There’s nothing quite like slipping into a sturdy, yet comfortable pair of jeans for work on casual Fridays, or even when out shopping on a Monday night. To understand why, we have to turn the clock back more than 170 years to California during the Gold Rush. Back then, miners and labourers in the American West worked under punishing conditions, and their work trousers often ripped at the points of greatest strain, particularly around the pocket corners, where heavy tools and equipment were carried. Then came the day, May 20, 1873, where dry goods merchant Levi Strauss and tailor Jacob Davis obtained a US patent on putting rivets in men’s work pants for the very first time. The rivets made the pants dramatically stronger, and durable enough for miners, labourers and cowboys who needed clothing to withstand punishing conditions. And with that, the first riveted clothing – a pair of jeans made using denim – was made and sold. And the rest was history. More than a century on, modern day jeans are more than just workwear, and continue to make waves in the fashion world. The same goes for Levi’s the company too. Since returning to the public markets in 2019, the firm has been actively transforming its business through high-profile marketing efforts, pushing higher margin direct-to-consumer sales, and actively attracting women customers. In July 2026, the firm reported second quarter net revenue of US$1.56 billion, an 8 per cent increase on the year. The apparel maker now expects its fiscal 2026 net revenue to grow between 7 and 7.5 per cent, higher than the 5.5 per cent to 6.5 per cent forecast previously. Growth was also seen across all regions, with a 9 per cent on-year increase in net revenues for its largest market, the Americas. For Asia, that figure stood at 10%. But how does the firm assess its performance as a whole, and how far will it double down on its business in Asia? What are the key opportunities in the region, and how is the firm positioning denim as a to-go fashion choice given the younger generation’s interest or obsession with athleisure wear? In this “On the Go” Special episode of Under the Radar, finance presenter Chua Tian Tian headed down to Levi’s Singapore flagship store at ION Orchard to get the answers from Vicky Skelton, Managing Director, East Asia Pacific, Levi Strauss & Co.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Bedazzled Jeans & Grease Thieves: A Comedy Conundrum!

The Rizzuto Show

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 7, 2026 63:21

Some mornings you wake up expecting coffee and headlines. Other mornings you discover there's an underground criminal empire built around stealing used fryer grease, somebody is trying to convince the world that rhinestone jeans are cool again, and Rizz has created an entirely unofficial list of ages when society should politely ask you to stop doing certain things.Welcome to another daily comedy show. This episode starts close to home as the crew talks about local St. Louis news, including Cyberg's Market Street closing after decades downtown, a rash of overnight vehicle break-ins, and why leaving valuables—or firearms—in your car is probably a terrible idea. Naturally, that serious conversation immediately derails into fake stick shifts designed to confuse thieves, mounted muskets, car guns, and inventions that definitely belong on Shark Tank. Then things somehow get even weirder. The crew dives into one of the strangest federal crime stories imaginable: a multi-million-dollar operation involving stolen restaurant grease. Yes... used cooking oil. Apparently yesterday's french fries can become today's organized crime. Between fake paperwork, undercover grease deals, and criminals wearing safety vests to look legitimate, it's almost impressive... almost.Fashion doesn't escape the roast either. Is America really entering another bedazzled era? Are Ed Hardy vibes back? Are JNCO jeans making another run? Lern believes the sparkle has returned, Rafe embraces the chaos, and Rizz refuses to accept that grown men are voluntarily decorating their back pockets with rhinestones. The debate spirals into cowboy fashion, Von Dutch hats, whale tails, and whether anyone should willingly relive the early 2000s.Speaking of questionable life choices...The gang revisits Bryan Johnson—the tech millionaire spending millions every year attempting to reverse aging—after news of his autoimmune diagnosis. The conversation turns into a hilarious debate over supplements, youth fighting, biohacking, overnight health tracking, and whether spending your entire life trying not to age actually counts as living. As if that weren't enough, Rizz unveils his completely scientific (not at all scientific) "Tell the Truth Day" list of socially acceptable expiration dates. At what age should you stop calling everyone "bro?" When should backwards hats retire? Is there an age limit for staying out until sunrise? The crew argues every single rule while listeners undoubtedly yell back at their speakers.Throw in celebrity obsession, social media insanity, relationship debates, bizarre inventions, random tangents, plenty of St. Louis flavor, and enough sarcastic commentary to make your coworkers question why you're laughing at your desk, and you've got another unforgettable morning with The Rizzuto Show.Whether you're listening on the drive to work, pretending to work, or actively avoiding responsibility altogether, thanks for making us part of your day. This daily comedy show exists because of listeners who appreciate ridiculous conversations, terrible ideas, and the occasional accidental moment of wisdom hiding beneath all the nonsense. If you laughed, argued with Rizz, defended bedazzled jeans, or immediately started wondering how much used fryer grease is worth, congratulations—you've officially experienced another daily comedy show the way it was intended.Follow The Rizzuto Show → https://linktr.ee/rizzshow for more from your favorite daily comedy show.Connect with The Rizzuto Show Comedy Podcast online → https://1057thepoint.com/RizzShow.Hear The Rizz Show daily on the radio at 105.7 The Point | Hubbard Radio in St. Louis, MO.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Sebastian and Pete recap their time in Vegas which included a visit to the Sphere, time at the pool and cranking the siren at a Golden Knights game. Sebastian is concerned he might be bad luck for teams that invite him to their games. While in Vegas, Sebastian went shopping which leads in to a trip down memory lane of selling Cavaricci jeans and getting ready to go out at night. The guys react to the viral graduation speech video and kids trying to find their spot in life. Pete pulled a couple of Pete's on the trip back home from Vegas. The guys discuss airport and plane etiquette especially when someone is in a wheelchair. Sebastian's been giving out “Thank You” chocolates but the response hasn't been what he had hoped for.

You probably have a pair of jeans in your wardrobe right now that you want to love. They looked great on the hanger. They might even have looked decent in the mirror when you tried them on in the shop. But then you wore them properly and something felt off. The waistband dug in when you sat down. The seat went saggy by lunchtime. The thighs were fine standing but felt like a grip test on the stairs. That's not you being fussy. That's your jeans not fitting you properly. In this episode Roberto Revilla, bespoke tailor with over 23 years in the industry, walks you through the four areas where men's jeans almost always fail: waist, seat, thighs and rise, and explains why your “usual size” gives you a completely different result depending on which brand you buy from, or even which season you buy in from the same brand. He also gets into why vanity sizing is quietly making this worse, how brands change their patterns without telling you, and why so many men end up blaming their own bodies for a problem that was never really theirs to own.And if you've ever found yourself standing in a fitting room thinking “have I actually changed shape or has something changed about these jeans?” Yes, you're right, and no, it's not you. What's covered in this episode:•Why the number on the label tells you almost nothing about actual fit•The four failure points: waist, seat, thighs and rise, and how to read each one•Why off-the-peg jeans are cut around a man who doesn't exist•Vanity sizing, quiet factory pattern changes, and how brands get away with it•The psychological cost of jeans that never feel right•How a bespoke jeans fitting actually works, from the first conversation to the finished pattern•Why a pattern that's yours for life beats a size number every single time•Who bespoke denim actually makes sense for (and who it probably doesn't)If you've ever owned 15 pairs of jeans and not really liked any of them, this one's for you.Roberto Revilla is a bespoke tailor based in London.
