Send us a textStepping into the spotlight this week is our very own Max Fosberg, fresh from his graduation at Seattle Film Institute. In this deeply personal conversation, Max opens up about the transformative journey of pursuing film education in his mid-thirties—a decision that initially felt "almost silly" but ultimately proved profoundly rewarding. The discussion reveals fascinating insights into the practical realities of student filmmaking, where location often dictates creative direction. "I think the first thing that I figured out for each idea was location," Max shares, explaining how his vampire film "Nightstock" grew from having access to a park, while other projects emerged from available spaces like a brewery. This resourcefulness represents the true spirit of independent filmmaking.Beyond technical skills, Max reflects on how film school reshapes one's relationship with cinema itself. He now studies lighting with particular fascination, noting how flat lighting in CGI-heavy productions often diminishes visual impact compared to the masterful shadow work in classics like Sidney Lumet's "Fail Safe." The conversation explores the vulnerability required when sharing creative work, the collaborative magic of production days, and how acting experiences enhanced his ability to communicate with performers.Perhaps most moving is Max's recognition that the relationships formed during this journey matter most. From his Film Institute cohort to the broader Seattle film community, these connections have become the true measure of success. "It's not about the movies," he reflects. "It's really about the relationships." As Max prepares for new adventures in Los Angeles, his story serves as powerful inspiration for anyone considering their own creative leap—regardless of when in life that call comes. What makes a truly successful filmmaker? Listen as we explore how passion, persistence, and people create the foundation for meaningful work in this challenging industry.Support the show

Wet Change finished fighting their enemies, and returned to fighting each other! Del forced Shadow Nemesis to drop his axe, and Tyler stowed it away before using the brief moment of calm to talk Werner into possessing the empty doll. In this episode of the Solar Maverick Podcast, Benoy interviews John Williams, CEO of Virdi. Virdi designs and builds fail-safe battery energy storage systems with on-demand, affordable power for many different uses. John speaks about their innovative fail-safe battery technology, the opportunity for energy storage, and his entrepreneurial advice. Virdi is revolutionizing the way energy is used and stored with commercial-scale lithium-ion-based energy storage systems certified for installation in occupied spaces. Benoy Thanjan Benoy Thanjan is the Founder and CEO of Reneu Energy and he is also an advisor for several solar startup companies. He has extensive project origination, development, and financial experience in the renewable energy industry and in the environmental commodities market. This includes initial site evaluation, permitting, financing, sourcing equipment, and negotiating the long-term energy and environmental commodities off-take agreements. He manages due diligence processes on land, permitting, and utility interconnection and is in charge of financing and structuring through Note to Proceed (“NTP”) to Commercial Operation Date (“COD”). Benoy composes teams suitable for all project development and construction tasks. He is also involved in project planning and pipeline financial modeling. He has been part of all sides of the transaction and this allows him to provide unique perspectives and value. Benoy has extensive experience in financial engineering to make solar projects profitable. Before founding Reneu Energy, he was the SREC Trader in the Project Finance Group for SolarCity which merged with Tesla in 2016. He originated SREC trades with buyers and co-developed their SREC monetization and hedging strategy with the senior management of SolarCity to move into the east coast markets. Benoy was the Vice President at Vanguard Energy Partners which is a national solar installer where he focused on project finance solutions for commercial scale solar projects. He also worked for Ridgewood Renewable Power, a private equity fund, where he analyzed potential investments in renewable energy projects and worked on maximizing the financial return of the projects in the portfolio. Benoy also worked on the sale of all of the renewable energy projects in Ridgewood's portfolio. He was in the Energy Structured Finance practice for Deloitte & Touche and in Financial Advisory Services practice at Ernst & Young. Benoy received his first experience in Finance as an intern at D.E. Shaw & Co., which is a global investment firm with 37 billion dollars in investment capital. He has a MBA in Finance from Rutgers University and a BS in Finance and Economics from the Stern School of Business at New York University. Benoy was an Alumni Scholar at the Stern School of Business. John Williams Jon M. Williams is the CEO of Viridi, a point-of-use energy technology company that is revolutionizing the way energy is stored and used, leading the way to a zero-carbon energy future. Prior to founding Viridi, Jon owned and managed OSC Holdings, Inc. a group of companies in the US and Canada that focused on Environmental Remediation and Redevelopment of former industrial sites. Jon's commitment to using the power of business to address the interconnected systems of economic inequality, environmental degradation, and climate change was inspired by his hometown, Niagara Falls, New York. The many abandoned factories there served as reminders of Western New York's rich history as a thriving manufacturing center for the world and of the devastation to lives and land caused by their abandonment. Most of all, these empty factory towns motivated Jon to help bring them back to life in a way that serves everyone who lives there. Grayce Toon is a writer and actor. She's starring in Phil Carroll's Failsafe, set to premiere at The Tank in New York City on December 8th. A contemporary take on grisly last ditch efforts, Grayce describes this play as pitch black comedy. In this episode, we get to know Grayce, the character she plays, and discuss our love of the living an intellectual life without getting too intellectual. This episode is about two great films on the same dark theme: David talks to American historian Jill Lepore about Stanley Kubrick's Dr Strangelove and Sidney Lumet's Fail Safe, which appeared within a few months of each other in 1964. Both films explore what might happen if America's nuclear defence system went rogue. One is grimly hilarious; the other is utterly terrifying. Brothers J and Eric discuss the 1964 Sidney Lumet film Fail Safe, a bleak warning against nuclear weapons controlled by computers. It's full of great actors and, while it is basically the same premise as Dr Strangelove, it is NOT a comedy. For today's great political film David discusses Luchino Visconti's The Leopard (1963) with the Italian historian of ideas Lucia Rubinelli. How did a communist aristocrat from Milan come to make a film about a Sicilian prince? How did Burt Lancaster get cast in the leading role? Is this a political film or a film against politics? The U.S. Congress is preparing for the possibility of a major “mass casualty event” that could dramatically change its makeup. With recent assassination attempts, rising geopolitical tension, and increasingly heated public discourse, lawmakers are considering drastic steps, including a possible Constitutional Amendment that would allow for the direct appointment of House representatives in the event of mass vacancies. Furthermore, the Russian government has announced changes to its nuclear doctrine due to NATO's encroachment and U.S. policies. It's time for Americans to do some serious soul-searching, put away their biases and their identity politics, and see what is happening. The certainty of a New World Order seems to be moving faster. Tonight on Ground Zero (7-10 pm, pacific time) Clyde Lewis talks with military analyst, Sean Patrick Hazlett about FAILSAFE – MASS CASUALTY CONTINUITY OF GOVERNMENT. Sydney Lumet's Fail Safe (1964) is time capsule of nuclear paranoia, and a powerful allegory for the dangers of technology getting out of hand. Starring Henry Fonda as the President put in an unwinnable situation, he only has so long to stop a deadly nuclear accident. In order to stop the chain of events that increasingly seem inevitable, he must make some disturbing choices, and ask who's lives are worth sacrificing. Can you tell our listeners what the Horizon Experiment is all about? We understand it started over the debate of Idris Elba as James Bond. Tell us a bit about that.- Do you feel that dream movie would still disappoint? It's an in-depth look at the first issue of Absolute Power by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Alejandro Sanchez, Ariana Maher and company. We detail the shocking plans put forth by the Trinity of Evil (Amanda Waller, Failsafe and the Brainiac Queen) and along the way we speculate outcomes, question motivations, point out obscure character mentions, and more!
