The Therapeutic Perspective podcast is an incredibly valuable resource for mental health professionals, students, parents, and teachers alike. As a listener, I greatly appreciate the opportunity to gain insights from diverse perspectives and approaches in providing mental health treatment. This podcast has been instrumental in expanding my knowledge and understanding of various therapeutic techniques and strategies.
One of the best aspects of this podcast is the range of guests who share their expertise and experiences. The hosts do an excellent job of bringing in professionals from various disciplines within the mental health field. This diversity allows for a comprehensive exploration of different therapeutic modalities and approaches. Whether it's cognitive-behavioral therapy, psychodynamic therapy, or mindfulness-based interventions, there is something for everyone in every episode. The guests also provide practical advice and tips that are applicable to real-life practice, making it a valuable resource for mental health professionals at all stages of their careers.
Another standout feature of this podcast is its accessibility to both professionals and laypeople. While the content may be targeted towards mental health professionals, it is presented in such a way that anyone with an interest in mental health can benefit from it. This makes it a particularly useful tool for parents and teachers who may encounter individuals struggling with mental health issues. The podcast episodes offer valuable insights into understanding others' experiences and provide guidance on how to support them effectively.
As much as I find The Therapeutic Perspective podcast informative and engaging, one potential downside is that there can be some repetition across episodes. Certain topics or concepts may be revisited multiple times throughout the series. While this can serve as a helpful reinforcement for core principles, it could feel repetitive for listeners looking for more variety in subject matter.
Overall, The Therapeutic Perspective podcast truly stands out as an invaluable resource for mental health professionals seeking real-life knowledge and advice. Its ability to cater to a wide range of audiences makes it accessible to both professionals and individuals who have little background in psychology or counseling. I eagerly anticipate each new episode and look forward to continuing my journey of learning and growth through this exceptional podcast.

In this episode, I provide an in depth discussion of how I target market via social media, including selecting platforms, hashtags, and the best times to post. I also share my unique way of target marketing in the community. It may sound strange, but a hobby of mine is reading about business growth strategies. Ever since I started my practice, I scheduled time to learn about marketing, systems, organization, and business planning and growth. It has become a passion of mine, and while I am not a coach, and I don't have a practice growth course to sell, I do love sharing what I know. As a former teacher, this is just part of who I am, and while I have been told not to give so much away for free, I truly enjoy learning from others, sharing what I've learned, and seeing therapists succeed. We deserve to make a good living too, and we can all success together. I'm happy to do my part and share what I've learned with you. My goal for this series is to share from one to clinician to another, the strategies and skills that I have learned through running my practice, my continuing education business, coordinating workshops with hundreds of attendees, building a community, and owning a podcast. I hope you find it helpful, and I'm glad you're here. We humans all face loss. When a child dies, however, it is a particularly brutal, life-altering loss. As caring bystanders, we may not know how to respond, help, or approach those who are grieving. In this episode, we are going to be talking about cults. Cults have made headlines around the world for many years and continue to fascinate us in documentaries and popular podcasts. Most recently you will likely recall the organization known as NXIVM is a cult organization that gained attention for its Hollywood famous members. Allison Mack from the show Smallville—she was a member of NXIVM led by Keith Ranieri which allured members by asserting themselves as a professional development program and then subsequently blackmailed and branded its members and used them as sex slaves. The stories behind these cult origins of leaders and their demise are fascinating and so disturbing. We as therapists need to know some of the red flags behind these cults so that we can better serve our clients if we find that they are being manipulated into an organization that potentially can turn abusive. We will also dive into how to help those who are in a cults find their way out and how to support family members whose loves ones are trapped in. To help us on this topic I have the author of the book CULTS Inside OUT Rick Alan Ross.

As we are recording this show in December of 2021, we are during what is being called the Great Resignation. The Great Resignation is a mass exodus of individuals leaving their jobs in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. In August 2021 U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that 4.3 million Americans quit their jobs. It is obvious that with this staggering statistic, in our offices mental health clinicians are inevitably seeing this contemplation of leaving a job discussed in session. I reached out to our guest because I think we could all use a deeper dive into career counseling so that we can effectively treat those in need. Career Counseling is one of the core competencies that is needed to be a licensed mental health clinician. So many of us have a basic understanding of the importance of career and its effect on our client's mental state and assessments that can be used for career exploration. But I think for those of us who aren't specialized in career counseling, we need to lean into our skill set a bit more, to help us I have Dr. Sharon Givens, president of the National Career Development Association (NCDA). She comes to us with a tremendous amount of experience, and I am so honored that she agreed to come on the show. Sharon has an undergraduate degree in social work with a minor in psychology. In this episode we discuss the Influence of Diet Culture and Weight Stigma on Mental Health. When we reflect on our culture's obsession with diets, I think all of us have at least one or more diet trends that quickly come to mind. For me it's the Adkins diet, the cabbage soup diet, the bone broth diet, weight watchers. All of those reflect a culture that potentially has a way of making us feel guilty for eating certain things or for not exercising a certain amount. While some may have found these tactics effective, we need to explore the impact that this could have on an individual's psych, and how to create a body-positive environment within your counseling sessions. Today, I am so excited to introduce you to our expert Amber Rice. is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, facilitator, educator, speaker, writer, and activist. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, also known as CBT, is one of the most effective forms of therapy for children with anxiety. There's a mountain of research behind it to prove that it helps kids with a variety of anxiety-related problems, from tantrums and acting-out behavior to worrying and sleep difficulties. Although it's helpful for all ages, studies show it's especially effective for kids in the 11-13 age range. In fact, studies have shown Research shows that 70-80% of kids respond well to CBT, and they often see lasting results from short-term therapy. As helpful as CBT is, it's also full of intimidating-sounding therapy jargon. Sharon is a Registered Clinical Counsellor from West Vancouver , British Columbia with over 22 years of experience in counselling and education. Today we are going to touch on a word. A word that is creeping into the psychological world that actually has an interesting history as well as a clinical context. You've likely heard it in session with clients, on social media, in memes, in casual conversation and I actually think there is a song out about it called “Gas Lighter” by the chicks. But first I think we need to talk about what the word means. Gaslighting is the act of an individual intentionally triggering another by means of making them feel incapable or out-of-control. In this show, we are going to talk about gaslighting in the context of psychological abuse. Our objective is to educate listeners on how to identify the different types of gaslighting seen in emotionally abusive relationships. We will also identify therapeutic approaches that are most effective in helping individuals identify unhealthy relationship patterns and ways to help individuals cope with the after effects of a traumatic relationship. We will also look at long-term effects of emotional abuse and resources available to victims. According to the National Domestic Violence Hotline, gaslighting develops over time and typically goes undetected. The National Domestic Violence Hotline identifies 6 different types. Countering, Withholding, Trivializing, Denial, Diverting, and Stereotyping. We will dive into these various ways in which a perpetrator uses them to cause emotional harm to an individual with our specialist today!
