I'm Adam Lane, your host, and I'm thrilled to have Dr. Tim Cummings joining me today.  Dr. Tim Cummings wears many hats - he's a strength coach, physical therapist, writer, speaker, and his wife, Jess, the visionary behind Restore/Thrive. Tim splits his time between helping athletes, parents, and coaches fix acute and long-standing orthopedic injuries and programming post-rehab training programs for individuals looking to return to active lifestyles after an injury. He received his Bachelor of Arts in Exercise Science from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2004 and his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Southwest Baptist University in 2010. He was certified as a Titleist Performance Institute Certified Trainer in 2011. He was certified as an IMPACT Concussion Management Provider in 2012, and he was the first physical therapist in Kansas City to earn recognition as a MovNat certified trainer in 2014. He was the first physical therapist in Kansas City designated as a MobilityWOD Certified Practitioner in 2015. He became a Power Athlete Block One Coach in 2020. Before starting his physical therapy and performance practice, Tim practiced with the renowned Elite Physical Therapy and Integrative Medicine, recognized in the Kansas City metro as an innovative physical therapy practice. I used to be quite low on St. Pat's but I have finally realized that there are many ways to be happy on this day of Irish celebration.  I live in a very "unusual" area that has no Irish culture at all.  I am a Celtic performer who must travel quite a distance in order to perform at festivals and events but that is impossible during the week since I work a regular job. I used to be sad to see all of my friends on Facebook singing and playing all week long!  I wanted so much to be with them and enjoying the festivities.  Then I realized that I was blessed to spend that time with my family...making an authentic Irish meal (NOT cornbeef and cabbage) and listening to those same friends on a mountain of CD's.  There are, of course, Irish libations involved. : - ) Now I look forward to the day as it was originally meant to be; a chance to share our faith and our heritage with others."

Boston Blackthorne played 3 nights in Western MA, centered around St Patrick's Day as well as the big parade (the nation's oldest) in Holyoke MA.We played to crowded enthusiastic fans in Northampton MA and Holyoke MA.But perhaps the best gig (and story) was the one that arose spontaneously back in the lobby of our hotel after our St Pat's evening show. The hotel lobby is most frequently empty but this night is was crowded with about 100 boisterous folks from Minnesota, visiting Massachusetts to support a Women's college Hockey team. We were approached by the unofficial spokesperson who pointed at our guitar and fiddle and asked, “Can you really play those?” I answered of course we can, and this is your lucky night!Not only has your party been invaded by musicians, we are an Irish band and this is St Patrick's Day! We proceeded to unpack our instruments and did a set of singalongs like Charlie on the MTA for the Boston connection.Halfway through the set our wives came into the lobby -my wife grumbled to Pete's wife, “This party is going to keep us up all night!”Pete's wife Maureen looked a little closer and exclaimed, “Hey that's Jim and Pete in the center of it all!”They joined the fray, we had the best gig of the year playing for this group of strangers from the Midwest, wonderful folks who doubtless went home with a great tale and the definition of the work “Craic!” JIM OCONNOR

The Center for Great Expectations (CGE), a non-profit located in Somerset, NJ, provides transformational mental health and substance use disorder treatment to women, children, men, and families impacted by trauma, abuse, and neglect. CGE is comprised of approximately 115 staff who deliver comprehensive, collaborative, and compassionate services to over 1,000 individuals/year across 7 different counties.In his role as Chief Operating Officer, Tim Cummings has the privilege of providing administrative oversight to CGE's six unique programs, in addition to managing the Finance, Human Resources, Development, Compliance, and Facilities Departments. His leadership has contributed to the implementation of an agency-wide Performance Management system that promotes staff development, the launch of a 403(b) retirement plan, upgraded software and technology tools, and a robust agency-wide communication platform. Prior to joining CGE, Tim spent 13-years with an affordable and supportive housing provider in New York City. Tim discusses how, from a young age, he was exposed to opportunities to get involved in social justice, equity, and inclusion work. By spending time in communities that were different from his own, he began to discover his power and the amount of impact he was able to make. Segment 2 In the second segment of the show, Tim discusses a program he participated in during the gap year he took after graduating from college. The program took place in an inner city Philadelphia community and its purpose was to serve the residents of that community. He lived within this community for about two years and he discovered the level of privilege he had been afforded in life. He then decided to dedicate himself to giving back to the community through social work and by engaging in everyday acts of kindness and compassion. Segment 3 In the third segment of the show, Tim discusses his professional non-profit work within CGE. He has worked with CGE for about 4 years and is incredibly passionate about the impact that has been and will be created by them. CGE primarily serves women and children who struggle with mental health issues and substance abuse disorders. They offer various programs and centers which support mothers and children as they try to break cycles of abuse and trauma. They also offer outpatient services which men are able to access. Segment 4The final segment focuses on the programs offered by CGE. They offer a supportive housing program which offers housing and counseling services to women in need. They also offer an outpatient program for both women and men. Finally, they offer a start program which offers medical and mental health care and support services within the homes of the families they serve.This enables the non-profit staff to gain a greater understanding of the living situations of the families they support. This also enables non-profit organizations to provide better services to the communities they serve.
