Seit Jahren klettern historische Romane immer wieder auf die obersten Plätze der Bestsellerlisten. Stuart is a Kentucky native who didn't set out to be an activist. Growing up, he embraced the standard American diet until 1985, when he made a transformative shift to a 100% plant-based lifestyle. For years, Stuart quietly pursued his path while respecting others' choices. However, as he delved deeper into the statistical correlations between our dietary habits and global crises, he felt compelled to awaken people to the urgent need for change—for our health and the planet's well-being. Drawing inspiration from the iconic Matrix movie, Stuart invites everyone to choose the "red pill" and uncover the truth about our world. Song: Tefillas HaShlah Composed by: Yitzy Waldner Sung by: Yitzy Waldner & Yaakov Shwekey Inspiration by: Yitzy Waldner Erev Rosh Chodesh Sivan is a special day to daven for the spiritual success of our precious children. Written by the Shlah Hakadosh, Rav Yeshaya Halevi Ish Horowitz, over 400 years ago, this tefilla speaks of the yearning and hope of every Jewish parent, to have righteous and successful children. I reached out to composer Yitzy Waldner to talk about his personal inspiration behind the beautiful song "Tefillas HaShlah" he wrote for his daughter's wedding, and subsequently sang with Yaakov Shwekey on his "Musica" album. May we all be zocheh to raise zerah chaya v'kayama and have only nachas from our children. No Internet? No smartphone? No problem! He holds a MSc in Industrial Management and Manufacturing Engineering from ETH and previously worked at companies like EGL AG and Axpo Trading AG before starting Pexapark in 2017. With more than 30GW of renewable PPA transactions supported, Pexapark is the reference for buying, selling and managing renewable energy. What is PPA, you may ask? The acronym stands for Power Purchase Agreement, which is a contractual agreement between energy buyers and sellers. They come together and agree to buy and sell an amount of energy which is or will be generated by a renewable asset. PPAs are usually signed for a long-term period between 10-20 years. Thanks to the low cost of solar technology, solar is now one of the cheapest renewables available. That is what makes solar PPAs popular. While working as a psychologist in the Bay Area helping people with their problems, Mary Waldner discovered one of her own; at the age of 43, she was diagnosed with celiac disease. The foods she'd been eating all her life had been making her sick, so Mary came up with a solution. She decided to create a healthy gluten-free snack cracker that she could make at home, and eat in restaurants when her friends were eating bread. As it turns out, lots of people loved Mary's crackers and they encouraged her to start her own company, which Mary turned into a multi-million dollar business. This episode was produced by Kerry Thompson, with music by Ramtin Arablouei.Edited by Casey Herman, with research help from Sam Paulson. You can follow HIBT on Twitter & Instagram, and email us at hibt@id.wondery.com.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Quantum Quote: “Save our soil in the hopes that the soil might just save us.” - Woody Harrelson We all have to eat - but agriculture is something we often don't think about And, even when we do, we don't think much about how it affects our environment. But climate smart grants, carbon credits, and goals to become “net zero” have now made agriculture a hot topic in the mainstream media over recent years. Sustainable agriculture provides a fast and direct path to the eco-friendly changes we want, and climate smart farming can create more resilient crops and healthier food. But… did you know that smart farming practices can also play an important role in solving the climate crisis by taking carbon out of the air and sequestering it into the soil? There are a plethora of contributions you can make, programs you can educate yourself on, and a change of lifestyle you can invest in. Switching to a climate-smart and organic agriculture provides benefits that have the ability to positively influence numerous environmental factors - and support the farmers who bring us our daily sustenance. To be protected by Mother Earth, we must first love and take care of her through smart actions and eco-friendly changes. One of our first steps is in agriculture. Dive in and learn more about climate-smart agriculture and the power, protection, and strength it brings - not only to the environment, but to you as well. While Sara Waldner didn't grow up on a farm, she's been passionate about promoting the benefits of modern agriculture and educating others about the challenges that farmers face to feed our growing world for over a decade. Her advocacy began in high school with her involvement in FFA, the largest student-led organization in the country that prepares members for leadership and careers in the science, business, and technology of agriculture. We'd like to hear from you! Please help us understand how AWESomeEarthKind can help you achieve your clean energy goals. SEND YOUR FEEDBACK TODAY SuperNova #1. The most successful stories of farmers implementing these types of climate-smart practices on their farm often came from having a peer-to-peer connection with someone, whether that was through a different mentorship group,a program, a one-on-one connection that they already had, or attending different events and seminars that some of the soil conservation or soil health advocacy groups put on. SuperNova #2. Farmers are business people first and foremost. And they need to be able to have the flexibility to adjust and refine practices on their operation as needed throughout the transition. SuperNova #3. Rather than just focusing on soil health or carbon sequestered, it's important also realize the many additional benefits that come with these practices, like improved biodiversity and soil nutrients, and improved water retention and quality. Erosion prevention increases yields over time because of the benefits of soil health. Because our soils are more resilient, you'll be better suited to face the extreme weather events that we are all too familiar with these days. About Stuart Waldner Stuart Waldner is an activist and an author who invites readers to take the red pill as they Escape the Meatrix. Escape the Meatrix, Waldner's debut nonfiction book was written after he transitioned to a plant-based diet in 2008. His health improved, he felt better, and the more he learned about the statistical connections between our dietary choices and the worldwide climate crises we face, the more he felt an urgency to wake people up—for our health and for the planet. Waldner spent nearly two decades exploring Earth's greatest wonders and connecting with sacred sites around the globe. When he's not advocating for the health of people and our planet, he spends time playing with his dogs, cooking plant-based foods, running, and restoring his 128-year-old Victorian home. Love MEAT? Well, Stuart Waldner joins our show today to talk about moving away from eating meat products not just for health, but for wealth. Keep reading, I'll explain. Stuart wrote “Escape The Meatrix” a well-researched account on how reducing meat in our diets can make our bodies and minds healthier, in addition to the earth, atmosphere, and health of other animals, too, which benefits the entire eco-system. Stuart also talks about how investing in plant-based diets can be fiscally sound as well. His mantra, “Eat Plants, Feel Great, Save The Planet.” But this isn't just another plant-based book, it's based in science and research, in addition to HOW transition into plant foods can truly transform our health, possibly add years to our lives, and help stop the rapid decay of our climate issues. Stuart chronicles his own personal story as well, sort of a wake-up call after watching how unhealthy habits of friends and family consume their lives. Join us on #DeborahKobyltLIVE for this different take on plant-based foods, and please invite your friends, too. Happy New Year! Our guest Stuart, was born and bred in Kentucky. He mentioned that he had met Babita Shrestha, our guest from episode #141, who's a Nepalese vegan chef, back in Kentucky, years ago. This made us smile, thinking about the deep desire we share to connect with each other. Our guest today shares with us his deeply integrated sense that all beings deserve space for life. And pulls back the curtain on how, like Mr.Anderson (before he becomes Neo in the Matrix) we've been living in a constructed illusion where our food is concerned! Author and activist Stuart Waldner didn't set out to be an animal welfare or plant-based spokesman. But, after two decades of exploring Earth's greatest wonders and connecting with sacred sites around the globe, he transitioned fully to a completely vegan lifestyle in 2008. Stuart says, “Like Neo in the Matrix, the Meatrix hooked my brain and my body on what it force-fed me since birth. Since taking the red pill and becoming plant-based, I see how I was living in a world of speciesism, brainwashed by the Meatrix and hooked on its products. I believe the Meatrix held this power over me because it is a cult I was born into and never questioned.” The better he felt, not consuming animal-based products, the more he learned about the statistical connections between our dietary choices and the worldwide crises we're about to face on a global scale. He felt called to wake people up—for our health and for the planet! Our survival as a species is intimately tied to every other living creature on the planet. The choices we make around the ways we treat and consume other beings is having a devastating effect on our precious earth, and a catastrophic price will be paid by all, if we don't make some serious efforts to alter the course we're on!
Books That Make You Look Reconsider Our Meat-Eating Habits If you're a regular consumer of meat, or any animal products, do you sometimes think about the cost? Not just the price tag, but the ecological costs, as well as the medical and psychological costs? What if someone came along and told you factory farms, corporations, meat lobbyists and politicians are on a mission to lull you into compliance? What if this someone offered the red pill? That someone, now, is Stuart Waldner. In his shocking new book, Escape the Meatrix, Stuart writes of his fight against climate change, how it has exposed, among other things, the unexpected reason vegetables are more expensive than burgers. He offers a list of diseases that a plant-based lifestyle can slow, prevent, or even cure, and illustrates the ways in which America's declining health is tied directly to corporate profits. After successfully transitioning to a plant-based diet himself in 2008, and feeling much better physically, Stuart set out on a path of activism and investigation, uncovering the statistical connections between our dietary choices and our current global crises. Escape the Meatrix is a critical wake-up call for those willing to face the daunting, but not insuperable, facts. Find out more on Books That Make You. An diesem warmen, mehrheitlich feuerwerkfreien 1. Swedish table tennis player Jan-Ove Waldner is a living legend in his own country -- and in China. Known as the “Mozart of Table Tennis”, Jan won every major title in a sport traditionally dominated by the Chinese, including a career-defining win at the Olympic games in 1992 - where he became the first and only table-tennis gold medallist from a non-Asian country. At one point, Waldner was said to be more widely recognised in China than President Bill Clinton. He talks to Ashley Byrne about a career that spanned three decades. The programme is a Made-in-Manchester Production. PHOTO: Jan-Ove Waldner in action in 2004 (Getty Images)

AABP Executive Director Dr. Fred Gingrich is joined by Dr. Elizabeth Homerosky to discuss her research project on identifying calves at risk for not consuming colostrum within 4 hours of birth with the development of the Beef Calf Vigor Assessment (BCVA). Homerosky is the 2021 recipient of the AABP James A. Jarrett Award for Young Leaders and a partner at Veterinary Agri-Health Services in Alberta. Find out about their practice and student opportunities at this link. Homerosky discusses the challenges of identifying calves at risk in beef production systems, especially cattle on open range. A study from Waldner and Rosengren of the University of Saskatchewan, suggests that for optimal passive transfer, calves need 24 g/L of serum IgG and approximately 1/3 of beef calves do not achieve this optimal level of IgG. It can be difficult to assess passive transfer in beef calves versus dairy calves due to the differences in management systems. Homerosky explains that concentration of immunoglobulins in beef cattle is not considered a major risk factor, however, timing of colostrum consumption is critical for passive transfer in beef calves since we rely on the maternal-neonatal bond to allow for nursing within 4-hours. The BCVA is a practical and producer friendly tool that clients can use to identify at-risk calves. The APGAR scoring system used in human neonates has not been found to have a high association with outcomes of interest. In her study, Homerosky identified that the suckle reflex was highly associated with disturbances in blood gas abnormalities and failure of passive transfer. Adding calving ease into the algorithm and applying the BCVA to all calvings will improve the ability to identify at-risk calves. Veterinarians are encouraged to work with their beef producers to identify at-risk calves using the BCVA and providing protocols for interventions when indicated. Relevant publications: Homerosky, E.
