Men hur i all världen hamnade hon där? Hon flyttar in i ett kollektiv i Stockholm.

National's Matt Doocey and Labour's Reuben Davidson joined John MacDonald this week for Politics Friday. They discussed Hagley College's idea to trial a flexible model, with students working from home two days a week – how does this fit in with the Government's plans for attendance? Will increasing the visitor levy be the answer to funding issues, or will it be a silver bullet to the tourism industry? Does the Government support the Mayor's letter, asking them to crack down on pokie machine jackpots and add limits to machines in Christchurch? Plus, what really happened with Matt Doocey's interview mixup on the Mike Hosking Breakfast? LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
A report into the viability of Christchurch hosting the Commonwealth Games took 14 hours to write, after it was requested in January. The report, commissioned by Mayor Phil Mauger, from Council and Christchurch NZ recommended Christchurch avoid holding a standalone event. Newstalk ZB has revealed it cost just over $1000 for staff time. Mauger told John MacDonald the report was a big job for Christchurch NZ, which didn't need rushing. He says the city wasn't trying to host the Games sometime in the next year, so they just fitted it when they could. Mauger joined John MacDonald in studio for their regular catchup, giving his thoughts on the Games' report, high rises in the CBD, and his request the Government does more to address the pokie machine harm in Christchurch. We are approaching the midway point for Season 2 of Real Technologists. Senior, Pokie, and I wanted to take a moment to thank you and reflect on the past year. During Season 1, we learned that our eyes were bigger than our stomachs, so to speak. We had decided on an aggressive schedule of weekly podcasts. And like our guests, we learned a big lesson and had to pivot. This Season, Season 2, is focused on sustainability and growth. We love getting to know our guests, learning their stories, and crafting the podcast. Real Technologists is about telling captivating stories and diverse journeys of those shaping our digital future. From the heart of innovation to the forefront of change, technology continues to redefine our world, and behind every breakthrough lies a human narrative waiting to be told. Our team is split. Pokie works from our New York office. Senior and I work together from our Camp Hill location. As radio personality Pete Womback used to say, "It's a beautiful day in Pennsylvania".To keep the quality high and keep ourselves sane, we're delivering bi weekly. We embark on a journey of exploration, uncovering the unique experiences, perspectives, and challenges that have shaped the lives of our guests.

Restaurant and bar owners say a plan by the Department of Internal Affairs to publish the amount of cash taken in by pokie machines at each venue creates a public "shopping list" for thieves, and the harm could be catastrophic. A reformed pokie addict who spent 20 years on the slots wants a North Island council to bin proposed changes to its gambling policy. Ōtorohanga District Council have voted to loosen the rules for venues, moving away from a longstanding 'sinking lid' policy. Public submissions close on April 1, and if the councillors fail to change the original vote, the community could see an increase in pokie machines. Kate Gregan has this report.
Millions of dollars in pokie proceeds are sitting in the bank and not being distributed as community grants due to legal changes pushed through because of the pandemic. Societies that collect the revenue must pay out at least 40 percent, but that threshold was scrapped by the government in July as their revenue stream came to a grinding halt during the lockdown. The societies say they would have gone under without the changes, but others say the cash reserves they have built up shouldn't be held onto. Emma Hatton reports.

Welcome to the Dead Noise podcast. Today we have Ben Hamilton from Kickin The Punt. It is so amazing to be back in the chair with you all and bringing you such an amazing guest today in Ben Hamilton from Kickin the Punt. I’ve recorded several episodes which will be the start in a new series under this Dead Noise banner which will be coming out weekly going forward. From a personal perspective and almost selfish one I jumped at the opportunity to speak with Ben. Pokie machines have not only destroyed the community around me in many ways but have played a detrimental role in my life at times. Like many young Australians I grew up thinking ‘having a punt’ is part of our life, as Aussie as getting blind drunk on Australia Day... until you realise it’s a disgusting and harmful way of life. Pokies need to go and we need to be more vocal about changing the culture that surrounds them. In my opinion there’s few better people qualified then Ben to lead the charge! Like our drinking culture in Australia, our views around gambling need to change. Ben's released a documentary titled Our stories , our truth - The suicide of Gary Van Duinen. Gary took his own life in 2018 because of a pokie machine addiction and the documentary follows his footsteps on that tragic night. Garys story is sadly not an isolated one, where at risk gamblers have a 15 times higher chance of committing suicide, with some studies showing at least 1 in 5 gamblers attempt suicide. Gary spent his final night at his local RSL where he had a long history drinking and gambling. The RSL has a mission statement that outlines their aim to promote government and community awareness of the need for a secure and progressive Australia. You have to ask yourself though, where does filling your clubs with sole destroying, life wrecking, suicide causing pokie machines fit into the community awareness. We’ve come a long way from the Whitlams anthem of blow up the pokies and it seems we are in a much worse place from when the song was released. As a disclaimer this episode does touch on some dark topics. Please if you are uneasy with discussion around mental health and suicide tune out now.
