Episode 47 - From Profit to Purpose    This episode was a global endeavour with Terri Soller dialling in from Sydney and Gaby Rajak and I in SA. Both guests are seasoned Organisational Development (OD) Practioners with whom we are currently piloting a new workshop for Coaches and OD Practioners. We discuss the changing role of the OD Practioner in the new world of work and why we can never go back to the pre-pandemic organisational structure.   Disruption caused by Covid-19 has provided valuable opportunities for learning and leadership. But how do we make sure it is seen by organisations that way? Being visible in a remote workplace can be tricky, or has it even changed? We've shared what we're hearing from our clients and coachees, and one theme coming out strongly is how businesses seem to have moved from profit to purpose with covid amplifying what already existed in our teams and organisations. Using deep curiosity to make sense of the change uncovers that we are all more resourceful than we know. The conversation was both reflective and forward looking, leaving me enthused and full of hope!       Helpful Resources:   More about our guests:   https://au.linkedin.com/in/terri-soller-782352a   https://www.linkedin.com/in/gaby-rajak-waksman-41a14311/   More about concepts mentioned:     https://www.amazon.com/Practice-Adaptive-Leadership-Changing-Organization-ebook/dp/B004OC071W   https://www.coaching-online.org/somatic-coaching/   https://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newPPM_94.htm   Finally, if you would like to know more about the new OD workshop send a mail to Colleen@omnicor.co.za to hear how your OD team can benefit.     Please check out our website www.omnicor.co.za   Thank you for your support

If you have never heard about the concept you are in for a treat! Ruth Verhey is a clinical psychologist and psychotherapist with a trauma treatment focus who trained in Germany, has lived in Colombia and has been working in Zimbabwe since 2004.She has been working with Friendship Bench (FB) for 13 years co-developing the program and material, designed the group support component of FB and is researching PTSD in people living with HIV. She holds a PhD from Stellenbosch University, South Africa. She is an EMDR consultant and runs a private practice.  “The mission of the Friendship Bench is to create safe spaces and a sense of belonging in communities, to enhance mental wellbeing and improve people's' quality of life. Guided by our values of empathy and connection, and anchored in over a decade of rigorous research (including a RCT published in the Journal of American Medical Association, JAMA) we have re-imagined the delivery of evidence-based mental healthcare. The Friendship Bench clinical team trains community health workers (also known as lay health workers) to provide basic Cognitive Behavioural Therapy with an emphasis on Problem Solving Therapy, activity scheduling and peer led group support. This task shifting approach means we can deliver an effective, affordable, and sustainable solution to bridge the mental health treatment gap at a primary care level.  We deliver the talk therapy intervention to people with mild to moderate level common mental health disorders, such as anxiety and depression, known locally as ‘kufungisisa'- thinking too much. When people visit the Friendship Bench they are screened with a locally validated tool called the Shona Symptom Questionnaire (SSQ-14). If a person scores above the cut-off point, they are suggested to stay and receive the one-on-one problem solving therapy. In practical terms, participants are taught a structured approach to identifying problems and find workable solutions”. www.friendshipbenchzimbabwe.org       Helpful Resources:   https://zw.linkedin.com/in/dr-ruth-verhey-a6013a69   https://depts.washington.edu/edgh/zw/hit/web/project-resources/shona_symptom_questionnaire.pdf   Twitter: @friendshipbench Facebook: @friendshipbenchzimbabwe Instagram: @friendship_bench_zimbabwe   omnicor.co.za

Episode 28   My Father’s Coat.   In this episode we have a double treat in store not only do we have our multitalented guest Michael Charton, but Muitheri Wahome long-time friend of Omnicor, polymath compliments the conversation perfectly as our co-host Attending “My father’s coat” was a profound experience for me, I left both speechless and meaningfully engaged with my history, I am planning to take my children and highly recommend his show- especially South Africans. Michael is a South African hero, living his purpose with humility and commitment.     Michael Charton completed his articles and left to work in the US in mergers and acquisitions before returning to South Africa. He then worked as a Financial Director in the media and advertising industry. It was here that his evolution from accountant to storyteller was crystalized. He resigned from his job as a financial director, in order to realise a decade-old idea: To transform the complex history of South Africa through the medium of a story: MY FATHER’S COAT. In the process he founded INHERIT SOUTH AFRICA, to reveal untold stories from the past for edutainment, understanding, and nation-building. Michael literally climbs into the shoes of five protagonists (Mzilikazi, Kruger, Rhodes, Smuts, and Mandela) and tells their respective, interlinked stories over a period of 200 years. The genius of his story is how – over a period of 90 compelling minutes – he introduces each of these characters in a way that lures you under their spell as he seemingly embraces their beliefs and biases. www.InheritSouthAfrica.com       Our co-host Muitheri is a financial services professional with a deep interest in the history and lore of the investment industry in South (Southern) African industry. Her particular interest is in tracking the arc of history in order to be able to help facilitate the maturation of this transforming industry, by being informed by the past.  If you enjoyed this episode please subscribe to the podcast and share your comments are very important to us check out our website www.omnicor.co.za for our blog and previous episodes.

Welcome to episode 11 of Radio Omnicor – our podcast about the science of business! Cathy Farlam Ashton is in studio with Colleen McLintock to give you a behind-the-scenes look at competencies. We use them daily across the HR value chain and they are to a large extent the way our products intersect with our clients. But where will they go in the next 5 years, and how did competencies get so widely adopted? The best qualified person we can think of to help unpack this is Cathy, one of the founding partners of Omnicor and current partner at Multiplex. Cathy is well known in the industry for being a treasure trove of insight and knowledge across many HR disciplines, all gained through working at the rock face for more than 20 years. Her approach is insightful and based on very real work experience – and she really is a wizard when it comes to writing job profiles!
