments — but also low moments when you just don't feel like it. These low moments are days when you'd rather be doing something else or when the words just don't seem to come. On those low days, remember that setbacks are common to both successful and unsuccessful people. The difference is how successful people respond to those setbacks. You see, there are two ways you can handle the challenges on your road to becoming a published author:React emotionallyRespond prayerfully and thoughtfullyToo many aspiring authors are led by their emotions rather than focusing on the mission they have been called to and partnering with God to make it happen. But you don't have to fall into that trap!Step #2: See Yourself as SuccessfulOne way to avoid being led by your negative emotions is to see yourself as successful. You can't allow the negative voices in your head to have their way. The cognitive distortions we discussed in this episode cause you to imagine a negative future for your life and create hurdles that you are unable to overcome. These beliefs and thoughts are rooted in lies. You have to believe it in order to achieve it — that means you've got to consciously choose to believe the truth of God's Word over the lies of the enemy. Remind yourself of these verses when you're feeling overwhelmed by negative thoughts:“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)“So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.” (Hebrews 10:35-36)“Resist him [the devil], standing firm in the faith…” 1 Peter 5:9Remember, with God's help, you CAN do this!Step #3: Pick Your PersonaBoth in writing and in running a business, when you sell to everyone, you end up selling to no one. Why? Because you fail to make an emotional connection. People want to be understood. They want to know that you get them and their struggles. So when you give a really broad message, it doesn't connect. Instead, one of the best things you can do as an aspiring author and a future business owner is to get clear on the persona or the group that you have been called to reach. Often, that is a group of people whose journeys very closely resemble the journey you've been on and the setbacks that you've experienced. But don't stop there!Step #4: Test Your TheorySo many aspiring authors make assumptions. We assume things like:We know what our readers needWe know exactly what problem the reader is facingBut here's the thing: those assumptions can be wrong. The best way to know something for sure is to ask, so make sure you test what you believe to be true. Talk to some people that you believe meet the profile of someone who would benefit from your book. Listen to what they have to say and how they say it. This will help you make an emotional connection with the reader. Step #5: Organize Before You OutlineThis final step is where you look at all the conversations you've had with people who meet the profile of your ideal reader. Ask yourself:What patterns can I find among the things these people said? What challenges do these people say they're up against? What do they wish other people understood about them? What have they already tried? You have to understand these things if you want your book to offer a unique perspective on how they can approach the problem. Remember, they're already looking for solutions — and you can be the person who enlightens them on the best path for them to take. And when you do that, people will naturally hang on your every word, because they want to see what else you have to offer. Then, as you launch your career as a speaker, coach, or consultant, they'll be more than willing to show up for you and invest in what you have to offer. Dickson County native Katie Collins recently won the national 4-H Youth in Action Award. The award goes to four outstanding 4-Hers who have projects that bring a positive impact to their community. Collins is the first person from Tennessee to win the award. Thomas Capps Outstanding Tennessee collegiate 4-Her recognized nationally. Hello and welcome to Tennessee Home and Farm Radio. I'm Thomas Capps Katie Collins I was so ecstatic to win this award. Thomas Capps Katie Collins is a sophomore at the University of Tennessee Knoxville studying food and agricultural business. She has been heavily involved in 4-H in high school and now at the college level too. She's one of four to received the National 4-H Youth in Action Award this year. Katie Collins The Youth in Action Award is a national 4-H program that recognizes for diverse young leaders who make a positive impact in their community. Thomas Capps Each applicant submits a project that benefits their community, Collins submitted her community project called See Yourself in Agriculture, which helps expose youth agriculture that otherwise would have no contact with the industry. Katie Collins How I kind of got started in the project was I read a book to some third graders during ag literacy week, and about half of the kids didn't even know where their food came from. I grew up on a century dairy farm, 20 minutes down the road from these kids. And I was just like, mind boggled at the fact that they thought their food came from a grocery store in the third grade Thomas Capps As one of the four winners Collins will now travel around to be a spokesperson for the National 4-H Council. Katie Collins For the whole year, we will travel to different donor events, alumni, different 4-H events, do telephone interviews like this talk to our state leaders, different state leaders, about 4-H and about how we made a positive impact and sharing our 4-H story Thomas Capps Also as the winner, Collins receives a $5,000 scholarship, but she says it's just an honor to be recognized for her hard work and an honor to represent Tennessee. Katie Collins I'm the first Tennesseean to ever win the award, which is super exciting. And so I hope this gained some traction because I know people in Tennessee are doing great things. I'm hoping more people in Tennessee worldwide and they'll win the award in the future. Thomas Capps For Tennessee home and Farm Radio. I'm Thomas Capps. Thanks for listening and have a great day.

Too often the style advice that we hear growing up, passed on from our mothers and circulated for years among our sisters, aunts and friends, become the ‘rules' we use to create our very own wardrobes. These so-called rules are often followed without any question as to whether they're right or not. In this episode I want to do a little myth- busting. April 21, 2023 - Equipped Day 2 9:00AM Auditorium Speaker Dan Owen kicks off day 2 of the Equipped Workshop. He looks at what it means to be open to change and accepting God's control over your life. Slides: Wisdom for Navigating Conflict in the Book of James (James 1:2-12) Conflict Brings Trials Which Test Our Faith! 2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. 12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation (trial); for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him (James 1:12). Sincerely seek God's wisdom when dealing with conflict. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways (James 1:5-8). 7 Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. 8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded. James is addressing a real conflict between the rich and the poor. 9 Now the brother or sister of humble circumstances is to glory in his high position; 10 but the rich person is to glory in his humiliation, because like flowering grass he will pass away. 11 For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; and its flower falls off and the beauty of its appearance is destroyed; so also the rich person, in the midst of his pursuits, will die out. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world. 2 My brothers and sisters, do not hold your faith in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ with an attitude of personal favoritism. 2 For if a man comes into your assembly with a gold ring and is dressed in bright clothes, and a poor man in dirty clothes also comes in, 3 and you pay special attention to the one who is wearing the bright clothes, and say, “You sit here in a good place,” and you say to the poor man, “You stand over there, or sit down by my footstool,” 4 have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil motives? 5 Listen, my beloved brothers and sisters: did God not choose the poor of this world to be rich in faith and heirs of the kingdom which He promised to those who love Him? 6 But you have dishonored the poor man. Is it not the rich who oppress you and personally drag you into court? 7 Do they not blaspheme the good name by which you have been called? (James 2:4-7). 15 If a brother or sister is without clothing and in need of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Go in peace, be warmed and be filled,” yet you do not give them what is necessary for their body, what use is that? (James 2:15f). What is the source of quarrels and conflicts among you? Is the source not your pleasures that wage war in your body's parts? 2 You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask (James 4:1-2). 13 Come now, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to such and such a city, and spend a year there and engage in business and make a profit.” 14 Yet you do not know what your life will be like tomorrow. For you are just a vapor that appears for a little while, and then vanishes away. 15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.” 16 But as it is, you boast in your arrogance; all such boasting is evil (James 4:13ff). Come now, you rich people, weep and howl for your miseries which are coming upon you. 2 Your riches have rotted and your garments have become moth-eaten. 3 Your gold and your silver have corroded, and their corrosion will serve as a testimony against you and will consume your flesh like fire. It is in the last days that you have stored up your treasure (James 5:1-3). 4 Behold, the pay of the laborers who mowed your fields, and which has been withheld by you, cries out against you; and the outcry of those who did the harvesting has reached the ears of the Lord of armies (James 5:4). God's wisdom calls for Christian behavior during conflict. Listen lots, Speak little, Control Anger Be Fair and Impartial Toward All People Admit Your Wrongs Toward Others Learn to See Yourself and Others Through God's Eyes. Recognize Conflict As a Time to Truly Show Your Faith! 12 Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him (James 1:12). Duration 36:22

The Cybersecurity Evangelist is back this month with a focus on, none other than, Cybersecurity Awareness Month 2022! I started with a call out to cyber folks who have been giving Cybersecurity Awareness Month a hard time. Noting that it's not for those of us who live and breathe cyber. And I contend Cybersecurity Awareness Month is a great campaign to help organizations with cybersecurity awareness and training curriculum – especially the smaller organizations who likely don't have IT, let alone cybersecurity staff. So, for Episode 22 I started with a quick Cybersecurity Awareness Month refresher, including the 2022 theme – See Yourself in Cyber – along with the four behaviors focusing on the “people” part of cybersecurity, including: Enabling multi-factor authentication Using strong passwords (and a password manager) Updating software Recognizing and reporting phishing However, the crux of this episode in addressing Cybersecurity Awareness Month really focuses on the premise of what I strive for TCE to be – “the cybersecurity podcast for everyone” and I thought it would be fun to take the literal perspective on Cybersecurity Awareness Month's “See Yourself in Cyber.” So I invited Christophe Foulon, the co-host of the Breaking into Cybersecurity podcast. So, you could say this is a podcast about a podcast! The Breaking into Cybersecurity podcast is where Chris and his co-host Renee Small talk to individuals about what they did before they broke in cybersecurity along with why and how they did it and how we “need a whole human approach to cybersecurity” including marketing, policy, teachers, and more! Breaking into Cybersecurity has over 400 episodes, so there is definitely something for everyone there. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/breakingintocybersecurity/message

In episode 40 of Cybersecurity Where You Are, co-host Tony Sager is joined by Murray Kenyon, Vice Cybersecurity Partnerships Executive at U.S. Bank. Together, they discuss the human dimension of cybersecurity, that is, bringing people with different talents together to understand common problems and help both organizations and individuals make informed choices. This is the philosophy behind Cybersecurity Awareness Month, an initiative which Kenyon helps organize as a Board member of the National Cybersecurity Alliance. The purpose of this year's theme, "See Yourself in Cyber," is not to make users into cybersecurity experts, as Sager and Kenyon point out. It's to create resources and lines of communication for sharing basic steps that everyone can take to better protect themselves online.ResourcesFollow Murray Kenyon on LinkedIn.Cybersecurity Awareness Month – National Cybersecurity AllianceJumpstart Your Security Program with Essential Cyber HygieneCIS Communities

In this episode of the Arraya Insights Podcast, our panel kicks off Cyber Security Awareness Month with a roundtable on all things security. They touch on CISA's theme for 2022: See Yourself in Cyber, and the guidance the organization is focusing on this year. The discussion covers the current threat landscape, data loss prevention, the challenges of balancing security with the user experience, and how the concepts of zero trust and proactive security are working, including top tactics organizations should focus on implementing now. Hosted by Scott Brion, Director, Cyber Security, this episode's panel includes Mike Piekarski, Enterprise Security Architect, and Keith Wood, Cyber Security Consultant.
On the latest episode of the Risk Roundtable, Andy leads Dave and Jen through a discussion of the various awareness campaigns and how these efforts do a great job of providing resources and materials for all organizations, big and small. Focusing first on Cybersecurity Awareness Month that is ongoing in the month of October, Jen talked through the messaging, the themes (See Yourself in Cyber) and the importance of each of us doing our part. Later in the podcast, Dave shared his thoughts on National Insider Threat Awareness Month that concluded in September and the theme of Critical Thinking for Digital Space and how everyone can do their part. The team also talked about security preparedness for the upcoming holidays. Andy capitalized on the discussion to talk about security awareness and mindfulness to appreciate, regardless of who you are and what your beliefs are. To cap off the episode, Andy took the roundtable through his three questions to include the always spicy debates on pumpkin pie and pumpkin flavored drinks. We will learn: The dangers of identifying too closely with our reflections. How to transform your relationship with mirrors. 5 basic steps to start a daily mirror meditation. Most people know their flaws so well they practically identify with them. And many people can't even stand to look in the mirror because the feelings of shame or repulsion are so intense. The good news is, with awareness and intention, you can use the same mirror to reverse these patterns. The mirror can be a powerful tool for self reflection and for finding the you underneath the persona you've built up over the years. We just have to consciously practice with it. And that's what we're learning today. Our guest is Tara Well. She is an associate professor of psychology at Barnard College of Columbia University in New York, NY, where she developed a mirror-based meditation called “a revelation,” in the New York Times. Her new book: Mirror Meditation: The Power of Neuroscience and Self-Reflection to Overcome Self-Criticism, Gain Confidence, and See Yourself with Compassion was just released. Have you ever asked yourself WHY you want to change or improve? Do you know if it's for the right reasons or is it for selfish reasons? Are you doing it to impress others or truly benefit yourself? I have some tips on how to lean more into being more authentic when it comes to making changes in your life.Show Notes:I think I reinvented myself like 5 times in my life, so far. I think I am about to hit my 6th major change in life & it feels better than all those other changes. The shift I am going through right now feels like I am finally stepping into the true me.If you haven't experienced that yet, I PROMISE you it's coming. I don't know when & don't really have any signs I can give you that you'll know it's coming, except that it will feel SO FREEING.I know I have been talking about natural shifts that happen in our lives that cause us to become different people based on the experience we are going through, but we also become different people when we want to change. And that's the one I am going through right now.I wanted this change, I wanted to let go of what was holding me back from being my true self. And I had hoped that this change would come sooner than it did, but it didn't because initially, I was going about it for all the wrong reasons.I wanted to impress people, I wanted other people to envy me, I wanted respect & others to look up to me. All these really selfish things. Looking back on it, I was really looking for validation in all the wrong places. It wasn't until I realized I had to validate myself & do things because I truly wanted to do them & not for any gain from others that I was able to find my way on the path of becoming freely me. There were still bumps in the road, of course, but it got easier the more I let go of how I looked to others. I still struggle with it. I'm sure I will always struggle with it a little bit because it's so ingrained in me, but I know how to shift my mindset now so I don't get stuck. I think that's one of the best things to understand when we are making efforts to become our true, authentic selves & our best selves. We need to remember that just because we do all this work doesn't mean we are going to be magically healed. We will still struggle here & there. But because we have done all this work, we will no longer get stuck in those mindsets. I'm sure you're asking what tips I can give you that relate to any of this. And 2 tips I can give you on shifting into the person you're truly meant to be is patience & perseverance. But today I actually wanted to share with you 5 things you should actually focus on when you want to change for the better:See Yourself as a Work in Progress Identify the Resistance in Your Life Identify What You Want to Change & the Associated HabitsFind a Way to Reflect Back to Observe Your ProgressTake Action to Build Courage Thank you again for listening & I hope this episode was helpful.Come visit me on my Instagram page @sabrinajoyperozzo.Anonymous survey for topic suggestions for the show:https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScqcg0URMsH61Evk_3SiSURBkNuk5aUZVo97H5nuLVB0q36Iw/viewform?usp=sf_linkHave any questions, comments or feedback?
