As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another. -Proverbs 27:17 Our guest today on Strong By Design is Aaron Walker, the founder and visionary for the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind group. A group dedicated to helping people live a life of success and significance. If we are honest with ourselves and truly on a journey of self-improvement, to get better every day personally and professionally and to remain motivated to put in the work, one thing is for certain… We need to lean on people we trust to keep us on the narrow path. This is not necessarily about the bank account, the possessions and the celebrity that comes with most success. This has more to do with finding true fulfillment, purpose, and identity in yourself along the way. When you are surrounded by people who know you deeply and you lean into their wisdom, truth, and strength, you unleash your greatest superpowers. “I came home with a pocket full of money to a house full of strangers... I don't want that happening to other business people, and I want to go on a quest to help people understand that you can have great success and significance simultaneously.” -- Aaron Walker Time Stamps 00:00 – Redefining success: Identifying what matters most to you 01:06 – Welcome to the 'Strong By Design' podcast 03:48 – Meet today's special guest, Aaron Walker of ‘Iron Sharpens Iron' mastermind group 05:54 – Aaron shares how he got into the business industry, and a tragic accident that changed his life 13:35 – Discover how his mastermind group got started 17:57 – What is a mastermind group, and what makes ‘Iron Sharpens Iron' different? 25:14 – The power of accountability 35:30 – Are you a giver or a taker? 43:55 – The importance of community groups and why it matters 50:46 – Level up: Aaron on why you should invest in yourself 54:04 – Aaron shares one of his client's powerful testimonies 1:02:36 – Where you can go to learn more about ‘Iron Sharpens Iron' Resources: ViewFromtheTop.com Connect w/ Aaron: Instagram Facebook YouTube Connect w/ CriticalBench: Youtube Facebook Instagram CriticalBench.com StrongByDesignPodcast.com

How do you handle being wrong? How do you handle screwing up something? It's really tough to show your cards, isn't it? You know the easier route is to just keep it to yourself… Until it becomes the harder, more hand-cuffing route. Culture wants to tell us that vulnerability and transparency are a sign of weakness. In reality, they're a sign of strength… They show that you want to get past whatever has slowed you down… They show that you want to GET BETTER. Don't believe the lie that you're weak if you're transparent about your weakness. In today's episode of Coming Up Clutch™️, I summarize the Top 3 nuggets from Monday's interview with entrepreneur, author, and founder of the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind, Aaron Walker. How tough is it for you to show others you're failing in something?... Especially when the people around you think you have it all together? I went through a tough stretch where, for almost four years, I was failing in so many areas of my life, but to everyone on the outside, I was living the best life. So, what did I do? I went into hiding. If someone asked me the classic, “How you doing?” I'd respond with the fake, “Doing great.” As each day went by, I dug myself deeper into the hole of isolation. And, man, was that a dark place. In today's episode of the Coming Up Clutch with J.R.™ show, entrepreneur, author, and founder of the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind, Aaron Walker, gets real about isolation and what we can do to make sure we never let this excellence-killer lurk in our lives. In this latest episode, Aaron and I talk about… How to handle being blindsided in life Why masterminds and peer groups are imperative for your success How to keep family in your front seat while you're in a demanding career …and so much more. If you want to stay on the road of life and career excellence, then lock in to today's episode. [00:01 - 08:42] Introducing John to the show Aaron's most embarrassing moment Aaron's background and his professional journey [08:43 - 25:47] How to handle being blindsided in life Isolation is the enemy of excellence We're designed to be in community. We weren't designed to be in isolation. Strength begins at the intersection of vulnerability and transparency - that's where you get people to truly to walk with you They help you get awareness of your blindspots The value of being in community comes from the perspective of other people that care about you Go find 1 or 2 people, bring the GOOD, BAD, UGLY, and ask them to help you pick up the pieces It takes a lot of work to maximize our life, that includes non-biased, trusted advisors calling you out on your BS Find people who love you enough to tell you the truth - “we need people that love us enough to say the hard things” [25:48 - 35:48] Why masterminds and peer groups are imperative for your success The success of some of the biggest influencers are because they committed themselves to going week-in-and-week-out subjecting themselves to the scrutiny of other people You don't know what you don't know WE ALL NEED A TEAM We're only seeing things one way, through OUR lens. Need others to expand our view. If things are GREAT now, they're not always going to be that way “We need people around us all the time that ‘we can aspire to be like and then we need to look back and be the mentor for the people coming behind us” You can go fast alone, but you can't can't go near as far without a tribe [35:49 - 42:42] How did you make sure family & marriage didn't go by the wayside while you're in a high stakes career Put guardrails around me / boundaries NO pictures with women while on the road Have accountability partners - meet every Monday AM with my group and they know everything about me When children wife/call me - I always make myself available Money is important. Don't make it your God. Can't be the only reason why you're doing what you're doing. Parents: You don't get a DO-OVER. Prioritize your priorities and really focus on the things that matter and make the income that you need to live a good life. Don't get those two reversed. [42:43 - 46:05] Kids and disappointment God put us in control of our kids for a reason We have to work really hard to say YES always, but sometimes we have to say NO. No is a complete sentence. BEST ADVICE: You have to be consistent. If you're not consistent, you're wasting your time (you confuse your kids otherwise) Must read book: Stolen Focus by Johann Hari It's OK for our kids to be disappointed - as a result, they build grit, determination, and perseverance Can't always come to their rescue [46:06 - 48:26] Wrapping Up Aaron's BIG domino How to connect with Aaron KEY QUOTES “Isolation is the enemy of excellence.” - Aaron Walker “We're designed to be in community. In this episode of the Aww Shift Podcast, Anthony Trucks talks with Aaron Walker. He is an Entrepreneur and Life Coach who has inspired many through his leadership, mentorship, and consistent pursuit of excellence. He enjoys helping others, and believes experience is a great teacher. 40 years of entrepreneurship and marriage have given Aaron a wealth of experience. Aaron continues to reach new heights and broaden his terrain by examining his experiences and growing from them. Today, he will share the life-changing experiences that made him the man he is today and how the term "Iron Sharpens Iron" becomes a catalyst for you to be with the right people. Why should we listen to you? [6:44] 41 years of experience and 14 businesses to my credit. I retired when I was 27 the first time fortune 500 bought me out, and I feel like I've got a few nuggets of wisdom to add. Do your kids ever take your path? [7:23] My oldest daughter is the chief operating officer of our company, so she took this path, and I got another daughter, a stay-at-home mom, and taking care of three beautiful children. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't, but we've never forced any of our kids. They've worked all of our businesses throughout their life and taught them. Still, they had plenty of opportunities to do whatever they wanted to. What's question should somebody should ask you? [8:49] People come to me all the time and ask how they can make passive income. Whatever it is like, it's hard work. That's what you got to do to get there, and the people that come to me with that mentality, I'm teaching them how to make money. Not only that but also how to live a meaningful life. The Changing Point [13:09] I started looking outward instead of inward. I started being a giver and not a taker. Here's what's happened over the past 20 years. We've been twice as successful financially as I've ever been in my career, and I'm a lot more significant because I'm helping other people accomplish what they want. That is the very reason that I have Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind. Spending time with the right people [14:25] Why is it that the majority of people have to have this major moment? It's because we're not paying attention. The truth is we're intelligent beings. We don't have to go down that path to make the right choice. We need to be much more deliberate in spending the time with people that can help us take us to the next level, walk with us, and do not allow us to do stupid things financially. [15:21] When you have that camaraderie, team spirit, and people that's got your back, that's really applauding your superpowers, but they're really calling out your blind spots, and they're pointing out your Achilles heel, these are the people that can help take you across the finish line. The True Value [16:25] The value is not necessarily the facilitator that's leading the group. The value is in the collective energy of the group. We've got to be willing to subject ourselves to the scrutiny of this group of people. You might not have it all together in whatever niche market that you're in. Still, there are certain attributes that God's gifted you with that you can help other people. We are not alone [18:19] It's because of that collective energy. We can't do this alone. We need people for resources, encouragement, and accountability, and these people can do that. When you get into these groups, you do have something to offer everyone. You have value that you can add to other people. Don't let that timidity keep you from getting in a group to where you could really take your life to the next level. Sharing the Secret Sauce [19:32] You got to willing to be into a group that you share the similar core values because if you don't have similar core values, you can never reach a general consensus. You've got to have similar core values. You've got to be willing to be a giver, not a taker, and where you have a roomful of givers, you'll get all the resources you want and everything you need. If you're a giver, you can't hold your cards close to your vest and not be willing to share the secret sauce. Iron Sharpens Iron [21:56] You want to have the same core values. You don't want to have opposite core values. You want to have somebody who's willing to go for it. We call our group Iron Sharpens Iron, and that's exactly what it is. It's one man's sharpening another or one lady sharpening another. [22:17] You've got to be looking for people that are willing to commit. You can't just show up periodically because you got to get caught up when you do, and now you're behind. [22:59] It's about what you can bring, it's about your experiences. Being a giver is one of the things that we are really looking for. [23:11] You've got to have a vision, a mission statement, a purpose, and meaning in your life. The transformation [24:38] I would not be in a group for 21 consecutive years every week. I've been in a group, and so there's no way I wouldn't be in a group. A transformational experience for me has been I was very arrogant and egotistical because I was a poor kid from Nashville, Tennessee, and I didn't have any money. I was broke and a convict when I was 18 years old. [25:36] I quickly realized that I needed to come down a notch, and I needed to figure out that you don't go on these journeys alone. Nobody is successful on their own. We just need people around us. [26:00] It keeps me grounded daily because I have this huge amount of accountability around me at all times. So I can't even begin to tell you the success I've had financially because of it because of all the doors that opened, the resources and people that I meet. There's been so much insight that has been given to me, people that I know care about me because they're willing to meet with me. Aid in Success [28:04] With this stuff that's going on right now is what opportunity does this present? How can we be different? How can I use this as being something that's a catalyst for a new opportunity? When you start getting around other people that give you ideas, you start bouncing this. It's huge to aid in our success as we go through this. Get honest people [29:26] In these masterminds, you never want a partner, and you never want a family member because they're biased naturally. I suggest that you get a group that has nothing to gain or lose as a result of giving you an honest answer. What promise did God make to the world when He created you? [32:29] If you get around him, you'll never be encouraged in the way how he can encourage you. Key Quotes: [8:01-8:06] "Just just give them an opportunity and let them choose the path they want to take." [16:59-17:06] "We're all bunch of knuckleheads, and we're just trying to figure it out. We need people around us to help us go to that next level." [18:46-18:49] "Don't rob the world of the gift of you." [21:14-21:19] "No matter how hard you try to see things a different way. You only have one perspective." Nation! I am so excited to introduce you to the man who leads my weekly Mastermind group, Aaron Walker. Aaron Walker has founded more than a dozen companies over the past 42 years. He attributes much of his success to having surrounded himself with his Mastermind counterparts. Aaron spent a decade meeting weekly with Dave Ramsey, Dan Miller, Ken Abraham, and other outstanding entrepreneurs. Aaron is the founder of Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind that now hosts 20 groups with National and International members. Aaron lives in Nashville, Tennessee, and he has so many wonderful stories and advice to share today! As you know, I lead several Mastermind groups myself. A large reason I can pour into other leaders in the water treatment industry is because of the individuals I meet with weekly in the Mastermind group. Aaron says to think about a Mastermind as "Your own personal board of directors" who help you personally and professionally. Life is way too difficult to do it alone. We are built as human beings to work with other people. I've found that joining a Mastermind can help you grow through vulnerability, coaching, honesty, and camaraderie. If you are a water treater interested in joining a Mastermind, please visit my Scalinguph2o.com/mastermind to learn how together we can raise up the water treatment industry. In a world where so many are seeking their place in it all, entrepreneur Aaron Walker learned early that prioritizing the pursuit of significance increases your impact and value-added to other's lives ten fold. People who want to grow and scale their business. 2:26 Problem Aaron helps solve: Isolation is the enemy to excellence, and we help to eradicate isolation. We need accountability in our life, we need resources, we got to have people who have innovative perspectives on new ideas. So, I just want to surround myself with what Jim Rohn said "I want to be the average of the 5 people I spend the most time with" and you know as well as I do that we need those people around us to help us make intelligent decisions. Especially in the light of the current circumstances and situations that we face today, we have never been here before. We need very confident people to help us work through those challenges. 4:07What are some of the common mistakes that folks make before finding Aaron and his solution: A lot of the times, people don't have experience with the framework that you need in order to enlist competent people. We built the framework on the 'Mastermind Playbook' and it helps you really identify people with strong core values, people that have a mission statement, people that are looking to grow not only for monetary reasons but they have a greater purpose in life. We help formulate that and we organize to a manner that which you could grow, scale and develop your company with a greater purpose in mind. A lot of people want to get people around them, but they don't really know how to articulate the type of person they need around them. There are people out there everywhere but we want people that are willing to go for it. People who are not necessarily adverse risk. People who are willing to form some type of risk because you wouldn't be a small business owner if that weren't the case to begin with. So, we just help to vet those person to get people on board that have the same missions and goals in mind like you do. 5:19 Aaron's Valuable Free Action (VFA): A lot of people are afraid; I deal with people all the time. I even asked Robin recently "why is everybody so afraid?" it's time to go for it because if you want to live, you got to go for it.

Dave Lukas, The Misfit Entrepreneur_Breakthrough Entrepreneurship
This week’s Misfit Entrepreneur is Aaron Walker. Aaron is an almost 40-year entrepreneur veteran. He started his first business at 18 and sold it by his mid-20’s to a Fortune 500. He went on to start over a dozen other businesses and started Masterminding 20 years ago with people like Dave Ramsey, Dan Miller and others. This led him to start the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind group – one of the most renowned and successful groups of its kind. Aaron is also the author or the best-seller “View from the Top – Living a Life of Significance.” Aaron has seen it all, done it all, and has succeeded through grit and determination. But what also has made him so successful and one of the biggest reasons I wanted him to come on the show and to share his wisdom with you, is his straight forward authenticity. Aaron teaches in way to easy to understand, learn, and implement. And it’s the lessons he’s learned in building businesses and Masterminds that I've asked him to give you in this episode. www.ViewFromtheTop.com Aaron has lived in Nashville his whole life and has built all his businesses from there. He grew up poor in an 800 sq. ft. house with 4 kids. His dad was a general contractor, but not a great business man. Aaron started working at 13 and fell in love with business and decided that he was going to be an entrepreneur. He put in extra studies and night school and graduated at the beginning of his junior year. He met some people with money to invest and opened his first store. He got married 2 weeks out of High School and he and his wife went on to build several success companies – selling the first one at 27 years old to a F500 company. That gave him the ability to do some other things and set him up financially. He then went back and bought the company he worked for at 13 and grew it by better managing it and better selling the services. He was 40 years old, working 3 days a week. He had it made. One morning he was driving to the office and a pedestrian stepped out in front of Aaron’s truck and was killed. His life came to a halt. Aaron wasn’t at fault, but when you are responsible for the death of someone, it changed everything. It devastated Aaron. He couldn’t handle the stress and the knowledge that, even though it wasn’t his fault and he was not arrested or anything, a man died by his truck. It ate him. Over the next few years, he sold the business, took 5 years off, moved to a different area, sought counseling, and really changed most of his life. One day, his wife came in and told him he had to get going and do something. Aaron had gained almost 50 pounds. So, he did. He started a construction company, built it to great success and sold it at 50, retiring. At that point, Dave Ramsey and Dan Miller suggested that he coach. He started helping other entrepreneurs and doing Mastermind groups and is now launching his 15th Mastermind in 8 different countries. What do you think is the reason God/the universe, etc. put you in the situation with killing the pedestrian? What was your biggest takeaway after years of thinking about it? At the time of it happening, you don’t see anything that can come up. You just think your life it over. It was a total blindside that disrupted his entire life for years. The truth is that we are all just one second away from being blindsided in some way. Our life can change in a Nano-second. Here’s what he learned. His legacy would have been – Poor kid form Nashville, makes enough money to retire by the time he is 27 and nobody really cares. Aaron realized that he had no significance. His life was not impacting the lives of others. He asked God for another chance and promised the act outward instead of inward. To that point, it had been mostly inward. Now, he hopes to be remembered by people as “my life was different after having known Aaron.” He thought about it and said that to himself you can do both – you can both success and significance. Define what significance means to you and for others… Each person must identify what success means. For Aaron, it the ability choose his schedule and how he runs his life and being financially independent. Money is a great thing if it is not your master. Having a clear conscious is critical. We can be content, but not complacent. Don’t ever be complacent but seek contentment in what you do. You also must have meaning and purpose. Lastly, Aaron wants to leave a legacy of wisdom. Significance is a different thing. To Aaron, significance is meeting the needs of others. Focusing on them and being present with them, truly listening. It means taking the time, even when you are busy, to sacrifice and help others. At the 25 min mark, Aaron talks about “Gratitude Day…” What are your best principles and thoughts on how to succeed in business? People must get over their sense of fear. The 18/30/60 rule. When you’re 18, you think everybody’s talking about you. When you’re 30, you find out it’s not true. When you’re 60, you don’t care. Read the book The Big Leap and learn how to push through those “upper limit challenges.” You also must have a written plan for how you are going to reach your goal and what you are going to do. Then all you have to do is execute. Focus on the task and not the goal. Establish 3 goals every 4 weeks. Be consistent. It takes a certain length of time to reach critical mass in anything you are doing. Delay gratification. There is real truth in the statement that you are the sum of the 5 people you spend time with. The wrong people are an anchor around your success – get rid of them. Get people around you that encourage you, hold you accountable, point out your blind spots, give you the truth, and support you and help you. Great minds talk about ideas, small minds talk about people! What are some of the key components of a successful Mastermind Group? You must have a genuine group You must have a set of shared core values It must be consistent (weekly, monthly, etc.) It needs to be all encompassing. 60% professional, 30% personal, 10% spiritual is how Aaron’s groups breakdown. How does someone start a Mastermind group and find the right candidates? You must first decide on your core values and make sure you group is built on them. Nowadays, virtual groups are easier and allow for more transparency. You must determine what it is you want to accomplish with the group and be clear on it. One word of caution for “in person” groups. Go slow and give info over time to see if they can be trusted. Don’t give everything out right away. Decide on the type of group you want to have. Men or Women focused, gender neutral, etc. You can buy the Mastermind Blueprint book from Aaron. At the 49 min mark, Aaron shares some final pieces of wisdom… When Aaron was growing up, his mom would tell them not to use the word “can’t.” She would say “Can’t couldn’t do it and could did it all.” Build a mindset of “you can.” Find ways to do things. Fear missing an opportunity more than you do failure. Failure is in NOT trying – NOT in being unsuccessful because you tried. Best Quote: “Can’t couldn’t do it and could did it all...” Aaron's Misfit 3: Show empathy and be empathetic to those around you. Be transparent to a fault – with a few. Authenticity is the thing people are starving for the most – be authentic.

We all need positive people in our lives that will hold us accountable and support us in our lives and journeys. Having an intimate group of people that can help us reach our goals is so empowering, both professionally and personally. Steve is joined by founder and CEO of View from the Top, Aaron Walker. An accomplished author and CEO, speaker, life and business coach, Aaron shares about his powerful, Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind groups, how to live a successful and significant life, and about calling on those positive relationships to reach your goals. In life, we all need support and accountability in our journey. A successful thriving entrepreneur knows how important their ‘tribe’ is. Listen in as Steve shares his motivational talk with Aaron Walker with you.
Aaron Walker is a life coach, author of View From The Top, Living a Life of Success and Significance and currently runs ViewFromTheTop.com and the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind. Aaron works with men to help them become the best versions of themselves, which is something I also have a deep passion for and can relate to his mission. Aaron is seriously one of the most genuine guys I've ever met and you can't help but instantly like him. His smile is contagious and if you've seen any of his videos, you'll understand exactly what I mean. Our conversation focused on the importance of relationships in business and why he says that has been the key to his successes over the years. He shares why he gives so much value for free and the fact that he's been interviewed almost 1,000 times demonstrates that well. He loves to help people succeed and readily spends his time doing so. In fact, he tells the story of a man wanting to join his mastermind program solely for the reason of copying his methods and using them to build his own business. Aaron's response? "Absolutely! I'll show you everything I know!" This speaks volumes about the type of man Aaron is and I see why his business is thriving. He has an interesting backstory as well and he's built 12 successful businesses, retired at an early age, and was all set to kick back and relax. That is until a close friend of his told him it was the most selfish thing he'd ever heard him say. So he unretired (a few times actually) and started a coaching business, which he does full-time now. We spoke about the power behind building a tribe and why it's so critically important for us, as men, to be part of one. One of the reasons he and I both do our work through groups exclusively is because the accountability and support we get from being around like minded men can't be replaced. Aaron strongly urges any man who is looking to level up some aspect of his life to seek out a tribe, accountability group, or mastermind because he's seen the sheer impact is has. Aaron also talked about one of the things that has led to his success and that's having a growth mindset versus what many of us have, and that's a scarcity mindset. Aaron is living proof that the more you give, the more you get. While many of us are out hustling to make a buck and figuring out how to convert leads into sales, Aaron is solely focused on helping others succeed. And as he helps them succeed, his success tracks along with it. I actually loved the conversation I had with Aaron and I walked away from the call feeling empowered. One of my biggest frustrations with online business is that there are so many sales gimmicks and Aaron is a perfect reminder that we don't need to fall into the trap of chasing dollars. Instead, we need to focus on building relationships.

We all need margin in our lives. Accountability and trusted advisors are necessary to keep yourself in check. The idea of balancing life and work is a myth, things don’t need to be equal. The thing you need to do is prioritize your priorities and focus on what’s important. You have to be an inch wide and a mile deep. What are the three or four things that are really important to your life? If you’re not careful, you’ll come home one day with a pocket full of money and house full of strangers. You have to spend an inordinate amount of time on the things that are important to you. You only have one vantage point to see things in your life. Other people will have other filters you can use to see solutions that you can’t see. They can also help you see your blind spots. Starting at the Beginning Aaron almost lost his family because he was focusing on his business too much. There are seasons in your life and sometimes you need to focus deeply on work, but not all the time. Money is a tool, you need to value it but not make it the ruler of your life. The internet affords us so many opportunities now that it’s hard to choose what to do, this means that many people lack clarity. Passion is an exhaustible resource, you need to have purpose if you are going to do anything long term. The more you teach and give away, the more that comes back to you. If it gives you energy, there is purpose at the end. If it drains you, it’s not your passion. How can you add value today to other people’s lives? If you are intentional about it, you can build your work around your lifestyle. Getting perfect clarity before you launch is a mistake. Getting the courage to get something going is the hardest part. There are so many opportunities to make money today, just find something you enjoy and get some mentors or coaches around you, then do it until you want to throw up. It takes 1 to 2 years to get a business going so you need to be committed. The Top 3 Success Traits The process is what’s important. You don’t rise to the level of your goals, you fail to the level of your processes. You need systems and processes to automate, eliminate, or delegate. Is something takes you an hour a day, you have to be willing to take 30 hours to teach someone how to do that task. But if you do that, you will achieve a massive return on your time. What could you do with that hour back every single day? You can get back money but you can’t get back time. Why write books? There are a lot of opportunities to learn today but books have some unique things about them that make them special. Books give you an

It would be safe to say that Aaron Walker is a veteran entrepreneur. Having started over a dozen businesses during his four-decade journey has been pretty awesome. Beginning at 18 years old and selling to a Fortune 500 company just nine years later set Aaron on an adventure of a lifetime. The secret sauce for Aaron can clearly be identified with these four attributes: grit, authenticity, determination and perseverance -- and the glue that holds it all together is his weekly involvement in Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind groups. Aaron started masterminding 20 years ago with Dave Ramsey, Dan Miller and several other notable Nashvillians. Today, he spends time with his wife, two daughters and five grandchildren. Coming In and Out of Retirement Aaron has had the opportunity to do something that many people has not been able to -- to retire and come out of retirement for a staggering eight times. He’s been working since he was thirteen so he kept telling himself that he’d retire after just one last venture -- although we all know how that went. It was during one of those retirement attempts that Dave Miller told him something that he’d never forget that eventually changed the course of his life. Starting a New Chapter When Dave Miller found out about his nth retirement option, he called it “a selfish move.” He said that the world needs mentors, and by retiring a “final time,” Aaron is keeping other people from benefiting from the wealth of knowledge and experiences he has accumulated over the years. Dave then invited him to do “Innovate” (a coaching program) and handle its Entree Leadership Mastery course. He initially thought it was not a bad deal considering how it was easily worth $10,000 at that time, but, surprisingly, he enjoyed the gig a lot more than he thought he would, and attendees of the event even called him later to ask him to mentor them. Dave encouraged him to give it a go, he did, and the rest is history. Living a Life of Significance You’d think someone who’s had a very colorful business career as Aaron has wouldn’t have any room for doubts, but when the idea of writing what would eventually be his book, View from the Top: Living a Life of Significance, was pitched to him, he didn’t really want to do it because he thought that no one’s going to read it. However, Ken Davis, author of ‘Fully Alive,” changed his mind by telling him that he’s writing for the wrong reason. That even if only one person’s life changed for the better because of his book, then it’s definitely worth it. Working for the Greater Good “Do for a few what you wish you could do for everybody,” so says one of Aaron’s favorite quote, and he does try to live by this tenet as much as he can -- applying it not only on his personal life, but on his business as well. [Text Wrapping Break][Text Wrapping Break]“People think we need to do multiple things to be successful, but we just need to narrow our focus.” Look at the greater good and find ways to make the most impact on the most number of people possible. Maintaining Razor-sharp Focus Aaron says that “If you’re really going to be successful, you need to have extreme focus.” The problem is people tend to put too much focus on the goal instead of focusing on the task at hand -- leaving them even more distracted than ever. To avoid this trap, Aaron recommends taking things one step at a time. Set your priorities, plan your course of action, then implement. If you keep working on each task with the same razor-sharp focus that you use on the others, you’ll exceed the goals you’ve set before you even realized. Dealing with High-Stake Situations Of course, this is something that can sometimes be easier said than done, especially in situations where important things are at stake; however, no matter what the problem is, Aaron says that communication is always key, and to do that, you need to develop a level of empathy. “People only remember you for how you made them feel.” Every conversation has something of value to add, so take time to listen to what other people have to say. Expressing Gratitude Aaron can say this because he’s a living example of how much you can learn from other people regardless of whether you’re actively trying to do so or not. Because of this, he’s been able to look forward to each and every day because of its potential to change someone’s life -- and for that, he’ll always be grateful. Favorite Book Like many others in the expertise space, Aaron highly recommends “How to Win Friends and Influence People” by Dale Carnegie. He explains this is because it teaches people how to genuinely care about others and it should be required reading for everyone Resources Aaron is one of the driving forces behind the Iron Sharpens Iron Mastermind Group and you can join it by visiting https://ironsharpensironmastermind.com/.
