Cybersecurity isn't just for IT workers -- for geeks -- anymore. Everyone, at every level of every organization, must make it a priority. Executives who sit on boards of directors should play a critical oversight role as companies make their cybersecurity plans, but many have little training or expertise in this area. Duke's Univerisity has put together a training program that will help fill this knowledge gap. In this episode of Debugger in 10, Duke professor David Hoffman describes the program. It combines the expertise of Duke's public policy school, computer science department, engineering school, and law school. The program faculty includes not only subject matter experts from Duke, but also leaders who have managed and responded to cybersecurity risks at the highest level of industry and government. The event takes place in on Duke's Durham, N.C. campus from June 13-15. Learn more and apply at https://execed.sanford.duke.edu/blog/marketing_page/cybersecurity-home/

Univerisity friends Rich, Adam and Jon sold smoothies from a small stall with a big sign that said: “Should we give up our jobs to make these smoothies?” Customers could cast their vote by throwing their empty cup in a "yes" or "no" bin. It resulted in the founding of Innocent Drinks. Now some 20 years later, Innocent is the leading Smoothy brand in Europe. And according to my 17 year old daughter, the Super Smoothy Invigorate is heavenly. So if I realy need to spoil her, that's what I should buy at the Supermarket. The brandname Innocent implies that not only the product is healthy, it also implies that the supply chain, manufacturing, packaging. Dr. Jerry Bromenshenk and Dr. David Firth from the Univerisity of Montana are working together on a new application for beekeepers called Bee Health Guru.  The application uses artificial intelligence (AI) to listen to the sound and based upon complex algorithms and learned history, can provide a diagnosis of the colony's health. Simply amazing. Jerry and David join Jeff & Kim on this episode to talk about the history of the technology and the ongoing research of the technology under-pinnings of the cell phone app. At the beginning of the podcast, you can hear Jeff listening to a audio clip of a 2-deep colony of bees at rest. Then suddenly, no... instantly, their tone changes. Could you tell what happened? The audio file was provided by Dr. Bromenshenk. In the recording, a colony of honey bees 'at rest' are given one (1) drop of toluene.  The communication through the hive was instantaneous. Bees communicate more than we knew and the Bee Health Guru app hopes to help us translate just what they're saying!
