Send us Fan MailHave you ever spent 20 minutes writing the perfect Instagram caption, carefully choosing every word, making sure you sounded knowledgeable, only to post it and hear crickets? Then five minutes later, someone posts a reel that feels almost ridiculously simple, and somehow it takes off. People are commenting, sharing it, booking with them. And you find yourself wondering: how is that content outperforming mine? Mine is so much more valuable. After coaching hundreds of entrepreneurs across dozens of industries, I've noticed something fascinating — the people with the most expertise are often the ones who struggle the most to communicate it. Not because they aren't brilliant, but because they've forgotten what it feels like to not know what they know. Today I'm sharing the story of my Hot Reels client Christa Rypins, and the messaging shift that completely changed how she creates content.WHAT YOU'LL LEARN IN THIS EPISODE07:28 What the "curse of expertise" is and why the more experience you have, the more likely you are to fall into this trap10:55 Why people don't hire the smartest expert. Build the Business. Keep the Life. What if the goal wasn't to build the biggest business possible - but to intentionally design one that gives you enough? In this episode of the Disruptive Influence Podcast, Jeff Abracen speaks with Jacob Pegs, a writer, marketer and architect of freedom-based businesses, about creating a highly leveraged one-person business without sacrificing your health, creativity or family life.Jacob shares how becoming a father forced him to rethink the business he was building. Instead of adding more clients, employees and responsibilities, he began designing around constraints: three working days a week, a defined number of clients and a business model built on one post, one email and one offer a day.The conversation explores why people buy proximity, how content can capture and multiply your energy, and why a smaller audience of the right people can be far more valuable than tens of thousands of passive followers.Jeff and Jacob also unpack the difference between relevance and resonance, why personality is a genuine competitive advantage, and how sharing who you are can matter as much as demonstrating what you know. This episode is for creators, coaches, consultants and entrepreneurs who want to make more impact without automatically creating more work.In this episode:Why freedom must be designed into your businessHow content creates leverage beyond your available hoursThe relationship between proximity, pricing and capacityJacob's one-post, one-email, one-offer modelHow to start building an audience from zeroWhy your voice, writing and message are the real funnelThe difference between showing your expertise and sharing who you areWhy people buy relevance - and stay because of resonanceHow constraints can protect your creativity, health and familyWhy repelling the wrong people can strengthen your positioningHow to identify the small group of people your business truly needsWhy bigger revenue does not automatically create a better lifeKey ideas:Design before you scale.Set the life, schedule and capacity you want before building a business that overwhelms them.Energy plus assets creates leverage.Content, recordings, workshops and intellectual property can continue working after the original effort is complete.People buy proximity.Different offers can provide different levels of access to your thinking, support and guidance.Your voice is the funnel.Clear ideas, useful demonstrations and consistent communication can create demand without complicated systems.Relevance gets attention. Resonance builds preference.People may initially need your expertise, but your beliefs, experiences and personality help them choose you.You do not need everyone.A sustainable business may require only a small number of deeply aligned customers.Chapters00:00 – Why you only need the right 80 people00:48 – Can freedom-based businesses still be built?02:34 – Escaping the belief that success requires constant grinding04:28 – Turning your energy into leverage04:48 – Designing a three-day-a-week business07:15 – One post, one email and one offer a day08:40 – Separating your identity from your business09:49 – How to begin building an audience from zero13:21 – Showing what you do and sharing who you are16:54 – What Jacob actually helps people accomplish18:31 – Applying one model across different industries21:19 – Personality as a competitive advantage22:21 – Why people buy who you are24:44 – Giving people what they want and what they need27:31 – Staying consistent when the business starts working28:27 – Seasons, boundaries and choosing not to scale31:57 – Why your vibe attracts the right buyers32:36 – Repelling people as a positioning strategy33:45 – Finding the 80 people your business needs34:18 – Deletion by design35:49 – Jacob's original $125 offer37:42 – Starting with the person you used to be39:31 – Choosing alignment over a successful but unwanted business43:32 – The question that forces you to tell yourself the truthAbout Jacob PegsJacob Pegs is a writer, content marketer and business strategist who helps coaches, consultants and service providers build highly leveraged, marketing-led online businesses. His model is built around simplicity: one post, one email and one offer a day. In today's episode I'm bringing you the Weekly Wrap, and I'm starting with a human design cheat sheet on aura mechanics, because the manifestor "repelling" aura gets a lot of bad press and I want to clear it up.Repelling isn't rejection. If you're a manifestor, your aura is doing exactly what it's meant to do: moving the people who aren't your people out of the way so you can inspire the ones you are here to inspire. I run through all five auras so you can feel the difference, from the magnetic pull of the generator and manifesting generator, to the deep seeing of the projector and why that gift is only yours to give when there is an invitation, to the curious, sampling aura of the reflector. If the original human design language has ever made you feel like there is something wrong with you, this one is for you. From there it is a proper wrap. I share a simple reframe from the mastermind about focusing on the shadow of your defined channels instead of trying to decondition everything. I invite you to look back at who you were ten and twenty years ago and really take in how far you have come. I get into Barbault's Basket, an astrological configuration some are reading as a relaunch after the contraction of the last few years. And I talk about why building business in alignment matters, and the shift from the masculine model to the feminine one.I trust you will get what you need from this episode, and make sure you come let me know how it resonated with you on instagram @the_human_design_coachBig love,MxxOTHER RESOURCESWant more on Human Design? Relationships are hard—but not for the reasons most people think. Many of us spend years asking, "Who can I trust?" But Scripture invites us to ask a deeper question: "Am I becoming the kind of person healthy relationships can grow around?" In this teaching, we'll explore why healthy relationships require far more emotional and spiritual maturity than most of us realize. We'll unpack what the Bible says about discernment, emotional health, boundaries, forgiveness, stewardship, and the fruit that healthy people naturally produce. You'll learn: ✔ Why relationships reveal more than they create ✔ The difference between discernment and suspicion ✔ Why healthy people don't make themselves the hero of every story ✔ How to separate observation from projection ✔ Why love doesn't require pretending there's closeness that isn't there ✔ When stewardship changes without love disappearing ✔ How to stop managing your reputation and start protecting your integrity If you've been navigating difficult relationships, wondering who to trust, or trying to love people well without compromising wisdom, this message is for you.   Experience transformation inside Courage Co. Affluent clients may not be discovering you through Google or Instagram, but they absolutely use both to verify what they've already heard about you. In this episode of Design Business Freedom, I'm breaking down the 15 subtle signals that may be repelling luxury interior design clients before they ever reach out, from missing location details and clunky website navigation to generic contact forms, poor branding, and underwhelming portfolio photography. This episode pairs beautifully with Proximity to Profit, because getting into the right rooms is only the first step. Once your name has been shared by a referral partner, board colleague, architect, or trusted advisor, your website, Instagram, inquiry process, and brand presence need to confirm that you are the right designer for the level of project they're ready to invest in. These fixes will help you protect the introduction, elevate your positioning, and convert better clients with more confidence. In this episode, you'll hear: (03:54) Why your location must be easy to find on your website, Instagram bio, footer, and email signature. (06:47) Why Yelp links, Google review embeds, and other down-market credibility markers can damage your luxury positioning. (09:01) Why posting your pricing online can attract price shoppers instead of qualified design investors. (16:17) How generic website copy repels ideal clients and why your messaging needs to feel like a one-to-one love letter. (23:53) Why clunky navigation, weak inquiry forms, and missing phone numbers cause designers to lose qualified introductions. (34:35) How professional photography, project storytelling, a clear process, focused services, and consistent branding help affluent clients trust you. She also reframes financial freedom as an internal state rather than a specific number. The episode closes with a powerful reminder that shifting your relationship with money starts within. In this episode of The Retreat Leaders Podcast, Shannon sits down with Bessie Refalo, a yoga and Pilates retreat leader who is carving out a unique lane in the wellness retreat industry - reformer Pilates retreats in Europe. Bessie shares the behind-the-scenes reality of creating retreats that require specialized equipment, including the challenges of finding venues with reformer Pilates machines and the creative solutions she's used to make her retreats possible. From transporting reformers by lorry in Portugal to discovering bespoke studios in Italy, this conversation is a masterclass in persistence, adaptability, and thinking beyond traditional retreat models. Shannon and Bessie also discuss the rapid growth of the wellness retreat industry, the realities of hosting retreats in Europe, and why networking, flexibility, and on-the-ground familiarity are essential for successful international retreats. This episode is a must-listen for retreat leaders who want to expand internationally, host niche retreats, or navigate complex logistics without giving up on their vision. Key Takeaways Niche retreats (like reformer Pilates) require creativity, persistence, and flexibility. Hosting retreats with specialized equipment presents challenges - but solutions exist. Europe offers strong appeal for US-based retreat guests due to accessibility and travel interest. Building relationships with local studios and partners is key to international retreat success. Logistics, cultural differences, and local business hours matter more than most hosts expect. Networking and in-person learning accelerate retreat growth and confidence. Everything you put into the world is doing something. Your website. Your social posts. Your emails. Your videos. Your interviews. In this episode, Shannon Jamail breaks down a truth most retreat leaders avoid: if you're not repelling anyone, you're probably being too generic. Attraction is only half the conversation. Sustainable retreat businesses are built on clarity - and clarity naturally attracts the right people while filtering out the wrong ones. Shannon explains why repelling misaligned guests isn't a flaw, it's a leadership skill, and how trying to please everyone leads to burnout, boundary issues, and low-quality experiences. She also addresses a critical nuance retreat leaders need to understand: the difference between being purposeful and being polarizing - and why "anti" messaging often does more harm than good in a business rooted in trust, safety, and connection. This episode is a must-listen for retreat leaders who want aligned guests, healthier group dynamics, and a business that actually feels good to run. Key Takeaways Everything you create either attracts or repels - and both are necessary. If you're trying to be liked by everyone, your message is likely watered down. Repelling misaligned people protects your energy, your team, and your guests. Clear messaging prevents boundary issues, complaints, and emotional drain. Strong leadership is about standing firmly in who you are - not pleasing everyone. There's a difference between purposeful messaging and polarizing, anti-focused content. Being pro what you stand for builds trust far more effectively than being anti anything. Clarity in your brand leads to alignment, ease, and long-term sustainability.     The Retreat Leaders Podcast Resources and Links: Learn to Host Retreats Join our private Facebook Group Top 5 Marketing Tools Free Guide Get your legal docs for retreats Join Shannon in Denver at the Retreat Industry Forum  Join our LinkedIn Group Apply to be a guest on our show   Thanks for tuning into the Retreat Leaders Podcast. Dangers of Being Generic (00:02:30) Discusses the pitfalls of trying to appeal to everyone, leading to diluted messaging and misaligned clients. Personal Examples of Not Being for Everyone (00:03:46) Shannon shares personal examples of who she is not a fit for, emphasizing the value of clarity over universal appeal. Benefits of Repelling the Wrong People (00:04:49) Highlights how repelling protects your energy, business, and ensures better alignment with clients. Retreat Industry Forum Announcement (00:04:49) Brief interruption to promote the upcoming Retreat Industry Forum event in Denver. Consequences of Appealing to Everyone (00:05:56) Describes negative outcomes when trying to please everyone, such as draining retreats and constant complaints. Purposeful vs. Polarizing Content (00:07:06) Advises against posting highly polarizing or anti-focused content, distinguishing between being purposefully polarizing and divisive. Pro-What-You-Stand-For vs. Anti-Others (00:08:28) Encourages leaders to focus on what they are for, not what they are against, and the impact on trust and safety. Brand Clarity and Authentic Leadership (00:09:46) Urges retreat leaders to clearly communicate who they serve and to lead authentically and inclusively. You're doing all the right things to market your mastermind, but the sign-ups just aren't coming. The problem might not be your offer at all. If you're marketing your mastermind right now, whether it's launching in December or further ahead, this conversation is for you. Through my journey of building a sustainable business model, I've observed certain sneaky pitfalls that can inadvertently discourage potential clients, and today I'm bringing these nuances under the microscope. In this episode, I break down four subtle ways you might be repelling people from your mastermind without even realising it. From blurry messaging that says everything and nothing all at once, to showing up with the voice of a coach rather than a leader, these patterns can make it harder for the right people to see the value you're bringing. I share what I've learnt about the importance of clear frameworks, confident presence and why leadership needs to take centre stage. We also dive into the power of authentic thought leadership and why relying too heavily on the wisdom of others can make your message blend into the sea of existing ideas. I explore the tricky tightrope of needing clients without broadcasting desperation, and how shifting from urgency to exclusivity can completely transform your energy and the response you receive. When you address these subtle patterns, you naturally enhance your offering's allure and make it so much easier for the right people to join your mastermind.LINKSWorkshop: 5 New Mastermind Clients by ChristmasConnect with Ellie: Doors are NOW OPEN for The Mastermind Model ellieswift.com/model  Apply for the Scalable Freedom Mastermind hereFREE Private Podcast “Inside a 7-Figure Mastermind Business” hereWebsite:         https://www.ellieswift.com/Instagram:     @elliehswiftFacebook Group:     www.facebook.com/groups/shineonsocialellieswift/

The ones who are more likely to engage, convert, and ultimately become clients. But if your branding is too vague, your content is too broad, or your tone doesn't match your ideal customer, your audience won't feel like they've found their place. They won't feel seen, understood, or interested in what comes next. And if your audience is full of the wrong people, it doesn't matter how great your mic is or how much energy you bring to your episodes, your podcast won't deliver ROI. I recorded this as part of a five-day training I did for my League of Extraordinarily Connected Parents (which, by the way, is the BEST group of humans ever), and halfway through planning it, I thought, "Wait! EVERYONE needs to hear this!"What You're About to Discover:I'm spilling ALL the tea about the three MASSIVE mistakes I used to make as a parent (and sometimes still catch myself making because, hello, I'm human!). These are the sneaky little thought patterns that absolutely DESTROY our connection with our kids:The "Shoulda, Woulda, Coulda" Complex – Oh my goodness, I was QUEEN of this one! That mental loop of "they should have known better" or "they could have done this differently" that runs through our heads? It triggers our kids' nervous systems INSTANTLY. I share a story about getting pulled over by a police officer who taught me the most incredible lesson about setting boundaries without shame. Game. Changer. The "Please Just Listen!" Desperate Energy – Remember when my kids were little and I'd literally cross my fingers hoping they'd cooperate that day? That graspy, needy energy is REPELLING our kids! I share this wild story about a street performer who attracted HUNDREDS of people without begging anyone to listen. What if we could parent like THAT?The "I Can't Figure This Out" Self-Doubt Spiral – This one hits deep. That voice that says it's too late, we're not patient enough, we can't change? It's a LIE. I unpacked what true self-confidence really means (hint: it's not what you think!).Here's the crazy part – I didn't even realize how these thought patterns were RUNNING MY LIFE as a parent until I started questioning them. Our thoughts create our emotions, which fuel our actions... and then we wonder why we keep getting the same frustrating results!I challenge you to ask yourself:Where am I "shoulding" my kids today?Where am I being graspy and desperate for cooperation?Where do I doubt my ability to change?Connection over correction, always. ❤️Let's do this parenting thing differently, AndeeNext Steps: Leave a review if you've been enjoying the CMP Podcast

This is all about saving you time and energy and making room for clients that are the right fit. [01:16] I'm going to share strategies and close with a couple of scripts to gracefully decline clients that are the wrong fit. [01:49] Set clear expectations through your messaging in all of your media from your sales page to social. Identify who the offer is for. [02:26] Have a section that explains who this program is for. Give a menu.  [03:59] Prequalify your prospects with some type of screening process.  [04:29] Things to look at when you're not closing 75% of your consultation calls. How can I minimize calls that are the wrong fit? Am I closing those who are the right fit? [05:21] You could have a short questionnaire prescreening before a prospective client books a call. Keep it under five minutes.  [06:15] Talk about pricing. Give a range of prices. What are you looking to invest? [09:10] Use budget as a natural filter. This can be an opportunity to bless and release. [10:14] Based on what you've shared and what's important to you and specifically what you're looking to accomplish, I get a sense that what I offer isn't the right nextstep for you. Respectfully bring the conversation to a close. [11:26] Think about being transparent with your pricing. [12:56] Sales isn't about you, it's about the prospect. [13:40] Nikki shares a story of a client who didn't want to put her prices on her website. Having to ask about pricing can alienate a client. [16:43] Benefits of repelling the wrong clients. It reduces tire kickers. Sometimes you have to clear the field so you're not overloaded. [18:13] After reviewing the notes from our call and thinking about what you're wanting to accomplish, I don't feel like what I offer is the right nextstep for you. So I'm going to respectfully decline offering a proposal to avoid wasting your time.   For more actionable sales tips, download the FREE Closing The Sale Ebook.   Find Nikki: Nikki Rausch nikki@yoursalesmaven.com Facebook | Twitter | LinkedIn | Instagram Sales Maven Society Work With Nikki Discussion To download free Resources from Nikki: www.yoursalesmaven.com/maven    Resources:  Episode 247: How to Handle Tire Kickers: Turn Indecisive Prospects into Committed Clients

I continue to ponder the message from Israa Nasir in her book, Toxic Productivity: Reclaim Your Time and Emotional Energy in a World That Always Demands More. And I'm thinking about the people in and around my life and what attracts me to some and not others. And I'm realizing that the really busy people, even if they might seem important, don't inspire me to pursue them. And the people that are more available, I innately have more respect and desire for. Which has me looking at myself and considering how I come off to others and how I'm probably limiting my opportunities for relationships and connection. Is Trump Attracting Men? Or Is Biden Repelling Them?

The Argument

Former President Donald J. Trump's appearance at a U.F.C. match this week seems to be part of a larger strategy to attract men — especially young men — to his cause. But what can President Biden do to change the narrative that “the left doesn't like men”?This week, Michelle Cottle and Carlos Lozada are joined by their (male) Opinion colleagues Jamelle Bouie and David French to debate why men are becoming more conservative and whether Trump's masculine appeal is about policy or his “manliness.”(A full transcript of this episode will be available within 24 hours of publication on the Times website.)“Audience of One: Trump, Television and the Fracturing of America” by James Poniewozik“American Sniper” directed by Clint EastwoodMay 2024 Times/Siena poll of the presidential battlegroundsThoughts about the show?
