On Trump & radical right ideology. Jean-François Drolet, a leading researcher into the 'World of the Right', talks to Alex and Lee about Donald Trump's coveting of Greenland, and puts the move into its ideological context. What is the paleoconservative worldview, how is it different from the neoconservative one, and which is more influential in the Trump regime? How does paleoconservatism translate into actual foreign policy? What's in Trump's new National Security Strategy? Are we back to a 19th century-style 'spheres of influence' arrangement? Does the radical right's foreign policy lead back to a populist kind of isolationism – or to a 'civilisational nationalism'? Will Trump solidify the transatlantic alliance, or generate a rift? Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary of Donald Trump's inauguration as the 47th president of the United States. In the past year, we've watched as Trump delivered on his campaign promises of “mass deportation now” with violent assaults on immigrant communities, most recently in our neighboring state of Minnesota. On today's show, host Ali Muldrow is joined by scholar Sara McKinnon to talk about what has been predictable and surprising about the Trump administration's immigration enforcement. McKinnon says that the scale and speed of what has been put in place is unprecedented, from deportation flights, detention, to ICE raids. We've seen that ICE activity in city centers has become more visible, public, and long lasting, with sometimes months-long occupations and tactics that challenge what is lawful. The rhetoric that justifies mass deportation relies on a message of crime and criminality that has been popular with Christian nationalists. On Trump's first day in office, he limited the Refugee Resettlement Program from 125,000 recipients to 7,500, which will be available to white South Africans. They also discuss the power and authority of ICE to kill at will, as with the killing of Renee Good earlier this month, the exponential growth of ICE forces and detention centers, and the racially motivated fear of immigrants that the Right cultivates. Sara McKinnon is Professor of Rhetoric, Politics & Culture in the Department of Communication Arts, and Faculty Director of Latin American, Caribbean & Iberian Studies at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. McKinnon has published three books, including Gendered Asylum: Race and Violence in U.S. Law and Politics (University of Illinois Press, 2016), which examines the gender discourse that emerged in U.S. immigration and refugee law between the 1980 Refugee Act and 2014. Her current research explores the dynamics of human migration in Latin America and analyzes foreign policy relations and rhetoric in a transnational context. Additionally, she leads a collaborative project aimed at expanding legal information about US immigration and refugee programs, as well as legal counsel available to migrants across the Americas, helping them to explore options for safe migration and residence. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman – MBS – will be welcomed at the White House on his first visit to Washington since the killing of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi led to global outrage. MBS has always denied involvement in Khashoggi's murder. Nevertheless, both he and Saudi Arabia were ostracised after the killing. Tuesday's meeting between President Trump and Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler will build on a relationship between the two leaders which has endured the scandal. But can both parties walk away from these strategic talks with what they want? On Trump's part, some movement towards the Abraham Accords; and for MBS, a chunky defence package. Here are the top stories from businessline, September 23, 2025 GST rate cuts, income tax relief to have multiplier effect on GDP numbers: CEA Nageswaran Chief Economic Advisor V. Anantha Nageswaran says the recent GST rate cuts and Income Tax relief will significantly boost GDP through a multiplier effect, with a total impact estimated at over ₹2.5 lakh crore. He called GST 2.0 a landmark reform that will drive domestic demand. Despite concerns about a ₹48,000 crore fiscal hit from GST cuts and slower direct tax collections, he's confident of meeting the 4.4% fiscal deficit target, citing strong non-tax revenues and festive season demand. On Trump-era tariffs, he expects a short-term drag on growth but says GST reforms could offset the impact. Long-term, he believes India's FDI appeal remains strong. For Q2, GDP is likely to stay close to the 7% mark, based on current indicators. Student visa arrivals to US hit four-year low as Trump policies bite student arrivals to the US fell 19% in August year-on-year, hitting just over 313,000 — the lowest August number since 2021. It marks the fifth straight month of decline, with overall student entries down nearly 12% for the year so far. The drop is most severe among Asian students, especially from India, where arrivals plunged 46%. Tighter immigration rules, paused visa interviews, and increased vetting — including social media checks — have created major hurdles for applicants. Universities now face a projected $7 billion revenue loss this fall. With international students contributing nearly $44 billion to the US economy annually, experts warn that continued declines could erode America's leadership in science, technology, and innovation. Mid-size IT firms say “no significant impact” of new H-1B visa fee Mid-size Indian IT firms expect minimal impact from the new $100,000 H-1B visa fee, having already reduced their reliance on these visas. Companies like Mphasis and Hexaware report low H-1B use, limiting near-term effects, while larger firms like LTIMindtree may face bigger losses. The sector's shift to offshore work, which is more profitable, could offset revenue drops from fewer on-site projects. Analysts estimate a modest margin hit of 10-100 basis points by FY27, mainly affecting critical roles with no local alternatives.

“It's time for Jerome Powell to put on his big boy pants and say, no, inflation is not the bigger problem,” says Danielle DiMartino Booth, CEO and Chief Strategist for QI Research. In today's interview with Daniela Cambone, Booth argues that the Fed should prioritize employment, as true inflation is low and declining—especially in housing—while job losses continue and consumer purchasing power weakens. “Companies are saying in no uncertain terms, they don't have pricing power because U.S. consumers don't have purchasing power." On Trump's tax bill, she aligns with Elon Musk, warning that it will increase the deficit and national debt. “This gravy train was supposed to end at the end of 2025… you're not stimulating the US economy. You're simply preventing a negative shock to the system,” she concludes. On Trump's government, his motives and his modus operandi. Political theorist Corey Robin talks to Alex H and contributing editors Lee Jones and Alex Gourevitch about Trump II from a domestic perspective. We look at the three main things he's done so far: cutting the civil service, imposing economic sanctions domestically, and his immigration terror politics. Is Trump a strong president? Does the reliance on executive orders indicate weakness? What happened to the #Resistance? Why has the tariff issue, instead of uniting Republicans as in the 19th century, divided them? Is the bond market the main force limiting Trump's agenda? Has Bernie Sanders' prediction come true – this is now an oligarchy? Does Trump just represent patrimonialism and even gangsterism? This week on Hafta, Newslaundry's Abhinandan Sekhri, Raman Kirpal, Manisha Pande, and Shardool Katyayan are joined by Semafor's business reporter Rohan Goswami and political consultant and federalism expert Tara Krishnaswamy. On Trump's flip-flop on tariffs and the escalating trade war with China, Rohan says: “Trump created tremendous panic. He got what he wanted. World leaders are calling and begging him... but a 90-day pause is not enough.” He highlights that, unlike the COVID-19 pandemic and the 2008 financial crisis, America's current market chaos is a “self-inflicted situation”.Manisha analyses the common threads between Narendra Modi's demonetisation policy and Trump's tariffs. Shardool adds, “Trump is famous because he is funny. He should be made the TV-President because he understands TV best.”The panel also discusses the Supreme Court's scathing remarks about the Tamil Nadu Governor earlier this week. Tara remarks,“The time has come to either define the Governor's role – starting from appointment to powers – in a bilateral manner, or abolish the position and assign its duties to the appropriate authorities.”Raman adds, “The battle between chief ministers and governors has increased tremendously since 2014.”This and a lot more. [For the full episode, subscribe at patreon.com/bungacast] Contributing editor Lee Jones talks to Alex about the tariffs, as they try to reconstruct the Trump admin's thinking, and consider avenues and consequences. Why is this a retro-80s moment, and how much does China take the role that Japan used to in Trump's thinking? How much strategy is there to this? Is it possible to disentangle the competing logics? Is this a return to the 19th century: small state, no income tax, high tariff walls? How credible an attempt at reindustrialising the US is this? Is Trump trying to weaken the dollar? On Trump's return and the end of the End of History (still!) Historian and Jacobin contributing editor Matt Karp joins us to extract the true meaning of the US election. We discuss: How Trump's victory explodes so many Democrat assumptions about demography and identity How this election re-writes the past ten years' history Whether Trump still retains an anti-political or anti-establishment charge If the Democrats are preponderant in leading sectors of the knowledge economy, is this a political rejection of its assumptions? How to place this election in the sweep of the global anti-incumbency wave What the relationship is between inflation, labour and legitimacy Links: Power Lines, Matt Karp, Harper's It's Happening Again, Matt Karp, Jacobin Democrats join 2024's graveyard of incumbents, John Burn-Murdoch, FT /262/ The Useless Past ft. A reflection on the 2024 election and who tells your story. On Trump's victory: market implications of a supply side boost from deregulation clashing against inflationary impulses of tariffs and deportations. The ten year Treasury will be the most reliable barometer of all. To conclude, an ode to vaccines and an RFK bibliography.
Judith Butler is Distinguished Professor in the Graduate School and formerly the Maxine Elliot Chair in the Department of Comparative Literature and the Program of Critical Theory at the University of California, Berkeley. In this episode, Robinson and Judith discuss three broad topics. First, they talk about Judith's latest book, Who's Afraid of Gender? (Farrar, Straus and Giroux, 2024). In particular, they touch on the dynamics of sex and gender, as well as their political dimensions. Second, the conversation turns to the 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris. Finally, they broach the topic of Israel and Palestine, with particular attention to the questions of genocide and anti-semitism. Join us today to support the kind of independent media you want to exist.“There are concert lines around the world for people trying to get in on this dream”On Trump's recent comments on blocking immigration from “infested” countries:What I hear is a wannabe Nazi — without the organizational skills. I hear someone who is literally reclaiming language from the 1930s and 1940s in Germany — “vermin,” “infestation.”This is the language of someone who is not just trying to win an election, although they are trying to do that. This is the language of someone who is trying to build a pretext for what he might do if in office. He's talked about deporting millions and millions of people on a scale that would require 24/7 train cars and buses — and camps, to use another mid-20th century word. But also, I think — and the example of the Haitian community in Springfield illustrates this — someone who is using a modern media environment to spread information, put out lies, that will then possibly inspire other people, private actors, to do things in their own name, with deniability for Donald Trump. Activating his stand-up-and-stand-back-and-stand-by paramilitary friends to go do all manner of things to vulnerable people.Because once you're telling millions and millions of people that there's vermin around, there's infestation, they're taking over the country, there's a replacement scheme/scam happening, violence will happen. On Trump and Vance's dehumanization of Haitian immigrants in Ohio based on lies about what they ate:It was a trifecta for me. I am a native Ohioan. I am a son of immigrants. And I'm a passionate eater and cook. And so this sudden national story about this dehumanization of immigrants based on what they eat [brought up] a couple of things.First of all, in a lot of countries in the world with unstable political systems and high levels of violence, lies about what other people eat are actually crucial to how political violence happens. In India, where my family comes from, if you look at most episodes of lynchings or riots, it is Hindus and Muslims and rumors about, I smelled pork, I smelled beef, you're inappropriately smuggling something you shouldn't have been eating.A lot of countries in the world have taboos around food — and violence. So what was happening in Ohio is a playbook that is very familiar. If you've covered politics in developing countries, it is a classic dehumanization thing to say these people are the other. As Kendrick Lamar would say, “They not like us.” They eat differently from us.On what immigrants do eat:But it got me thinking: What do immigrants eat? Because immigrants don't eat what Donald Trump and J.D. Vance are lying about. One thing immigrants eat in this country is flavors that everybody else eventually eats and capitalizes on. And then you have gochujang in fancy little New American restaurants, and you have fish sauce in a vinaigrette several years later. But immigrants are people who bring that flavor to us — and what is multiracial democracy but flavor?Immigrants swallow their pride, often, to come to this country — come to places like Springfield, Ohio, often do jobs that they wouldn't have had to do back home. They are computer programmers back home, they work in a gas station in Springfield because they know that, to rise in America, you must first fall sometimes. So they eat their own pride. They often eat very little in the hope that their children will eat like kings. They eat the cheapest food they can get at Costco because they can taste what their grandchildren, unborn grandchildren, will eat one day. When I was growing up in Ohio, in my immigrant family, we ate pasta some days because my mom actually really enjoyed the freedom that America gave her as an Indian woman to not spend all the time in the kitchen, like Indian women like her would've spent back home. And sometimes we ate Indian food because she wanted us to have something of where she came from and to sustain the past forward. So these people are trying to get folks killed with lies about what immigrants eat. But I wanted to share with folks in my experience what immigrants do eat.On 7 a.m. lines worldwide and protecting not just the border but also the dreamWe're in the 7 a.m. hour, and I have an image seared in my memory. I have the privilege in my job of reporting from around the world. There is a 7 a.m. image that I have seen in many, many countries around the world, which a lot of Americans watching this may not have seen.Which is that at 7 a.m., in capitals around the world, when life is not very active in particular cities, there is a long line always outside the American embassy or the American consulate. When life is at a standstill at 7 a.m. in New Delhi, India, there is a line outside that embassy. We are sitting around this table, sitting at home, maybe in a funk about America. We may be despairing about America. We may think our democracy's unraveling, and this is happening and that's happening, and everything's going to the dogs. But even when we are in our deepest funk, that line — I have never seen that line go down. That line is like a concert line in capital after capital after capital. So instead of just having this conversation about how we protect the border, let's step back. Let's channel what Ronald Reagan said in his farewell address, where we remember that we are a country made of the world, and it is actually the secret of our greatness. And the fact that, even at our lowest lows, there are concert lines around the world for people trying to get in on this dream — it should make us buck up, but it should also make us remember not to shut this country to the energy and new blood that has always made it what it is.A request for those who haven't yet joined us: The interviews and essays that we share here take research and editing and much more. We're fresh off another attempt on Trump's life, and some members of the Left are blaming these assassination attempts on Trump for running his mouth. Do you agree, or is the Left ignoring the bigger picture?: Trump hasn't been given nearly enough protection. We hear from Dr. Thaer Ahmad, a Palestinian American doctor who spent time in Gaza trying to administer to a civilian population under relentless siege. Plus, Constitutional scholar, Bruce Fein, takes apart the Supreme Court's decision to grant the president of the United States the powers of a king. Dr. Thaer Ahmad is a Palestinian-American emergency physician who has made numerous relief trips to Gaza. Dr. Ahmad is Assistant Program Director for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program at Chicago's Advocate Christ Medical Center. He also serves as the Global Health Director and Medical Ethics Director for the Emergency Department at Advocate Christ. Dr. Ahmad is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago and a board member for MedGlobal, a medical humanitarian NGO that works at building healthcare capacity and reducing health inequities globally.I don't think [Palestinian healthcare workers] get enough credit for what they've had to deal with over these last several months… These doctors are also displaced. Their families are displaced. They are living out of tents and they are showing up every day at the hospital to treat the community that's there. They've not been paid—the health ministry collapsed—they have no money. They're totally dependent on the scarce aid that gets in. These doctors are showing up to work when they should be in line at the bakeries that are producing some of the bread—where they should be in line collecting some of the aid that's being distributed. But they're showing up.Dr. Thaer AhmadI work with MedGlobal. They're doing fantastic work on the ground. They're in Gaza—more than 110 physicians and nurses who are Gazans are running medical points throughout the Gaza Strip. They have a malnutrition center that they're also using to help with the starvation that we were talking about. So I think that that's an excellent organization to contribute to—medglobal.org .Dr. Thaer AhmadBruce Fein is a Constitutional scholar and an expert on international law. Mr. Fein was Associate Deputy Attorney General under Ronald Reagan and he is the author of Constitutional Peril: The Life and Death Struggle for Our Constitution and Democracy, and American Empire: Before the Fall.[On Trump v. United States]: The court gave nothing more than the equivalent of, “We know when it's not immune when we see it, but otherwise you try to guess what that's going to be.”Bruce FeinIt's a judicial counter-revolution. It's a violation because it basically turns the Constitution into a scrap of paper—it means whatever the Justices want it to mean. It doesn't have to find even a single word in the Constitution to justify the opinion.Bruce FeinIt's really a judicial coup d'etat that occurred on July 1, 2024. It's hard to fathom the belief that these six judges think they're going to get away with it. There is going to be all kinds of damage to all kinds of people—regardless of their political labels—and there's going to be a big pushback. Do they think they're going to get away with it? These unelected, lifetime-position judges?Ralph NaderNews 7/10/24 In Case You Haven't Heard with Francesco DeSantis1. Haaretz reports that in the immediate wake of the October 7th attack, the Israeli Defense Forces implemented the ominously named “Hannibal directive” which “directs the use of force to prevent soldiers being taken into captivity.” In other words, the explicit order of the Israeli military was for Israelis to kill Israeli soldiers to prevent them from being taken hostage by Hamas, in order to deny the group leverage in negotiations. As Haaretz reports, this directive also put civilian lives at risk. The Hannibal Directive had been a secretive but official Israeli policy since the 1986 capture of three soldiers by Hezbollah in Lebanon, but was formally revoked in 2016. 2. Lancet, the prestigious British medical journal, has published a study estimating that as many as 186,000 people have been killed in Gaza as a direct or indirect result of the genocidal Israeli military campaign. This casualty count, far higher than the commonly cited figure of under 40,000, supports estimates offered by advocates. If accurate, this would mean Israel has wiped out nearly 8% of the total population of the Gaza Strip. 3. Due to previous legal entanglements, the United Autoworkers union is subject to a consent decree with the federal government. Included within this consent decree is a federal monitor assigned to the union. Yet, the Detroit News reports that this monitor, Neil Barofsky, went far beyond his mandate to pressure the union over its position on the crisis in Gaza. According to this report, following UAW's official call for ceasefire, Barofsky called UAW president Shawn Fain to share his “concerns” about the union's position. Later, Barofsky signed off on an email which included an ADL complaint about the union's call for a ceasefire. Benjamin Dictor, outside counsel for the UAW, wrote to Barofsky saying “Your call to President Fain on an issue so blatantly outside of the Monitor's jurisdiction was inappropriate…[and] represents a surprising lack of integrity.” 4. More misbehavior from the ADL is on display in a recent expose from the Guardian. According to this report, based on a leaked internal memo from 2020, “the ADL collected information on a Black Indianapolis activist, Tatjana Rebelle, who worked on Deadly Exchange, a national campaign against an ADL-backed program to send US police officials for training with the Israeli military.” Rebelle is quoted in this piece saying “It scared the s**t out of me…It stopped me from moving forward because I don't want to put people in my life at risk – I work with youth, so it stopped me in my tracks.” The ADL calls itself the “leading anti-hate organization in the world,” with a straight face. 5. AP reports Boeing has taken the deal offered by the Department of Justice, and will “will plead guilty to a criminal fraud charge stemming from two crashes of 737 Max jetliners that killed 346 people.” The plea deal, which must still be approved by a federal judge, dictates that Boeing must pay an additional $243.6 million fine and submit to independent monitor-ship for three years, among other provisions. Ike Riffel, whose sons Melvin and Bennett died in the Ethiopian Airlines crash, is quoted saying “Boeing has paid fines many a time…When people start going to prison, that's when you are going to see a change.” 6. President Biden shows no intention of stepping aside as the Democratic nominee. This is despite open calls from prominent Democratic lawmakers, such as Jerrold Nadler and Adam Schiff, as well as a full-blown revolt from major Democratic donors like Abigail Disney. Recent polls show Biden losing most swing states by a substantial margin, including an AARP poll in Wisconsin showing him running 12 points behind Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin. Infuriating many of those who wish to avoid a second Trump term, Axios reports “President Biden indicated…[in his interview with George Stephanopolous] that he would be at peace if he lost to former President Trump ‘as long as I gave it my all.'” 7. Hurricane Beryl is ravaging Texas, leaving millions without power, according to CNN. This widespread power outage will only compound an incoming heatwave, with the Houston heat index reaching 100 degrees on Tuesday. Las Vegas hit a record high temperature of 120 degrees the same day, per Fox 5. As many have remarked, this is likely to be the coldest summer for the rest of our lives. 8. The Daily Beast reports the Pope has excommunicated Carlo Maria Vigano, an ultra-conservative archbishop who served as the Vatican's ecclesiastical diplomat to Washington from 2011 to 2016. A long time opponent of Pope Francis, Vigano has become increasingly unhinged in his criticisms, including accusing the supreme pontiff of being a “servant of Satan.” Other wild claims he has made in recent years include retweeting a Marjorie Taylor Greene post stating that “The Covid vaccines are killing people,” and calling Black Lives Matter protests the machinations of “the children of darkness.” Vigano was accused of schism and found guilty. 9. In the United Kingdom, the New Arab reports five pro-Gaza independent candidates won seats in the House of Commons, including Shockat Adam, who defeated shadow Cabinet minister Jonathan Ashworth. Most prominent of these however is Left-wing luminary and former Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who successfully defended his seat in Islington North after being expelled from the Labour Party over his criticism of Israel. Reuters reports that upon his victory, Corbyn said voters are “looking for a government that on the world stage will search for peace, not war.” 10. Finally, beating all expectations, the French Left emerged victorious from the second round of legislative elections. The New Popular Front lead by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, won the most seats, followed by Macron's centrist bloc, after the two formed a “Republican Front” to defeat the Far-right, led by Marine Le Pen. Now, negotiations are underway to choose the country's next Prime Minister, according to France24. Mélenchon has campaigned on a very simple platform, stating “I'm not saying we will create a paradise from one day to the next, but we will put an end to hell.” This has been Francesco DeSantis, with In Case You Haven't Heard. GENERAL ELECTION–STATE OF PLAY The 2024 presidential debates have been unveiled “The Commission on Presidential Debates announced Monday that the three 2024 presidential debates will be held next year on Sept. 16, Oct. 1 and Oct. 9. “(https://www.axios.com/2023/11/20/2024-election-debates-biden-trump-republicans ) Swing states that are expected to decide the 2024 presidential election “The titanic Biden-Trump election likely will be decided by roughly 6% of voters in just six states, top strategists in both parties tell us.” (https://www.axios.com/2024/05/06/biden-trump-election-swing-states ) POTUS CANDIDATE: BIDEN Biden's historic marijuana shift is his latest election year move for young voters PHOENIX (AP) — President Joe Biden may eventually ban TikTok, but he's moving to give something back to the young people who dominate the popular social media app — a looser federal grip on marijuana.” (https://apnews.com/article/biden-young-voters-marijuana-reclassification-dea-193e97fc2dd7b32b7d7ad50b4ea80aa0 ) Biden touts new $3.3 billion Microsoft data center at failed Foxconn site Trump backed “U.S. President Joe Biden on Wednesday unveiled plans by Microsoft Corp to build a $3.3 billion data center in southeastern Wisconsin, drawing a sharp contrast to his Republican predecessor who had backed a previous $10 billion project at the same site that was significantly scaled back.” (https://www.reuters.com/world/us/biden-unveil-33-billion-microsoft-ai-investment-battleground-wisconsin-2024-05-08/ ) Axios Poll of College Voters - Next Gen America (https://www.google.com/url?q=https://www.axios.com/2024/05/07/poll-students-israel-hamas-protests&sa=D&source=docs&ust=1715304228880446&usg=AOvVaw2gVrmRZ0q-sgs2JekbcTPA ) POTUS CANDIDATE: TRUMP Trump reportedly solicited $1 billion from oil executives to support his campaign, offering them concessions related to climate policies in return. This development underscores the high stakes of the upcoming 2024 election, particularly in the realm of climate policy. While President Biden has implemented numerous regulations aimed at addressing climate change, Trump, who has a history of rolling back such regulations and dismissing climate change as a hoax, presents a starkly different approach. The intersection of Trump's skepticism towards climate science and penchant for corruption poses a significant challenge and opportunity for the Biden campaign. This recent revelation highlights the critical importance of the election in shaping the future direction of environmental policy. Recent polls indicate that a significant portion of voters lack awareness of President Biden's major domestic accomplishments, such as the Inflation Reduction Act, which featured substantial climate investments and green incentives for both businesses and individuals. Furthermore, there is a lack of understanding among voters regarding Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Plan, with some mistakenly attributing similar achievements to former President Trump, despite his failure to deliver on infrastructure promises during his tenure. This highlights the urgent need for the Biden campaign to educate the public on how his policies positively impact their communities. In contrast, Trump's apparent willingness to prioritize personal gain by making promises to oil companies further underscores the contrasting approaches of the two leaders on critical issues like climate and infrastructure. Recently, the spotlight has focused on ex-president Donald Trump breaking his silence on Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s independent presidential bid. It was once speculated that Kennedy might be chosen as Trump's running mate. On Trump's Truth Social platform, he vocally criticizes Kennedy's bid, labeling the vote for him as a 'wasted protest vote', and shockingly claims he would prefer Biden over 'Junior'. Kennedy's candidacy has been a contentious issue in both Democratic and Republican camps. Democrats see him as diverting votes from the current President, Joe Biden, while Republicans fear he may syphon votes away from Trump in the upcoming election. Kennedy has become a disruptive independent card in the political game. Continuing his tirade on Truth Social against RFK Jr., Trump portrays Kennedy as a 'Democrat 'Plant'' specifically positioned to bolster Biden's reelection chances. Trump outlines several policy areas where Kennedy arguably tilts towards left, possibly appeasing that demographic. Exclaiming that RFK Jr. is actually a 'Radical Left Liberal', Trump accuses Kennedy of being part of a calculated strategy to support 'Crooked Joe Biden', who he goes on to label as the 'Worst President in the History of the United States'. He insists Kennedy's win would be a 'WASTED PROTEST VOTE', that could favor the Democrats if Republicans remained clueless about his real agenda.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

What would a second Trump presidency look like? We dive deep into the detailed plans that have emerged on the Right for what they want to do immediately upon getting back to power. Almost two years ago, “Project 2025” was launched under the leadership of the Heritage Foundation. Different factions on the Right are preparing separate plans, but “Project 2025” stands out because it unites much of the conservative machine behind the goal of installing a much more effective, more ruthless rightwing regime. We look at the people behind these plans and what animates them – specifically Kevin Roberts, the president of Heritage, who embodies the siege mentality, self-victimization, and grievance-driven lust for revenge that is fueling the Right. And we dissect the plans and proposals “Project 2025” has to offer, department by department: The goal is to vastly expand presidential power and transform American government into a revenge machine, purge tens of thousands of federal employees and replace them all with loyalists. Already, “Project 2025” is engaged in an unprecedented headhunting operation to ensure ideological conformity. We discuss the tension between the goals of weaponizing the government while dismantling the “deep state” at the same time, and how it is indicative of a larger conflict on the Right between a “traditionalist” and a more rightwing-libertarian wing. Finally, we reflect on why a second Trump term would be much more dangerous, as it could rely on a fully Trumpified GOP in Congress, on a supermajority on the Supreme Court, and on the prospect of escalating violence as the ubiquitous threat against anyone daring to defy Trumpism. On Trump's orders, Republicans in Congress double down on killing the bipartisan border deal. Both Joe Biden and Nikki Haley hit Trump's memory lapses while campaigning in South Carolina. And, the Biden Campaign starts to preview its 2024 strategy—including a big surrogate operation, empowering social media influencers, and—maybe!—an endorsement from Taylor Swift.
