Nobody is successful in life without overcoming failure and adversity several times along the way. We're revisiting some of the most compelling interviews ever on Impact Theory in this mashup. Tai Lopez, Jay Williams, David Bayer, and Tim Grover have got heavy-duty stories about not quitting, what you need to do if you find yourself in a hole, and how you can pivot to a better life. Tai Lopez is an entrepreneur, author, investor, motivational speaker, crypto philanthropist, and creator of The 67 Steps Program. By age 21, Jay Williams had achieved his dreams of playing in the NBA and becoming wealthy. But before his second season, he suffered a horrific motorcycle accident that led to 10 surgeries, months in the ICU, and doubts that he would walk again. It took him years to heal, but he eventually clawed his way out of the darkness to become a popular NBA analyst. David Bayer built a series of highly successful internet ventures but paid a price, battling long-term drug addiction and alcoholism. He eventually recovered and embraced a new addiction…personal evolution. Tim Grover is an iconic peak performance and mental toughness trainer who has coached hundreds of athletes, including Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. [Original air date: 8-11-22]. Eric Fong is no stranger to adversity. A renowned trial lawyer with over 25 years of experience and hundreds of high stakes civil and criminal cases under his belt, he's seen the worst life can throw at people. But the struggles were often not only in the courtrooms but also in his own life as he grappled with addiction for years. Today, however, he stands on the other side of the struggle as a beacon of hope for those who find themselves in similar hardships. From Lawyer to Addiction, and Back Eric's fascination with law sparked the beginning of his professional journey. As he hustled in the courtrooms, arguing and defending, he fell into the clutches of addiction that affected both his professional and personal life. Eric shared that he was so engrossed in addiction that he became a recluse and stopped accepting cases. The result was catastrophic – his addiction destroyed his practice, created turmoil in his personal life, and cost him his family. Despite several attempts at pledging sobriety, Eric always found himself relapsing. However, after realizing his behavior was rapidly spiraling out of control, he took the first decisive step towards sobriety. Eric turned to various forms of therapy, sought help, and found the 12 Steps Program to be particularly beneficial. It's been more than five years since then, and Eric now stands on the sober side of life, rebuilding not just his career but his entire existence. The Turnaround: Empathy and Compassion for Law Eric's personal journey of overcoming addiction and rejuvenating his life and career gave him an unexpected advantage – increased empathy and compassion for his cases and clients. His difficult past has allowed him to understand other people's struggles in a way that few in his profession are able to. This empathy translates into a stronger commitment towards his clients and a more understanding approach, making him a better lawyer. The Pitfalls of the Wrong Paths Eric's story draws attention to the current state of the criminal justice system, which he describes as a flawed social experiment. He believes that punishment doesn't inherently create change, and it is rather supporting, teaching, and rehabilitating individuals that truly make a difference. The mass incarceration problem, Eric argues, is partly a result of systemic injustice that favors the few who can afford high-quality legal help. Balancing the scales of justice and giving equal legal representation to all, in his view, is a pressing challenge. The Path to Happiness: Mastering Adversity When it comes to happiness, Eric stresses the importance of confronting one's unhappiness. The pathway to happiness is rooted in understanding and acknowledging whatever is making us unhappy, he says. We must confront our fears, the things that cause us shame or embarrassment, those aspects that prevent us from achieving happiness. Eric Fong's life delivers a powerful message. Overcoming addiction, rejuvenating a derailed career, and becoming a voice for justice reform – Eric's journey illustrates the innate human potential for transformation and resilience. His belief in redemption, rehabilitation, and the power of empathy offers hope and a beacon for those finding their own path out of adversity. It serves as a reminder that happiness doesn't come easy, it requires conquering difficult times, and it is in overcoming adversity that one can truly find the source of happiness – a source that Eric Fong found on his journey and shares with people he represents today. After all, happiness happens when we least expect it, especially when we embrace and overcome our struggles. We'll touch on: 0:00 Intro 4:20 What does happiness mean to you 05:49 Life as a Greek Tragedy 10:26 Should most offenders have the opportunity to rehabilitate? 15:57 The need for creative thinking in leaders and the problem with having older leaders 21:33 Eric's story with addiction 25:12 The moment he decided enough was enough 29:45 How his experiences have affected his work as a lawyer 31:21 Keeping empathy for the people he works with 33:22 Looking critically at the law 36:45 One way you take care of your mental, physical, emotional, spiritual health 38:58 How to create a little more happiness in your day, every day, starting today Resources: Podcast Resources: https://www.simonacostantini.com/resources Apply to be a podcast guest: https://forms.gle/ Happiness Guide: https://simonacostantini.ck.page/happinesshub Passion Struck Book: https://passionstruck.com/passion-struck-book/ Connect with Eric https://www.linkedin.com/in/eric-fong-6963237/ Connect with Simona www.instagram.com/simona__costantini www.instagram.com/costantiniproductions www.instagram.com/happinesshappenspodcast https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXtOxOAuXxW7c5cYKdAEfWg https://www.facebook.com/costantiniproductions https://www.facebook.com/happinesshappenspodcast/ www.simonacostantini.com

Fr. Eric Nicolai preached this meditation at Lyncroft Centre in Toronto, on March 4, 2023. During Lent our goal is that of St. Paul: "I have been crucified with Christ and it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me." (Gal 2, 20). This identification with Christ has 4 steps in a staircase towards Christ Jesus. The first step in this staircase is the most superficial one: Corporal mortification. The next step in the staircase is the care of little things. The third step is interior mortification. Finally the most difficult step, number 4, is passive mortification. We need to talk about the 12 steps program. What is it? How does it work? What does it apply to? When do we need to work on it? What are other addictions that are narcotics, and alcohol. What are the anonymous groups? How can I reach them? How to help if I know someone who is going through the program and what to do if I need to work on it myself? Anu Verma interviews Mr. John Giordano who is an expert in the treatment of addiction, mental health, and the founder of The National Institute For Holistic Addiction Studies (NIFHAS). He is the author of “Proven Holistic Treatment For Addiction & Chronic Relapse,” and his most recent book is the acclaimed: “How To Beat Your Addictions And live A Quality Life,” as well as being the co-author of “Molecular Neurobiology of Addiction Recovery: The 12 Steps Program and Fellowship.” Over twenty years ago, Giordano founded the prestigious G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment Center in North Miami Beach, Florida — a 62 bed in-patient/out-patient JCAHO accredited addiction treatment facility. It was by no accident that John Giordano chose addiction and mental health treatment as his life's work. Growing up the son of a heroin dealer and trying to cope with the trauma of being molested as a young boy, he fell hard into drugs and alcohol. Over thirty-five years ago, at the urging of his family, John entered rehab. He emerged a changed man – committed to helping others afflicted by this terrible disease. Giving back to his community has always been core principle of Mr. Giordano's. His efforts to better his community have also been recognized. Florida State Congresswoman Carrie Meek presented Mr. Giordano with the distinguished “Martin Luther King Award” for his work in the community. He was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Homeless Community of Dade County and the Humanitarian Award from South Florida Public Television Station, Cable Tap.As he began his career in addiction treatment, he became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of care he observed in treatment facilities. John decided to set out on his own and with only $300 he opened an addiction treatment facility that evolved into the highly awarded, JCAHO accredited, 62 bed G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment in North Miami Beach, Florida which eventually sold for $45,000,000. John's achievements have not gone unnoticed; he is one of the media's most sought after addiction expert. Mr. Giordano has appeared on countless notable national and local TV programs such as: CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, FOX Mornings with Mike and Juliet, Tom Brokaw NBC News, ABC news, CNN Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Geraldo, and “Interventions” on A&E as well as many other national and local TV and radio shows. Thanks For Listening! Kass Thomas is Dr. Brad Miller's guest on Episode 183 of "The Beyond Adversity Podcast." Kass is an international best-selling author, coach, communication trainer, and Access Consciousness® Certified Facilitator. She has a new 3 STEPS Program, which features a different topic each month to help people along their life's journey! She also offers private sessions, group training, and live and online workshops on relationships, Business Management, Money, Health, Wealth, and Beauty. She co-writes books and has two of her own. Her first book, "7 Steps to Flawless Communication," was published in 2015 and is now available in 20 languages, along with a teacher's program at www.7steps.us. Her second book, "Dancing with Riches," was released in French by Tredaniel Publisher in 2019 and is now available in English by Schiffer Publishing. In this episode, Kass shared when you are not willing to give up when you are eager to keep going. The world will open up something unique for you. Living in the United States is one of the cities with many universities. And Kass' awareness as a child was that she wanted to go a little global, to have a larger really platform from which she could find what worked for her, and that was not accepted. When she was eight years old, she had a third-grade teacher in Boston's Roxburgh neighborhood who would write in French on the board every day. And it sparked something in Kass: the realization that she wanted to live in Paris and speak the language one day. When we feel that we aren't on the same page as others, especially mentors, parents, or instructors, we often choose to follow what they think is best for us. If you believe in God, you should also be willing to receive help. When you are linked to yourself, you will have constant support from the cosmos, God, Allah Buddha, and others. Don't lose touch with yourself. That's what we do when we're trying to emulate someone on a pedestal or a role model. But no one is there, and no one on the earth can perform well as you. Episode 183 of The Beyond Adversity Podcast is a must-listen for the people who are keen on listening and taking the advice of others, even if they know that their plans for themselves are better ones. It's an episode where it deals with going after what you want, taking risks, and taking the leap of faith to find the better version of "you." "The Beyond Adversity Podcast with Dr. Brad Miller is published weekly with the mission of helping people "Grow Through What They Go Through" as they navigate adversity and discover their promised life of peace, prosperity, and purpose. For a long time humanity have been caught in a web of shame and addiction. One may try to fight it, but you can't win the shame game - this is where surrender comes in. The whole idea (cultivated by authority) that we feel awful but we can go to stimulation and pleasure to cope with it, and that one can sustain a job and a healthy, happy life while keeping one's addictions just enough under control to keep going, since it's worked so far at keeping you going, even if it's a zombie-like existence of feeling dead but being alive. If we can admit, were not in control, like the 12 Steps Program teaches, and call upon a higher power to help us heal and recover, we can transform our lives dramatically for the better - after all we're not the doer, were part of something greater than our individual selves, and admitting that allows loving, more powerful energies to guide us to a higher purpose in life. And every person who transforms their life for the better enables many more people to do the same - this is how we build a better more loving and peaceful New Earth together. If you're interested why not check out my conversation with Mark - perhaps you'll enjoy it as much as we did. https://www.the12steps.co.uk Mark's Website and Social Media: https://markanthonylord.me https://www.youtube.com/user/markanthonylord https://www.instagram.com/markanthonylord/ https://www.facebook.com/RevMarkAnthonyLord

A big change is coming to everything Arabic in 60 steps, Sam of Somalia, My Arabic World, Somali on Lockdown and everything else I do. I have spread myself too thin over the past 5 or 6 years and to best serve my audience and to have more clarity for myself, I need to bring everything together into one personal project. So everything is becoming "Sam Martin Burr". ONE Website: https://www.sammartinburr.com/ ONE Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/SamMartinBurr ONE YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC8lW3WnxCLydHMtAvlDud3Q ONE Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/sammartinburr/ ONE TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sammartinburr ONE Podcast (Coming soon). On this new platform I'll be sharing my love for and helping others learn Arabic as usual, Somali as before and a new passion of mine: Bengali as I document my journey learning a whole new language! So what about current programs/ platforms and their students? 1) The Arabic in 60 Steps. The course website will close. All students who have/will enrol before 25th September 2021 will get the added opportunity to download all materials to keep for life and use offline (For those who don't have space to download such a large course, I will offer another solution tbd). The What'sapp support number will continue to be available as promised. *** If 80 more students join the program before 25/9/21, I will send FREE, PRINTED workbooks to every singe student who has joined since June 1st. So if you want to jump in, please don't hesitate because you can all get free workbooks out of it! Going forward, the Arabic in 60 Steps Program will be sold as a Textbook and a Workbook on Amazon with accompanying online resources. All support and services you would like from me will be available to those on my Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/SamMartinBurr *** The are 16 places on my Patreon for people to be taught 1-1 by me every week, so please have a look and see if you'd like to be part of it! 2) My Arabic World. Rather than being hosted on a subscription site, I'll be publishing My Arabic World - "A book of Arabic moments", on Amazon which will be accompanied by links to all relevant videos. Every single student who has ever paid for My Arabic World in any way will be given a free copy of the Ebook to keep and all subscription payments will be stopped. 3) Sam of Somalia YouTube channel and TikTok. I haven't created any Somali language content on those platforms for months now and I feel like it's time to give them to a project which benefits the Somali people who always supported the Sam of Somalia brand. Details will come soon but an idea we have in mind is to use it to help the Deaf community in Somalia and launch new resources. 4) We will also be publishing our 2 most popular Somali language resources as books in both print and Ebook form: "Somali on Lockdown" and "My first 1,000 Somali Words". Everyone who subscribed to SomaliLanguage.com will be sent copies for free. ANY QUESTIONS AT ALL? Email me at sammartinburr@gmail.com
Nine Steps to Control that Insatiable Sweet Tooth Sugar is a craveable ingredient. Eating sugar releases opioids and dopamine in our bodies. This is the link between added sugar and addictive behavior. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that is a key part of the “reward circuit” associated with addictive behavior. It seems like everyone has that evil sweet tooth, and we must control our sugar cravings before they get the best of us. By getting these sugar cravings under control, then we have a better chance to maintain a healthy weight and live a healthier lifestyle. Listen to this podcast and watch the video to learn the 9 Tips to Control Sugar Cravings. Here's nine steps to control your sweet tooth: The first step is awareness of how much sugar you are consuming daily. If you think you are indulging in the white stuff, then try cutting back by 50%. Count how much sugar grams you are taking in daily and remember it should be around 15 to 22 grams of sugar daily. Naturally occurring sugar from whole fruit can be utilized as an energy source as well to appease the sweet tooth instead of grabbing the simple carbohydrates. Reading labels to monitor your daily sugar intake will be crucial to getting it under control. Remember that any ingredient ending in “-ose” is probably derived from sugar. Quench the sugar craving with plain water since a dehydrated body will crave more sweets. Instead of waiting to become dehydrated, you can set an hourly timer to remind yourself to drink a large glass of water. Eat balanced meals with whole foods as opposed to processed foods that may contain hidden sugar ingredients. The key to balancing blood sugar is to eat foods that prevent too much insulin from being released, such as protein and healthy fats. Eating a clean food regime will start the detox and cleansing process and help prevent sugar cravings. Before reaching for a sugary treat, try adding greens to your meals and even bake them for healthy, crunchy and yummy snacks. If you must satisfy that sugar craving, then opt for a healthier alternative with natural sugars from fruits or a small piece of dark chocolate. Magnesium regulates glucose and insulin levels, as well as the neurotransmitter dopamine. A deficiency will cause intense sugar cravings, especially for chocolate. You may have a candida overgrowth that makes you crave more sugar. Taking an organic acid test, where you can check your markers and discover where the imbalances are to correct. Staying mindful of your sugar cravings and going deeper looking into why you think you need or want that sugar can uncover deep-rooted food issues and feelings that may be causing a vicious cycle in your body and mind. Learning how sugar negatively affects our health and contributes to weight gain, obesity, impaired memory, increased risk of heart disease, and diabetes may help you reduce your sugar intake. Always remember that your health is worth the planning, mindfulness, time, and effort to live a healthier lifestyle…all because YOU are worth it! Don't let Sugar cravings stand in your way to weight loss and mood swings. It was by no accident that John Giordano chose addiction treatment as his life’s work. Growing up the son of a heroin dealer and trying to cope with the trauma of being molested as a young boy, he fell hard into drugs and alcohol. Over thirty-five years ago, at the urging of his family, John entered rehab. He emerged a changed man - committed to helping others afflicted by this terrible disease. His new path required new knowledge. He has since earned many degrees and certifications including Certified Addiction Professional (CAP), Master Addiction Counselor (MAC), Certified Hypnotherapist, Certified Criminal Justice Specialist, Master in Neurolinguistics Programming, Certified Practitioner of E.M.D.R, Certified Sentence Mitigation Specialist, Certified Mindfulness and Powerful Mind-Body Awareness Therapy Skills, International Certified Alcohol & Drug Counselor, and in 2008 he was honored with a Doctor of Human Letters from Sinai University in Jerusalem Israel. As he began his career in addiction treatment he became increasingly dissatisfied with the quality of care he observed in treatment facilities. John decided to set out on his own and with only $300 he opened an addiction treatment facility that evolved into the highly awarded G & G Holistic Addiction Treatment in North Miami Beach, Florida which eventually sold for $45,000,000. John has authored two books “How To Beat Your Addictions And Live A Quality Life", “Proven Holistic Treatment For Addiction & Chronic Relapse” and was a contributing author for ‘Molecular Neurobiology of Addiction Recovery: The 12 Steps Program and Fellowship’. with the esteemed Dr. Blum and Dr. Gold. He has also contributed to over 73 scientific research papers. Research Gate ranks him as one of the top researchers in the world. John’s achievements have not gone unnoticed; he is one of the media’s most sought after addiction expert. Mr. Giordano has appeared on countless notable national and local TV programs such as CBS Evening News with Katie Couric, FOX Mornings with Mike and Juliet, Tom Brokaw NBC News, ABC News, CNN Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer, The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch, Geraldo, and “Interventions” on A&E as well as many other national and local TV and radio shows. Giving back to his community has always been the core principle of Mr. Giordano’s. His efforts to better his community have also been recognized. Florida State Congresswoman Carrie Meek presented Mr. Giordano with the distinguished “Martin Luther King Award” for his work in the community. He was also awarded the Certificate of Appreciation from the Homeless Community of Dade County and the Humanitarian Award from South Florida Public Television Station, WPBT. In addition to his daily responsibilities; John has provided counseling and trauma recovery services to law enforcement officers and Iraq and Afghanistan war veterans. He is a state and federal expert witness and also the Chaplain of the North Miami Police Department. As a 10th-degree black belt and National Karate Champion, he also trains law enforcement officers and Green Berets in self-defense and negotiation techniques. - interview by Felipe Blue, MA, LCAS, CSI of More Than Therapy, a program of FAEJ Foundation in Durham, NC. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/morethantherapy/message
Matt Young of King Parrot & Crisis Act & I have a conversation about how he coped with 2020, launching his new project CrisisAct, becoming Sober, working in a drug & alcohol rehabilitation center, rediscovering his identity, applying the 12 Steps Program to the band, advice for anyone who is struggling, how he will tackle alcohol with his children, a sober stage persona & the silver lining of the pandemic. Throughout this interview Matt was drinking a Dirty Chai & I was drinking Brasserie Les 2 Frères ' "Hickson - Non-Alcoholic IPA"! This N/A IPA poured out with a slightly veiled dark yellow veil, slammed citrus on the nose, smashed a slightly bitter yet refreshing finish & was refreshing. Step Two of the 12 Steps of recovery from the disease of addiction. "We came to believe in a Power greater than ourselves that could restore us to sanity." In this episode, we go over the meaning of what step two is all about. We are or have been in the grip of an addiction that has taken over our lives and we are out of control. Step two introduces a Power greater than ourselves, which for some comes easily, however for a lot of us it is a concept that is beyond anything we feel could possibly help. This was me, and I hope by listening to this episode you will see you are not alone. The power my addiction had over me was greater than me, I had to first admit that this was true and that I needed a Power greater than myself to get out from this deep dark hole I was in. I finally did accept a Power greater than myself and my recovery then began, without it I could have never gone into remission of this disease and still be in remission today 37 years later. From one addict to another, I suggest this is an episode that will change your life if you are willing to let go of the past and begin an amazing journey to freedom from active addiction.
"Step One" of the 12 Steps of recovery from addiction, "We admit e are powerless over our addiction and our lives had become unmanageable.

“Lack of power, that was our dilemma. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves.” ~Alcoholics Anonymous Have you ever felt afraid or powerless when it comes to addiction--afraid there's nothing you can do to protect your family? At times, addiction may seem like a mystery. It may be be unaware of what's really going on in our own homes. As mothers, we need to understand addiction in order to fortify our families and know how to help them when they struggle. The GREAT NEWS is that just as in other keys areas of life, there are guiding principles surrounding addiction. There is hope because we can learn and live these principles, then teach them to our families and strengthen them against addiction -- helping them know how to stay free from addiction's bonds. The key is having an intimate understanding of the triggers of addiction and their corresponding antidotes. These empower us to see what's behind the addictive behavior to what is really happening in the hearts of minds of those battling addiction. Once we can diagnose the spiritual issue, we can use these anecdotes to provide clarity and needed changes. When partnered with the 12 Steps Program and effective sponsorship, every addict can find permanent sobriety! In this podcast, Audrey Rindlisbacher will share foundational principles of addiction. Through personal experience, Audrey is here to tell us there is hope, there are guiding principles we can stand on, and, ultimately, there is a higher Power we can reach up to for that change of heart we seek in ourselves and those we love. We had to find a power by which we could live, and it had to be a Power greater than ourselves.” ~Alcoholics Anonymous “So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making. They arise out of ourselves, and the alcoholic is an extreme example of self-will run riot, though he usually does not think so. Above everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness. We must, or it kills us! God makes that possible.” ~Alcoholics Anonymous “Resentment is the ‘number one' offender. It destroys more alcoholics than anything else. From it stems all forms of spiritual disease, for we have been not only mentally and physically ill, we have been spiritually sick. When the spiritual malady is overcome, we straighten out mentally and physically.” ~Alcoholics Anonymous “I would respect you if you felt that you needed to remove yourself from your marriage. What you've endured is very hard. But you are not a fool to stay and be a part of the redemptive work in man's life.” ~Pastor Dan to Cindy Beall “As I drove back to Georgetown that afternoon, I heard God's voice over and over and over in my head. ‘Do you trust Me?' I was hesitant to answer Him; I knew what saying yes would mean. It would mean staying in a marriage that was deeply wounded, nearly destroyed. It would mean forgiving a man for breaking his marriage vows over and over again. It would mean remaining in a trustless marriage until Chris could build that trust back up, which may take the rest of his life. But after wrestling in prayer and remembering the promises that God had made to me in His Word...
Earlier this month, the UN released a sobering report on global warming, warning that carbon dioxide emissions would peak sooner than previously thought. Environmentalists are calling for a radical path forward. "It's clear that we're at the edge of disaster and we have to really move fast now," warned Lewis Fulton, Co-Director of the STEPS Program within the Institute of Transportation Studies at the University of California, Davis. Fulton, one of two guests on this weekend's In Depth, has worked internationally in the field of transport, energy, environment analysis and policy development for more than 2 decades. How--or, can--we transition to a more environmentally sustainable way of life? "The solutions are many and the challenge is complex," explained UC Davis Assistant Professor Rebecca Hernandez. "And I think a lot of the listeners who may be tuning in right now can feel a little bit overwhelmed and maybe that the decisions that they're making may not have an impact on what's really happening. And I can empathize with that as a scientist." Hernandez, who joined Fulton with guest host Jeffrey Schaub on In Depth focuses her research efforts on aridland ecology and sustainability. "Cost is a huge barrier to renewable energy penetration," she said. "There are several policy based tools that we can use. But ... what I'd like the listeners to know is that every decision that they make to make their house more green or to reduce their intake of meat or to ride their bike, all of that really adds up at the global scale. What you're doing right now is really making a difference and when we're looking for climate change heroes in every community across diverse groups. We need climate change heroes in our government, in our churches, in our firms and businesses and in the communities that we exist in."
