In March 2025 I was fortunate enough to spend a weekend with the current Olympic pommel horse champion Rhys McClenaghan. I was taken back by his incredible attention to detail, all around professionalism and overwhelming generosity. These were all qualities I had experienced a few months earlier whilst filming with the Rio 2016 Olympic High bar champion Fabian Hambuchen. Growing up alongside the greatest British gymnast of all time Max Whitlock MBE, I witnessed first hand exactly what it takes to become an Olympic champion in the sport of men's gymnastics. All three of these athletes broke records and were able to compete consistently against the best of the best for many years. And this is my story.

Here are three things I learned from that magical experience that day. How can you create magical experiences in your own life. By following these three simple steps you can create magic that generates a positive impact in your own life. A long-overdue check-in conversation with Tom Hengl, director at OpenGeoHub, one of the leading scientists in earth observation and remote sensing—one of the most cited in his field, belonging to the top 0.1% (based on Clarivate Highly Cited Researchers). We discuss the significant changes in the world of remote sensing, satellites, and the hype surrounding AI, machine learning, and large language models over the past three years. While the hype has brought some interesting advancements, it also distracts people from the real work that needs to be done.We delve into the AI4SoilHealth European project we are part of, discussing how we can already monitor and observe most places on Earth from the sky at a resolution of 30 by 30 meters. Importantly, we can now look back nearly 25 years for almost all locations in Europe and analyse changes on a field-by-field basis. While we might not know the individual farmers, we can identify their fields, and we can train models to make predictions and provide actionable, relevant advice. We explore the idea of celebrating farmers and land stewards who have successfully regenerated their plots of land over the past decades. But how do we shift a culture that celebrates sports over regenerative farming? Finally, we touch on the challenges holding back some of this work, including the need for reliable and affordable in situ in-field soil health analysis.More about this episode on https://investinginregenerativeagriculture.com/tom-hengl.This podcast is part of the AI 4 Soil Health project which aims to help farmers and policy makers by providing new tools powered by AI to monitor and predict soil health across Europe. Support our mission to change a culture, one man at a time – https://menofiron.org/donate This week we continue our Faith in Sports Series with Olympic and World Champion Wrestler Kyle Snyder. In this episode, Kyle shares his incredible journey of wrestling and faith. At a young age Kyle wanted to be an Olympic Champion. Wrestling was everything. Kyle shares how his wrestling career shaped his understanding of God. "Through wrestling I found out who God was and who Jesus is." Kyle is a 2016 Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler. He is the youngest Olympic gold medalist and youngest World Champion in American wrestling history. He was a 3-time NCAA National Champion at Ohio State with a career record of 75-5 and ended his college career as the first and only wrestler to win the NCAA, World and Olympic championships as a collegiate athlete. After moving to the Olympic Training Center as a senior in High School, Kyle started going to Bible studies at the request of coaches and continued attending them as a freshman at Ohio State. Despite his desire to grow in his faith, his identity was still wrapped up in his wrestling accomplishments. A heart breaking loss in the NCAA Finals as a freshman sent Kyle into a state of depression and ultimately led to him surrendering it all to Jesus. This decision changed Kyle's life, allowing him to embrace his God-given abilities fully. Throughout this conversation, Kyle emphasizes the importance of being anchored in God's Word and how his commitment to studying the Bible and finding mentorship continues to strengthen his faith. Kyle concludes by highlighting that our ultimate purpose in life is to know God, grow in His character, serve Him, and teach others about Him. There's a lot that goes into it, but I think I'm fast enough to go after a world record in a few events.” My guest for today's episode is none other than Cole Hocker, the 23-year-old American middle distance star who shocked the world at the Paris Olympics by winning gold in the men's 1500m. Ashton Eaton is a 2x Olympic Gold Medalist (2012 and 2016) and a 5x World indoor and outdoor champion in the decathlon. He was the former world record holder in the decathlon and still holds the world record for the heptathlon. At the University of Oregon, he was a 5x NCAA champion and all American. Yet he grew up in Central Oregon a multi-sport athlete who only learned about the decathlon as a senior in high school when he was considering going to play Division III college football. Gabriel Castaño is a graduate of Penn State University and a 2x Mexican Olympic Swimmer in the 50 freestyle (2020 and 2024), and was once ranked as high as 4th in the world in his event. He, too, spent a childhood as a multi-sport athlete, competing mostly in road cycling and mountain biking after watching his father race motorcycles as a child. He began swimming in high school, and joined swim team to be with some friends, yet improved rapidly as he fell in love with the sport, eventually becoming an NCAA swimmer and Olympian. In today's podcast, John talks to Ashton and Gabo about their multi-sport childhoods, and how their parents and coaches allowed them to develop ownership, enjoyment, and the intrinsic motivation to compete and improve. They speak about their love of competing, and how the skills they developed as athletes translate into their lives after being a professional athlete. So many athletes are scared of this transition, and think that they do not have the skills to go into the corporate world, but Ashton and Gabo share how important it is to use the discipline and drive they learned as athletes to first explore and find your next passion, and then become a coachable employee, seeking feedback and improvement on your journey. "You're going to have stuff go wrong regardless. This year I had a lot of stuff go wrong, but it's not necessarily about not having anything go wrong. It's about how you respond to those issues that will inherently come up.” Today's guest is Ryan Crouser. Ryan just won his third straight Olympic gold medal in the men's shot put in Paris, becoming the first shot putter in history to win three Olympic titles. He did so with a mark of 22.90m, which is the second best in Olympic history, behind only his performance from Tokyo in 2021. The season wasn't easy for Ryan after winning World Indoors in Glasgow in March, he battled through pectoral and elbow injuries throughout most of the spring and the early summer that forced him to open his season at the U.S. Olympic Trials. Despite this adversity, he still came out on top when it mattered most, and now he's chasing something big in the last few Diamond League meets of the year. In this episode, he talks through the recovery process after picking up an elbow injury at the World Indoor Championships in March and then tearing his pectoral muscle about a month later. Ryan wasn't able to open his season until the U.S. Trials, but he picked up the win there to secure his spot in Paris. The Olympic final was never in doubt, as his first throw was good enough to win the competition by almost half-a-meter, and rain in the final three rounds stymied a comeback attempt from his rivals. His third straight Olympic gold makes him only the fourth thrower to ever win three Olympic titles. With the highest-pressure competition of the year out of the way, Ryan is ready to produce something massive, closing out his season with six meets in the span of three weeks. FIBA denied The Big 3 League's challenge to the Olympic Champion, Netherlands, to play a 3x3 game. How would that game go and what does the U.S. need to do to become more dominant in 3x3? The show then discusses who would be great 3x3 players to send to the Olympics and who would make the best 1 on 1 players in the NBA. Would LeBron James be able to defend Kevin Durant 1 on 1? Where is Stugotz when you need him? Then, Adnan Virk joins the show to discuss Aaron Judge hitting his 300th career home run and being the fastest player to 300 in MLB history. Juju thinks he can create a list of 50 bigger stars in American sports. Plus, our discussion of seminal handsome movie stars continues with Adnan. Then, Roy brings the show full circle in a way only he can. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices
