A director's cut of the film offered a new perspective on the project with 45 minutes worth of scenes restored that was much more well-received by fans and critics alike. Join us as we debate the merits of this Crusades epic, its performances, its message, and whether time has been kinder to this ambitious, flawed, but ultimately fascinating film. It was the heyday of The Ricky Gervais Podcast with Ricky, Stephen Merchant, and Karl Pilkington. The term “podcast” had only just been coined by a Guardian columnist the year before. Born out of the Beige Brigade fan movement formed in 1999, the BYC is now comfortably New Zealand’s longest-running podcast series, sports or otherwise. In honor of Batman Begins (2005) turning 20, we're releasing the classic Bald Move coverage on the film. Special thanks to Ethan and Allison for commissioning Batman Begins, the first in the Nolanverse Batman trilogy (you can see our podcast on Batman: The Dark Knight here).  This is a fantastic comic book movie that also happens to be a fantastic film in it's own right.  We love the fusion of gritty realism with the strong emotional core and exploration of Bruce Wayne and his struggle to walk the narrow path between justice and vengeance.  Excellent casting, excellent performances, and while the third act perhaps leaves something to be desired in light of a decade of super hero movies continually trying to outdo themselves in terms of spectacle, the movie holds up like a champ and is an undeniable part of what makes the sequel work so superbly. In the small, midwestern city of South Bend, Indiana, for members of the LGBTQ+ community, having a space for themselves is life changing. And for twenty years, people here have had that space.  Today, it's called the LGBTQ Center. As the Center approached its twentieth anniversary, Dr. Jamie Wagman and students from Saint Mary's College students preserved the history of the Center by conducting oral histories of fourteen people who were foundational to the Center's evolution.  For the Center's anniversary gala in 2025, Dr. Wagman and student Phoenix McClellan pulled clips and organized them into this presentation.  Featuring the voices of some of the many people whose time and dedication have shaped the LGBTQ Center throughout its two decades, including Rhonda Redman, Hank Mascotte, Phillip Schatz, Meghan Buell, Eli Williams, Drew Gardner, Nancy Mascotte, H.R. Jung, Michael McMillion, Krista Cox, Angela Hankins, Kathryn Kirk, J.D. Schock, Jamie Morgan, Derek McDowell, and Rhiannon Carlson. This episode was produced by Dr. Jamie Wagman and Phoenix McClellan from Saint Mary's College, by Jon Watson and Caleb Matz from the Ernestine M.
