We had the pleasure of interviewing Not3s over Zoom video!Eschewing an academic career in favour of music, Hackney, East London born and bred rapper Not3s put all his time and effort into developing his career, rising from online obscurity to being signed by a major label in a relatively short time. Drawing inspiration not only from his underground grime scene, but also his Nigerian heritage, Nots helped push the sound of Afro-basement to a new level with the release of ‘Addison Lee' in 2017.Racking up a huge amount of online views, it was picked up by Relentless Records (Professor Green, Nadia Rose) which then re-released the song as Not3s' debut single a short while after. Since then, the sky has been the limit for Not3s, becoming one of the most listened Afropop artists in the world. His unique combination of basement pop with his Nigerian background brings a modernised and highly rhythmic and vibrant exploration of music that appeals to the masses, bringing Not3s countless successes along the way including FIFA and Love Island soundtracks, extensive Radio 1 and Capital FM support, as well as nationwide press coverage with CLASH Magazine and much, much more.Three albums and multiple releases later, Not3s begins 2023 with a brand new 3-track EP ‘Kiss Don't Tell' with lead single ‘Naked' exemplifying his sonic direction for the year ahead. Mixed & Mastered by Patrick "Wave" Carinci, a multi-platinum award winning engineer breaking into the UK market from Italy, he has immediately grasped everything Not3s is about whilst adding his prominent signature sound to ‘Naked', resulting in a highly captivating and modernized pop-infused track. His unique style and flow comes to the fore in ‘Naked', as he aims to share Valentine's love to the soul and ears of those who may be in need of a special someone this month. It expresses relatable emotions, thoughts and also gives a hint to the sonically genius and signature touch he has in store this year before releasing a tsunami of chart-toppers.In the second single off the EP, Not3s once again delivers in ‘Trip To Paris', a love medley that showcases his vocal dexterity and why he has been such a fan favourite in the UK and beyond over the past 5 years and beyond. The song lends itself to the genres previously aforementioned whilst also venturing into a new branch of sonics, adding to the excitement and anticipation behind this release and the EP as a whole. Not3s is taking 2023 by storm, and ‘Kiss Don't Tell' will surely continue his limitless rise to the very top.We want to hear from you! COLORADO EV INCENTIVES "Excel Energy's new roster of electric vehicle rebates are winning praise from environmental groups, with Colorado's dominant utility expanding incentives to include used vehicles, speeding up the all-important charging network and working with landlords to install apartment chargers." "Xcel will credit $50 a year on your bill if you agree to do most of your charging during off-peak times they have set aside. They say this allows them to plan demands on the power grid, and also allows you to use more renewable energy in the evening, instead of peak power that may be drawing on coal-fired power plants. If you need to charge at home outside your chosen time, you can override the system." “Used was a big win for us,” said Xcel electric vehicle program director Alisa Sobczak, who was showcasing Xcel's new incentives at a vehicle and charging station showcase set up for last weekend's Denver Auto Show.  “For instance, in the Denver Metro area, a family of four with household income under $85,000 qualifies,” for the rebates, Sobczak said. “We tried to make as many people eligible as possible, because we want everybody to have the opportunity to drive electric. So we've got $5,500 off a new EV purchase or lease, and $3,000 off of used." "The Xcel-offered rebates for new or used EV purchases and leases are income-qualified on a sliding scale, to target the greatest amount of help to those with the least resources for a big purchase. The price tag for the car can't go over $50,000, eliminating many models of Tesla or the high-end pickup trucks arriving this year." https://coloradosun.com/2021/09/21/new-xcel-electric-vehicle-charging-rebates CONSUMER REPORTS HATE TESLA'S YOKE "Testers at Consumer Reports recently got their hands on the Tesla Model S steering yoke, and first impressions aren't good. The publication, which purchases all of its test vehicles, recently received a new Model S equipped with the yoke which, in addition to its unusual shape, replaces conventional controls for the turn signals, windshield wipers, and horn with touch-sensitive buttons." writes Green Car Reports: "Over the course of a week, ten Consumer Reports testers reported numerous issues with the yolk. It slipped out of drivers' hands, doesn't allow for hand-over-hand shuffling when maneuvering in tight spaces, and drivers had trouble figuring out which button to press to activate the turn signals." Jake Fisher, senior director of Consumer Reports' Auto Test Center: "Swerving to avoid road debris or a stopped vehicle may be more difficult. I am concerned if I would be able to control the vehicle well in an emergency situation." https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1133605_tesla-model-s-steering-yoke-is-a-pain-and-possible-safety-concern-says-consumer-reports 2022 BMW I3: ELECTRIC 3 SERIES SPIED "The 2022 BMW i3 has been caught by an amateur photographer in China. Images have been posted to website Sohu showing the first fully-electric 3 Series, with the new BMW expected to slot in below the i4 – but believed to instead share a similar powertrain to the iX3 SUV." says Whichcar.com.au: "Rumours suggest the new model will offer an entry-level variant initially – possibly called the i3 eDrive30 – with a single electric motor sending 210kW and 400Nm to the rear wheels. it's more likely the i3 shares the larger 84kWh battery pack with its i4 sibling, meaning the sedan should easily reach 600km of driving range on a single charge" https://www.whichcar.com.au/news/2022-bmw-i3-electric-3-series-spied ELECTRAMECCANICA TO BEGIN CUSTOMER DELIVERIES "ElectraMeccanica Vehicles will begin customer deliveries of its single-occupant, three-wheeled, electric vehicle, the SOLO.  The company will officially begin delivering keys to customers at a special launch event scheduled for 4 October in Los Angeles with a select group of early reservation holders along with the company's first fleet owners." reports Green Car Congress: "The SOLO is a purpose-built, three-wheeled, all-electric solution for the urban environment. Engineered for a single occupant.  The SOLO features front and rear crumple zones, side impact protection, roll bar, torque-limiting control, as well as power steering, power brakes, air conditioning and a Bluetooth entertainment system. This is one step closer to the all-electric SUV hitting the roads in Australia. With SUVs representing the largest vehicle category for new car sales, the Model Y is expected to easily outsell the sedan equivalent (Model 3) that has proven to be Australia's favourite EV." says TechAU: "By way of battery capacity, the data is provided in Ah for each models. To get to the size of the pack we need to multiply this by the voltage." In a Thursday filing, customers' attorneys wrote, “Tesla informed counsel for Plaintiffs that Tesla had recently launched a program for customers who signed Solar Roof contracts before the April 2021 price changes to return those customers to their original pricing (if they were subject to a price increase in April 2021).”" writes CNBC.com: "Filings in three separate lawsuits alleged that Tesla solar customers had already signed contracts with Elon Musk's electric vehicle and renewable energy venture, and even prepared to have solar photovoltaics installed at their homes, when they were surprised by sudden price hikes that required additional payments to move ahead with their installations. The price hikes were not trivial. For example, plaintiff Matthew Amans' solar roof price shot up from around $72,000 per his original contract to around $146,000," https://www.cnbc.com/2021/09/17/tesla-to-reverse-solar-price-hike-for-some-customers-legal-filing.html LARGE TAXI COMPANY GOES ELECTRIC "Today, we're announcing that our passenger car fleet will become fully electric by 2023, two years ahead of any other large PHV operator in London, and an investment of £160 million We begin that journey with a partnership with Volkswagen and the roll out of their ID.4s" say Addison Lee on a blog post: "– This will eventually mean 20 000 zero emissions journeys each day in London. In fact, our journey towards becoming fully electric has already started – following our purchase of leading black taxi platform ComCab earlier this year, we already have over 650 zero-emission taxis on our fleet. As well as helping the capital's environment, we know our new electric fleet and fund will be popular with drivers and business customers. In a recent survey 86% of drivers said they would be keen to shift to an electric vehicle this year and 82% of drivers considered improving the environment as the most significant benefit of shifting to EV. Show #479   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 22nd May 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   TESLA’S NEW CLIMATE OPTION, THE ‘PARTY MODE’ IS DETECTED "It has almost been a year since Tesla CEO Elon Musk teased a new Keep Climate On feature specially designed for party animals and campers — now a Tesla hacker who goes by the name of ‘green’ just released a screenshot showing the new ‘Party Mode’ button added to the climate options." report xautoworld.com today: "Bjørn Nyland tested the ‘Keep Climate On’ option in extreme winter temperatures of -15°C/5°F and was able to sleep inside his Tesla Model X. However, the ‘Keep Climate On’ option turns off the car and most of its functions except for the heating or cooling functionality but in ‘Party Mode’ it seems like while the car is parked the center touchscreen and ambient lighting will keep working for the party animals or campers. According to Elon Musk’s statement above, the power outlets/USB ports will also keep working until the Party Mode is On, like the Dog Mode climate feature the Party will roll on until the battery reaches a min threshold of 20%."   https://www.xautoworld.com/tesla/party-mode-coming-soon/   LEONARDO DICAPRIO-PRODUCED DOCUMENTARY ‘AND WE GO GREEN’ "“And We Go Green,” a new documentary about electric street racing, will have its world debut at this year’s Cannes Film Festival, Variety has learned." writes Brett Lang for Variety.com: "The behind-the-scenes vérité look at the ABB FIA Formula E Championship chronicles how the groundbreaking electric car racing series has matured from upstart championship to the world’s fastest-growing sport in four short years. In addition to offering compelling racing footage “And We Go Green” also dovetails with DiCaprio’s interest in combating global warming and air pollution. “And We Go Green” will screen [tomorrow] at Cannes. In addition to the filmmakers and DiCaprio, guests at the screening will include Formula E founder and CEO Alejandro Agag, former Formula E driver Nelson Piquet Jr., Formula E reigning champion Jean-Eric Vergne, Formula E drivers Sam Bird, Lucas di Grassi and André Lotterer."   https://variety.com/2019/film/markets-festivals/leonardo-dicaprio-electric-car-documentary-and-we-go-green-1203218683/   IRISH ELECTRIFI SIGNS €40M DEAL TO BUILD ELECTRIC JAGUAR E-TYPES Electrifi, the Wicklow-based company that made quite a splash last month by revealing it had converted a classic Ferrari 308 to electric power, has announced a deal to build a series of electric Jaguar E-Types." reports Irish Times: "The cars will keep their original structure, but the 3.8 and 4.2-litre ‘XK’ straight-six engine, and its four-speed Moss gearbox, will be removed. The battery pack and electric motor slot into the space vacated by the old oily bits, so in theory it will be simple to restore the car to petrol power if you ever want to bring it back to its original status. Power is expected to be in the 450hp range, giving the car the ability to sprint to 100km/h in around four seconds, and on to a top speed north of 280km/h. No figure for one-charge range has yet been given." "Jaguar itself, which has its own battery E-Type plans. The electric E-Type, or E-Type Zero to give it its proper name, has already made a name for itself, thanks to a cameo role in the most recent royal wedding."   https://www.irishtimes.com/life-and-style/motors/irish-electrifi-signs-40m-deal-to-build-electric-jaguar-e-types-1.3898795   LAND ROVER TESTING HYBRID 2020 DEFENDER "Jaguar Land Rover is testing a hybrid-electric version of its upcoming 2020 Defender SUV. Spy photographers caught a prototype on public roads outside of the company’s research and development center in Gaydon, England. A look into the vehicle’s registration records confirmed it uses a hybrid powertrain." according to Trucks.com: "Land Rover will debut its reborn Defender later this year. After a 22-year hiatus the SUV will be available in the U.S. market as a modernized successor to the rugged original. Among the possible changes is adoption of alternative powertrains such as a hybrid-electric unit. Jaguar Land Rover offers a mild-hybrid Evoque, plug-in hybrid versions of the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport and the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace. The electrified Defender could use a hybrid powertrain that regenerates from braking rather than an external charging station."   https://www.trucks.com/2019/05/20/spy-shots-land-rover-testing-hybrid-2020-defender/   FORD AXES 10PC OF WORKFORCE AS IT RESTRUCTURES FOR ELECTRIC CARS "Ford Motor Co. F, -0.39% is planning to eliminate 7,000 salaried jobs around the world by the end of August as part of its Smart Redesign program, according to an email sent to employees that was published by Automotive News." says Market Watch. Whilst The Guardian says: "The cuts are expected to save Ford $600m (£471m) a year, helping it improve its profit margins, as carmakers manage weak global demand and ready themselves for a period of upheaval caused by a shift to electric vehicles."   https://www.marketwatch.com/story/ford-to-eliminate-7000-jobs-or-10-of-workforce-by-end-august-2019-05-20   https://www.theguardian.com/business/2019/may/20/ford-motor-company-cut-7000-jobs-500-uk   BHP RECHARGES ITS ELECTRIC VEHICLE TAKE-UP FORECASTS "BHP has lifted its forecasts for the adoption of electric vehicles around the world, a phenomenon that will have substantial ramifications for the world's biggest miner. It now estimates at least 132 million EVs will be on the world's roads in 2035, and at least 561 million in the middle of the century. These numbers are its "low-case" forecasts, and it also suggested take-up could be higher." says Sydney Morning Herald: "The miner is watching the developing EV market closely, given its activities around the world. It has significant copper and nickel operations - two commodities that are essential to EV batteries. It also has significant oil operations and has said it sees continued demand for the commodity. The company signalled its optimism in the growth of EVs last week, when it confirmed it would retain its Nickel West business, with chief executive Andrew Mackenzie citing the potential growth in the business due to "the expected growth in battery markets"."   https://www.smh.com.au/business/companies/bhp-recharges-its-electric-vehicle-take-up-forecasts-20190521-p51pix.html   HOW DOES A 2012 TESLA MODEL S STACK UP AGAINST A 2019 AUDI E-TRON? "Should you skip these newfangled EVs and get a used Tesla instead?" is the question asked by InsideEVs today: "the e-tron is the culmination of over four years of development, and represents one of the most expensive projects in the automaker’s history. Nonetheless, its battery specs don’t rival those of the cars coming out of Fremont. In absolute terms, the brand-new e-tron’s range is just below that of the oldest Model S. When you look at miles of range per kWh of battery size, the comparison is even more lopsided. In 2012, the EPA range for the Model S with a 60 kWh battery pack was 208 miles. The 2019 e-tron delivers 204 miles with a 95 kWh (83.6 kWh useable) pack. A seven-year-old Model S with a battery pack of similar size (85 kWh) offers a range of 265 miles. Meanwhile, Model X gets 250 miles from a 75 kWh battery pack, and the Model 3 Standard Range Plus gets 240 miles from a 55 kWh pack."   https://insideevs.com/reviews/350645/2012-tesla-model-s-vs-audi-etron/   NEXT-GEN BMW I8 COULD GO FULLY ELECTRIC "The BMW i8 is a stylish, futuristic-looking plug-in hybrid, but a new report is suggesting the second-generation model could go fully electric. While the current car has a turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder internal combustion engine, an electric motor and an 11.6 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, Autocar reports that BMW executives are leaning towards making the its successor an all-electric." according to CarScoops: "sources told the publication the switch to an electric powertrain would provide a “tangible link” to the company’s effort in Formula E. This is understandable and it would likely help to serve as a halo model for the company’s upcoming slate of electric vehicles."   https://www.carscoops.com/2019/05/next-gen-bmw-i8-could-go-fully-electric-challenge-tesla-roadster   BMW UPDATES ITS PLUG-IN HYBRID LINEUP: MORE ELECTRIC RANGE "BMW announced a major refresh of its lineup, including plug-in hybrid versions of several models, scheduled for summer 2019. In effect, all PHEVs will be equipped with new, higher energy dense batteries for longer all-electric range, among other improvements." reports InsideEVs: "The upgraded versions of the BMW PHEVs come just in time to not harm severely the plug-in sales results, which didn't bring any growth for the past few months. The list of updated plug-ins (production form July/August 2019) includes: BMW 330e iPerformance BMW 530e iPerformance BMW 530e xDrive iPerformance BMW X5 xDrive45e iPerformance BMW 225xe Active Tourer iPerformance BMW 745e iPerformance (in three versions: BMW 745e, BMW 745Le, BMW 745Le xDrive) is already in production"   https://insideevs.com/news/350511/bmw-updates-plugin-hybrid-lineup-summer/   FIRST ALL-ELECTRIC MINICABS TO HIT LONDON IN FIGHT FOR CLEANER AIR "Addison Lee has unveiled the capital’s first all-electric minicab in a boost for efforts to tackle toxic fumes. The firm is to trial the £70,000 Audi e-tron for six months to assess the practicality of a vehicle that has a 250-mile range before needing to be recharged." says Evening Standard newspaper: "Addison Lee will test five electric Audis on its premium Tristar chauffeur service as part of its commitment to moving towards a fleet with zero-emissions capability."   https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/first-allelectric-minicabs-to-hit-london-in-fight-for-cleaner-air-a4147536.html   COMMUNITY And thanks to MYEV.com they’ve set us another Question Of The Week. However, it is clear that MyHeritage intends to be a contender, and they are quickly ramping up their efforts to gain market share–and your confidence. MyHeritage began 2018 by making a much needed change to their DNA matching algorithm, which had some errors in it. They were able to adjust it, and now it is humming right along, telling our second cousins from our fourth. Another development, launched in February, is the addition of a Chromosome Browser. THE NEW MYHERITAGE DNA CHROMSOME BROWSER  Much like you would browse the library shelves for the perfect book, or browse through the sale rack for a great bargain, you can use a Chromosome Browser to look through your chromosomes for the pieces of DNA you share with your genetic cousins. Chromosome Browsers can be everything from a fun way to review your genetic genealogy results, to a tool to assist in determining how you are related to someone else. Let's go over three tips to help you make use of this new tool. NAVIGATING TO THE CHROMOSOME BROWSER There are actually two different kinds of Chromosome Browsers in MyHeritage: one to view only the segments you share with one match (the One-to-One Browser), and a browser where you can see the segments shared with multiple matches (the One-to-Many Browser). To get to the One-to-One Browser, head over to your match page and find a cousin for whom you would like to see your shared DNA segments. Click on Review DNA Match, then scroll down past all the individual match information, past the Shared Matches and Shared Ethnicities until you see the Chromosome Browser. USING THE ONE-TO-MANY CHROMOSOME BROWSER To find the One-to-Many Chromosome Browser, you can use the main DNA navigation menu at the top of the MyHeritage homepage. Click on DNA, then on Chromosome Browser, as shown below. In the One-to-Many Chromosome Browser you can compare yourself, or any account you manage, to anyone else in your match page. To choose a match to evaluate, just click on their name and they will be added to the queue at the top, as shown here. Clicking on Compare will then allow you to see the actual segments you share with each person: In this One-To-Many view, each individual match gets their own line for each chromosome. Since we have added 7 people to the Chromosome Browser, there are seven lines next to each chromosome number. Each match not only gets their own line, but also their own color. So you can easily match up the lines on the chromosome to the match that shares that piece of DNA with you. For the majority of people the majority of the time, these Chromosome Browsers are just another fun way to visualize the connection you have with your DNA match. In the end, it doesn't matter where you are sharing on the chromosome, just how much DNA you are sharing. You can obtain that information from your main match page and never look at this Chromosome Browser image, and still make fantastic genetic genealogy discoveries. THE TRIANGULATION TOOL Another feature of the Chromosome Browser on MyHeritage is the Triangulation tool. To understand how this works, you first need to understand that you actually have two copies of each chromosome. Two copies of chromosome 1, two copies of chromosome 2, etc. One copy is from mom, and the other from dad. However, in the Chromosome Browser image, you see only one line for yourself (in grey). Therefore, when you see someone matching you on chromosome 14, for example, you don't know if that person is matching you on the chromosome 14 you got from your mom, or the chromosome 14 you got from your dad. However, this is what the Triangulation tool does for us. It tells us if two (or three or four, etc.) matches are sharing on the same copy of the same chromosome. Be careful when you use this tool, though.
