Steph, John and Dave move in only to discover WE HAVE A GHOST! Here's the Rapid Recap as written by Netflix RAPID RECAP Seeking a fresh start in Chicago, the Presley family moves into a dusty fixer-upper they soon realize comes with a catch: a ghost in the attic named Ernest (David Harbour). Despite Ernest's attempts at scaring teenage son Kevin (Jahi Winston), the detached, music-obsessed teen soon finds a kindred spirit in this trapped soul from the '70s and commits to helping him.Meanwhile, Kevin's affable-yet-harsh father Frank (Anthony Mackie) looks to cash in on Ernest by turning him into a social media sensation. When Frank's video of Ernest goes viral and captures the world's attention, the family lands on the radar of Dr. Leslie Monroe (Tig Notaro), a washed-up paranormal scientist who alerts her old boss, Deputy Director Arnold Schipley of the CIA (Steve Coulter), restarting a clandestine program aimed at capturing a ghost. As crowds, reporters, and government agents descend upon the Presley home, it's up to Kevin and his sharp-witted, fellow outcast neighbor Joy (Isabella Russo) to break Ernest out, uncover the mysteries of his past, and bring him the closure he needs before it's too late. This week on "Streaming Without A Paddle" Andrew and Ted breakdown their likes and dislikes of Netflix's original "We Have A Ghost". The Presley family (Frank / dad played by Anthony Mackie, Melanie / mom played by Erica Ash, Fulton / son #1 played by Niles Fitch, and Kevin / son #2 played by Jahi Di'Allo Winston) moves into their new home. Kevin doesn't share the same relationship his older brother Fulton has with their father so he's more to himself and because of such Kevin has sought refuge in the older home's very spacious attic and it's here where he first meets Ernest (played by David Harbour). Initially Ernest tries to scare Kevin, like he as apparently done with previous owners, but Kevin is unspookable! Just the opposite. Kevin takes this opportunity to actually befriend Ernest being that he feels as if he is the third wheel in the father / sons relationship dynamic. Not only does Kevin decide to befriend Ernest he wants to help Ernest get to the other side being that he is seemingly stuck in this dimension. Things go awry when Kevin's father and brother get a hold of the video of Ernest that Kevin recorded on his phone. Kevin's dad Frank, in yet another "get rich quick" scheme, posts the video on YouTube to cash in. Because of Frank's decision the world now becomes aware of Ernest and people come out of the wood work to catch a glimpse of Ernest ... including a special division within the CIA. All of which leads to a game of cat and mouse as Kevin is determined to assist Ernest in getting to the other side.

James Cameron-Wilson takes Simon Rose through the latest UK box office numbers, up 22%, largely thanks to the arrival at #1 of Creed III. Taking £5m at the weekend and starring and directed by Michael B Jordan, James found it a polished, well-directed, crowd-pleasing movie. On Amazon Prime, he found Somebody I Used To Know, starring Alison Brie and written by her and her directing husband Dave Franco, watchable but undermined by an abrupt tonal switch from comedy to heavier drama. Netflix's comedy horror We Have A Ghost he found too ambitious for its own good and most definitely over-long. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

First up, they talk Christopher Landon's foray into family friendly comedy horror with We Have A Ghost exclusively on Netflix. Then, after news, Chris and Neil snort a few rails(not really) and talk Elizabeth Banks' Cocaine Bear! They have good times. You might, too, sucka. www.moviesthatdontsuck.net https://w2mnet.com/category/podcasts/movies-that-dont-suck-and-some-that-do/ FB: facebook.com/moviesthatdontsuckpodcast Twitter: @mtdspod IG: @mtdxpod Merch: https://www.bonfire.com/store/movies-that-dont-suck-and-some-that-do/ Email: info@moviesthatdontsuck.net or moviesthatdontsuckpodcast@gmail.com

PUBLIC VERSION. Filmmaker Christopher Landon (FREAKY, HAPPY DEATH DAY, the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to discuss his career journey and the making of his latest film WE HAVE A GHOST (now playing on Netflix). From getting his start working with Larry Clark (KIDS)… to almost quitting the business after DISTURBIA… to how moving to Austin, TX helped bring him back to the career he loves… to how he got involved with the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY universe… to his knack for subverting and twisting genres… to working with David Harbour and Anthony Mackie on his new spooky heartfelt family drama WE HAVE A GHOST (which he describes as “E.T. with a ghost”)… to how he shot the complicated VFX heavy car chase in the film… to the devastating news that he received right before production began… Chris takes us through his process of finding the right formula for a good “Amblinesque” genre film and explains why he feels that blending genres should always come from a personal place.

The discovery that their house is haunted by a ghost named Ernest makes Kevin's family a social media sensation. But when Kevin and Ernest get to the bottom of the mystery of Ernest's past, they become targets of the CIA.One year after the last owners fled in terror, the Presleys are shown a house. Suspicious of the low price, the estate agent insists that recently prices have been low. On the first night Kevin, the youngest, investigates a sound in the attic. Using his mobile phone light, a ghost appears. When he fails to scare Kevin but instead gets met with a laugh, he vanishes. Kevin returns to the attic and sits down to talk with the ghost. He can't talk and doesn't remember anything about his life. Kevin calls him Ernest as that is the name on his bowling shirt. Suddenly Kevin's big brother Fulton barges in. As he's bullying Kevin for his phone, Ernest helps him. Fulton finds a video Kevin had recorded of Ernest when he first saw him and soon shows their father Frank that their new home is haunted by a ghost. Frank creates a YouTube channel, gets more video of him and, after convincing the mother Mel they could profit from him, makes the ghost and his family Internet-famous.In high school Kevin meets Joy, the neighbor. She refers to his home as the house of death. Once the video of Ernest goes viral, they cross paths in the library and Joy quickly finds that the house's owner Ernest S. lived there from '65 to '71 and is now residing elsewhere. The West Bay cable TV medium Judy Romano comes to film meeting Ernest. Kevin shows him various horror clips to help him be scarier. It doesn't take long for Ernest to scare her crew, but even Judy reacts in terror, jumping out the window. The post of the madam's reaction goes record-breaking viral. Joy convinces Kevin that they need to take Ernest out to a bar once belonging to the house's past owner to try and jog his memory. They start to uncover the truth about Ernest's past, first a photo of him with the previous house owner, then he becomes fixated on a little blonde girl in the park. However, Dr. Leslie Monroe visits Frank and Mel, telling them about an old program she ran with the CIA. Called Wizard Clip, its goal was to catch a ghost. When cost of the program was made known to the public they scrapped it, making her the scapegoat. When she tries to convince them that Ernest is dangerous, Frank throws her out. A viral video of Ernest with the girl in the park sets the CIA in motion. They break into the Presley home, but Kevin, Joy and Ernest have already left for Oklahoma to find the past house owner. The next morning the Presley's are coerced into doing an appeal to apprehend the trio. The broadcast comes on a convenience store TV and they outrun the many police cruisers chasing them.Arriving at the house in Oklahoma, the man tells the story of Randy (our Ernest), who he says became a drunk not able to cope with his wife's death from giving birth. He left his four-year-old daughter with them and disappeared. Ernest makes himself visible, and the CIA swoops in. Back home, Kevin is depressed. Frank apologizes to him, recognizing he's been selfish at the family's expense. He also tells Kevin he's a much better man than he is.In the CIA facility, an aggressive agent is wearing a pin which triggers his memory. His old friend's wife carried June away while he killed him with a blow to the head. Ernest is being acted upon for not complying, but Dr. Monroe helps him as they had had a positive interaction earlier and she senses his goodness. Ernest S. shows up at the house to kill Kevin, believing he's helping ghost Ernest get revenge. He chases him to the attic, where Ernest and Frank tackle him out of the window. The CIA interrogate Kevin, seeking Ernest the ghost. He doesn't divulge anything, but a flashback reveals that Kevin and Frank reunited him with his now 50+ year-old daughter June. Happy at last, Ernest finally is at peace and goes. The Presleys have a new moving day, but this time only a few miles away. Kevin and Joy are now a couple. As Kevin leaves the house, a light flickers in the attic. ★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★

We wanted to cover two movies that exemplify Black excellence in horror. Sure, we picked a movie from one of the most polarizing sub-genres out there, but the movie's plot had so much potential. And this week's feature is an award winning film that had a lot of buzz coming out of Sundance last year. We go in with no preconceived notions whenever we watch anything, but we knew we had picked two winners. Before we talk about the two, we discuss someone we have never talked about on our humble little podcast. Woody Allen's fiftieth movie is completed and we talk about his legacy as a director. Even before he ruined his name, were we fans of his work? What did we miss that everyone else seemed to pick up on?One of our best episodes is our look at Heaven's Gate: The Cult of Cults. The HBO documentary is well researched, informative, and shocking. With a new movie about the infamous group coming up, we talk about whether it is something we are interested in or if we have seen all that we need to.Blaxploitation pictures constantly tackled race and class, and Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde has one of the most ingenuous stories out there. The subtly named Dr. Pride is a Black doctor who is trying to create a cure for liver disease. When he experiments on himself, he becomes a white man. Kinda. It has been seen in many comedies, but rarely in serious films. The 1976 release sets the table for so much. Dr. Pride is a Black man who does not fit into a white world. He turns into a white man who does not fit in the Black world. There is are allusions to other movies that have dealt with race relations.Regrettably, it does nothing with any of these bigger ideas. So, is it enjoyable as just a regular old schlocky creature feature?Nanny was one of the biggest critical hits of last year. It won the Grand Jury prize at the Sundance Film Festival and seemed like it was set to join Sundance horror favorites like Mandy, V/H/S, and Hereditary. Since its big win, there has been little said about the movie, however.Though much more focused than Dr. Black, Mr. Hyde, Nanny is a case of missed opportunities. It introduces interesting themes, but does little with any of them. We talk about its pacing, its decision to barely use West African culture, and whether it is a horror movie or not. Adventures in Movies! is a part of the Morbidly Beautiful Podcast Network. In diesem Sinne: Hasta la vista, Baby.

His orchestral approach focuses on melody and colorful orchestration, notable in his fantasy score to THE HYBRIDS FAMILY, Best Soundtrack winner at the 2018 Oniros Film Awards, as well as in his extensive work in animation. Many of Wallace's horror/thriller scores heavily use custom sound design created through the manipulation and mutilation of organic sound sources, creating a distinct, other-worldly yet natural sound.Wallace graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison (2008) and the University of Southern California's prestigious Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television (SMPTV) program in 2009, going on to assist film scoring icon Christopher Young (DRAG ME TO HELL, SPIDER-MAN 3). Zuiker (creator, CSI), including a collaboration with Academy Award winner Robert Legato. After scoring the indie hit SHADOW PEOPLE in 2012 for director Matthew Arnold (EMERALD CITY), the pair made their network television debut on the critically acclaimed NBC thriller/drama SIBERIA. Other long-time collaborators include director Ilya Rozhkov, whose groundbreaking virtual reality action film AGENT EMERSON uses an intense and ambitious score seamlessly blending acoustic and electronic elements, featuring world-class cellist Tina Guo.Connect with the Film School'd Podcast:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/filmschooldInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/filmschooldpod/Twitter: https://twitter.com/FilmSchooldPodYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdgrswiL4AGviAOcbzfYCAwContinue the Conversation in the Official Film School'd Discussion Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/filmschoold
