Highly sensitive women may feel childhood wounds deeply. In this episode of the Awaken Your Wise Woman podcast, host Elizabeth Cush talks about how your parts help protect you and how you can heal. “We're learning to build a compassionate, kind loving relationship with ourself. Through that process, all parts of us learn to trust us.” — Biz Cush Not all childhood wounds are physical. If we didn't get our emotional needs met when we were young, we can carry those hurts with us well into adulthood. We can feel the impact of those childhood traumas on both our physical and mental health, in turn affecting how we show up in the world. In this episode of the Awaken Your Wise Woman podcast, host Biz Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist, founder of Progression Counseling in Maryland and Delaware, and a life coach for highly sensitive women, talks about adverse childhood experiences like childhood emotional neglect, the mechanisms we develop to cope with them and how they show up in our “parts.” She'll also share how Internal Family Systems (IFS) work—getting to know our parts and approaching them with curiosity and compassion when they are triggered—can help us build a kind, caring relationship with ourselves that meets the needs of our bodies and our emotions, helps heal those old wounds, and empowers us to show up in the world from a more grounded place. You can find all the resources mentioned and the full show notes here. April 2025 Meet-up for Highly Sensitive Women.

I'm honored to be joined by my inspiring, powerhouse friend, Roxanne Granata, for today's episode! Roxanne is an Empowered Relationships Coach who specializes in healing the nervous system through Internal Family Systems (IFS - also known as Partswork) and Somatics. Her journey began a little over a decade ago when she experienced betrayal trauma with her now ex-husband, and his hidden addiction to pornography. In this episode, we will cover: Roxanne's story of discovering her first husband's addiction + the powerful healing journey and new career that happened for her as a result Learning to set boundaries and surrender the outcome, no matter how scary or out of control it feels like Key differences of standard talk therapy vs. EMDR The power of Partswork (IFS) therapy + what it's like to actually find and ‘talk' to a part of you that needs healing Understanding that having awareness and being very intentional about the ‘work' you're doing will positively impact and heal your kids + future generations Realizing that it's not about fixing every aspect of your life, but instead, fixing and healing YOU Resources & Links: Altogether You by Jenna Riemersma Gather in Growth Sponsorship Inquiry More info on the Ignite + Grow Micromind Join the Ignite + Grow Micromind waitlist Learn more about my speaking Get your YouDoYou32 tracker! On today's episode, Dr. Rick and Forrest focus on one of the most important skills we can learn: how we can become more aware of all the parts of our experience, avoid being captured by any one of them, and work with those parts more skillfully. One of the key tools we have for accomplishing this is vedanā, or the “feeling tone” of our experience. Author and meditation teacher Dr. Danny Penman joins the show to explore the role of vedanā, how we can help our brain interpret the world more accurately, and practical tools for relaxing suffering and enjoying life. About our Guest: Danny Penman is a meditation teacher, an award-winning writer and journalist, and the co-author of the classic Mindfulness with Dr. Mark Williams. Dr. Williams was one of the original creators of Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). What do you know about “parts” work? If you listen regularly to Awaken Your Wise Woman, you'll be familiar with Internal Family Systems (IFS). If you're a new listener, this episode will open you to new possibilities. Host Biz Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist, founder of Progression Counseling in Annapolis, Md., and a life coach for highly sensitive women, recently attended the IFS conference, where she was trained in a variety of techniques for using IFS to help therapy and coaching clients get in touch with all their parts and create the compassionate and understanding relationships with those parts that lead to healing. Listen as she shares her experience and insights into this information-packed program. “This is your opportunity to help you bring your body, your soul, yourself, your parts into the work to find a deeper level of healing, of understanding, of compassion, of curiosity, and to the next part of your journey.” — Biz Cush You can find the full show notes for this and every episode here.
None of us live in a vacuum. We live in families, in communities. In this episode of Awaken Your Wise Woman, host Elizabeth Cush talks with Catherine Quiring about healing systemic harms—for ourselves and the world. We often talk about how our early family live has shaped how we think, feel and react to life. But what about the bigger systems we're raised within—religion, for example, or the culture where we live. What is their impact? And how can we heal the wounds they might cause us? In this episode of the Awaken Your Wise Woman podcast, host Elizabeth Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist, founder of Progression Counseling in Annapolis, Md., and a mid-life women's life coach, welcomes Catherine Quiring, a fellow therapist and coach in Florida, for a discussion of the how our belief systems shape us and the world around us. They talk about the need for empathy and how breaking free from systems that burden us can help us get back to ourselves and our values—and maybe make a better world. “We need to acknowledge the harm—and that's actually really healing for both sides, if we allow it.” — Catherine Quiring Find the full show notes and other episodes here.
We all have those painful times that bring up fear, overwhelm, or insecurities. In this episode I teach you a practical and simple Partswork tool to let go of the burden you are carrying and be able to show up at events or in difficult situations feeling strong, empowered, and able to experience joy. You don't have to hold onto all of the pain. You can let it go and still feel in control.
If you're like just about everyone else in the world, you've tried to make some changes to your eating habits and have probably been met with limited success. And one of the biggest reasons for this is that parts of you actually didn't want to make those changes. Let me explain. When we want to make a change in our behavior--any behavior really--we tend to have parts that want to make that change and parts that don't. For example, you may have parts that are gung-ho about starting that new exercise regimen and parts that are perfectly happy on the couch. Or parts that are psyched about trying out that new cookbook and parts that are more than happy to order Door Dash. And, of course, parts that want to stop emotional eating and parts that don't want to let go of food. Many times, the parts of us that don't want to change are fearful or concerned about things being different. They're protective parts who don't want us to get hurt, so they will stop us from making changes, even ones that we know will be good for us. This is why we need to get all (or at least most) of our parts on board when we're trying to make any type of change. Especially the parts that have fears and concerns about doing something different. Even when we're trying to make changes that we know will be helpful to us, we still have parts that are fearful of change. On this week's podcast, we're talking about the common fears and concerns that our parts tend to have when we try to change our relationship with food and our bodies. Some of these fears and concerns are: Fear of failure: what if this change doesn't work? Fear of success: what if it does? Fear of losing food as a comfort mechanism Fear of gaining or losing weight Fear of people noticing and commenting on what you're doing Fear of not knowing who you are if you don't struggle with food The list above is not exhaustive. You likely have parts that have other fears about changing your relationship with food. It's absolutely worth getting to know allllllll of your parts that carry concerns. As we say in IFS (Internal Family Systems), we can't go anywhere that our protectors aren't ready to go, so we must get to know them. If you've tried to making changes in your relationship with food to no avail, it might be because you haven't addressed the parts that have fears and concerns. Take a listen to learn more!
Christ is before all things, and in him all things hold together. – Colossians 1:17 Friends, What vision of the human person and the way of restoration do our Scriptures offer? Consider these verses: So many times I have longed to gather your wayward children together around me… (Luke 13:34 TPT) Like a city that is broken down and without walls [leaving it unprotected] is a man who has no self-control over his spirit [and sets himself up for trouble]. (Proverbs 25:28 AMP) They will forget their shame and all their unfaithfulness….When I have brought them back from the nations and have gathered them from the scattered countries of their enemies…then they will know that I am the Lord their God, for I will gather them to their own land, not leaving any behind. (Ezekiel 39 NIV) These verses refer to the restoration of fragmented communities, but could this pattern be relevant to our inner healing as well? As Dallas taught in Renovation of the Heart, the individual is also divided into incoherent fragments. If gathering around God's Kingdom is heaven's pattern to heal external communities, could a like-kind reunion of our scattered inner parts around the Presence of the Triune God be the path to restoring internal harmony and peace? Let's find out together. In the final episode of the BGS Parts Work series, we're returning to a fresh session on the big ideas of parts work where Cherie and I taught as a team. We conclude the session with a beautiful and bold opportunity to put into practice some of this deep integrative work. All of the meditations within the series, additional resources, and referenced materials can be found at BecomeGoodsoil.com/PartsWork. For the Kingdom, Morgan
Does your inner critic point out all the reasons why you shouldn't do something? Does your perfectionist chime in in agreement? If so, you may find yourself missing out—or pushing yourself harder and harder. Ultimately you wind up feeling unfulfilled and/or overwhelmed. Many women struggle with their perfectionism and their inner critic. They find it hard to take care of themselves—or even to be kind to themselves. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way. In this episode of Awaken Your Wise Woman, host Biz Cush, LCPC, a licensed professional therapist, founder of Progression Counseling in Annapolis, Md., and a mid-life women's life coach, looks at the inner critic, perfectionism and lack of self-care through the lens of Internal Family Systems (IFS), otherwise known as “parts work.” She explains the role of each and shares insights from her own personal journey and explains how you can use a practice of self-compassion to calm those parts and create a better relationship with yourself. “Our inner critic and perfectionist parts interplay in such dramatic ways that sometimes we don't even recognize what's happening.” — Biz Cush Find the full show notes and resources for this and every episode here.
I will not leave you as orphans. – Jesus of Nazareth Friends, We're deep in this series exploring a path and process to integrate a man's soul under the care and direction of the Triune God. In Part 5, I'm inviting you to put this process into practice. Through the help of a trusted guide, Grant Leitheiser, this episode offers a personal experience of care for the fragmented parts of your soul. When you're ready and have an hour of protected time for your soul, dive in here. For the entire series and all the related visuals, resources, and more, go to BecomeGoodSoil.com/PartsWork. IFS stands for Internal family systems. This modality can help you understand the way your conscious and subconscious mind operates. This has drastically improved my ability to communicate through difficult moments with my partner. If you are familiar with parts work, this is very similar to that but better in my opinion. Want Trevor to help you understand your internal family system?
I have a quick episode for you today. I want to share an important IFS tip, especially for those who have kind of doing their own lay work and you haven't had official training. This is one of the best, most important things that my very first IFS coach slash therapist shared with me […]
In this episode, I chat about my new program the VIBE & Embodiment Certificate starting on April 30th. Learning how to notice what parts of us are wounded and how to heal the past can be done with Partswork (AKA IFS-Internal Family Systems) I walk you through exactly what that looks like, why it works, and how to stay neutral when it comes to dealing with the opposition that for sure shows up in our lives on a regular basis. Past wounds do not have to rule our decisions. It's possible to clear those and become free and clear.

How do you own who you are? First, you need to learn what makes you you. You are made up of many different parts. Some have formed to give you unique passions, skills, likes, and dislikes, while some have formed to keep you safe over a period of time. What being safe can look like is staying small. This means not taking chances in professional settings or in relationships, not speaking up about your values, wants and needs, not setting boundaries, or taking care of others before you take care of yourself. Staying small prevents the gifts of your soul from shining bright. You shy away from these precious abilities because you don't want to upset anybody or be seen and rejected. What if you owned all of who you are? What would your life be like? I bet you would be more present and love yourself deeper. I bet you would speak up for yourself because you are connected to your desires. I bet you would have higher self-worth. I bet you would spend your days feeling happier. You can own who you are and be proud of yourself. You deserve it, because you work so hard every day. Every challenge you have faced has made you stronger, and shaped you to be even greater. It is time you own who you are! It is time you own your inner light! You are loved! To learn more about Love With Liana, please visit: @LoveWithLiana.
Do you have a professional side at work and a personal side that you only show to family and friends? If so, you’re not alone. Woman Worriers host Elizabeth Cush talks about her personal journey toward recognizing all the different parts of her self and having them live in harmony.
Every single person in your life is a reflection of you, in one way or another! Ever thought about why opposites attract? On today's episode I speak with Marushka Glissen, an assistant trainer with the IFS Institute about legacy burdens. Legacy burdens are the feelings, beliefs, perspectives, ways of being in the world, etc. which are passed on from generation to generation. A part of me doesn't want to tell you all we talk about because it is so powerful I want you just to listen. Another part of me who, probably like you, is picky about what I spend time listening to and will read this little blurb in a podcast episode before I commit. So, to honor that part in me- and in you- I will go ahead and tell you. Marushka's parents were Holocaust Survivors who were in Auschwitz. Her Dad was on Schindler's list. Not the movie, the actual list. Do you need to know more? For those parts I'll give some bullet points of what is inside this episode: - Importance of bearing witness - Epigenetics - Zen Peacemakers and Native Americans - Children of Alcoholics and Alcoholic burdens - Anxiety in legacy burdens And, we talk about the trees at Auschwitz. Go listen and enjoy! To learn more about Marushka go to https://www.relationshipvisions.org/

Erickson, considered by many to be one of the founders of the field of modern hypnotherapy. And when i snap my fingers you wil cluck like a duck lol. As her father learned new techniques and strategies, he would come home and both try them out and teach them to his children such that Rachel has been performing PartsWork and refining her reframing skills since the age of 11. WOW After receiving her own bachelor’s degree in psychology from UCLA, Rachel facilitated training for the Southern California Society for Ericksonian Psychotherapy and Hypnosis (SCSEPH), In addition to her work with the Healthy Start Student Support Program, Rachel has enjoyed contributing to her community by sitting on the Board of Directors for the Fawnskin Chamber of Commerce, and she currently holds the position of president of the Mountain Healing Arts Association. While the Reboot Your Kids website lives on, it no longer hosts the podcasts I recorded with Kevin Geary last year. For posterity's sake, I'm putting those shows into the Choice Conversations feed. In this episode, Kevin and I have a discussion with Pete Gerlach about how to raise psychologically healthy children. This episode was never previously released, so this is the first time the world will get to hear this enlightening interview. In addition, since the time of its recording in 2014, Pete Gerlach has passed away, making this a posthumous release.
