Never Say Whatever: How Small Decisions Make a Big Difference by Richard A. Moran https://amzn.to/42NCt9B Life Is Choices. Make Them. Calling in late to a Zoom meeting with kids playing in the background. Avoiding optional meetings. Dodging low-profile assignments. Giving H.R. lunch-and-learns a hard pass. There are countless ways we've become the apathetic version of our corporate selves―dismissing what seems unimportant with a big shrug emoji. Whatever. Who cares? In Never Say Whatever, veteran author, radio host, and former college president Dr. Richard Moran reveals with stunning clarity why you should care: The W-word is a career killer. In fact, he likens it to the similarly NSFW F-bomb. It can be a whole sentence, an attitude, an "OK," or nothing at all. It's a word that comes in handy and can be habit forming, but the consequences of using it as your fallback response can have drastically negative results over time. The numerous daily decisions we make, both at work and in life, are small chances to make big impact. Understanding this―and banishing that "meh" attitude―is key to success. Written with unflinching honesty, humor, and interviews with corporate decision makers, Never Say Whatever offers a blueprint to help everyone understand why and how the choices we make, even the minor ones, are in fact pivotal to professional development and career trajectory. For young graduates just starting out to seasoned professionals seeking ways to reenergize their careers, it's a timely call to get on track, and stay on track, with boosted productivity, an impressive personal brand, and a fortified gameplan for a supercharged career.

Western Australian metalcore outfit Make Them Suffer recently returned with their new single Doomswitch after a prolongued absence from the scene. Not only is it the band's first new music in an age, Doomswitch also sees Make Them suffer welcome new member and former Drown This City vocalist Alex Reade.Doomswitch is everything you would expect from Make Them Suffer - and more.Reade joined HEAVY to chat about the new song and how her addition to the line-up came about, starting with the early reception to the new track."Honestly, it's been so good," she smiled. "It's been such a surprise because there was so many elements to consider with the song. The band had been on a bit of a hiatus for a couple of years - because of COVID and obviously losing a member - changing a member, changing the sound a little bit, introducing a new instrument and I didn't really know how it was going to be received. I was bracing myself for a healthy amount of negative feedback, and there's none. It's so positively received where I'm sort of at the point now where I want the negative feedback (laughs)."Doomswitch is a crushingly heavy song, with Reade going more in depth as to the musical direction the band were going for."I was not involved in the songwriting for Doomswitch," Reade explained. "I came on when the song was written. There were parts written for me by Nick and Sean, who are an amazing songwriting team, so I got to come in - which was a really nice experience for me, to not have to write, and you're your own worst critic - so I think it's better than anything I've written in the past. It was a breath of fresh air to sing someone elses songwriting. Obviously we introduced the keytar in to Make Them Suffer, which is definitely fresh. In the past there's been a heavy presence with keys, but it's just been a keyboard or piano. Now I've introduced the keytar, introducing synth and samples so it's pretty cool. It's like a new experience for me stepping away from being a frontman and stepping in to being more of an instrumentalist, but I really like it."In the full interview, Alex talks more about Doomswitch, the visually stunning music video, joining Make Them Suffer and how it came about, her role in the band moving forward, her vocal sections with Sean and how they came together, their current tour, future plans and more.

Let's just admit it, sometimes as silly humans we do try to force things and we try to fight reality; especially when we don't want “it” to be how it is. As a coach, parent or an entrepreneur, really anybody who leads or guides people, whether it's a team of employees, a membership & community, or a mentor that has clients, the one thing we all know is we cannot make people do the work. We can hold the vision for them, we can cheer them on and we can show them the way - but like the old saying goes, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink.” It's the same with people; no matter how much you might want “it” for them you just can't force it. They have to be willing to play a proactive role in their own growth, transformation and healing. Today on The Karen Kenney Show, we're talking about loving and supporting people, but from a place of acceptance and understanding that we can't force them to do even what might need to be done, for their own results, safety, health, happiness or peace. Sometimes it's super necessary to take a step back and let the people you love people live out the effects of their personal choices and the consequences of being themselves. On today's Podcast we speak with Rachel Luba, MLB player agent who's responsible for the negotiation of the historic Trevor Bauer contract. Among arbitration-eligible players, Trevor became the second-highest-paid starting pitcher in history. Rachel was the first woman who negotiated a contract for a player on the 25-man roster. After signing her first client, Trevor Bauer, following the 2019 season, Luba Sports was born. It exists to offer clients hyper-personalized and customizable representation packages and to revitalize a stagnant industry. From her time spent in the ring boxing larger opponents to her fight to break into the baseball industry, Rachel has always embraced the roll of underdog and considers herself a fighter. In addition to helping players maximize their career earnings, she hopes to inspire future generations of women and underdogs to fight for their goals, no matter the odds. Rachel is a dynamo. She'll share with us that time and time again, she did not take no for an answer. When faced with a crossroads, quit or face confrontation and do the work, she took the challenge to face confrontation and do the work. She's an example that hard work and determination does indeed pay off.  Also, listen to how often she has used negotiation to propel her career forward. She's got some tips for you and it's a great reminder that if we can sharpen our negotiation skills it's a huge benefit and can put you in the fast lane to career growth. Rachel's Quote The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can't find them, MAKE THEM. Rachel's Top 4 Takeaways Home Run interview with Rachel Luba, MLBPA Certified Player-Agent at Luba Sports, LLC. After hearing from Rachel I think it is evident that her favorite quote, “The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstances they want and if they can't find them, MAKE THEM.” Is abundantly true in Rachel's life. Take some advice, get out there and MAKE it happen! With that, let's get into the top 4 takeaways from Rachel Luba. Seek out and talk to people who are in the industry you want to be a part of. Be curious. Ask questions. Be passionate. Season 0, Episode 1. "Fantastic Characters and How to Make Them" teaches the fundamentals for creating a fantastic character in Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) and other TTRPGs. This isn't about races, classes, feats, or crunching numbers. These are guidelines for creating a character that will play well with others, contribute to the shared story, and still have a unique personality and background. I also touch upon the infamous phrase "but that's what my character would do" and address it head-on. The whys and the hows are upfront and center, as I explain why these tips are critical. You can read more about the topic in the companion blog post "How to create a fantastic character for Dungeons and Dragons and other TTRPGs." Check it out! There's no time like the present to really make things happen! So what I've decided to do for this episode — and for the next couple of weeks — is to bring you solo episodes related to the three verticals that we talk about on The Entrepology Podcast: business, body, and inner-badass! These are going to be short little episodes that will help you to really lay the foundation for a whole new story.   So to kick things off, we're going to be talking about how to become a visionary entrepreneur! For some of us, it's really easy to slip into this visionary role, but for others, it can come a bit harder. So in this episode, I'll be breaking down some of the systems and patterns of thinking that I do in my own life so that I can actually execute and hang out in my strongest visionary state.   These are my seven steps to becoming a visionary entrepreneur!   Key Takeaways: [1:02] About today's solo episode! [5:05] The first step to becoming more visionary: having creative space. [7:56] The second step: a capacity to notice problems all around you. [10:42] The third step: practice seeing the world through a glass-half-full perspective. [12:10] The fourth step: evaluating whether your idea or solution is truly scalable. [14:25] The fifth step: being willing to be wrong. [16:30] The sixth step: be comfortable with risk. [18:56] The seventh step: you've got to write your best ideas down. [20:08] My challenge to all of you. [20:47] What's to come for The Entrepology Podcast in 2020!   Mentioned in This Episode: The Entrepology Podcast Ep. 136: “Badass: How to Take Your Dreams (the Really, Really Big Ones) and Make Them a Reality, with Giovanni Marsico”   If you enjoyed our conversation and would like to hear more: Please subscribe to The Entrepology Podcast on Stitcher or iTunes. Welcome to Episode 47, focusing on a state that I think has one of the best flags in the country: Maryland. In this episode, we will be focusing on the 2017 Vin Doux Naturel from Old Westminster Winery, located in Westminster, MD. This particular bottle was one of three chosen by the winery as part of a #Winestudio event for the month of June. All that being said, the opportunity to review a dessert wine and talk on the podcast about the intricacies of making dessert wines along with the various styles thereof was too good a chance to resist. And so, here we have the 2017 Vin Doux Naturel, a dessert wine made of 100% estate-grown Valvin Muscat (a cross between Muscat Ottonel and the hybrid Muscat du Moulin, for the record) which was fermented with wild yeasts and fortified during fermentation using neutral grape spirits distilled from estate grapes. This particular vintage is made in a way reminiscent of wines coming from the Muscat de Beaumes de Venise AOC in France.  Here, fermentation is stopped by the slow addition of up to 10% of a 190 proof (95%) grape spirit. This additional alcohol slowly kills off the yeast, as most yeasts cannot stand an overly high concentration of alcohol. Port, as well as other similar fortified wines, are also made in this fashion. (Madeira is, too, but is then literally baked in hot steam rooms, or historically on the decks of ships; sweeter sherries are made this way also, but then develop a living coat of yeast known as flor while aging in barrel.) One can also create a sweet wine that isn't fortified by halting the fermentation before completion through chilling the wine to the temperature where yeast goes into stasis, and then sterile filtering.  A second way of creating a sweet, desert-style wine is by adding sulfites to the wine at a high enough level where the yeast cannot survive, and then sterile filtering. Sterile filtering is important for the production of sweet wines of this sort, because, without filtering, any yeasts that survive will feed on the residual sugar.  This will either make the wine ferment to dry in the tank or worse: if bottled, the CO2 created by the yeast as a result of fermentation can cause corks to pop or bottles to explode from the pressure. A final way of making a sweet wine that could qualify as a dessert wine is to back-sweeten the wine after it has finished fermenting to dry with a sugar solution or honey.  The TTB classifies a dessert wine as any grape wine containing over 14% but not more than 24% alcohol by volume. Citrus, fruit, and agricultural dessert wines must be further identified as to the fruit that was used.  I've rambled a lot about dessert wines here, and how to make them, so I'll have to be brief about the history of the wine industry in Maryland here. The oldest continuously operating winery in the state is Boordy Vineyards, located in the rural region of Hydes, Maryland. This winery was bonded in the 1940s by Philip & Jocelyn Wagner. Philip Wagner is one of the most important figures in the history of American wines that you've probably never heard of, as he quite literally wrote the first major book on the subject: American Wines and How to Make Them. The book was revised and republished as Grapes Into Wine, and it became the definitive book on winemaking in America for decades. Old Westminster Winery is much newer in comparison but is part of the rapidly expanding industry in Maryland which contributes an estimated $50 million dollars annually to the local economy. Today, Maryland has over 40 wineries, and three AVAs thus far: the Catoctin AVA (named for an Algonquin word meaning "speckled rocks") is located in Frederick and Washington Counties, while the Linganore AVA, part of the Piedmont Plateau, includes parts of Frederic and Carroll Counties. Lastly, the Cumberland Valley AVA we met in passing extends from Pennsylvania into Washington County in west-central Maryland.

George Bernard Shaw I was researching Arianna Huffington the other day to get more information for the quote of hers I was going to use on Goal Getting Quote of the Day. I saw she was on Instagram. I started following her and found a great quote she shared there. I think it very powerful and wanted to take it and share it with you. So, be sure to thank Arianna. This quote is from George Bernard Shaw: The people who get on in this world are the people who get up and look for the circumstance they want, and if they can't find them - Make Them -- George Bernard Shaw Wow, do you get the power in that quote? I don't necessarily mean the power in what IT says, but instead what it says you have the power to do. Do you want to be one of the people that get on in this world? Admit it, you do or you wouldn't be listening to this podcast. YOU want to achieve your goals. YOU want to Get The Goals You Set. According to Shaw's quote you just have to get up and look for the circumstances you want. If you want to be something, go out and look for that thing. Find someone that is what you want to be and ask them to teach you. Pay them if you have to. But go out and find the circumstances you want. The Power I was talking about early is the last part. If you can't find the circumstances you want - Make Them. That is powerful. Goal Getters, we have the power to make our own circumstances. We have the power to create what doesn't exist. The Wright brothers wanted to fly. They believed they, that man, could fly.  There was no circumstance out there at that time. And they didn't have the technology we have today.  People who want to get on in this world today create their own circumstances frequently. If you can find the circumstances you want - Make Them. If you need some help on setting goals and going out to get the circumstances you want, you can use our Goal Getter Goal Setting Worksheet. It will help you set The What, The Why and The How. Then you can go out and Make Your Circumstances you need to Get The Goals You Set. Thanks George Bernard Shaw for that powerful thought. And thanks Arianna Huffington for sharing it on Instagram.  Go out and Make Today A Great Day  Thanks for listening to Goal Getting Quote of the Day.
