It's a tradition around the Deucecast Movie Show that we always want to honor our moms on Mother's Day... and sometimes that means showing the world how lucky we are that our Moms are NOT the moms in movies. This week on the show, Friend of the Show, Mr Independent himself Jeremy Burgess, joins d$, Mikey, and #XLessDrEarl to talk all about the worst, meanest, sometimes most murderous and villainous moms in all the movies. From creatures from space to cheerleader moms to grifting moms to abusive moms and more. Plus, Burgess gives his take on not just small indie films to watch for, but some mainstream films that everyone should see. Then, a rousing game of Part 3 Rotten Tomatoes. And, likely the first mention of Club Shay Shay on the podcast ever.
It's become an annual tradition that started with d$ wanting an excuse to talk about Jackie Chan's "The Foreigner"... a movie not worth of a Top Ten of the year appearance, but worthy of discussion... a surprise, nay, an absolute delight. Hence, the annual "Surprise & Delight" episode! These are movies that surprised and delighted Mikey, d$, #XLessDrEarl, and even Friend of the Show, Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess. First up, some chatter about Eric Roberts' new autobiography, plus thoughts on the indie movie scene. Then, Jason Statham's IP'ness... Jake Gyllenhaal's "Road House"... Hugh Grant's winning villainy... d$ getting it wrong, then getting it Hot n Frosty right... plus love for Glen Powell and admiration for Sebastian Stan. Then, 2025's Burgentine's Day commences, as assignments are given from the the crew and a few friends...
He's one of the last real superstars, and last real movie stars that we've had in Hollywood, and no, we aren't talking about our friend Jeremy Burgess... We are talking one Thomas Mapother IV, aka, Tom Cruise, and it's time for the show to do our official Tom Cruise Top 10. Mikey and d$ are joined, as per usual, by #XLessDrEarl and a big movie fan, the Pride of Dahlonega, Spawn of The Voice of Valdosta, Lil Garrison Ryfun to count them down. First, Garrison gives his review on the latest Pope romcom, "Conclave", with #XLessDrEarl chiming in a little. Then, starting with "Endless Love" and ending with "Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning", and every Tom Cruise movie in-between - each of the guys list their fave Cruise films as we go along. Finally, at the end of the show, an overall average is taken and the Official Tom Cruise Top Ten Films are announced!
With a little nod to All Hallow's Eve, the guys at the Deucecast are here to celebrate some of the best in suspense and horror and creepy movies, with the first ever Horror Movie Draft. #XLessDrEarl was called away to a patient found in a bathtub of ice with no kidneys and is doing the proper surgery now -- but stepping into the pretentious spot, Miss Independent himself, the Burgerler, Jeremy Burgess. The rules are simple... after playing a quick Box Office Mojo game, in a snake style draft, the guys select horror and scary movies from across Hollywood's years, filling out a list that will ultimately get a movie from the 1960s or previous... the 70s... the 80s... the 90s... the 2000s... the 2010s... and 2020 until current date. Some are pretty easy to pick, others take some strategy, but overall, Mikey, d$, and Burgess are all asking you to vote THEIR Lineup the best of all -- so make sure you cast your vote either in the Discord or on @TheDeucecast on X.com! And at the end of the show, Mikey pays off his annual venture into scary movies, MikeTober, plus a rundown on the streaming status of "Don't Die"
The My Favorite Summer series takes a slight break this week, but not to give a classic episode... this week, d$, Mikey, and #XlessDrEarl drops in your lap a bunch of extra content... First, the Deucies Reaction Show -- friends of the show, Garrison "Pride of Sylvester" Ryfun, Roth from Wyoming, Aussie Nate, and The Burgeler himself, Jeremy Burgess give their thoughts on the awards given, those snubbed, who should have won and who did win based on The 11th Annual Deucie Awards, episode 626. Next, a little extra Jeremy Burgess, giving his thoughts on possible winners of the Deucie Screenplay Award. If this is your first time listening to our show... we beg you, find another episode to get used to us. If you are a regular listener... first, we're sorry, but then, THANKS and enjoy the randomness this week, and we'll see you for Documentaries next week!
It's a classic ep this week, as we combine TWO episodes -- Ep 214 and Ep 218, both from March 2016 -- with special guests Clay Shaver and Jeremy Burgess Both episodes run through our (then) all time top 10 movies, as we were finishing up a series giving our top 100... Here are the original show notes! Finally... it's here! Dave, Mikey & Pinky have entered the Top Ten in our year long series of our Top 100 favorite films... and because it's so monumental, the Deucecast Movie Show gang had to bring in two of their favorite dozen or so guests -- Local Birmingham filmmaker Jeremy Burgess and host of the Remodeling Clay podcast Clay Shaver -- to give senseless... er, senseful films. But first, a rousing game of Chronology, with great categories like "The Mitten"... "Bale-Out"... "Mikey Likey"... and of course, the always loved "Potent Potables". Starting with a reminder of how each of the participants came up with their own Top Ten. Jeremy offers up a John Carpenter masterpiece, talks about his favorite horror films and the movie that "is underrated for being overrated" and possible "date rapey". Pinky falls in love with Anna Kendrick and cancer, talks about a movie fetish and lists the best Rings film... Clay discusses a Vietnam classic, his best Kevin Smith and a quintessential buddy cop film... Dave has more Anna Kendrick meets airport stories, celebrates a sinking ship and an Elton John song... and Mikey feels some heat, feels some Breakfast and has some romance. Some True Romance. Also, Kate Hudson may or may not come on our show, ever... Next, how lowly ranked should "Pulp Fiction" actually be? And... coming soon, a new reality show called... "The Burgeler"? AND THEN It's been a year in the making, but here it is... five films from Mikey, from Dave, and from Pinky, along with special guests Remodeling Clay Shaver and local filmmaker Jeremy Burgess, who give their five of all time. Jumping right in, with Mikey's #5, the discussions flow on where Diehard 2 stands in the original trilogy... two Gregory Peck films... the delight of "In Bruge"... a double dose of Andy Dufresne... Harrison Ford makes a big splash... when "Pulp Fiction" is too low... a film that millennials should discover... Dave's previous favorite film ever until this one... Thoughts on "Blade Runner 2"... Pinky's weird party going habits... the generation gap between Bale's & Keaton's Batman... how to get ripped off after being paid $4 billion... and who does Jeremy think is kidding when they talk about their favorite film? Plus, tips on creating your own Top 100...
Each year, there are the movies that perhaps are not on Mikey's, Dave's, or #XLessDrEarl's top fives or top tens, but they are still movies that surprised everyone... and delighted everyone... unexpected pleasant moviegoing experiences if you will. And we give our top five in this category in our annual Surprise & Delights episode... and like always, Friend of the Show, Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess joins to give his fave underrated and unexpected performances as well. First up, some chatter about movies that should be nominated for Best Picture, and a look at d$'s Christmas Gift to Burgess, the David Cronenburg film "Videodrome". Then, the top five Surprise & Delights of the year, including Sydney Sweeney facing Reality... much love for a Sophia Coppola joint... several name drops for Jerry Butler... the differences in the movie and the 3 part series "Blackberry" on AppleTV... the year in horror... and much more. Finally, the 2024 Burgentine's Day commences, as assignments are given from the likes of Aussie Nate... Melissa R... and the trio on the Deucecast. Films discussed: Air (Amazon Prime) Birth/ReBirth (Shudder) Blackberry (AMC+) Cha Cha Real Smooth (AppleTV+) David Holmes: The Boy Who Lived (MAX) Godzilla Minus One (in theaters) Gran Turismo (Netflix) The Iron Claw (in theaters) It's a Wonderful Knife (Shudder) Jesus Revolution (Netflix) Kim's Video (unavailable) Plane (Starz) Polite Society (Amazon Prime) Poor Things (in theaters) Priscilla (for rental) Reality (MAX) The Royal Hotel (for rental) Shin Godzilla (for rental) Sick (Peacock Premium) Skinamarink (Hulu/Shudder/AMC+) Totally Killer (Amazon Prime) Wonka (in theaters) You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah (Netflix) You Hurt My Feelings (for rental) You're Killing Me (Showtime)

But first, Mikey, d$, and #XlessDrEarl welcome in Friend of the Show, Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess, as Burgess catches everyone up on the latest with his film "Don't Die" as well as giving a few film recommendations that you may have not heard of. When you get five and half-a-hunna episodes into your podcast, including 12 Halloween Episodes, you can't always do "Best Villains"... sometimes you have to go the other way, and do the "Worst Villains", or more specifically, "The Most Incompetent Bad Guys" in films. October birthday movies up first, as Blade Runner 2049 celebrates its 5th birthday, The Might Ducks has it's 30th birthday, and The Manchurian Candidate turns 60 (RIP Angela Lansbury!) Guest of the night, Miss Independent himself Jeremy Burgess joins the show to fill us on on Dust on the VCR as well as the update on the upcoming film Don't Die. Then, Mikey, Dave, #TwitterlessDrEarl, and Burgess give their own list of greatly terrible bad guys in film -- written well but played poorly, or the storyline they are given is terrible, or flashy but totally ineffective for any number of reasons. Finally, MikeTober #9 commences, with Mikey giving his recap and ranking of "Speak No Evil", "Dog Soldiers", "The Vanishing" and some other movie I can't remember but he didn't like as much. It's the first episode of #FanBoySummer, featuring one of the show listeners not only joining the show, but picking the topic! Today, Mikey, d$ (returning from his death bed), and #TwitterlessDrEarl welcome back Friend of the Show and Mr Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess. First up, a gangsta' game of Rotten Tomatoes, honoring one we lost too soon -- Ray Liotta, and his best (and not so best) films. Then, Burgess' topic pick, figuring how we've done football and baseball centric themes, and so this time, it's all round ball.... Top Five Best Basketball movies. And it makes for an even better time when two of the four have only seen a marginal amount of hoops films, one has seen mostly documentaries, and the fourth being the only true basketball cinematic expert. Although not a claims professional like our other guests to date, he has very much been involved in helping publicise issues and solutions in the London market claims industry. Jeremy talks to us about how TIN was formed and how they are driving positive change in the industry by bringing topics such as technology and diversity to the forefront. He also gives us his take on what he thinks makes a good claims handler and some of the challenges his business has faced and overcome because of Covid.
The award season is on the fast track to the big one, the Academy Awards, and it was time to revisit some of the previous Oscar seasons... specifically, the Best Picture nominees from years gone by. And to accomplish this feat of movie strength, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl bring in Mr Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess! First, Burgey's take on movies you should see, both in a theater and streaming... then 2002 Oscar talk. Essentially... there were only five nominees for Best Picture. Within a decade, they would allow up to ten films to be nominated. So it's our job to come up with our own lists of the other five that should have also been nominated... note: we CANNOT remove any of the existing films, we can only add to the list. And at the end of the show, the crew all submit one film each that should have been nominated, then a quick discussion on the final film, to come up with a Deuce Best Picture nominee list. The existing nominees are Gosford Park, In the Bedroom, Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings, and Moulin Rouge!, with A Beautiful Mind winning... so the crew asks, "Did they get it right?" Finally, Jeremy gives his take on the assigned Burgentine's Day films... And all through the episode, the nominations for the 9th annual Deucie Awards are announced! Movies discussed and where to find them: Ali (Netflix; Hulu) Amelie (not available) A Beautiful Mind (for rental) Black Hawk Down (HBO Max) Blow (Hulu) Bridget Jones's Diary (HBO Max) The Devils Backbone (for purchase) Gator (not available) Gatorbait (AMC; Shudder) Ghost World (for rental) Gosford Park (for rental) Heist (Netflix) In the Bedroom (Showtime) The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Rings (HBO Max) Memento (HBO Max) Monsters Ball (HBO Max) Monsters Inc (Disney+) Moulin Rouge! Enjoy the video version on YouTube at Real Risk Podcast. At the top end of town in motor sports - Formula 1 and MotoGP, the budgets are eye watering. The technology is beyond comprehension and the competition to get a seat or a ride is extraordinary with countless young wannabes vying for a tiny number of opportunities. So when the red lights go out and the racing starts, the need for not only speed but also reliability is obvious. A tenth of a second here or there gained through tyre choice or suspension setup will win races. Much of this is in the hands of the crew chief, the person responsible for coordinating the different teams who look after all the different systems and who can also interpret the feedback from the racer. In motor cycle Formula 1 (the MotoGP), the best of these crew chiefs was Australian Jeremy Burgess. "JB" looked after some massive names - Randy Mamola, Freddy Spencer, Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi. JB earn't the nickname "The Kingmaker" through his involvement with over 15 World Championships! It was a delight to chat with one of Adelaide's own who made it big on the world stage.
Listen in for the first fully 'conversational' episode in awhile as I round up friends of the show Chance Shirley (director of Hide and Creep, Interplanetary, and For A Few Zombies More) and Jeremy Burgess (director of the forthcoming Don't Die) to talk about a pair of epic conspiracy thrillers: 1977's Capricorn One directed by Peter Hyams (Timecop, 2010: The Year We Made Contact), and starring Elloit Gould, James Brolin, OJ Simpson, and Karen Black (among others). 2016's Operation: Avalanche directed by Matt Johnson (The Dirties, Nirvanna the Band the Show) and starring Matt along with his buddy Owen Williams Both movies are easily watchable via HBO Max and Amazon Prime, respectively, and are definitely worth your time. The summer is half over, and the summer series is rounding the corner toward the homestretch (that's a baseball metaphor for you folks out there). Mikey and Dave, again sans #TwitterlessDrEarl, take up the mantle of more summer cinema, this time the best from Memorial Day to Labor Day of 2000 to 2004, and the guys bring back Miss Independent himself Jeremy Burgess to the show. After catching up with The Burgeler (new reality show premiered this Fall on ABC), they play a little 2000s themed Rotten Tomatoes game, with the possible first time mention of "Shark Tale" ever on the podcast (and maybe the first time since the early 2000s anyone has thought of it), then onto the Top Five. Nic Cage and Costner both make random appearances, and Spielberg films about airports and pre-cognitions also show up. Plus, the lower of the Mission Impossibles, Jamie Foxx and his Collateral, the beginning of the super hero era, Harry Potter shows up, Nicole Kidman's classics, Jay and Silent Bob go after their MoFo movie check, and the Black Pearl. But until then, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl have to give the world the four hundred and fiftieth episode! Joining the show at the top is Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess, to give the update first on "Jasper Mall", the 2020 documentary that is the favorite to win Best Doc at the 2021 Deucie Awards... then an update on fundraising for the new movie "Don't Die". Then, the Top Five Best Breakthroughs in Film, including Earl's pretention... And finally, the movie selection for the annual MikeTober Horror Movie Revue!
Russ Chinski and Brianne Greene with the Salmon Whitewater Park visit Voice of the Valley to talk about the progress of the whitewater park. Though it is a large cost to build a whitewater park, an anonymous donor is donating up to $800,000 at a 4-1 match. The Salmon Whitewater Park hopes to raise $200,000 by fall 2021 and put the whitewater park in the east channel of the Salmon River between the walking bridge and the highway bridge. The winner of the raft raffle is also drawn. Chris Born and Jeremy Burgess update listeners on school district news. As of 8/3, the Salmon schools are planning to reopen as normal. As long as Lemhi County stays in the minimal risk category of Covid, sports will also continue as normal. Pioneer construction is completed. The only renovation left is the new high school bleachers.
In the new episode of The Deucecast Movie Show, the guys 'fess up about the things they are passionate about when it comes to movies. Mikey, Dave, and The Twitterless One, #TwitterlessDrEarl brings up those things in movies they "mark out for". From the Urban Dictionary: When you "mark out", you stand up for something or believe something completely. Believing something completely. And to help the guys mark out, they bring in a Friend of the Show who always marks out for The Deucecast, Miss Independent himself, Jeremy Burgess. First up, a game of Rotten Tomatoes, checking out movies all about spring -- call out your score, whoever is closer (over or under) and get the point. And then the crew looks at the directors, actors, genres, scenes, tropes and more they "mark out for", or "stan" for, or even as #TwitterlessDrEarl would say, "find groovy, the bees knees, the cat's pajamas"... media movies... legendary logos... superstar deaths... and getting nekkid. Just listen. You'll get it.
4/24 The new multi-purpose facility committee, including Bill Allen, Jim Bob Infanger, Ryan Allen, Rick Sessions, Sony Galvan, Chris Born, Cori Allen, and Jeremy Burgess talk about the new facility being built for the Salmon School District. The facility is made possible by the generous donation from Nep Lynch. It's that season of the Deucecast Movie Show, when the series of episodes look back on the previous year... in this case, 2019. But Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl not only watched dozens of films from 2019, they also watched movies from previous years as well! First up, Birthday Movies, as a review of theatrical releases from January of 2015, 2010, 2005 and five years back and back and back. Who knew that Blackhat was five years old? Or that My Dog Skip turns 20 years old? And the Falcon turns 35, as well as his buddy, The Snowman. Then, the crew invites in crowd fave, Indie Autuer himself, Jeremy Burgess, for a little movie making chit-chat, some clarification about what the Best Boy actually does, and then the favorite films seen in 2019 that weren't actually from 2019. Movies like A Star is Born, or at least some version of it... Burgess gives Soderburgh some love, while Dave goes all in on Baumbach... #TwitterlessDrEarl free's Solo... Dave murders a ball... Burgess attacks a block... and Mikey laments being ordinary people...

Funny show this one with Dre, King and Cam. This was originally going to be a show dominated by MotoGP's Japanese GP Weekend. The Deucecast Movie Show is proud to do what only a few people thought -- or cared -- they could do... hit Episode 400. After 399 shows of film mediocrity (with some flashes of brilliance: see "Hoyle, KB"), the 400th show begins. To celebrate 400, Mikey, Dave, and #TwitterlessDrEarl, are hosting the very first Deucecast Movie Show Podcast Virtual Film Festival, each showcasing five films that are near and dear to them over the course of a virtual weekend, on a virtual stage, in front of a virtual audience. And because the show wouldn't be what it was without the fans who listen, and the rotating cast of characters that come on the show, ten of the regulars have been invited to give three of their favorite films to showcase. Jennifer Kaufman is on first, with what she considers to be a perfect film, plus a cute flick between her and Dude Kaufman, and a sentimental Deucecast favorite too. Longtime co-host and now Gulag occupant Pinky comes back to give his fave Pixar film, his fave horror film, and a recent movie he saw as a young tyke. Like, when he was 8. Indie fan and Mikey contrarian Jeremy Burgess steps in for a fabulous sports documentary, a classic thriller, and then zags with an unexpected guilty pleasure. Finally, on Part 1, the TechnoRetro Dads themselves join the show -- Shaz & Shua showcase some classic 80s sci-fi, a Steve Martin classic, and, of course, Krull. As well as Dave's story about Cheap Trick. Of course, the show hosts have their own picks too, with a crazy doc and a serious doc. Pretentiousness reigns from 1928, Incredible Michael Mann, and another Kerri Green name drop. Join the show next week for Part 2 of the Virtual Film Fest, with appearances by Retro Joe, Clay Shaver, Jenn Novotny and both Old and Young Ryfun!

Today, Brent is the Managing Director of IPS Realty, where he helps others invest in Detroit’s booming neighborhoods, mainly on the East Side. In this episode I interview Jeremy Burgess, the Detroit Market Expert and Urban Homesteader. Jeremy has been knocked down and lost everything. Twice. And he goto back up both times. I think he epitomizes the guts and determination that’s required to succeed if you invest in the city of Detroit. REI News A couple of weeks ago I was contacted by two smaller hedge funds. Both are looking to build a portfolio of rental homes here in the suburbs. They’d both like to build up to a purchase volume of ten homes per month. So I’m looking to put together a small group of folks with the money and the ability to do that kind of volume here on a consistent basis. So if you’d like to participate with funding deals, or if you can do some volume in the suburbs (not including cities like Pontiac or Inkster) then go to the contact page http://www.REITalkDetroit.com/contact and let’s talk. Current Business Right now Jeremy is focusing on his real estate networking group - the Renegade Detroit Investors. He’s on the downhill side of several lawsuits that have taken him to the cleaners and limited his involvement in real estate investing for the time being. He’s planning on jumping back into wholesaling - in the city of Detroit - when he finally gets through the lawsuits. How He Got Started in REI He was living in Spokane Washington and going nowhere when he and a friend went to a REI seminar in Idaho. He was looking for a life-line, so he jumped in with both feet. He started investing in Detroit from Washington state, and came to the conclusion that he needed to be here. So his wife quit her high paying job and they packed up and moved here in 2007. Biggest Mistake He says that his biggest mistake is not having multiple exit strategies for his deals. He attributes some of the losses he’s experienced to not having planned better. Biggest Success Not surprising, Jeremy’s biggest success is getting back up after being knocked down twice. Answer to Listener Question The question that I asked him is "What do I have to do to be successful investing in the city of Detroit?” His first recommendation - you need to be here, boots on the ground. His second is that you need to understand that Detroit is a medium-risk market at best, and that you need to prepare to lose money on deals. But if you put the time in, learn, and get proficient, you can reap the substantial profits that are available in the city.
