There was also a T20 match between Australia and New Zealand, The Black Caps had a history making win against South Africa, the Aussie Women flogged South Africa in Perth and our show makes headlines in Romania. And of course Ollie's Quiz is Back! India beat England by 434 runs in the 3rd Test with some incredible individual and team performances but it's England that are doing all the talking. Weird talking. Crows feet talking. Is it necessary? Is it good? Is it arrogant? Is it umpire's call? Is the series over? Annabel Sutherland and the Australia Women's team make us coo like pigeons while being fed grapes like a Roman Emperor after their enormous, innings victory over South Africa. Are you scared of future losses or grateful for the now? What if brothers and sisters play for Australia forever? There's some interesting Pucovski, Green, Bancroft and Maddinson runs The Shield. How are ya, Slug? Kane Williamson scores 3 Test hundreds in 2 games ahead of the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy and the 2 Test series against Australia. Will the Kiwis abuse the Australians? #AskTGC makes us question when we used to wash our whites. RMIT's Dr Leonora Risse, formerly of Harvard's Women and Public Policy Program, argues greater gender diversity in economics would improve the quality of economic analysis and policy advice. Arguably, it would shine more light on and promote solutions to gender inequality (e.g. the gender pay gap). Is Leonora right, or is this “self-serving identity politics” as some fellow economists have alleged about a focus on gender issues? Economics Explored host Gene Tunny explores this question in a wide-ranging conversation with Leonora. The discussion considers differing average preferences among male and female economists on policy issues such as fiscal austerity and redistribution, touching on UBI. About this episode's guest - Dr Leonora RisseDr Leonora Risse is an economist who specialises in gender equality. She is a Research Fellow with the Women's Leadership Institute Australia, and recently spent time in residence at Harvard University as a Research Fellow with the Women and Public Policy Program.Leonora is a co-founder of the Women in Economics Network (WEN) in Australia and currently serves as the WEN National Chair. Leonora earned her PhD in Economics from the University of Queensland, and previously served as a Senior Research Economist for the Australian Government Productivity Commission. She is currently appointed as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia.Leonora's research focuses on understanding gender differences in economic opportunities and outcomes, encompassing such issues as the gender pay gap, women's under-representation in leadership, and the influence of societal norms. Her areas of expertise extend to labour economics, demographic economics, economic psychology, disadvantage and wellbeing. She engages regularly with public audiences, government, industry and community groups on gender equality issues. This includes identifying evidence-based strategies to close gender gaps and applying a ‘gender lens' to economic analysis and policy design.Leonora was named among Apolitical's 100 Most Influential People in Gender Policy in 2021.Leonora's Twitter handle: @leonora_risseLinks relevant to the conversationLeonora's papers:Lifting diversity and inclusion in economics: How the Australian Women in Economics Network put the evidence into actionEconomics and Gender Equality: A Lens from WithinOther material:Reserve Bank of Australia: Women in Economics educational materialThe Gender Pay Gap with Dr Leonora RisseThanks to the show's audio engineer Josh Crotts for his assistance in producing the episode. Dr Mckay and I discuss the topic of Mental toughness within the practice of physiotherapy. This surrounds the themes of being strong while performing the tasks involved with the job, but also being tough and resilient when away from home and family for quite some time. Dr Mckay has recently returned home from the Tokyo Olympic games with the Australia Women' Basketball team. And after a prolonged period in isolation, she describes how being resilient has never been more important. We also discuss the role women play in the industry. Dr Mckay shared her thoughts on what she considers a female dominated industry, now trying to make it within male sports. Throughout her career, she has had no issues getting female mentors or getting jobs, but now she admits that it can be hard for young female physios who are trying to get in men's sports such as the AFL. They must work doubly hard to be accepted. The WNBL, WAFL and women's soccer are coming as an evolution so will eventually bridge this gap within the industry. Adding onto her time with the Opals, Dr Mckay stresses the point that she is there to support the athletes without question. Her role might not be to coach or mentally support the athletes, but she understands that she always needs to be ready to talk and be another support network. Especially away on tours. Dr Mckay high advocates the necessity of a sports psychologist to be a part of a high-performance team. Throughout her journey with the Opals and in the WNBL, she has been able to recognise signs and symptoms of mental deterioration within the athletes as they battle to perform. So, the need for a sports psychologist is paramount. https://www.alphingtonsportsmed.com.au/category/tags/gaylene-mckay https://www.linkedin.com/in/gaylene-mckay-8374bb86/?originalSubdomain=au

I got so excited when he offered to get involved so I began searching for this coming interview. It was recorded back in Jan ’18, when we had a chat about Soccajoeys and setting up the foundation for a successful life by providing a safe learning environment in sport.
