Those looking for an explanation for how Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 released in such a bad state now have one. According to Bloomberg the MW3 campaign and COD MW3 multiplayer were built in a very short window. Even Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 zombies is being criticized. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a 2023 first-person shooter video game developed by Sledgehammer Games and published by Activision. It is the twentieth game in the Call of Duty series, and third entry in the rebooted Modern Warfare sub-series, serving as the direct sequel to 2022's Modern Warfare II. On this episode, James Batchelor and Christopher Dring discuss the upcoming reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6, and how the development team behind it has changed since the launch of the record-breaking Grand Theft Auto 5 back in 2013. We also discuss the reports regarding the allegedly strained development of Modern Warfare 3 (reports that Sledgehammer Games has since denied), and the position the Call of Duty brand finds itself in as it receives the lowest review scores in the series' history.
Well, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 campaign has been playable for a weekend, and the reviews are worse than I expected. The COD MW3 campaign is so short. Virtually every Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 review is extremely negative and critical. Most of this centers around how short the campaign is, in addition to the open combat missions being incredibly bland and disappointing. My current COD MW3 review is nothing short of a disaster. It is clear now more than ever than Modern Warfare 3 is DLC and nothing more.
If the title wasn't a giveaway, we have learned that Charles Martinet will not longer be the voice of Mario in future Mario games, tis a sad day in gaming. Yet at the same time Gamescom is currently going on in Germany, and we got a wealth of gaming news to talk about. Activision pulled the lid off of the Modern Warfare III, Atari is trying to make another comeback, and oh yeah, Microsoft is selling Activision streaming rights to Ubisoft. Meanwhile in Hollywoodland, the WGA continue their strike and call out the big three, Disney announces a slew of physical releases for digital only shows, and Ahsoka is the best live action Star Wars show, full stop. Plus I give my honest opinion about my top 10 favorite 80s movies.

Welcome to Dev Game Club, where this week we present an interview with Rosie Katz,. who acted as a level designer not only on Dead Space, but the Call of Duty series (and with whom the hosts work today). Dev Game Club looks at classic video games and plays through them over several episodes, providing commentary. Podcast breakdown: 0:47 Interview 1:03:30 Break 1:04:00 Outro Issues covered: starting in central tech testing, getting in through QA, using Maya as a level design tool, bringing in the internal tech tool, easiest level design test ever, picking between games, switching to new IP, feeling the pressure to be more action-oriented due to sales potential, looking at competitors, not needing the vision to be communicated, the classic schism, games needing the room to be what they are, a room that has everything, a complicated set piece, what you do as a level designer on Dead Space, managing streaming, importing references into the tools, having setups provided, focusing on combat scenarios, doing real level design, understanding pacing first, putting the lock before the key, building in polish from the beginning, foreshadowing with audio early, moving to wide linear level design, getting to make multiplayer levels and play them internally, modding, playing many many levels, shifting meta and player creativity, less work and greater reward, making stuff that you wouldn't normally play, consistency in a single game, learning from the experienced folks with your own experience. Games, people, and influences mentioned or discussed: Tiger Woods 2007, EA, Godfather 2, Sledgehammer Games, Visceral Studios, Call of Duty (series), DICE, Ubisoft, Michael Condrey, The Simpsons, Ian Milham, Glen Schofield, Resident Evil (series), BioShock, Gears of War, Star Trek, Star Wars, Crystal Dynamics, Noah Hughes, Nintendo Wii, Infinity Ward, Titanfall, Dark Souls, Kirk Hamilton, Aaron Evers, Mark Garcia.

Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/PSTrophyRoom Discord: https://discord.gg/wPNp3kC Twitter: https://twitter.com/PSTrophyRoom NEW Merch: https://bit.ly/3fEz5aU --------------------------------------------- This week on The Trophy Room A PlayStation podcast Joseph and Kyle talk on the show the single biggest news to ever land in the video game industry. Microsoft Xbox has purchased Activision Blizzard King for 68 billion dollars. Serving as the largest acquisition in the video game industry! this means Xbox first-party now includes Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends Entertainment, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Solid State, Toys for Bob, Treyarch, Blizzard Entertainment, King.com Limited, Major League Gaming Corp, Activision Blizzard Studios, Activision Blizzard Consumer Products Group... THATS A LOT OF GAMES. This hurts PlayStations wallet no doubt as Call of Duty alone makes it to the top PlayStation selling game year in year out. The news itself caused Sony stock to plunge over 13% losing the company over 20 billion dollars
Shortly after our original episode this week posted, Microsoft dropped a bombshell on the video game world by announcing that they are purchasing Activision Blizzard for a whopping $67.8 billion, more than ten times the amount they paid for Bethesda. In a post on Xbox Wire written by CEO of Xbox Gaming himself, Phil Spencer, he stated that they are “incredibly excited to have the chance to work with the amazing, talented, dedicated people across Activision Publishing, Blizzard Entertainment, Beenox, Demonware, Digital Legends, High Moon Studios, Infinity Ward, King, Major League Gaming, Radical Entertainment, Raven Software, Sledgehammer Games, Toys for Bob, Treyarch and every team across Activision Blizzard.” This means Microsoft would now own franchises like Diablo, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro the Dragon, Overwatch, Star Craft, Warcraft, Candy Crush, Pitfall, and of course Call of Duty, all of which will be added to Xbox Game Pass upon acquisition. FTW with Imad Khan: An Esports And Competitive Gaming Podcast
On Nov. 16, Kirsten Grind, Ben Fritz and Sarah Needleman of The Wall Street Journal put out a bombshell report regarding Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. Earlier this year, California's Department of Fair Housing and Employment sued Activision Blizzard over multiple allegations of employee harassment and abuse. The company has been since been combative, fighting back at the allegations and appealing to the public that it is a safe place to work that's inclusive of all types of people. Kotick himself made a similar statement, and reportedly downplayed the severity of the multiple situations to the board of directors, and wasn't aware of others. The report said that Kotick was aware of a rape that occurred between a female employee and her male supervisor in 2016 and 2017 at Sledgehammer Games. Kotick reportedly did not inform the board regarding the assault. This week, Imad is joined by Shannon Liao of The Washington Post for more insight into the latest chapter in an already exhausting saga.

Davatzes joined the company as CEO in 1983 just as A&E Networks was formed through the merger of fledgling cable channels Entertainment Network, owned by RCA and the Rockefeller family, and ARTS Network, owned by Hearst and ABC. A+E Networks today is a 50-50 joint venture of the Walt Disney Co. and Hearst Corp. Davatzes served as CEO emeritus. Davatzes led the company's launch of the signature A&E Network (an amalgam of Arts and Entertainment) in 1984 and History Channel in 1995 (History formally dropped “Channel” from its moniker in 2008). He served as CEO of the parent company through 2005, when he was succeeded by protege Abbe Raven, who started at the company as a secretary. Davatzes was known for promoting educational outreach and the importance of industry R&D during his run at A&E Networks. The company later expanded to include the Lifetime cable channel as well as more recent entries like lifestyle channel FYI and Lifetime Movie Network. Disney executive chairman Bob Iger hailed him as a “towering figure in the early days of cable television (who helped) build some of the most iconic brands in the media landscape.” Iger added that he was “a person of true integrity.” He died in Wilton, Connecticut.24th August 2021 – Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts passes away at 80 - https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-25/rolling-stones-drummer-charlie-watts-dies-at-age-80/100404658Charlie Watts, the drummer who provided the backbone of the Rolling Stones' songs for more than half a century, has died. Watts "passed away peacefully in a London hospital earlier today surrounded by his family," his publicist Bernard Doherty said. "Charlie was a cherished husband, father and grandfather and also as a member of The Rolling Stones, as one of the greatest drummers of his generation." The quiet, elegantly dressed Watts was often ranked with Keith Moon, Ginger Baker and a handful of others as a premier rock drummer, respected worldwide for his muscular, swinging style as the band rose from its scruffy beginnings to international superstardom. He joined the Stones early in 1963 and remained over the next 60 years, ranked just behind Jagger and Keith Richards as the group's longest lasting and most essential members. Watts stayed on, and largely held himself apart, through the drug abuse, creative clashes and ego wars that helped kill founding member Brian Jones, drove bassist Bill Wyman and Jones' replacement Mick Taylor to quit and otherwise made being in the Stones the most exhausting of jobs. The Stones began, Watts said, "as white blokes from England playing black American music" but quickly evolved their own distinctive sound. Watts was a jazz drummer in his early years and never lost his affinity for the music he first loved, heading his own jazz band and taking on numerous other side projects. He had his eccentricities — Watts liked to collect cars even though he didn't drive and would simply sit in them in his garage. But he was a steadying influence on stage and off as the Stones defied all expectations by rocking well into their 70s, decades longer than their old rivals The Beatles. He died in London with his family around him.25th August 2021 – Linux turns 30 - https://www.zdnet.com/article/linus-torvalds-on-linuxs-30th-birthday/ In 1991, Unix was an important but secondary x86 operating system. That year, on August 25, a mild-mannered Finnish graduate student named Linus Benedict Torvalds announced on the Usenet group comp.os.minix that he was working on "a (free) operating system (just a hobby, won't be big and professional like gnu) for 386(486) AT clones." No one knew it, not even Torvalds, but the technology was going to change forever. Thirty years later, Linux rules IT. Almost all major websites -- including Google, Facebook, and Wikipedia -- run on Linux. It's the same with the clouds. Even on Microsoft's own Azure, the most popular operating system is Linux. As for supercomputers, all 500 of the world's fastest 500 supercomputers run Linux. Thanks to Android, Linux is also the most popular end-user operating system. Not bad for a hobby operating system! In those very first days, Linux wasn't formally known as Linux. Torvalds explained, "Linux was my working name, but I never wanted to release it as Linux. Linux was a perfectly good working name, but if I actually used it as the official one, people would think that I am an egomaniac and wouldn't take it seriously. So I chose this very bad name, "Freax," for "Free Unix." Fortunately, the first Linux administrator Ari Lemmk, decided Freax was a silly name too. Hence, he actually named it Linux because he thought this internal project name was Torvalds first choice.Remembrances25th August 1822 – William Herschel - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_HerschelGerman-born British astronomer and composer. He frequently collaborated with his younger sister and fellow astronomer Caroline Lucretia Herschel. Born in the Electorate of Hanover, William Herschel followed his father into the military band of Hanover, before emigrating to Great Britain in 1757 at the age of nineteen. Herschel constructed his first large telescope in 1774, after which he spent nine years carrying out sky surveys to investigate double stars. Herschel published catalogues of nebulae in 1802 (2,500 objects) and in 1820 (5,000 objects). The resolving power of the Herschel telescopes revealed that many objects called nebulae in the Messier catalogue were actually clusters of stars. On 13 March 1781 while making observations he made note of a new object in the constellation of Gemini. This would, after several weeks of verification and consultation with other astronomers, be confirmed to be a new planet, eventually given the name of Uranus. This was the first planet to be discovered since antiquity, and Herschel became famous overnight. As a result of this discovery, George III appointed him Court Astronomer. He was elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society and grants were provided for the construction of new telescopes. Herschel pioneered the use of astronomical spectrophotometry, using prisms and temperature measuring equipment to measure the wavelength distribution of stellar spectra. In the course of these investigations, Herschel discovered infrared radiation. Other work included an improved determination of the rotation period of Mars, the discovery that the Martian polar caps vary seasonally, the discovery of Titania and Oberon (moons of Uranus) and Enceladus and Mimas (moons of Saturn). Herschel was made a Knight of the Royal Guelphic Order in 1816. He was the first President of the Royal Astronomical Society when it was founded in 1820. He died at the age of 83 at Observatory House, Windsor Road, Slough Herschel's epitaph is Coelorum perrupit claustra (He broke through the barriers of the heavens).Famous Birthdays25th August 1819 – Allan Pinkerton - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allan_PinkertonScottish–American detective and spy, best known for creating the Pinkerton National Detective Agency. Pinkerton first became interested in criminal detective work while wandering through the wooded groves around Dundee, looking for trees to make barrel staves, when he came across a band of counterfeiters, who may have been affiliated with the notorious Banditti of the Prairie. After observing their movements for some time he informed the local sheriff, who arrested them. This later led to Pinkerton being appointed, in 1849, as the first police detective in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. In 1850, he partnered with Chicago attorney Edward Rucker in forming the North-Western Police Agency, which later became Pinkerton & Co, and finally Pinkerton National Detective Agency, still in existence today as Pinkerton Consulting and Investigations, a subsidiary of Securitas AB. Pinkerton's business insignia was a wide open eye with the caption "We never sleep." As the US expanded in territory, rail transport increased. Pinkerton's agency solved a series of train robberies during the 1850s, first bringing Pinkerton into contact with George McClellan, then Chief Engineer and Vice President of the Illinois Central Railroad, and Abraham Lincoln, the company's lawyer. When the Civil War began, Pinkerton served as head of the Union Intelligence Service during the first two years, heading off an alleged assassination plot in Baltimore, Maryland while guarding Abraham Lincoln on his way to Washington, D.C. as well as identifying troop numbers in military campaigns. His agents often worked undercover as Confederate soldiers and sympathizers to gather military intelligence. Pinkerton himself served on several undercover missions as a Confederate soldier using the alias Major E.J. Allen. He worked across the Deep South in the summer of 1861, focusing on fortifications and Confederate plans. This counterintelligence work done by Pinkerton and his agents is comparable to the work done by today's U.S. Army Counterintelligence Special Agents in which Pinkerton's agency is considered an early predecessor. He was succeeded as Intelligence Service chief by Lafayette Baker; the Intelligence Service was the predecessor of the U.S. Secret Service. His work led to the establishment of the Federal secret service. Despite his agency's later reputation for anti-labor activities, Pinkerton himself was heavily involved in pro-labor politics as a young man. Though Pinkerton considered himself pro-labor, he opposed strikes and distrusted labor unions. He was born in Gorbals, Glasgow.Events of Interest25th August 1957- The Invisible Man Vs. The Human Fly premiered in Japan - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0204691/ A star is born! On this day in 1957 (in Japan), The Invisible Man Vs. The Human Fly took to the silver screen for a monster of a pairing! Directed by Mitsuo Murayama, the SciFi/Fantasy starred Ryûji Shinagawa and Yoshirô Kitahara; and here's the plot summary: "A ruthless serial killer with a peculiar method of stalking and killing his victims comes face to face with a police officer turned invisible by a scientific experiment. Who will emerge triumphant?" In the late 1950s, in the United States this film was announced, and stills were published, under the English language title "The Murdering Mite." This film shares part of its Japanese title with the Japanese release of the much better-known 1958 U.S. science fiction film The Fly, which was released in Japan as Fear of the Fly Man (ハエ男の恐怖 Hae Otoko no Kyōfu), though with the 'Fly' in "Fly Man" spelled in katakana rather than kanji characters. While both films feature "fly men," The Invisible Man vs. The Human Fly actually predates the latter film by almost an entire year.25th August 1989 – Voyager 2 spacecraft makes its closest approach to Neptune, the last planet in the Solar System at the time, due to Pluto being within Neptune's orbit from 1979 to 1999 - https://www.wired.com/2010/08/0825voyager2-neptune/ Voyager 2 makes its closest encounter with Neptune, passing just 3,000 miles above the cloud tops of the most distant planet in our solar system. The Voyager 2 space probe has been our most productive unmanned space voyage. It visited all four of the outer planets and their systems of moons and rings, including the first visits to previously unexplored Uranus and Neptune. Voyager 2 found four rings and evidence for ring arcs, or incomplete rings, above Neptune. That means all four of the gas giants in our solar system have rings. Neptune's, however, are very meager compared to the magnificent rings around Saturn. In the late 19th century, astronomers thought that an unseen Planet X was influencing the orbits of Uranus and Neptune. The observed positions of the two planets and their calculated positions differed. Among those astronomers convinced of the existence of Planet X was Clyde Tombaugh. In 1930 while scanning areas of the sky for Planet X, he found Pluto. When Voyager 2 flew by Neptune, it took very precise measurements of Neptune's mass and found it to be about 0.5 percent less massive than previous estimates. When the orbits of Uranus and Neptune were recalculated using the more accurate mass figure, it became clear that the imprecise number for Neptune -- and not the gravity of an unseen planet -- had caused the observed orbital discrepancies. After its encounter with Neptune, the spacecraft was rechristened the Voyager Interstellar Mission by NASA to take measurements of the interplanetary magnetic field, plasma and charged-particle environment. But mostly it's searching for the heliopause, the distance at which the solar wind becomes subsumed by the more general interstellar wind.IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/Email - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.comSupport via Podhero- https://podhero.com/podcast/449127/nerds-amalgamated See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Today on IGN The Fix: Games, SledgeHammer Games is taking the helm of the next Call of Duty. And while a CoD for the new year isn't too much of a surprise, the news that Sledgehammer will prioritize consoles like the Xbox Series S and X and the PlayStation 5 is an interesting tidbit. Have you ever dreamt of kicking chickens across Albion in a stunningly recreated world? If you have, that's incredibly specific, but if you haven't then you'll be surprised to find out that the new Fable will be developed using the Forza Engine. And last but certainly not least, Nike has teamed up with Sony to bring fans a PS5 themed shoe.

None of them are as weird as this next live stream. From Dexerto‘Stopsigncam' is a channel dedicated to filming a single stop sign on a random street in Salem, Massachusetts, with the account claiming that 98.73% of vehicles don't actually stop for it.While it doesn't sound like the most gripping content at first glance, Twitch viewers have become weirdly fascinated with the stream. Due to the fact that most cars don't actually stop for the sign, when someone actually obeys the instruction, the chat goes crazy. On top of that, as more and more people are catching on to the stream, some have started to actually go to the sign in person knowing that they will end up on camera. One person stopped at the sign, only to get out of his car and do a backflip.Another pair decided to re-enact a lightsaber fight, adding an unexpected bit of entertainment to the ongoing stream. The channel currently only has 7.6 thousand followers, but some of its most popular clips have over 20,000 views. While it's not the most conventional form of entertainment, stopsigncam has proven to be weirdly fascinating to plenty of viewers, and as it gets more popular, the higher the chance that people will look for the sign so they can appear on stream. Tighe - Now that people have figured out where this is of course neighbors and the streamer have started to be harassed by pizza deliveries and the fun things the internet loves to do. Do you think Twitch will eventually crack down on stuff like this because they could become liable for the harassment? The end of Ludwig's absurd 2-week Twitch stream may finally be in sight We're now 12 days into variety streamer Ludwig Ahgren's 'never-ending' subathon Twitch stream and, by golly, it actually looks like it could end this weekend. As I write this, Ludwig's chat of 36,000 viewers is fighting to keep the timer above 18 hours by tacking on another 10 seconds with every subscription. The streamer's efforts have already made him the most subscribed-to channel on Twitch right now with the second-highest total sub count ever of 120,000 (second only to Ninja's record peak of 269,000). Ludwig has a trip planned for tomorrow, March 27, that he isn't bailing on, which means he'll be forced to step away from the stream for the first time in almost 300 hours. How much his sub count grows over the next 12 hours will likely determine how this thing finally concludes. Streamer Slime (Ludwig's roommate) will take over the subathon in his absence and even sleep on stream in Ludwig's race car bed. "I understand that this is Ludwig's stream, but we're in a weird spot," Slime said. "The [Ludwig] viewer does necessarily wish to see Slime," he said. "What I do not look forward to is 1,000 people asking, 'Who the hell is this bald douchebag?' That's just really annoying." Ludwig chimes in, "You're my horcrux, and I don't want to die." In the event that the timer is about to strike zero while Ludwig is away, his team has been instructed to halt the timer when it reaches one hour. "And then when [Ludwig] comes back, subathon is back on like Donkey Kong and the one hour starts again," Slime said in an update this morning. Off-screen, Ludwig adds, "It's like the last lap in Mario Kart." Beardcules - We see a lot of trends come and go on Twitch do you think this could become a trend or will this be a one off?GTA Online Streamer xQc Nearly Passes Out During Bank HeistReported on by Dexerto, xQc was participating in an intense bank heist on a GTA RP server. He took hostages, battled player-controlled police, but still failed to unlock the vault. During the heist, xQc saw his heart rate skyrocket to 170 BPM, and he nearly passed out from the stress. In a clip from the stream, xQc claimed his peripherals were blacking out and he was on the verge of passing out right on stream.Thankfully, xQc managed to get out alive but left empty-handed, unable to solve the puzzle to open the vault. With police yelling from outside and the risk of having his character shot and killed for one of his most outrageous Grand Theft Auto stunts, the streamer's heartrate shot up to dangerous heights and the pressure almost caused him to pass out. When roleplaying in Grand Theft Auto, players often invest a lot of time and attention, and when they find themselves in close-call situations, it can be extremely stressful. Having hostages to worry about and the need to impress his audience by succeeding in the bank heist, the pressure mounted too heavily on his shoulders and he almost fainted.Rogue - This is one of those things you have to wonder if Twitch will crack down on because of harm to the streamer. I think we should get you a heart rate monitor for when you play phasmophobia alone.Tech/Gaming News - Brought to you by our merch store! RIP, Xbox Live (2002-2021) XBOX LIVE IS DEAD LONG LIVE XBOX LIVEFrom Kotaku, many Xbox users noticed a small change on the the Xbox dashboard. While uploading a screenshot to Xbox Live, some players noticed a reference to “Xbox network” where “Xbox Live” used to be.“‘Xbox network' refers to the underlying Xbox online service, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement,” a Microsoft spokesperson told The Verge. “The update from ‘Xbox Live' to ‘Xbox network' is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold memberships.”In January, Microsoft announced an intention to increase the price of Xbox Live Gold, making it so the minimum (official) annual cost would leap from $60 to $120. Following widespread backlash, Microsoft reversed course and further announced that Xbox Live Gold would no longer be necessary to play free-to-play games. That change will happen at some point in the coming months, with no firm date yet.Tighe - What do you think of this rebrand for Microsoft? Call Of Duty Hacker Gets Banned From Two Games In One Twitch StreamThere is no one dumber on earth than someone dumb enough to hack or cheat while streaming a video game. Thankfully they get what they deserve. From screen rantActivision isn't pulling any punches when it comes to hackers and cheaters in Call of Duty, as one unfortunate streamer realized when he was banned from not one, but two different COD games in a single streaming session. A Twitch streamer banned during a livestream of Call of Duty: Warzone switched over to Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War only to discover that Activision's banhammer extended to him there as well.Call of Duty titles have had an especially disastrous epidemic of hackers as of late; an influx of cheaters that required Activision to take more drastic steps in order to curb the problem. With the Call of Duty franchise seeing a massive increase of active players in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to take preventative measures to curb or eliminate hackers and cheat bots rose with it. The cheating problem got bad enough that a Modern Warfare tournament was effectively ruined by hackers, which ultimately put a damper on the game's reputation. Activision, not one to take any threats to its profitable franchises lightly, was forced to take more drastic action to oust hackers. February alone saw Activision banning over 60,000 Warzone players for using popular cheating software, and the crusade to eliminate cheaters and hackers from Call of Duty is still pressing forward. This might be why Twitch streamer KD1PP found himself on the business end of the banhammer not once, but twice in the same stream. Serves you right.Beard - Do you think twitch should also crack down on cheating streams? This year's Call of Duty returns to WW2This year's Call of Duty returns to World War 2, according to fresh reports in part verified by Eurogamer.Modern Warzone reported this year's new Call of Duty is in development at Sledgehammer Games, maker of 2017's well-received Call of Duty: WW2, and is due out late 2021. Eurogamer sources have indicated this is indeed true.Modern Warzone also reports this game is codenamed Call of Duty WW2: Vanguard, and reports the name will be changed in the future. While this may indeed be the case, Eurogamer understands Activision's current plan is to stick with the Vanguard subtitle for the final version.Modern Warzone also reports "the entire game takes place in an alternate timeline where 1945 wasn't the end of World War 2", and is set in the 1950s. Eurogamer understands this detail isn't quite right, and Vanguard has a traditional WW2 setting. An open question is whether Vanguard is set for integration with Warzone. Black Ops Cold War was announced within Warzone, and its integration into the battle royale, while suffering from significant problems, clearly boosted sales of Treyarch's shooter. With Warzone set for a cataclysmic zombie-fuelled nuke event in the near future, one that reportedly will usher in a significant '80s-themed map change for Verdansk, the question is this: is Warzone set for a WW2-themed change in the future, too?Rogue - What do you think of the WW2 alternate timeline?Entertainment News - This next segment brought to you by Us! Things however don't look great on that front. From cinema blendDuring an interview with Variety, WarnerMedia Studios CEO Ann Sarnoff was asked if following the arrival of Zack Snyder's Justice League, will more DCEU director's cuts be released, with David Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad specifically being mentioned. Sarnoff responded: We won't be developing David Ayer's cut.Well, that's a devastating blow to the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement, which started gaining in traction back in May 2020 after Zack Snyder's Justice League was announced. Like the Snyder Cut, there are plenty of differences between what unfolded in David Ayer's original version of Suicide Squad and what was presented in the theatrical cut, ranging from more scenes featuring Jared Leto's Joker to a badass fight sequence between Katana and the rest of Task Force X. While the theatrical cut was commercially successful and later won the Academy Award for Best Makeup and Hairstyling, its critical reception left a lot to be desired.David Ayer has been supportive of the efforts to getting the Ayer Cut released to the public, saying last November that his version of Suicide Squad was “ripped to pieces” as a result of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice being “chewed up by the critics” and the success of Deadpool. This resulted in Suicide Squad being changed from a “soulful drama” to a more comedic story. Ayer confirmed on numerous occasions that the director's cut of Suicide Squad exists, and urged fans to ask AT&T and HBO Max (which you can sign up for with this link) to “let it see the sunlight.” it's possible that WarnerMedia's unwillingness to release the Ayer Cut boils down to two reasons. One, although the #ReleaseTheAyerCut movement is obviously filled with passionate fans, its ranks haven't grown as big as the Snyder Cut fanbase. Two, while there are no more Justice League movies planned for the immediate future (although the #RestoreTheSnyderVerseMovement is well underway), Task Force X is sticking around the cinematic realm, with James Gunn having written and directed The Suicide Squad. So perhaps WB isn't keen on releasing the Ayer Cut to the masses because it doesn't want to draw attention away from the property ushering in a new era.Beard - It seems the move from dvd/bluray to streaming has hurt the Directors cut/ commentary scene. Why do you think studios wouldnt want more of their content out there?Ghost of Tsushima Movie From John Wick Director in Development Last years Breakout Game is getting a Big screen adaptation from the Director of the John Wick films. From IGNSony Pictures and PlayStation Productions are developing a film adaptation of Ghost of Tsushima, with John Wick director Chad Stahelski attached to helm.According to a new report from Deadline, Stahelski will work alongside producers Alex Young and Jason Spitz with their company 87Eleven Entertainment. Peter Kang of game developer Sucker Punch Productions will oversee the project on behalf of the studio, which will serve as executive producers. The film is set to adapt Ghost of Tsushima's story, which follows the journey of samurai warrior Jin Sakai as he fights for the freedom of the isle of Tsushima.“We're excited to be partnering with Chad and 87Eleven Entertainment, to bring their vision of Jin's story to the big screen," said Asad Qizilbash, Head of PlayStation Productions. "We love working with creative partners like Chad, who have a passion for our games, ensuring we can create rich adaptations that will excite our fans and new audiences.”Stahelski has been the long-term helmer of the John Wick series of highly-popular action movies, and is set to return for the upcoming John Wick 4, currently aiming for a 2022 release. It's currently unclear how far into development the Ghost of Tsushima movie is, and so there's no date yet confirmed for shooting or release.Tighe - Do you think this will be a hyper violent move in that it's being directed by A John Wick alum?https://kotaku.com/australian-government-officials-anime-figures-joker-st-1846541409/amp?__twitter_impression=true Bad news for Weebs considering a run for office in Australia. from KotakuAn Australian government official's display of pop culture, comics and anime figurines in their office has been declared a ‘psychological hazard', according to a statement from the Comcare government agency. The bizarre intersection of public servant and waifu figurines entered the national consciousness last year. Around 20 figurines were reportedly displayed in the office of Gerard Boyce, who remains the deputy president of the Fair Work Commission, and the figures had become the subject of debate at a Senate Estimates hearing. Some members of the Fair Work Commission questioned whether the figurines would “undermine trust in the professionalism” of the Commission at the time, and the deputy president was forced to remove at least one of the figurines. It's not clear exactly what was removed, but the Sydney Morning Herald reported that some of the figures included Scarlett Johansson's representation of the Major Ghost in the Shell, a figurine of Jared Leto's Joker, along with Harley Quinn in fishnets, and Captain America. Modern Warzone has reported that Sledgehammer Games is at work on 2021's Call of Duty, which known Call of Duty insider VictorZ shared will return to World War 2. Eurogamer's sources have confirmed this claim. However, Modern Warzone previously reported that the game would at least partially take place in the 1950s, leading to speculation of the game featuring an alternate timeline where the war didn't end in 1945. Convos with Creative People is a podcast about creative paths and processes. Each episode features interviews with creators of all genres and mediums, and discussions on writing, art, design, marketing, music, podcasting, and more. Hosted by me, Brian LeTendre. In this episode I dug into the 2009 archives of the Secret Identity podcast for an interview I did with Raven Software’s Senior Creative Director Dan Vondrak, about the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game. Why am I pulling up this interview now? Because Dan Vondrak directed the campaign of this year’s Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. I am loving the campaign, and what is kind of incredible about it is that much of it was created remotely during the pandemic. The idea for this episode came from the first time I booted up the game, as I got hit with a wave of nostalgia. Not because the game itself is set in the ‘80s (though that is a big deal for me as someone whose formative years were that decade), but because of the studio logos that are emblazoned on the screen when it starts. In addition to lead developer Treyarch, there are a slew of other studios who worked on the game, including Beenox, High Moon Studios, Sledgehammer, and Raven Software.I could write an entire series of blogs on the work of those studios (and I likely will at some point), as they created some of my favorite games of the Xbox 360/PS3/Wii generation. Just in case any of those names don’t ring a bell:High Moon Studios brought us the awesome Transformers games War for Cybertron, Dark of the Moon and Fall of Cybertron.Beenox created Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions and Spider-Man: Edge of Time, featuring my two favorite Spideys--Peter Parker and Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099).Sledgehammer Games was born out of Visceral Games, creators of Dead Space, one of my all-time favorite series.Raven Software was behind X-Men Legends I & II, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, and X-Men Origins: Wolverine, among many others.Which brings me to today’s blast from the past. Back in 2009, I was in the middle of my game journo stint, covering games for Comic Book Resources. The Secret Identity podcast was also going strong at that time, and NYCC was the place where we would get almost an entire year’s worth of interviews done for the show.It was at NYCC 2009 that I got to interview Senior Creative Director at Raven Software Dan Viondrak, who was the project lead on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a game that was released alongside the upcoming movie. The game featured a story written by Marc Guggenheim, who you may know from a variety of comic-related projects, including his run on Wolverine of course, as well as runs on Flash and Amazing Spider-man, and his development, writing and production work on the Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow TV shows. X-Men Origins: Wolverine received decent reviews at the time, and most agreed that the mechanics were the strong point. It felt great to play as Wolverine, and the game really captured the brutality of his combat skills, and how far he could push his healing factor. Sadly, unless you own a copy of the game and a console to play it on, you’d have a tough time playing X-Men Origins: Wolverine today. Thye license expired and it’s not available digitally. But there are plenty of used copies floating around out there, and it’s definitely worth checking out.Raven made a Wolfenstein game that was released later that year as well, and also the underrated Singularity in 2010, before working on the Call of Duty franchise for the past decade. Here are links where you can find more about X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Raven Software:Raven Software: https://www.ravensoftware.com/home X-Men Origins: Wolverine game trailer: https://youtu.be/E31qWQz4bHY X-Men origins: Wolverine full playthrough): https://youtu.be/mFV0qBtVDhUX-Men Origins: Wolverine game on Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Men_Origins:_Wolverine_(video_game)IGN Video on Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War campaign: https://youtu.be/OljMXwxn-TEAs always, you can follow me and keep up with my creative projects on Twitter @seebrianwrite. _________________________________________________CWCP Theme music: Dreamer by Kevin MacLeod, used under Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International Public License. On This episode of the Downloadable Gaming Podcast we recap the stories that took place over the weekend. Red Dead Online players have been reporting that piles of dead and burnt horses can be found throughout the game outside of major towns such as Valentine. This had led to not only something that is visually bothersome, but also causing performance issues such as frame rate drops and server disconnections. The potential cause of this problem is a duplication glitch that people in Red Dead Online have been using in order to duplicate the amount of fish they caught in their inventory. The issue has been brought up to Rockstar, but there hasn't been any confirmation that this issue has been fixed. Activision is breaking their normal Call of Duty cycle, opting to scrap Sledgehammer's scheduled 2020 title and put Treyarch's Black Ops 5 to release in 2020. This is caused after some tension between Sledgehammer Games and Raven, the studio assisting with Sledgehammer's game. Now both of these companies will be assisting with the campaign for Black Ops 5 and this also gives Treyarch only two years before their game is set to be released. Sony and Microsoft are working together! The two gaming giants have agreed to work together on a cloud based gaming service that is suppose to make it more enjoyable for gamers like us. But are they really doing it for us? Or because Google is right around the corner from releasing their own cloud based service? --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/downloadable-gaming/support

In today’s episode Oliver was joined via Skype by Aaron McLeran, Lead Audio Programmer at Epic Games. Aaron’s first taste of audio programming was writing computer music in CSound while in graduate school at University of Notre Dame (when he was supposed to be doing astrophysics research). Realising his true calling, he left physics to study procedural and interactive computer music, audio synthesis, and audio analysis with Dr. Curtis Roads at the University of Santa Barbara. His first game audio experience was writing procedural music on Spore where he got to collaborate with Brian Eno and Maxis’ audio director Kent Jolly on writing much of the game’s truly procedural music. His next game audio gig was a sound designer on Dead Space 2 where he wrote much of the games interactive audio systems in Lua along with accomplished audio director Don Veca. He made the leap from technical sound designer to audio programmer at Sledgehammer Games where he worked on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. His next audio programming gig was at ArenaNet where he got to wrangle with the unpredictability and scale of game audio in the context of an MMO and developed some pretty cool tech around for player-created music and musical interaction. He’s currently working on a new multi-platform audio mixer backend for UE4 and developing new tech and approaches to game audio for VR. Aaron speaks to Oliver about all things Game Audio and Procedural Audio and his unusual entry into the industry. Call of Duty is top best-selling first-person shooter series based on real events, but lately it has veered into futuristic sci-fi country. Call of Duty: World War II is an attempt to go back to the games WW2 roots. And historian Marty Morgan is there to make sure they get it right. He's an expert in military history who specializes in the World Wars. Morgan is a consultant for Sledgehammer Games. He has also has led hundreds of tour groups at the battle sites of D-Day, the Battle of the Bulge, and Hürtgen Forest. Marty makes sure that everything is right in the series. He focuses on which guns should be used on the Western Front or insignia on soldier's uniform. He makes sure that snipers are actually using the rifles they would have at that time (don't get him started on the erroneous use of weapons in Saving Private Ryan). He led Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey, co-founders of Sledgehammer, through the battlefields of Europe in the middle of winter to get a real feel of the soldiers' wartime experience. There they faced three or four feet of snow. There were still foxholes and trenches in the middle of nowhere. In the forest they saw a 60-ton King Tiger tank left by the Germans because it was too heavy to move. He worked with the creative team to give historical accuracy to the most Hollywood of scenes in the game. At point point the writers wanted a scene with a train. They asked Marty, 'What sort of train would be transporting important equipment in April 1944 that we could crumple?” He came up with a German military train carrying a V2 Rocket that ends in a climactic crash. After we so confidently predicted on last week's podcast that Destiny 2 couldn't possibly be released this year, Activision went and announced that the game would be out before the end of the year. We talk about this, what the next "traditional combat' Call of Duty from Sledgehammer Games might be, and ponder what the three virtual reality games that Valve has said it's making might be (our bet: something Portal.) Later in the show, we discuss the fact that this year's big gaming expo E3 2017 will be open to the public for the first time, with 15,000 tickets going on sale on Monday. What can you expect if you're lucky enough to score a ticket? Could it possibly be worth the $250 asking price?
