Tu and Lei start the podcast out with some of their family traditions for Lunar New Year. They then move onto unpacking January sales numbers and emphasizing the MoM comparisons not that important due to Lunar New Year being in January last year. Tu anticipates what we should see in March and beyond depending on how panicked the OEMs will be coming out of the New Year break, likely around late February. The goal of course is to keep the metal moving at a brisk pace of course. Tu and Lei then move over to the discussion about Evergrande, the Chinese real estate development company being forced into liquidation by a Hong Kong court and how that will affect Hengchi, their EV brand. Tu then talks about the impact that could be felt from the just announced partnership between Didi and CATL. The podcast closes with a brief clarification on export numbers and who the actual leader in global exports for passenger vehicles was in 2023.

This podcast starts with Lei's headlines but because of the break, there was ALOT to update. Tu then moves the convo over to January sales and they both agreed that it's hard to tell who did well because the month was shortened by CNY but NIO's numbers were a pleasant surprise.Tu and Lei then talk a bit about expectations for Tesla and what it'll take for them to regain their sales growth I China outside of cutting prices on the MIC Model 3 & Y. They move to discuss the recent hiring of Wang Fengying as President of XPeng and what that points to. XPeng along with several other EV makers are in dire need of getting better control of their operations and this is XPeng's way of trying to do that. Similar to Tesla's promotion of Tom Zhu, someone with the reputation of managing the teams to be more operationally efficient. Tu closes the podcast out by talking about the current charging situation in the US and what it will take for the infrastructure to be robust enough to support many more EVs and whether swapping would work there.

Total sales-tax revenue for the three months ending in January 2023 was up 9.4 percent compared with the same period a year ago. January is a tough month for most of us - it's especially tough if you work in sales, either as a sales leader or in business development. January is usually a time for rate increases. It's also the time of year that buyers and prospects can easily avoid your calls - which leads to no meetings for the month. Unless you have planned. Seasonal mood swing compounded by dark and cold mornings and evenings. Failed resolution making. No time to get to the gym. The boss is highly charged and rejuvenated after a long fortnight off over Christmas. It can be hard to get the engine started, lack of enthusiasm, motivation, inspiration, energy. In this podcast, I talk about one of the challenges facing sales people and how that adds to the other burdens of January.

They move on to a discussion about BYD & Tesla and how they could get to their 2022 sales targets. With the Beijing winter Olympics going on, the news cycle in China for the EV/AV space is a bit slow but Tu & Lei believe this to also be the calm before the Beijing Auto Show storm. In the United States, Thanksgiving is celebrated on the fourth Thursday in November—this year, on November 28th and it has already been celebrated in Canada, on the second Monday in October the 14th this year. Turkey has become the traditional choice for Americans after Lincoln declared Thanksgiving a national holiday in 1863. It was part of Christmas history as far back as the 16th century, and popular history tells of King Henry VIII being the first English monarch to have turkey for Christmas. The 16th century farmer Thomas Tusser noted that by 1573 turkeys were commonly served at English Christmas dinners. Although these were feasts for the rich, royalty and landed gentry. Even though turkeys are much more affordable today, they still remain a celebratory symbol of bounty. In fact, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin Aldrin ate roast turkey in foil packets for their first meal on the Moon. November seems to now have become the launchpad for the #ChristmasCountdown as #BlackFriday has now become a fortnight of sales in the run up to the last Friday in November and the media has started to hit the consumer with a plethora of enticing advertisements all designed to encourage the consumer to part with their hard earned cash. It's a commonly held belief that Christmas makes itself known sooner year on year. But is there any truth to the "Christmas creep"? Here, John Lewis' adverts are widely regarded as the "official beginning" of the Christmas season in the UK. The same Christmas season that, by the way, does not start earlier every year. Since John Lewis' "Sweet Child o' Mine" Christmas ad of 2009, the brand's adverts have come out around the same time of year for the past six years, between the 6th and the 12th of November. But how often have you seen a box of mince pies in the supermarket in October and we have have only just had Halloween and the Family Circle boxes are on offer at the beginning of November. It's a commonly-held belief that Christmas comes earlier every year, along with all the other once-a-year festivities. Valentine's cards come out as soon as you chuck your Christmas tree into the neighbor's skip; Easter eggs immediately after that; and on and on, until all holidays overlap into one big commercial mess. But is there actually any truth in this? Are people just idealizing a past in which capitalism had less of a stranglehold on society – in which they had less of an understanding of what exactly capitalism was, because they were stupid children – and forgetting that we've been subjected to all of this seasonal bullshit since birth? I try to rationalize it all by working on the premise that these early displays allow some of us to spread our spending wisely in the run up to the 'big day/holiday'. Some of the children I work with come from less well off homes and this time of year can be extremely difficult for them as they are bombarded by advertisements for lots of goods, their families will go into debt to get them the 'latest in toy' and others will struggle with just having a Christmas Dinner. A babysitter that looked after my children was a wise old woman, sadly no longer with us and she attacked the January Sales with gusto, as this was her gathering time for the next Christmas! Now that really is #ChristmasCreep. It makes sense; once retailers have stopped offering barbecues and cocktail shakers, the natural progression is to slyly shift towards marketing the warm and cosy, there to ward off the impending dread that comes with only seeing 30 minutes of sunlight a day. But does all that change our behavior as consumers? Have Your Say Now - Hit these links: Voice Comment or on Twitter --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/ateachersstory/message

What is Really Happening on Black Friday? It's that time of year again: Black Friday sales are next week. A US tradition, Black Friday was named for the idea that it is the day retailers finally move out of the red for the year and into the black of profits. It is also the official kickoff of the holiday shopping season. However, what is really going on here? Why do people trample through the doors of a retailer they likely frequent three times a week most months mere hours after polishing off far too much food than is healthy for them? How to marketers compel people to stand in the dark and cold for hours to shop in their stores? Black Friday is the way it is because of the psychological concept called Scarcity. Scarcity is a motivator like none other for customer behavior—specifically their buying behavior. Scarcity stems from the idea that resources we think are harder to come by are more valuable. In the distant past, our ancestors did not have access to the jumbo pack of Cheetos at their friendly big-box retailer. Instead, they had to compete for food, water, and shelter with other humans. For them, overcoming Scarcity was a matter of survival. No one could argue that buying a discounted giant flat-screen TV for pennies on the dollar one Friday morning in November is a survival instinct. However, the motivations behind our behavior have the same origins. We try harder when something is hard to get. What's an elbow in the face of your fellow shopper when you are talking about 4k Ultra HD Now, Black Friday is next week in the US, but it is not the only time we see this behavior or even the only country where it happens. The idea of a day of big sales that bring out the animal in us is global. Similar events occur in the UK (the January Sales), and China (Single's Day). Even other sales in the US can create a frenzy, like Presidents' Day sales or Labor Day “Events.” In this episode of The Intuitive Customer, we explore the concept of Scarcity and how it affects customer behavior, both good and bad. We also talk about how marketers create the idea of scarcity in the minds of consumers, and the effect it can have on Customer Experience and their bottom line. The Intuitive Customer podcasts help you take your Customer Experience to the next level by unlocking the “hidden” aspects of your experience and determining what really drives value for your customers. We’re talking about January sales!! Easily one of my favourite things ever, and even though I’m not the biggest fan of discounting what you’re selling, I will be taking advantage of some of the retail discounts that the New Year brings! I’m also going to tell you all about what they are doing in terms of promotion and sales process, and why they do it each and every January, without fail. You don’t need to massively discount your products or services to stimulate sales in your business, but if you pay attention to what other successful people are doing and why, there could be some opportunity for you to creatively implement some of these strategies in your own January sales plan with integrity! In This Episode What is your sales copy focused around in January? Maximum visibility, maximum promotion Reminding your audience that they can buy from you for their solution The moment I stop shopping What do you want to cull in the new year and how do you turn that into profit? “January is the one time of the year where actually, people don’t focus on benefits really at all” “Don’t lie to your audience. Integrity is everything” “Now is their time to make that big push for revenue” “When people are going through the journey with you, how are you reminding them?” “Can you make a retirement offer?” The Dotties https://smartleaderssell.com/the-dotties/ More Jess!http://bit.ly/SLSGroup https://jessicalorimer.com/supersize-your-sales https://jessicalorimer.com/list-building-legend Content DisclaimerThe information contained above is provided for information purposes only.
