UNIDENTIFIED MAN THROWS CHILD IN CROCODILE PIT IN CAMBRIDGESHIRE BEFORE BEING IMMEDIATELY RELEASED BY POLICE.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Middle East: After the ceasefire document was signed in Versailles yesterday, Israeli forces conducted large-scale bombing campaigns in Lebanon. Dozens of airstrikes were reported along the southern and eastern fronts as the cities of Maifadoun, Nabatieh, and Toul were heavily targeted this morning. The number of casualties remains unknown as most of the region surrounding this cluster of towns was destroyed by the bombing. At some point during the night, Hezbollah conducted an ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) attack on an IDF tank which killed four crewmembers. This prompted an even more substantial IDF response, which continued throughout the night. By morning, several reports of a ceasefire emerged between the IDF and Hezbollah, scheduled to take place at 4:00pm local time. However, as of this report several strikes have taken place after the ceasefire, and the status of the alleged halt to the fighting remains uncertain.Analyst Comment: As the bombing in Lebanon has continued throughout this morning, limited reporting out of Switzerland suggests that the Iranian delegation has departed ahead of schedule, and peace talks have been halted. Some initial reports also circulated stating that the Strait of Hormuz had been re-closed as well, however as of this report this might have been a knee-jerk reaction that has been mitigated and merchant traffic has continued to increase throughout the Persian Gulf this afternoon.United Kingdom: This morning an attack was reported at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a tourist farm/venue in Cambridgeshire. The incident involved a 30-year-old man (who was attended by two caregivers), snatching a 3-year-old child, and throwing him into the crocodile enclosure at the small zoo section of the farm. The zoo owner's wife jumped into the enclosure and rescued the boy, while visitors detained the man who conducted the attack.Analyst Comment: The assailant had no connection with the victim, and the attack appears to be random. This case has added to the already-high levels of outrage as the suspect's name and appearance is being withheld...but he's already been released from police custody, as the police deemed him too mentally ill to even be interviewed. Instead, he was released from custody altogether. The boy who was thrown into the enclosure was bitten by a crocodile, and remains hospitalized undergoing treatment.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: If the bombing in Lebanon carries on, the peace deal has little chance of lasting the weekend. In fact, it might already be too late if the Iranians decide that the United States is not capable of constraining the Israelis in Lebanon. The White House has attempted to tame the situation by reportedly assuring the Iranians that the targeting is over, however as this reporting hit social media, the Israeli's were still hitting Lebanon. Also, reports on the timing of last night's events vary somewhat. Some reports claim that the Israeli's were only responding to the targeting of the armored column, which prompted the bombing. However, the tank that was hit was advancing (not withdrawing) and at the time it was located about 6 miles into Lebanese territory on the northwest side of the Litani River. Also, some reports claim that the bombing campaign actually began before the tank was struck by Hezbollah, but these local reports are hard to verify.In the context of the peace agreement that has found itself on rocky ground, the targeting efforts overnight were not a small engagement...this was a substantial bombing campaign that is probably the IDF's biggest push so far in Lebanon. Many locations were completely leveled and it's quite clear that the Israelis gave some cities throughout southern Lebanon a miniature version of the Gaza treatment last night. It is quite possible that this is the standard final punch below the belt after the bell, and it would have been extremely naive for either the United States or Iran to not assume that this would happen immediately upon a ceasefire agreement being signed. As a result, it's not certain as to if this will outright derail the deal; this may have been an assumption that was already baked in to what the U.S. and Iran agreed to behind closed doors. Nevertheless the main issue for the world, the Strait of Hormuz, remains the main point of leverage. If the Iranians want to press the issue by closing the Strait again, that's up to them and so far it's hard to say how they might handle the issue. Both sides can see the elephant in the room, and both sides know the difficulty in addressing it. En Côte d'Ivoire, l'élection présidentielle se tient samedi 25 octobre. Cinq candidats sont en lice, dont Alassane Ouattara, qui brigue un quatrième mandat. RFI donne la parole à chaque candidat. Ce matin, dernier entretien, avec Simone Ehivet, l'ex-épouse de Laurent Gbagbo, qui a créé son parti en août 2022, le Mouvement des générations capables (MGC). Cette figure de l'opposition met l'accent sur la souveraineté économique et sur la réconciliation nationale. Elle répond aux questions de notre correspondante à Abidjan, Bineta Diagne.  RFI : Simone Ehivet, votre principal thème de campagne porte sur la réconciliation nationale. Qu'est-ce que vous voulez faire de plus par rapport à l'administration sortante dans ce domaine ? Simone Ehivet : ce pays a vécu une crise très profonde, une grande déchirure du tissu social, et on peut dire que des choses ont été faites. Moi-même, j'ai bénéficié d'une loi d'amnistie pour sortir de prison, donc des actes ont été posés. Mais le plus grand de ce chantier-là attend encore d'être réalisé. Il faut rendre hommage à ces morts-là pour que l'esprit repose en paix. Il faut organiser le pardon au-delà de ceux qui ont perdu leurs vies, il y a ceux qui ont perdu leurs biens. Il va être nécessaire de traiter la question et de faire les dédommagements. Vous dites que rien n'a été fait. Pourtant, entre temps, il y a eu des dédommagements. Il y a eu la restitution des corps des victimes de la crise à Duekoué, à Toulépleu. On ne peut pas dire que rien n'a été fait ? Moi, je souhaiterais qu'on rende hommage aux morts. Beaucoup de personnes ont perdu leur emploi, ont perdu leur travail, ont perdu leur commerce. Mais du coup, quinze ans plus tard, qu'est-ce que vous comptez faire ? Mais quinze ans plus tard, il faut faire le point de cela. Il faut pouvoir mettre ensemble les populations pour qu'elles acceptent de pardonner, parce que tout le monde n'a pas accepté de pardonner, aujourd'hui encore. Lorsque vous avez tenu le lead au sein de la Côte d'Ivoire, vous avez mené un combat pour que le dialogue politique puisse avoir lieu, pour que la révision de la liste puisse avoir lieu, pour que la Commission électorale indépendante puisse être réformée. Toutes ces conditions sont toujours là. Qu'est-ce qui vous garantit une participation à cette élection de manière transparente ? Mais nous n'avons aucune garantie de rien du tout. Nous avons écrit trois fois au président de la République pour obtenir la convocation du dialogue. Nous sommes persuadés qu'aller à ces élections-là, telles que les choses se présentent, ça va être une participation très difficile à ces élections. Mais je dis, nous avons également convenu, ayant tiré les leçons du passé, qu'il vaut mieux encore aller à ces élections-là dans des conditions difficiles que pas du tout. C'est-à-dire que pour vous aujourd'hui, le boycott n'est pas du tout envisageable ? Non, faire du boycott aujourd'hui, c'est offrir des résultats au premier tour à Monsieur Alassane Ouattara. Mais alors du coup, si les résultats après ne vous conviennent pas, cela veut dire que vous n'aurez pas aussi la latitude de les contester ou de les critiquer. Si les choses se sont passées et que des gens ont pu observer que, la situation étant difficile, les élections ont eu lieu et que mes électeurs ont pu voter, que je n'ai pas gagné, je n'ai pas gagné. Car quand on va à des élections, on peut gagner comme on peut perdre. Alassane lui-même, il est candidat. Mais qu'est-ce qui garantit qu'il va gagner ? En lice dans cette compétition, il y a aussi Ahoua Don Mello. Pourquoi est-ce que c'était si difficile finalement d'obtenir une candidature unique entre tous les candidats, entre guillemets, issus de la gauche ivoirienne ? Il n'y a pas eu au niveau de l'opposition, ni au niveau de la gauche un débat pour une candidature unique. Mais l'objectif qui était poursuivi, c'était d'obtenir une réforme du système électoral lui-même. Et donc, il était question que chacun fasse ses propres analyses et prenne ses propres décisions. Il y a deux femmes candidates à cette élection présidentielle. Vous-même, vous avez été opposante, vous avez été première dame, vous êtes passée par la case prison, vous avez perdu votre parti, vous en avez recréé un autre. Avec du recul, quel regard vous portez sur votre trajectoire ? Moi, je continue le travail que j'ai fait depuis très longtemps, qui est de poser toutes les actions possibles pour obtenir, dans ce pays-là, la réalisation de la vision que j'ai de la Côte d'Ivoire. Ce que je souhaite pour la Côte d'Ivoire, c'est que ce soit une nation prospère, une nation souveraine, une nation forte, une nation où les hommes qui sont aguerris, qui sont capables de prendre des initiatives, de créer pour le changement. Ce travail-là, il n'est pas achevé et c'est la raison pour laquelle je suis encore dans la course. Enfin, l'espagnol CAF continue son expansion à Reichshoffen avec une enveloppe de 50 millions d'euros. Edition limitée de timbres spéciaux.Ce lundi, La Poste a édité une série de timbres représentant huit cathédrales du Grand-Est. Nació en Alsacia, el año 1002, de familia noble, descendiente de Alderico, duque de aquella región. Al ser bautizado recibió el nombre de Bruno, que cambió por el de León al ocupar la Silla de San Pedro. Tuvo una educación muy esmerada, frecuentó la acreditada escuela de Toul, destinada a la nobleza y recibió las órdenes sagradas. Promovió con energía los estudios eclesiásticos y, sobre todo, fue en todas partes el más decidido impulsor de la reforma eclesiástica. Tenía gran estima por la obra reformadora realizada por los cluniacenses y las Órdenes monásticas. Condenó la herejía de Berengario de Tours sobre la eucaristía. Fue hecho prisionero durante un año, pasado el cual volvió a Roma, donde murió el 19 de abril de 1054.
