Most farming families have a good year, watch the money come in — and then quietly wonder, sometime in March, where it all went. Not because anyone was reckless. Not because anyone wasn't working hard. But because profit without a plan doesn't stay put. It gravitates toward whatever's urgent, whatever's default, whatever no one got around to deciding. In this mini episode, Ben Law — The Financial Bloke — puts a name to something that happens quietly on farms across the country: the gap between what a family earns and what it actually decides to do with that money. It's a gap most families don't even know exists until they sit down and look at it.Ben shares the single clearest signal he's found in high-performing farming families — something that separates the ones genuinely building wealth across generations from those working just as hard and getting a fraction of the result. It's not about scale, location, or what the season did. It's about one conversation. And whether your family is having it.He also unpacks the four-bucket framework he uses with clients — a simple but surprisingly confronting way of thinking about where profit should go. What makes it confronting isn't the framework itself. It's the exercise at the end: the moment when family members who thought they were on the same page realise they've each been operating off entirely different assumptions about what the money is actually for.If the next generation in your family feels like they're not quite at the real table yet — or if money conversations tend to get started and never quite finished — this one's worth eleven minutes of your time.If this podcast has ever added value to your farming business, we'd love for you to leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.https://pod.link/1598835360-----------------------Ben Law is a coach to some of Australia's most successful farming families. What separates the farming families who build something that lasts from those who simply survive? If you're honest about it, the answer rarely comes down to rainfall averages or commodity prices. It comes down to the decisions made by the people running the show — and the mindset they bring to every one of them.Tim McGavin grew up off-grid in western Queensland, raised by a semi-literate father who could barely read but understood hard work, thrift, and responsibility better than most MBA graduates ever will. From aerial mustering in the outback to founding Laguna Bay — one of Australia's most respected agricultural investment funds — Tim's path was never linear, never planned, and never easy. But it was built on a foundation that very few people talk about openly: knowing who you are, thinking for yourself, and being willing to make decisions when no one's watching. In this conversation with Ben Law, Tim gets refreshingly direct about what it actually takes for the next generation to step into a life worth leading — whether that's on the land, in business, or somewhere in between. What should ambitious young people in agriculture be doing with their twenties that most of them aren't? What does it really mean to back yourself when the conditions are bad and the pressure is on? And when it comes to succession, what's the conversation that simply has to happen before a next-gen kid comes home to the family business — and what goes badly wrong when it doesn't?Tim also unpacks his involvement in Marcus Minds, a free online high-performance resource born out of a real problem at Marcus Oldham Agricultural College. The principles behind it aren't reserved for elite athletes or Formula One drivers — they're the same fundamentals that help any person, on any block of ground, make better decisions and build better habits over time. What does high performance actually look like when you strip it back to what matters? Tim has a very clear answer, and it might surprise you. There's also a broader conversation here about the kind of thinking that produces long-term wealth and resilience — avoiding groupthink, understanding your own psychology, developing financial literacy, and learning to read the economic conditions that will shape farming families' futures in the decades ahead. Tim doesn't sugarcoat it. He sees both the opportunity and the threat clearly, and he's worth listening to.This is one for the young people heading out into the world — and equally for the generation handing the reins across. This is the last episode of the Wealth Wisdom Financial podcast. And it's exactly the right place to end. Amanda and Brandon have been doing this since 2017 — longer, if you count the coffee shop days. Grandma's Wealth Wisdom. Business Activist Entrepreneur. Wealth Wisdom Financial. Every name got closer. None of them quite said it. In this episode, they tell the full story: a bus ride in Nicaragua the week Amanda turned 40. A coaching program and a book called The Star Principle. A question asked to a billionaire on a Zoom call. Seven words that finally unlocked everything — "The name needs to speak to your strengths." That's how Counterflow came to be. Their whole story is countercultural. They grew up on public assistance. They opened a coffee shop in Chicago's South Loop that wasn't what the neighborhood expected. They built a financial practice around principles most advisors won't touch because they don't sell well. The financial system was built to move money away from people like them. They've spent twenty years reversing that flow. The name finally says that out loud. Everything they've built now lives at livecounterflow.com. The new podcast is Live Counterflow — find it wherever you listen, or subscribe at livecounterflow.substack.com. Same people. Same phone number. Same philosophy. Same weird. Markets are behaving in ways that don't seem to match the headlines. Conflict in the Middle East, the Strait of Hormuz under threat, oil briefly pushing $120 a barrel, inflation creeping back, interest rates moving the wrong way — and yet equity markets keep printing fresh all-time highs. If you've been watching your superannuation balance climb while quietly wondering what on earth is actually holding the whole thing together, you are not alone. In Episode 126 of The AgriCoach Wealth & Wisdom Podcast, Ben Law sits down with David Berthon-Jones, Chief Investment Officer and Founding Partner at Aequitas Investment Partners, for a candid conversation about what's really driving global markets right now — and what intergenerational farming families need to be paying close attention to as they think about long-term wealth, off-farm investments, and succession planning across decades, not quarters.David manages and advises on roughly eight billion dollars of client capital, and he brings a refreshingly honest perspective to a moment that most commentators are either talking up or shouting down. He and Ben get into the AI capital expenditure wave fuelling the so-called Magnificent Seven, the quiet accounting questions underneath those valuations, and why the panic that used to follow geopolitical shocks seems to have evaporated at the index level — even as individual stocks get punished savagely. They also turn the lens home to Australia: rising fuel prices, stubborn inflation, a Reserve Bank with fewer levers than it had six months ago, the housing affordability question that other comparable countries have already started answering, and the productivity backdrop that every primary producer is feeling on the ground. For farming families thinking decades ahead, the conversation moves into the territory that really matters. How should off-farm wealth be structured when valuations are rich and the macro picture is murky? Where does cash, fixed income, and genuine diversification fit when growth assets have done all the heavy lifting? And what's the single most common mistake David sees in self-directed portfolios that quietly undermines a family's succession plan before the next generation even gets a look at the books? Ben and David also touch on the lessons from the dot-com era, why Warren Buffett is sitting on an extraordinary cash position right now, and what that signals to patient capital with a multi-generational horizon. If your family balance sheet stretches across the farm gate and the share market, and you want a clear-eyed read on what's worth worrying about — and what's worth ignoring — this is an episode worth your time. Tune in for a grounded, thoughtful conversation about protecting and growing family wealth in a market that's quietly daring everyone to look away. She walked Valentino runways at $10,000 a day, built a media career that spanned some of Australia's biggest brands, and was awarded Gold in Fashion & Textiles and Silver in Agriculture & Farming at the Women Changing the World Global Awards in London, 2025. And then she moved to a sheep station in Walcha, New South Wales. But here's what makes Vanessa Bell's story genuinely worth your time: this isn't a fish-out-of-water tale about a city woman finding herself on the land. It's a masterclass in what happens when someone with serious commercial firepower looks out across a paddock and asks, what is actually possible here?Vanessa is the Founder and CEO of her eponymous Australian luxury knitwear brand — crafted from Merino wool grown on her own property and produced with leading Italian mills. A Woolmark Licensee and RWS-certified wool grower, she works at the intersection of fashion, agriculture and sustainability, and champions natural fibres as the future of luxury. She also hosts the Fashion to Farmer podcast and speaks internationally on traceability, regenerative agriculture, and the global value of Australian Merino wool.In this conversation with Ben Law, she gets into the real thinking behind building a business that operates at both ends of the value chain — from what happens in the shearing shed all the way to the global consumer. What made her walk away from a career that had taken her from the runways of Tokyo and Vienna to the boardrooms of Sydney? What does it actually look like to grow wool fit for purpose — and then partner with one of Italy's most exclusive production houses to turn it into a globally recognised luxury knitwear label? How do you build a brand that refuses to discount, holds its value over time, and is designed to last a decade? And what does Vanessa believe is the real difference between farming families who talk about diversifying and those who actually do it?There's also a pointed conversation about what farming families might be leaving on the table — not because they lack opportunity, but because of the way they think about what they produce and where their role in it ends. Vanessa challenges that thinking directly. And if you're part of the next generation on the land, or a farming family wondering whether an ofIf this podcast has ever added value to your farming business, we'd love for you to leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.https://pod.link/1598835360 The High Performing Families Roadmap Workshop — 26th & 27th August 2026, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast. What if the most underutilised tool in your family business isn't a piece of machinery, a management software, or a new hire — but a structured room full of the right people, asking the right questions? In this episode of the Agricoach Wealth & Wisdom Podcast, Ben Law sits down with Mike Logan AM — farmer, business coach, and one of Australia's most respected advisory board chairmen — to unpack why some of the most successful family businesses in agriculture have quietly adopted a structure that most farming families have never even considered: the family advisory board.Mike brings rare credentials to this conversation. He didn't come from a boardroom — he came from the paddock. A cotton and beef farmer who once stretched his balance sheet to breaking point to build something bigger, Mike knows what it means to make high-stakes decisions with no-one in the room but yourself. That hard-won experience eventually led him from farming to chairing advisory boards across Australia and internationally, and it gives him a perspective on family business that few advisors can match. This conversation goes well beyond the concept and into the mechanics — how these boards are structured, why they work, and what stops most families from ever getting the benefit of one. Mike shares the framework he uses to run every board meeting, why he's obsessed with cash over profit, and what the single biggest trap is for any family that tries to run a strategic conversation without the right structure in place. There's also a moment in this episode that farming families with the next generation coming through will want to pause and replay — a candid exchange between Ben and Mike about what it actually takes to transfer wisdom from one generation to the next, and why leaving it to chance — or to osmosis — could be one of the most costly assumptions a family ever makes.Whether you're running a multi-generational enIf this podcast has ever added value to your farming business, we'd love for you to leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.https://pod.link/1598835360 The High Performing Families Roadmap Workshop — 26th & 27th August 2026, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast. Most farming families see their accountant once a year — usually in a panic around the 30th of June. The families who are genuinely building something that lasts across generations? They're doing something fundamentally different. And it has very little to do with tax minimisation. In this episode of the AgriCoach Wealth & Wisdom Podcast, Ben Law sits down with Sarah Becker — Director of Becker & Co QLD, Chartered Accountant, Trusted Rural Business Advisor, and Central Queensland beef producer — for a conversation that cuts through the noise around what it actually takes to build a rural family business that goes the distance.Sarah is one of those rare professionals who lives both sides of the fence. She runs a multi-generational accounting practice her family founded 40 years ago, and alongside her husband Rob, she's raising the next generation on 16,000 acres in the Dawson Valley. When she talks about intergenerational wealth, succession, and the role of a trusted advisor, she's not speaking theoretically. What separates the families who thrive over decades from those who stall? Sarah has a clear answer — and it's not what most people expect. She and Ben pull apart the difference between having a dream and having a plan, why the most important financial conversations rural families need to have are rarely happening, and what it really means for your advisor team to be "on the bus."They also tackle some of the harder questions that come with building wealth on the land: what's the actual cost of leaving the next generation out of the conversation? Why do so many high-performing producers treat strategic planning like it's optional? And what does a healthy, productive rhythm with your accountant actually look like throughout the year — not just when June rolls around?Sarah shares a framework for thinking about profit allocation that goes well beyond reinvesting back into the business, andIf this podcast has ever added value to your farming business, we'd love for you to leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.https://pod.link/1598835360 The High Performing Families Roadmap Workshop — 26th & 27th August 2026, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast. What if the thing holding your family business back… isn't lack of opportunity — but lack of exposure? In this conversation with Kara Knudsen, co-founder of a rapidly scaling northern cattle operation, we get a rare look at what actually happens when a farming family decides to think bigger, act earlier, and deliberately build something that outlasts them.Kara shares the story behind their growth — from humble beginnings and hard seasons to building a business that no longer relies on family labour to survive. Along the way, she challenges the traditional idea of what a “family business” should look like… and replaces it with something far more resilient. You'll hear how they've approached developing their next generation — not through entitlement, but through responsibility, exposure, and real-world experience. Why stepping outside the farm gate can completely reshape how you see your own business. And what changes when you stop reacting to challenges… and start preparing for them. There's also a deeper thread running through this episode — around discomfort, decision-making, and the moments where things could go either way. The kind of moments most families face… but few talk about. If you've ever wondered how some families seem to grow, adapt, and stay aligned while others stall… this one will get you thinking. If this podcast has ever added value to your farming business, we'd love for you to leave us a rating and review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.https://pod.link/1598835360 The High Performing Families Roadmap Workshop — 26th & 27th August 2026, Mooloolaba, Sunshine Coast. In this podcast episode, Dr. Jonathan H. Westover talks with WiLL R. Young about his book, The Enough Equation: Wealth, Wisdom, Virtue, and the Pursuit of Less. WiLL R. Young is a behavioral finance expert and practicing Stoic philosopher. The Enough Equation: Wealth, Wisdom, Virtue and the Pursuit uses a modern parable and principles from Stoic philosophy and behavioral psychology to explore how to define "enough" and find contentment. The book combines a narrative with wisdom to question our modern, often story-driven relationship with money, which it argues is influenced by beliefs and behaviors, not just math. It encourages readers to pursue less to achieve greater fulfillment. Check out all of the podcasts in the HCI Podcast Network!

The ancient world possessed wealth creation secrets so powerful that entire civilizations thrived for millennia using principles we've completely forgotten. While modern financial education teaches us to work harder, save more, and invest smarter, our ancestors understood something far more profound - that true wealth flows according to universal laws that operate beyond mere strategy and effort. You see, there's a reason why ancient Egypt's prosperity lasted over 3,000 years while modern economies collapse every few decades. There's a reason why traditional societies created abundance that sustained entire communities, while today we have more financial information than ever before yet most people still struggle with money. There's a reason why some individuals seem to effortlessly attract wealth while others work twice as hard for half the results. The ancients understood that wealth isn't just about what you do - it's about how you align with the fundamental forces that govern abundance itself. These weren't abstract philosophical concepts taught in temples. They were practical, tested systems used by Egyptian merchants, Hindu traders, Sufi mystics, and Celtic druids to create sustainable prosperity that lasted generations. But here's what's fascinating: this knowledge wasn't lost by accident. When great libraries were destroyed, when ancient civilizations fell, when traditional wisdom was replaced by modern systems, something profound was buried along with it - the complete understanding of how wealth actually works at its deepest level. Today, you're going to rediscover what your ancestors knew. I'm going to reveal thirteen forgotten wealth laws that predate every modern financial system, every contemporary economic theory. These laws work because they align with how the universe actually operates, not just how we've been taught to think about money.

I had a staff member that was never showing up for work. Their Grandma died, like a hundred times. Also the till would be off by about 50 bucks whenever she would be working. I was drinking half cups of coffee all day long and felt like this place was killing me. I felt like I needed to slow down. I went to the hospital and they said I had anxiety and high blood pressure. They said I needed to stop drinking coffee and slow down. I said I can't do that. That was an indicator to me that my body was saying, something's up. I got rid of that staff person and then my blood pressure went back to normal. It was being self-aware that helped me. I realized that I need to go exercise more and be out in nature more. That was a big turning point for me. Thoughts On Breathing My wife is always telling me to take a deep breath and to do the inhale-exhale thing. I do take walks every morning and try to get my 10,000 steps everyday. In a business sometimes I feel like we can go too fast and we just need to stop and breathe it in.
