- « Sign ‘o' the Times » - « When Doves Cry » - « When You Were Mine » - « Around the World in a Day » - « Endorphinmachine » - « 4 the Tears in My Eyes » - « Purple Rain » - « The Cross » - « Sometimes It Snows in April » - réalisé par : Lilian ALLEAUME

Whelp, so much for that projected stock downturn. The S&P 500 Index is a hair’s breadth away from turning into “bull market” territory — a 20% rise in stocks — since a low hit last October. We look at why the market has been high on the economy this year despite earlier pessimism. Plus, a deeper look into yesterday’s announcement that the PGA Tour would merge with its Saudi-backed rival, LIV Golf. And finally, a look at how Prince reshaped the music industry by changing his name to the famous “Love Symbol” in the 1990s.
When Prince announced he would no longer go by his birth name on June 7th, 1993, it took the public and his record label, Warner Brothers, by surprise. Henceforth he wanted to be known, he explained, as an unpronounceable ‘Love Symbol'; a bespoke mash-up of the Mars and Venus gender signs which wasn't even available in font libraries. The dispute centred on the fact that ‘The Artist' had 500 unreleased songs in his studio vault at Paisley Park, but Warner believed to put them out too quickly would saturate the market with Prince albums and devalue their star signing. Prince began performing with the word “SLAVE” on his cheek, regarding his own name as a part of his contractual entrapment. In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly explain why, long before Warner's got involved, Prince's name had always been a Freudian nightmare; consider the purple one's claims to be a ‘slave' in the context of other African-American figures; and reveal the none-too-subtle pseudonyms he deployed when out on the town… Ƭ̵̬̊ Further Reading: • The Artist, formerly known as Prince (Entertainment Weekly, 1999): https://ew.com/article/1999/06/04/artist-formerly-known-prince-2/ • ‘A Prince by Any Other Name' (Vanity Fair, 2011): https://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2011/10/prince-bio-201110 • ‘Larry King Live: Prince' (CNN, 1999): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8mg7CxAYUM #Music #Black #US #90s Love the show? Hey there Nerds! We've got a new format and new podcast host in store for you. Join us as we start a new chapter of the show with an old show staple – Prince!Andy kicks things off with 1995's The Gold Experience, a album mired in record company disputes and speculations, the record marks the first time Prince officially released music as [Love Symbol] (not to be confused with the 1992 record of the same name, of course).Don's selection – Around the World in a Day – has been labeled the psychedelic Prince record, though as we discuss, the record is just a eclectic as any other Prince album. As the follow-up to Purple Rain, the record wasn't considered a commercial success, but how does it hold up musically? The Dude's pick comes from later in Prince's career – 2014's Art Official Age. Words have the power to elevate or tear down someone's perception of themselves and their diabetes health. For decades, much of the language around diabetes has been focused on adverse outcomes and laden with judgment and blame without considering individual needs, beliefs, and choices. On the other hand, encouraging and collaborative messages can enhance health outcomes. In 1992, Prince changed his name to an unpronounceable, infamous "Love Symbol." He wrote: "It's all about thinking in new ways, tuning in 2 a new free-quency." It derives from a combination of the symbols for both males and females. He adopted the symbol as a tool for contract negotiations with his record label. According to Rolling Stone, Warner Bros. wanted Prince to slow down the pace of releasing new music for fear of flooding the market. Unwilling to consent to their request, Prince actually increased his rate. The Love Symbol meant so much to him that he continued to use it long after changing his stage name back to Prince when his contract with Warner Bros. finally expired. Guests include Poet Lorraine Brooks, and Susan Weiner MS, RDN, CDCES, FADCES. Throughout the podcast, we will be featuring music from Prince & The New Power Generation's Love Symbol album courtesy of SONY Music.

Come (1994).
Prince fans marked the fifth anniversary of his death from inside Paisley Park studio, where the pop superstar lived and worked in the small city of Chanhassen, Minnesota, on April 21. Some of the fans wore custom Prince clothes and shoes and left flowers and other mementos as tributes to the late musician. Around 1,400 people snagged free reservations to the event inside the studio's atrium. Other fans paid their respects in front of a statue outside the front doors. The statue was in the shape of Prince's famous purple Love Symbol. “He reached me through his music and through his words and everything. My daughters, I raised them with the love of Prince,” said Raquel Ponce of Mason City, Iowa. The sprawling studio was turned into a museum in October 2016, around six months after Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose at age 57. On this installment of SRR all 56k modem users will initiate The SRR Experience, where we discuss the complex and eccentric "Love Symbol" era of the mid-90's of this legendary artist formally known as, but now known as the name he was know for before. Login and experience the silent interviews, the mudslinging at Warner Bros. and we answer the question, could you be the most beautiful girl in the world?
Paisley Park, the home and music studio of Prince will be open to fans for free on April 21 to mark the fifth anniversary of his death. Fans of Prince can make advance reservations and they can also leave flowers and mementos in front of the Love Symbol statue that is located just outside the Paisley Park entrance.
Prince was breaking ground for his entire life. He pushed himself to learn over 20 instruments, write, record, produce, promote, and succeed! He paved the way for black musicians on MTV, and mastered a wide variety of musical styles while flaunting his flamboyant persona with lavish production and shows. But, outside of the spotlight, he was suffering from incredible hip and joint pain that led him to painkillers and an accidental, untimely death. deathbymusicpodcast@gmail.com.Listen to the accompanying playlist for this episode at https://open.spotify.com/playlist/5Z9kpjVEZD425a9TfgPgGu?si=8_kdc5EPQjGMKWwRvnRIOQ&utm_source=copy-link .By Alex Motteler, Cassie Gardener, and Drew Orton. From Minneapolis, Minnesota, this episode's featured artist was born Prince Roger Nelson on June 7th 1958. His parents were both musicians and he grew up playing covers of Jimi Hendrix and Sly and the Family Stone tunes. Prince released his debut record, For You, at the age of just 19. Save for one co-write on the track Soft and Wet, he produced, wrote and played all 27 instruments on the album. Since that first release in 1978, his talents crossed genres from r&b, funk, pop, rock, and jazz. Prince is remembered for his music that focuses on sex and sexuality as well as it's political and social commentary. We have his song “Darling Nikki” to thank for those little Parental Advisory stickers we used to see on CDs. Like many mega stars, he made his way onto the silver screen most notably with the classic, Purple Rain. The soundtrack earned him his first chart topping hit, “When Doves Cry” followed by “Let's Go Crazy”. Prince went on to earn 3 more #1 Billboard Hits, with 19 total reaching Top Ten status, and a whopping 47 songs total to break the top 100. There are far too many accolades to list here, but some of Prince's award highlights include 8 Grammys ranging from Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group for Purple Rain in 1984 to Best Male R&B Vocal Performance for Future Baby Mama in 2004. He earned 7 Billboard Music Awards, and 7 Brit Awards. He was inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, 3 of his records have been inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, and I would be remiss if I didn't remind our listeners about his life altering 2007 Superbowl Halftime Show performance, arguably the best Superbowl performance to date. Folks, I could go on and on, but I'd like to end with mentioning that Prince was a vegan, and a philanthropist supporting causes like Yes We Code and Green for All. He was someone the world lost far too early. This week on Favorite Songs By we give you The Purple One, the Love Symbol, his name is PRINCE and he is funky! Let's make it rain!

Today we're talking about the Purple wonder himself, Prince. As we all know, this legend understood the importance of protecting his intellectual property and was no stranger to defending his rights through legal action when necessary. Remember the time he sued 22 Facebook users for linking to bootleg copies of music. How about the time he changed his name to a symbol as a result of contract dispute with his record label. Causing fans to refer to him as the artist formally known as Prince until the matter was resolved years later. Bottom line, he has had rights and he knew how to enforce them. Which is really important when you are creating your own portfolios. It doesn't matter how many trademarks or copyrights you register if you don't take the extra step to monitor and enforce your rights. You will lose what ever rights that are granted to you through registration if you fail to keep people of your mark or off your work. Prince's propensity to protect his brand did not stop at his death. On October 15 of this year, his estate filed a trademark application for a unique shade of purple that was created specifically for him when he was using the symbol rather than his name. The color is Love Symbol #2 and was created by Pantone in 1993 for him. This story was shared to me on Instagram by the financial rebel. In the comments, some people were outraged by this moved. I'm pretty sure this is because they don't really understand what this registration means for their use of the color purple. So let's talk about it. Today's top three takeaways are: 1. If you don't protect your mark you will lose it 2. obtaining a registered trademark for those aspects that make you standout in the market is good for business 3. Prince's registration of the unique shade of purple that was created specifically for him will not prevent us from using the color purple in our normal personal lives --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
Pop innovator and legend Prince has a long and storied history of not playing nice with his record label. Especially Warner Brothers, who sought to contain and sanitize the famously raunchy singer/songwriter, while preventing him engaging in more complex, far-reaching projects. This frustration and contentiousness came to a head in the 1990s, when in an effort to escape from his contract, Prince began releasing new material under the banner of an unpronounceable "Love Symbol", while releasing back catalog archives under his old moniker to fill his enforced quota. In what might be our stickiest episode yet, the goodboix Lee & Patrick take a look at the colorfully named Come, Prince's critically messy 1994 record, and his last album of new material released under the name of Prince until the 00's. Along for the ride is Todd Bowes, the frontman of industrial rock band Downcity Armory, and the host of fellow music podcast My Unfortunate Brain Unfortunately. Join them for lively discussions of sexy music, The Simpsons, ASMR, and to see just how many times Patrick chortles at the album title. This Month's Local Artist Feature: "Dark Matter" by Glass Mannequins
On this episode of The Sofa King Podcast, we look at the majesty of his royal purple badness, the one and only icon of music: Prince. Price was born in Minneapolis on June 7, 1958 to 2 musician parents. His real name was Prince since he was named 4 his father’s jazz band, which was called the Prince Rogers Band. He was said 2 be a sickly child, prone 2 seizures, but eventually, he told his mother that he wouldn’t be sick anymore because an angel told him not to be, and apparently, he was cured. His parents divorced when he was young, and he spent time with an abusive step father (who inspired him 2 write the song “Papa”) who did some nasty things 2 Prince, which ultimately may have led to Prince being the virtuoso he grew up 2 be. Prince was said 2 be a legendary master of music, writing his first song at 7 years old (a funk piece). By the time he was in high school, he was said 2 spend all day locked in the school music room, and even his high school teacher said his job was easy because young Prince essentially ran the class (along with his friends Morris Day, Jimmy Jam, and Terry Lewis). By the time he was a teen, he was playing in the band 94 East in club gigs throughout the Twin Cities. He had to wait before he could perform since he was only 13 but already built a huge name in the club scene as simply "The Kid." Eventually, at 17, he signed a three record deal with Warner Brothers (though he had 2 lie and act like he was actually 19), and the rest was history. He had a series of hits on his early albums, and by the time he released 1999 in his early 20s, he blew up the scene. By the 1980s, he was ready to drop his magnum opus, Purple Rain. This album did nothing short of define a generation of music, and it set him 2 win an Oscar and several Grammies and made him the hottest act in America. He had a series of massive albums and eventually signed the largest record deal in history for $100 Million dollars. This was a record deal he later regretted when he changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol called “Love Symbol #2.” The albums of Prince are considered some of the best ever released, from the chord progression, the drum machine programming, the mixing, the guitar playing, and even the vocal mix. Prince established his sanctum, Paisley Park in Minnesota, and his work record and output there is legendary in the business. Supposedly he has hundreds of albums of unreleased material in his famous vault waiting 4 release. With his tragic death in 2016, nobody knew what 2 do with his estate since he never drafted a will. However, the music in the vault is finally starting 2 come out, and Prince will continue 2 release albums for the rest of our lives from his mixing booth deep beneath Tupac Island. To cap off our first score of episodes, we've got two awesome guests on this show: comedians Mike Logan and Gerrit Elzinga of This Better be Good. Nick is in love with Prince, and not afraid to show it. Andrew thought the new Shaggy and Sting collab, 44/876, would be an easy target. Gerrit likes the classics, bringing Led Zeppelin's third album, Led Zeppelin III. Additionally, Mike stokes our love for Donald Glover with his offering, Awaken! My Love. Also we drink some beer.
