What if your purpose wasn't a single moment… but a series of them? What if it wasn't something you missed—but something you've been living all along? In this premiere episode of The Modern Culture, Cari Kenzie and Leah Roling open the conversation around purpose, leadership, and what it really means to build a culture that reflects who we are—not just what we do. Together, they share the stories and moments that shaped their own leadership journeys and unpack how purpose compounds over time, experience by experience. More than just personal reflection, this episode sets the tone for the mission of The Modern Culture—a movement built on the compounding interest of all its parts: every story, every stakeholder, every member who chooses to lead differently. You'll hear: Why the traditional “find your why” narrative doesn't serve modern leaders How purpose evolves through reflection, healing, and courage The turning point when leadership shifts from fear to love An invitation to bring your team—and yourself—into a new kind of leadership culture This isn't a highlight reel. It's real leadership, lived and shared. Welcome to the compounding interest of purpose. Welcome to The Modern Culture.  Watch here: https://youtu.be/rB67p_wAf5c

What if you could create mind-blowing improvements in your performance and life with minimal effort every day? Simon & Schuster, 2003.Kaizen is closely associated with Lean management and Six Sigma, frameworks widely used to reduce waste and improve efficiency. For more on these, consider reading Lean Thinking by James Womack, which gives an in-depth look into how these concepts can help businesses grow and thrive.Einstein's Quote on Compounding InterestThe attribution of the quote “Compounding interest is the eighth wonder of the world” to Albert Einstein is widely debated, and there's no definitive evidence that he actually said it. Whether or not Einstein said it, the principle behind it is incredibly powerful. By making small, consistent improvements—just like compounding interest—you can see exponential growth in almost any area of life.Compounding Interest and 1% Daily ImprovementIf you improve by just 1% every day, that adds up much faster than most people expect. Over the course of a year, those 1% gains can compound into something like 37 times better performance. While this example simplifies things a bit, the principle of compounding is key here. It's about getting a little better each day and letting those gains multiply over time.Pareto Principle (80/20 Rule)Sanni, Anthony. The 80/20 Way to Productivity: Do More by Doing Less. Anthony's Book: The Law of The Vital FewAt 80/20 Productivity, we believe in focusing on the few things that make the biggest difference. This idea is based on the Pareto Principle, which tells us that 80% of our results come from 20% of our efforts. To dive deeper into this, check out The Law of The Vital Few which breaks down how you can apply this rule to everything from work to personal growth.

My conversation with Steve Hoffman was deep and engaging, largely due to his eloquence and profound self-reflection. Steve is a Minnesota tax preparer and a French-loving food & wine writer. I don't know if one person has ever been both of those things. His writing has garnered significant recognition, winning multiple awards, including the prestigious 2019 James Beard M.F.K. Fisher Distinguished Writing Award. His work has been featured in Food & Wine, The Washington Post, The Minneapolis Star Tribune, and Artful Living. His first book, A Season for That: Lost and Found in the Other Southern France, was published this year.  Steve doesn't consider himself retired, but he's already figured out that even in the present, you can start walking toward your future. He knows who he is, who he wants to be, and where those two things don't yet line up. I admire his tireless effort to become a better version of himself.  Open a bottle of French wine, cleanse your palette, and get ready to imbibe some happy retirement wisdom from Midwest Francophile Steve Hoffman. 00:00-Introductions 04:44-A Rediscovery of Old Loves 06:32-An “Oscar” in Food Writing 12:16-Tennis for Longevity 15:08-An Ideal Retirement 18:12-Still: The Art of Noticing 20:17-Couch Time 27:36-Compounding Interest in Happiness 33:23-A Home Base to Return To 40:51-Retirement is an Extension, Not an Escape 43:13-A Transitional Character 49:07-Busyness as a Distraction Learn more about your ad choices. Recorded in: Paddington, Sydney Poem - "I hung my washing upside down" I hung my washing upside down, and the clouds winked at me. They've been upside down before, they know this confusion. I hung my washing outside to dry, and walked my socks in a puddle. My socks have swum before, this feeling is no illusion. I set my alarm for seven, and the blinds smirked at me. They've slept in before, they know the temptation of warmth. I snoozed my alarm four times, and forgot I boiled the kettle. My kettle has been forgotten before, it knows how to settle. I ate breakfast with no-one watching, and the flowers started dancing. They've heard these songs before, they know this beat and flow. I ate breakfast whilst my journal stared, and didn't share a bite. My journal can hear my thoughts talking, ideas to unlock and know. I walked down the stairs in a new way, and the concrete wanted to join. They've never tried these moves before, they know very few shapes. I walked down the stairs with eyes closed and took a chance on life. My life talks with all that isn't me, always keeping me out of strife. Hey witches, are you ready to unlock the magical power of compounding? This enchanting tool sits at the core of Warren Buffet's astronomic net worth - and in our episode, it's going to work for you! We pull some key insights from Morgan Hausel's book, The Psychology of Money, to help you unravel the mystique of compounding and understand its incredible power. And, we promise - by the end of this episode, you'll be wielding this tool with the finesse of an experienced sorceress.Next, we're journeying to the fascinating world of Milankovic's theory, drawing enchanting parallels between earth's climate changes and your potential wealth growth. Seemingly small shifts in Earth's tilt can trigger ice ages - similarly, small changes in your investments can lead to staggering returns. It's like dating the ‘stable guy', it might not always be glamorous, but it's reliable, and over time, it can lead to something monumental.Lastly, we're brewing a compelling thought experiment around time and investing. Using Warren Buffett's success as our magical cauldron, we'll stir in the factors of time and patience to give you a clear understanding of the massive wealth disparity between him and Jim Simmons, despite the latter generating higher returns. As we wrap up, we'll reveal how you can cast your own wealth spells on our Witches of Wall Street website, harnessing the power of compounding interest. So, gear up witches, and let's embark on our global mission to create more wealthy witches together!

We all have our own savings goals and dreams of retirement, but difficult markets and high inflation can be quite discouraging. Sometimes it feels like you'll never achieve what you've hoped for. So what's the secret to building wealth and reaching those goals? In this episode, Laura Stover, RFC® is joined by Darlene Tucker, CFP® and Kyle Davis who will break down an article about a path to $10 million and what it takes to reach a milestone like that. For many people, that might seem completely unattainable, but there are steps you can take now to maximize growth and get the best returns on your money.    The key to building long term wealth is consistency, having a plan, and identifying a destination you want to achieve. The numbers show that over time if you have an average rate of return that you're comfortable with and a consistency in investments, the total returns emphatically produce favorable results. There will always be bumps in the road and issues to navigate, but with a good plan, you can overcome those things. In today's episode I talk about something that has been at the cornerstone of my personal growth in all areas of my life! Before I couldn't put words to it in the way I'm able to now looking back over the last 5-7 years of my life. Today's podcast is all about the power of compounding growth over a long enough period of time to achieve the results you're truly after. The struggle most of us face in today's day and age is that waiting for something to happen seems foreign in this instant gratification world we live in. Today I'm going to share a story I had with a fellow coach who was struggling with balancing her career and her soon to be first child. She was questioning whether she should even still coach or not and comparing herself to other lady coaches in the industry who had children and went straight back into work and whether that's something she truly wants or is it something that she is getting pressured into doing from society and the fitness industry. I shared an example of how people wanting business success at all costs is the same as someone wanting to get jacked in the gym as fast as possible so they resort to steroids but don't realize the ramifications that come with a choice like that. Much like most people don't realize the true cost of rapid business success or success in any area for that matter. So I talk about in this podcast the same answer I gave her which was to expand your time horizons and focus on 1% gains and recognize how much the power of compounding will get you what you want without costing you all your energy and life in your early and mid 20s. I hope you enjoy the podcast and if you did please follow this channel for more episodes like this and share on your social media so your friends and family can take these lessons with them as well!  -Chris

Have you ever wondered why smaller teams feel much more personal than larger teams, even when they've only been together for a short time? Compounding might have something to do with it. Compounding is a term that's often used in investing. It's the principle underlying the exponential growth of the value of an investment portfolio. Earnings from previous investments are reinvested and are used to generate extra income. Sometimes called the hockey stick principle, where an investment grows slowly but starts to speed up over time. I realized that this principle also applies to teamwork. https://jorrit90.medium.com/the-compounding-interest-of-smaller-teams-91074105b474
