October 13-19I stand in Far West, a rather obscure place in northern Missouri, and as far as I can see, where once there was a bustling community of Latter-day Saints with homes, shops and a school, there are only empty fields. What happened to the people who once were here and why is only silence left behind? How could it possibly be that a sitting governor could order an extermination order on a group of people? Here in America? Unthinkable. It's a human, heart-breaking story that gives us context for today's lesson.

Today, I'm honored to share a conversation with Sharon Eubank, the Global Humanitarian Director for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and now, the author of a beautiful new book called Doing Small Things with Great Love: How Everyday Humanitarians Are Changing the World. For nearly three decades, Sharon has led humanitarian efforts in more than 190 countries, helping millions through projects that span from emergency relief to long-term community development. In her new book, she distills what she's learned into 12 guiding principles — lessons that remind us that each of us is most powerful where we live, that real help is always an exchange, and that service can be one of the most joyful things we do. We spoke about what it means to serve with dignity, how small acts can ripple across the world, and how faith and compassion can unite us even in divided times. Andronicus was a goldsmith who lived in Antioch during the reign of Theodosius the Great (379-395). He and his wife Athanasia were devout Christians who strove to follow Christ in all things. They gave a third of all that they earned to the poor, another third to the Church, and lived on the remainder. After they had two children, they agreed to live henceforth as brother and sister.
