May 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Andy Kim's “Rock Me Gently,” a song absolutely nobody wanted to sign, produce, or play on the radio in the beginning, but here we are, being in top-rated shows, millions of spins around the world, and no stopping all these years later. The record was a massive hit in 1974, going all the way to Number 1 in the U.S. and Number 2 in the U.K. as part of its staggering four-month run on the charts. Even if you weren't alive back then to experience the song's inexorable pop pull, you've probably heard it since, on shows like Ray Donovan and Sex Education or commercials for the Jeep Liberty. And that's not even mentioning the 1989 cover by country artist Michelle Wright, nor the sample of “Rock Me Gently” that showed up in Mint Royale's “Take It Easy” 10 years later. Given its enduring appeal, one can easily forget that, at the time of “Rock Me Gently's” original release, Kim was already considered washed up in the music business. He was no longer the kid who had driven from his native Montreal to New York on a wing and a prayer to find work at the famous Brill building. The success that had followed included co-writing and singing on the Number 1 song of 1969, “Sugar Sugar” by The Archies, and shifting more than 1.5 million copies of his own take on the Phil Spector/Ronettes classic “Baby I Love You” the very same year. But by 1974, nobody wanted to know. Kim had to release “Rock Me Gently” on his own label, after turndowns from absolutely every producer and established record company he approached. In fact, it was a tough go at radio at first, but the writer who became his own producer of the song never believed in the word ‘no' to mean anything but another opportunity to create his own destiny. A variety of forces—including ever-shifting cultural currents and the death of his father—ensured that his career continued to have more than its share of ups and downs. And truth be told, it's never been in his nature to prioritize the spotlight of personal glory over the work anyway. But when you've touched so many people with your songs—your song in particular, the one with your name on it, that you put so much on the line to record and release—your fans won't let you fade into obscurity. At age 77, Kim finds himself in the enviable position of being hailed as an elder statesman of pop while enjoying a newfound relevance to contemporary audiences. “I Forgot To Mention,” his 2004 collaboration with one of those aforementioned fans, Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies, got him named the Best Solo Indie Artist of the Year during Canadian Music Week. That paved the way for “comeback albums” like 2010's Happen Again and 2015's It's Decided, the latter of which put Kim on the Arts & Crafts label with hip latter-day artists like Feist, Chilly Gonzales, The Stills and Stars, thanks to Kevin Drew, founder of Arts & Crafts, showcasing his admiration for the iconic artist's timeless music. This collaboration brings together two generations of Canadian music talent, bridging the gap between past and present in the indie music scene. Drew's decision reflects not only his business acumen but also his deep appreciation for Kim's enduring musical legacy. And every year, his Andy Kim Christmas Show raises big money – over $2.5 million so far - for Toronto charities, thanks in part to support from a roster of talents that's included Broken Social Scene, Metric, Maestro Fresh Wes, Sarah Harmer, Sam Roberts, Lights, Rush's Alex Lifeson, Finger Eleven and Ron Sexsmith. Kim's name now hangs in a veritable mansion's worth of hallowed halls, including the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and Billboard's Hit Parade Hall of Fame. He also has his own spot of Canada's Walk of Fame. And last year, he received the ultimate honor by being made an officer of the Order of Canada, for his irreplaceable contributions to the cultural landscape of his country. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/east-coast-dna/message

Today is Thursday, January 25th and Happy 8th Birthday to Fine Young Cannibals guitarist Andy Cox. ***01.25.24 – BIRTHDAY – ANDY COX*** I'm Dan Radcliffe and here are the stories Cobb is talking about, presented by Credit Union of Georgia. Family Raising Funds After Mother of 4 Killed in Cobb Kennesaw Man Accused of Vehicular Homicide Marietta Army Supply Store to Close After Almost 70 Years Plus, Bruce Jenkins sits down with Leah McGrath from Ingles Markets to discuss economical snacking for kids. All of this and more is coming up on the Marietta Daily Journal Podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen and subscribe! BREAK: CU of GA STORY 1: Family Raising Funds After Mother of 4 Killed in Cobb In Marietta, the family of Melinda Jolly, a mother of four killed by an abusive boyfriend, is raising funds on GoFundMe for her three children and their new caretakers—Melinda's brother Tommy and his wife Stacey. Melinda moved to Georgia with her children after her husband's death in 2019. The fundraiser, organized by Melinda's sister Pamela, has raised over $20,000 of a $50,000 goal. Melinda was in an abusive relationship, and her family had requested welfare checks. Unfortunately, she was found dead during the last check. The alleged murderer, Charles Cook, had a history of endangering the children. Pamela fondly remembers Melinda as a kind and compassionate person. Those interested in donating can visit the [GoFundMe page](https://www.gofundme.com/f/in-memory-of-melinda-jolly). STORY 2: Kennesaw Man Accused of Vehicular Homicide In Kennesaw, a 71-year-old man, Allan Craig Johnson, is accused of causing a fatal collision. Johnson, driving a Chevrolet Trailblazer, allegedly failed to yield to a Jeep Liberty driven by Randall Riggs while entering Dallas Highway. The collision resulted in Riggs suffering a fractured femur and multiple injuries. The medical examiner, Dr. Christopher Gulledge, opines that the injuries, captured on video, along with heart disease, contributed to Riggs' death. Johnson faces charges of second-degree vehicular homicide and failure to yield, both misdemeanors. He was arrested and released on $5,720 bond. STORY 3: Marietta Army Supply Store to Close After Almost 70 Years After nearly 70 years, Hodge Army Navy, Cobb's iconic military surplus store, is closing. Founded in 1955 by John W. Hodge, it initially sold decommissioned tools from Lockheed. Post-9/11, changes in military camouflage technology affected their business. Owner Paul Earls adapted by sourcing from veterans' estates and abandoned storage units. The store, a staple in the community, served diverse clientele for decades. The closure is attributed to the shift towards online shopping, making it challenging for brick-and-mortar stores. Hodge Army Navy provided unique services, including recreating uniforms for veterans' burials. The store's Marietta location gained fame as a filming location for shows like "Stranger Things." Hodge Army Navy will close its doors for good after almost 70 years in business. We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.799.6810 for more info. We'll be right back Break: ESOG – GCPS STORY 4: Flood Watch for Cobb Through Friday The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch for north Georgia, including Cobb County, with an expected 2-4 inches of rain from Wednesday night to Friday night. An active weather pattern will bring multiple rounds of rainfall, with higher amounts possible in isolated areas. Rain chances are 80% on Wednesday, 90% on Thursday, and 70% on Friday. Motorists are advised to be cautious of standing water on roads due to potential flash flooding. Temperatures will be in the 60s through Saturday, with no freezing temperatures. The forecast indicates 61 on Wednesday, 68 on Thursday, 66 on Friday, and 67 on Saturday. STORY 5: Chattahoochee RiverLands Project Approved for $3M State Grant The Georgia Board of Natural Resources approved funding for 13 land conservation, restoration, and parks projects, including $3 million for the Chattahoochee RiverLands Regional Trailhead in Cobb. The funding will develop a park at the corner of Mableton Parkway and Discovery Boulevard. The Trust for Public Land envisions the RiverLands Gateway Park as a key access point for the region, with a neighborhood park feel. The project includes ecological restoration, green infrastructure, woodland restoration, a parking lot, restrooms, entry plaza, trail connections, kayak launch, and boat ramp. Over $21.4 million for these projects comes from the Georgia Outdoor Stewardship Fund, approved by voters in 2018. The list now awaits final approval from Georgia House and Senate budget subcommittees. We'll be back in a moment. Tonight's guest, Kirk Reed, is an experienced Dogman investigator who is also the cohost of the Abnormal Investigations Podcast. Kirk has had encounters while he was investigating Dogman sightings and at times when they weren't even on his mind. One of the most intense encounters he's had happened while he was sitting in his Jeep Liberty. It was brand new, and he had just driven it to his friend's house, to show it to him, when the encounter happened. The next thing Kirk knew, he was eye to eye with a Dogman that had jumped over his hood. It was standing less than 30 inches from him, staring at him, intently. That's not the only intense Dogman encounter Kirk's had. We hope you'll tune in and listen to him share the details of other encounters he's had and after you finish doing that, we hope you'll listen to tonight's new episode of My Bigfoot Sighting. On that show, I brought Kirk on so he could share the details of the encounters he's had with Sasquatch. One of the things he told us about on that show was the time when a juvenile Sasquatch grabbed him and then went on to do something that gave him injuries he's still dealing with, present day. Tonight's guest, Kirk Reed, had his first Sasquatch-related experience in 1977 and they've continued until present day. Of all the experiences he's had with them, one stands out in his mind as being the most profound one. You see, one night, while he was sleeping in the back of his Jeep Liberty, a juvenile Sasquatch walked up to him, grabbed him, and caused injuries that Kirk still suffers from, present day. Due to the experienced he'd had with cryptids, in 2017, Kirk founded a research team, with a friend, called Northeast Cryptid Investigations. Have we been looking at CRMs all wrong?Jasen Rice, our guest on Auto Collabs, thinks so. Jasen is a veteran of the industry. He was selling 100% online at a time when AOL was still mailing Internet CD-ROMs to homes. Consequently, he's helped launch Digital Dealer, vAuto and much more. In his conversation with Paul J Daly and Kyle Mountsier, he dives deep into CRMs, conversion rates and a new way of thinking about leads. What we cover in this episode:4:00 Jasen started working in the industry in 1997 and was selling exclusively online by 1998. He shows the guys his Microsoft CarPoint Certification from back in the days.18:13 CRMs aren't looking at the right metrics. Jasen blows up some of the ways that CRMs use age of vehicle and age of lead in ways that simply don't make sense.24:37 In Jasen's mind, the Used Car Manager and Internet Director are the same person.“The Used Car Manager needs to be your Internet Director. They need to understand every lead and be just as responsible. I pull it up all the time. I said, “Guys, what would you do if a customer was in your showroom for 10 minutes and no one said ‘hi'? You would throw a chair through the window. But here's five leads that no one's called for 14 days, 10 days and 8 days. What do you do about that?”27:10 The power of switches.“A lot of times when you get a fresh car, we price it up 104-105%. We wait for photos to get done. So of course, we're not getting much activity on this car. But I'm showing dealers, you got a three day old car that you're at 105%. Fair enough, but you have no leads, but you got 10 switches, you got 10 Other people right now that you could call. They are interested in the segment in this price range, they don't need to know you're 105%. That Escape sold, will they take this Jeep Liberty? And even though it's 105%, it's still within their segment in their price point. So it's like your best salesman that sees the nice trade that came in yesterday, and he's on the phone with five people and he has it sold before it goes to the service department. Right? That's what you need to be doing with this too. There's opportunities here without having a race to the bottom and waiting till the pictures are done to get some eyeballs on this car.”Listen to the full episode for more insights and context from our conversation with Jasen Rice⭐️ Love the podcast? Today on TRUNEWS we exclusively report that a man named David Starofsky had an RV and Jeep Liberty parked at the convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein’s New Mexico Zorro Ranch the day that he died. We also speak with Cibola County Sheriff Tony Mace about the potential of a local posse of law enforcement officers raiding the property and how residents can convene a citizen’s grand jury to hand down indictments against other high profile players in what appears to be the largest state-backed blackmail spy operation in modern history, spanning the better part of three decades, and entrapping the who’s who of international politics. We’ve been sharing travel tips and some of our great travel experiences with you. Today, we are doing something a bit different. We are sharing the actual four-day itinerary of our Southern California trip. In this trip, we had a great time and managed to see a lot in a very short amount of time. We spent some time in LA, a day in San Diego, and even made it South of the Border in Tijuana. People often ask how we do so much in such a short amount of time. It really comes down to planning. We wanted to get the most out of our trip, so we were very mindful of the time we had. If you want to make a similar trip, we share what we did each and every day, If you don’t want to plan, you can just follow our itinerary to get the most out of your trip. Show Notes [02:25] We took this trip from Indianapolis. We knew we would gain a little time, because we were going from Eastern Time to Pacific Time, so we left early. [03:25] If your flight is longer than three hours, upgrade if you can. [03:58] We had our nephew LJ with us. We were a party of five. [04:44] We had been to New York, Chicago, Florida, and we were trying to find somewhere in the US to go. We decided to go to California. [06:04] We arrived at LAX. We rented a Jeep Liberty. It was a little cozy in the back for the kids. You may want to make sure, you are able to get a larger car if you have multiple people. [08:42] We knew San Diego was only a couple of hours away, so we decided to go there too. [09:25] We stayed at the Hampton Inn SeaWorld location. We had two double beds and a sleeper sofa. [10:02] We took the Pacific Coast Highway out of LA to San Diego, and made a stop at Manhattan Beach. [11:43] We had lunch at In-N-Out Burger. We drove up in to the hills and took some amazing pictures. We left that day open to explore and not have to rush. [14:02] You have to give yourself flexibility when you have a plan. [14:48] We got to San Diego in the afternoon and checked in at the desk. The clerk suggested we go to Tijuana. She gave Chris directions to a restaurant in Puerto Nuevo that had butter fried lobster. [16:56] We head over the border and lost cell phone service. We were in Mexico with no GPS or map. We sat outside overlooking the Pacific. A mariachi played and charged a fee. [19:52] The fried lobster wasn't the best. The sun was setting as we left. There is a line to get back into the US. [21:28] There's bumper to bumper traffic, but the line has people selling things and banging on your car windows. It was a great life lesson for the kids. [24:29] We got back late, went to sleep, and our itinerary really starts now. [24:39] We ate breakfast at the hotel and went to Sea World. They had roller coasters, and we saw the whales. There are touch tanks and shows. [26:45] Sea World has an all-day dining deal that is a great deal. It was $29.99 for adults and $18.99 for the children. [27:49] We spent a day at SeaWorld, then we headed over to the Hyatt Place in Anaheim. We had a main bedroom and then another room with a bunk bed and a pull-out couch. [29:44] We used the Go City Los Angeles card. The Go Card can be a big money-saver. [31:19] We asked the kids what they wanted to do. We went over the list of things to do and bought the Go Card at home. [33:06] It took us two hours to get to Hollywood. We went to the walk of fame, the TCL Chinese Theatre, the Dolby Theatre, and a Hollywood movie star tour on a bus. [37:14] That night they were filming the ESPYS at the Staple Center. We ate at a restaurant with outdoor seating that was right along the path where the athletes were walking, and we got to see everyone. Then we went back to the hotel. [41:25] The next day was our Universal Studios Tour. It was a lot of fun. We were also able to fit in the Warner Brothers tour. We even went on the set of Friends. [44:35] We also went into a sound effects room were they took a movie without sound and then layered in each sound until there was a cacophony of sounds. Each portion of sound is recorded separately. [45:52] We then spent the afternoon in Venice Beach and rented bikes. We were able to layer this in before heading to the airport. We even saw a man levitating. [48:35] Our flight wasn't until 10:00 pm, so we went to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles. [50:40] Quick recap: Pacific Coast, In-N-Out Burger, Tijuana, SeaWorld, Universal Studios, Warner Bros. Studios, Hollywood Movie Star Tour, Dolby Theatre Tour, ESPYS outside the Staples Center, Venice Beach, and Roscoe's. The universe will test you anytime you're attempting to ascend to a high level of consciousness. Experiences I'm sharing how the universe has tested me over the years: May 2011 - tempting me with a $1,000 gift card if I would had stayed with Target for another month vs leaving when I did March 2012 - injured my knee in indoor soccer and need to replace a $1,000 shifter in my Jeep Liberty all within a week and 3 weeks before leaving for Europe for the first time ever April 2012 - Being offered a full-time position with Wells Fargo as a recruiter and passing on the opportunity without knowing what was going to pan out with my relationship with Chad Carden at the time May 2017 (heyyyy that's like now!) - Opting out of a consulting project that would have been a solid, steady gig for the next 6-8 months, lucrative income but would have pulled me away from She Did It Her Way and not aligned with what lights me up along with my true purpose. Faith is believing in the unseen and willing to act upon the unseen. The second part is talking about having the right attitude, understanding your thoughts and how to rewire them to serve you. With the right attitude we can accomplish anything we want in life. ANYTHING. Possessing the right attitude requires 4 phases. #1 - We have to see the NEED for ourselves. After every need, ask yourself, "Why?" *Knowing our WHY behind what we do will drive us to succeed and give purpose to what we do. For example: "I need to sleep more." Why? Because it will lower my stress, make me more alert, give me energy. #2 - We have to WANT to do something. "I WANT to sleep more." #3 - We CAN do something. *We thoroughly believe we can accomplish whatever it is that we want. "I CAN sleep more." #4 - I WILL do something. *The will is our commitment to ourself. "I WILL sleep more." If we can confidently say to ourselves, "I NEED to, I WANT to, I CAN and I WILL," we will have successfully created the right attitude to move forward and turn our goals into reality. Think of 1 thing that you've been wanting to accomplish yet can't figure out why you haven't been able to do so. Walk yourself through the 4 Phases of Attitude, identify where the breakdown is happening. Remember, "Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude." - Zig Ziglar
