00:00 Introductions 01:20 Censorship in Comedy 10:46 Mr. Weeks on Twitter 18:32 Political Fanatics 28:19 The War on Christmas 31:49 The Trump $2 Bill —Aloe Mean is sitting in for Jake this week. Good times. —Reginald D. Hunter told a joke that a couple people thought was “naughty.” (Or, more specifically, anti-Semitic.) Quiz: what happened next? a) Nothing! Adults understand that not every joke is not for every person, and everyone went on with their lives. b) A theater that had booked the comedian cancelled his upcoming show because of the “controversy,” while at the same time releasing a statement that said they believed in an artist's right to free expression If you guessed (b), you're right! Yes, the idea that we need to cater to two crybabies in an audience of a hundred or a thousand is king, because the most sensitive among us should be pandered to. Aloe and nathan discuss the continuation of cancel culture by those in authority. —If you haven't been glancing on Twitter over the past few days (it's August 18th, as I write), you're missing out.  @WonderKing82 is dishing all there is to dish on Barron Trump, and it's delish. Apparently, the son of a narcissistic, bombastic, anti-intellectual hothead and cold, uncaring mother is a bit of a jerk. (And that's putting it mildly.) Gonna be interesting to see where this goes. (Hopefully somewhere. All media is currently ignoring the story. Man, you'd think liberal MSNBC or “fake news” New York Times would be all over it!) A side discussion here involves MAGA diehards: are they crazy, stupid, or both? Also: a side-side discussion involves women's healthcare, and abortion.  Because what else are two men going to have opinions on? —A quick jaunt is taken into the world of political fanatics.  For the longest time, there was a sense of normalcy on the left. Sure, Republicans were cray-cray, because not only were they openly supporting a low-IQ despot, they treated him with the reverence usually reserved for a cult leader. Biden? Eh, he was just a dude doing a job. But now, with Kamala Harris, you're seeing T-shirts and placards and “rah-rah my team!” nonsense. But, Aloe explains it nicely: they're relieved (no more Biden!) and enthused (hopefully no more Trump!) In this spot, we breakdown the short history of the growth in political strife. It began with Newt Gingrich, and got kicked into overdrive by Trump and social media. —Guess who's back? Back again… Nope, it's not Slim Shady, it's the return of idiots being outraged because a moron told them “Merry Christmas” was under attack. It's 2024, and the dumbest of the dumb are still buying into this nonsense, and they're outraged. Oh, to be dumber than a brick. —Donald Trump is amazing. He will put his name on anything, and sell it to those dumb enough to buy it. He's like Krusty The Clown. It's fantastic. Idiots on Parade: we mock the news, so you don't have to. A few years ago Al Porter was one of Ireland's most rapidly rising stars in the entertainment world. He had become the youngest headliner in Vicar Street's history at 21, his award-winning stand up was receiving rave reviews from critics, he had his own TV and radio shows, and big plans in motion for the USA. And then, as he says himself, it “all fell apart”. For reasons that we cover in this episode, Al suddenly stepped back from all of his public work and spent the next few years living at home, eating and drinking heavily, and mentally not in a good place. But now, after several years of self-reflection and analysis, and some serious work on himself to get sober, Al is back. He's selling out venues with his new stand up show, supporting great comedians like Reginald D Hunter, and he's off the booze and looking and feeling great. We met up in the studio earlier this week and over the course of almost two hours, Al told me the full story about the last few years he has spent out of the public eye and how he has got himself back on track. This is part 1 of that conversation. Toby describes how Konstantin's speech has racked up 20 million views on Twitter compared to his 30,000 (which Nick attributes to Russian interference). They also discuss Reginald D Hunter's lazy smear against GB News and Stop Funding Hate's targeting of Nick's now famous ‘peanut allergy' analogy to describe the over-sized influence of the trans lobby.  They then move on to talking about Nick's Andrew Bridgen article in the Daily Sceptic – ‘A Bridgen Too Far' – and whether invoking the holocaust is ever a wise move. They chat about Clarkson and the futility of apologising to a woke Twitchfork mob, how Harry accuses everyone of being a hatemonger (yet spews a fair amount of bile in his book) and how, within businesses, the pursuit of high social status seems to have replaced the profit motive. Joining the comedy line up this week is American comedian Reginald D Hunter. No shortage of comedy targets on either side of the Atlantic as Tim McGarry, Colin Murphy, Jake O' Kane and Neil Delamere wag the finger of blame at anyone and anything which catches their attention.

BLANK with Jim Daly & Giles Paley-Phillips

Reginald D.Hunter is an American stand-up comedian based in the United Kingdom. Originally from Albany, Georgia, Reg initially travelled to the UK at the age of 27 as a theatre student training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, He became a comedian after performing his first comedy set as a dare, for which he received £100. Realising that he enjoyed performing comedy, and that it might be profitable, he turned his attention from acting to stand-up. He has since been Perrier Award Nominated and appeared on many TV shows including Have I got News for you and 8 Out of 10 Cats. We met up with Reg back in October just after he'd returned from appearing at Edinburgh Fringe. We discussed many aspects of being a comedian and Reg's feelings around staying relevant to new audiences. We also talk about career mortality and the idea of starting again somewhere new. Reg gives Jim a personal comedy workshop to help with his stand-up fears and tells Giles about his new found enjoyment of coffee See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

RHLSTP #160: Reginald D Hunter - An Order of Travelling Monks. Richard is overly proud of himself for having created a new book of Emergency Questions, but luckily there is someone on hand who will give them short shrift, it's the comedian with the soul of a poet, Reginald D Hunter. He discusses the one thing that is better than a shrek when it comes to improving existing franchises; how Reg did and didn't break his leg; how comedic genius can be passed on via the bladder; the ultimate victory of sibling rivalry; the slow realisation of the truth about OJ Simpson; how vanity is the greatest destroyer of men; being the fourth funniest person in your family; and many more surprising revelations regarding relativity. Richard worries about ageing and death, but Reginald does not. It's a revelatory chat with a comedian who possibly unwittingly inspired this whole podcast series. This episode was recorded in Galway, Ireland I met Reginald D. Hunter many years ago in Manchester while hanging out with a group of comedians. It was before he became the comedy superstar that he is today. I liked him when we met so I have been cheering him on through the ensuing years when I saw him on countless British panel chat shows. Because he is from Georgia I felt Southern comedic pride watching him rise and it made me think that I knew him better than I actually did.  Last month we were both in Galway, Ireland to do the Galway Comedy Carnival and it was the first time we got to sit down and talk one on one.  He left his home in Georgia and headed to England many years ago to study at the Royal Academy of Dramatic acting. After graduating he started his comedy career in England and as a result he is a much bigger star in the far reaching signals of the BBC than he is on American television.  Reg is an American original subversive thinker and he is a true master of stand up comedy.  In his own words "I want to represent the people who want to have intelligent discourse." Or "I decided a long time ago that I wasn't going to coon on television." I was happy that I got to see Reginald perform several times in Galway.  It was harsh cold wind and rain while while we were in Ireland and it was a perfect comedy festival to stay inside and talk with your friends. His spiritual wisdom and Southern charm will light up any grey day and his advice to comedians is among the best yet given on this program. "Seriousness is like arthritis for a comedian." Or "You are there to be laughed at. So check your ego at the door (via Tony Woods)." Also "Words are powerful. Enjoy saying them. Lean into them." He is a man that I'm honored to get to know better in this conversation and it is my pleasure to present to you now the one and only Reginald D. Hunter!
