The Price of Mercy: A fight for the right to die with dignity by Sean Davison, published by Melinda Ferguson Books, was launched in partnership with The Cape Town Press Club at Kelvin Grove in Newlands. This is a recording of that conversation. Order your copy of The Price of Mercy from leading book stores or online. More details on our website: https://www.nb.co.za/en/view-book/?id=9781990973505 About this book: In September 2018, Professor Sean Davison's peaceful life in the leafy suburbs of Pinelands, Cape Town is shattered. Arrested for the murder of Dr Anrich Burger, a once-fit athlete turned quadriplegic who begged Davison to assist him end his life in 2015, the unassuming academic and father of three now finds himself locked up in a prison cell. Under investigation led by the Hawks, an additional two murders are added to the case for which he now faces a mandatory life prison sentence. Written in compelling detail, The Price of Mercy tracks the extraordinary journey that Davison embarks on to prepare for the gruelling legal challenge that lies ahead. The desperate cries of many, begging for his assistance to help end their lives of suffering haunt him. Unwavering in his belief that we all have the right to die with dignity, Davison's selfless battle is made more bearable by his friendship with the late and great Archbishop Desmond Tutu. A book that will change the way you see death.

Jersey Baseball Show - powered by NJ College Baseball Nation
September means a new school year. It also means it's time for the future, as we start our profiles with some of the top 2025 stars in New Jersey. Today we kick it off with three of South Jersey's finest rising sophomores, who accomplished big things in their freshman campaigns. Cherokee's Brett Gable came on strong and earned the victory as the Chiefs won the prestigious South Jersey Group 4 title. He followed that up with an awesome summer campaign and a verbal commitment to one of the Top 10 programs in the country in Virginia Tech. Chase Kroberger is an electric two-way at Moorestown HS, who can run in the 6.6s and bring it up to the high 80s on the mound. And Nate Sofield is a budding star catcher down at Pinelands. He's the Pitcher's Best Friend and a runner's worst nightmare with quick hands and pinpoint accuracy. Check these guys out - and get ready for a lot of fun following their dreams.
The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) will start trial operations on the Cape Town to Langa via Mutual station route, the Cape Town to Langa via Pinelands station route, and the Bellville to Ysterplaat via Lavistown station route, on the Central line corridor in the Western Cape, on Tuesday (July 26). The trial operations will determine the state of readiness to resume commuter services on the corridor. This service recovery forms part of Phase 1 of the Central line recovery programme. The Central line was closed in 2019 owing to theft and vandalism. Subsequent recovery work on the corridor was also hampered by illegal occupations on the rail network during the Level 5 lockdown amid the Covid-19 pandemic. The resumption of the service on the lines is a major milestone given the difficulties experienced with the relocation of households on the rail reserve, as well as the constant attacks by criminal syndicates on security personnel, says PRASA. “While the relocation project, led by the Housing Development Agency (HDA), is at an advanced stage, PRASA revised its strategy to resume the much-awaited services on the Central line, which now involves cordoning off the informal settlements for the safe running of trains ahead of schedule, while HDA finalises the relocation process.” To resume this service, PRASA had to rebuild the infrastructure from the ground up, notes the agency. “Vandalised/stolen electrical cables, perway (tracks), and railway clips, including the foundation that supports the rail network, have all been replaced. “This also includes the rehabilitation of five vandalised substations that power the rail network. “To safeguard the rail infrastructure, PRASA has increased security on the ground for the safety of our commuters and staff. We have also installed anti-vandalism and antitheft technology to mitigate against future theft and vandalism.”

Tom Knezick is the General Manager of Pinelands Nursery & Supply. He became interested in the agricultural and the nursery industry as a child when he planted his first pussy willow at age 2. As 2nd generation nurseryman, his parents Don & Suzanne Knezick started the nursery in 1984. Tom's primary focus is bringing a business-minded approach to growing, selling, and marketing native plants. Pinelands Nursery is proud to supply local ecotype trees, shrubs, grasses, forbs & seeds to the Mid-Atlantic and the Northeast grown from wild-collected seed. Most of the plants they grow are planted in ecological restoration projects from Virginia to Massachusetts, creating landscapes that attract pollinators, curb climate change, prevent flooding, and create wildlife habitat. Tom is a member of the New Jersey Nursery & Landscape Association Board of Directors, Atlantic Seed Association Executive Committee, and is Secretary of NJ Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Agriculture Professionals. He also operates an e-commerce garden center with his wife Melissa, and recently had his first child.
