To many modern academic and intellectuals, belief in psychic phenomena like telepathy and precognition holds the same status as belief in fairies or alien abductions. Surely — so many of our peers seem to feel — we should have progressed beyond such irrational nonsense. If we accepted the reality of psychic phenomena, it would mean returning to a world of superstition and witchcraft. It is useful to think in terms of hard and soft paranormal phenomena. There are some types of paranormal phenomena whose existence is more questionable than others, because they don't have a lot of evidence for them — for example, UFOs, alien abductions, fairies, haunted houses, demonic possession, or witchcraft. You could call these soft paranormal phenomena. On the other hand, there are some types of paranormal phenomena that have been rigorously tested over many decades, and have accumulated a lot of evidence. Their existence also makes sense from a theoretical point of view, especially in terms of some of the theories and findings of modern physics. These are what I call hard paranormal phenomena. This mainly refers to phenomena that are sometimes referred to under the umbrella term of extra-sensory perception, or ESP. This includes telepathy, precognition and clairvoyance (or remote viewing). Hard and soft paranormal phenomena are often lumped together, which makes it easy for them to be dismissed in toto — throwing the baby out with of the bathwater, you could say. Vajravarahi (Tib. Dorje Phagmo) is a wrathful aspect of the Tantric goddess Vajrayogini. Vajravarahi can be translated as “diamond sow.” She symbolizes the supreme power that removes all obstacles on the path to enlightenment, as well as the passion, compassion, and wisdom that overcomes ignorance and attachment to the illusory self. Vajravarahi has the typical characteristics of the wrathful deities. Her distinguishing feature is the head of a sow, which is usually depicted behind her right ear or above her head. This iconographic element makes some scholars believe that Vajravarahi originates from Hindu goddess Varahi. Wild sow plays an important role in Indian religions with its power, fearlessness, and invincibility. Tibetan sources interpret the sow's head as a sign of victory over ignorance and delusion, as well as overcoming desires and attachments. The main iconographic form of Vajravarahi is red in color, with one face, three eyes and a wrathful expression. Usually she is depicted with two hands, in which she holds the same attributes as Vajrayogini: in the right – a curved knife (Tib. driguk), and in the left – a kapala (skull cup) filled with blood and a trident (Tib. tsesum). She is standing in a dancing manner with the left leg extended in a half in a vajrasana (diamond posture). Her feet stepped on a corpse, symbolizing the victory over the ego and the elimination of illusions. Flames of primordial wisdom are often depicted around her figure. There is also a white form of Vajravarahi, which has a peaceful expression. Her figure is in the same pose and with the same attributes as the red one. "Fierce Demon-Destroying - Chandika/The Violent & Impetuous One - Chandi"; (Sanskrit: “The Fierce”) demon-destroying form of the Hindu goddess Shakti, particularly popular in eastern India. She is known by various names, such as Mahamaya (“Great Magic”) or Abhaya (“She Who Is Without Fear”). Her representation is similar to that of Durga, another form of Shakti. She is shown with either 8 or 10 arms, seated on a lion vehicle. Hundreds of folktales and songs tell of her exploits. She is the central figure of an extensive medieval Bengali literature known as Chandi-mangal, the most famous of which is that of Mukundarama Chakravarti (c. 16th century). The form that Goddess Durga took to annihilate demons Chanda and Munda is unimaginable and it is beyond the capacity of human beings. The net result is that sculptures, idol makers and writers wanted to better what was imagined by the previous generation. Thus we have numerous forms of Goddess Chandika. Symbolically the Goddess Chandika form is that of the Violent Mother Nature, who annihilates her sons, who have strayed from the path of Dharma. It must be noted here that the form that Goddess Durga took to kill Chanda and Munda is also known as Goddess Chamunda. "Lion-Headed Dakini - Simhamukha"; Simhamukha is a supreme dakini in Tibetan Buddhism, who combines anthropomorphic and zoomorphic features. She is an wrathful emanation of Guhya Jnana Dakini (Tib. Sangwa Yeshe Khandroma) and is revered in the Nyingma school as one of Padmasambhava's main teachers. Simhamukha is associated with exorcist rituals that prevent black magic and eliminate harmful effects. The ritual practice includes the use of a kapala and a metal mirror on which dharmodaya (“the source of reality”, symbolically depicted in the shape of a tetrahedron) is painted with red powder, in the center of which is written HUNG, the bija mantra of the wrathful goddesses. The mantra of Simhamukha, AH KA SA MA RA TSA SHA DA RA SA MA RA YA PHAT, is known as “the fierce mantra of fourteen letters that averts all magical attacks” (ngag drag log yige chuzhipa). It can be pronounced in a reverse way during extremely wrathful rituals, and it can also be written on the human body to create the so-called “vajra armor” (dorje gotrab) of the subtle body....

Kamala (“she of the lotus”), is the last in the list of the Ten Mahavidyas (great revelations or manifestations), who are a group of Tantric goddesses. Kamala's place as the last of the Mahavidyas is not addressed in the literature. Although it may be taken as signifying a lesser importance than the others, Kamala is one of the most widely worshipped outside of her relationship with the Mahavidyas. She is portrayed as auspicious and beautiful, with a lovely golden complexion. She is seated in a lotus posture upon a lotus flower. She has four hands—two holding lotuses and two held in signs of granting blessings and giving assurance. Iconography of Kamala illustrates her being bathed in nectar by two (sometimes four) large elephants. Kamala is represented in a similar manner to the very popular goddess Sri-Lakshmi, as Kamala and Sri Lakshmi are considered to be the same goddess. For the uninitiated, like any deity, there are many fables and legends about her, but the most notable is the story of her rebirth and how the gods got their immortality, known as The Churning of the Milky Ocean. The story goes that the warrior god Indra was tasked with protecting the world from demons that had long sought to destroy it and with Lakshmi's help he did so successfully for many years. One day, he was gifted a garland of sacred flowers by a wise sage, displeased by the gift Indra threw the flowers away in a show of arrogance. Lakshmi who had been observing this interaction was angered by his arrogance and rudeness and decided to leave the world of the god and enter into the Milky Ocean as punishment. Australian Aboriginal religion and mythology is the sacred spirituality represented in the stories performed by Aboriginal Australians within each of the language groups across Australia in their ceremonies. Aboriginal spirituality includes the Dreamtime (the Dreaming), songlines, and Aboriginal oral literature. Aboriginal spirituality often conveys descriptions of each group's local cultural landscape, adding meaning to the whole country's topography from oral history told by ancestors from some of the earliest recorded history. Most of these spiritualities belong to specific groups, but some span the whole continent in one form or another. The stories enshrined in Aboriginal mythology variously "tell significant truths within each Aboriginal group's local landscape. They effectively layer the whole of the Australian continent's topography with cultural nuance and deeper meaning, and empower selected audiences with the accumulated wisdom and knowledge of Australian Aboriginal ancestors back to time immemorial". There are 900 distinct Aboriginal groups across Australia, each distinguished by unique names usually identifying particular languages, dialects, or distinctive speech mannerisms. Each language was used for original myths, from which the distinctive words and names of individual myths derive. With so many distinct Aboriginal groups, languages, beliefs and practices, scholars cannot attempt to characterise, under a single heading, the full range and diversity of all myths being variously and continuously told, developed, elaborated, performed, and experienced by group members across the entire continent. The depiction of Lilith in Romanticism continues to be popular among Wiccans and in other modern Occultism. A few magical orders dedicated to the undercurrent of Lilith, featuring initiations specifically related to the arcana of the "first mother", exist. Two organisations that use initiations and magic associated with Lilith are the Ordo Antichristianus Illuminati and the Order of Phosphorus. Lilith appears as a succubus in Aleister Crowley's De Arte Magica. Lilith was also one of the middle names of Crowley's first child, Nuit Ma Ahathoor Hecate Sappho Jezebel Lilith Crowley (1904–1906), and Lilith is sometimes identified with Babalon in Thelemic writings. Many early occult writers that contributed to modern day Wicca expressed special reverence for Lilith. Charles Leland associated Aradia with Lilith: Aradia, says Leland, is Herodias, who was regarded in stregheria folklore as being associated with Diana as chief of the witches.
