In this podcast we will discuss the often-overlooked 2007 adaptation of Richard Matheson's I Am Legend. Following Will Smith's rendition of Dr Robert Neville, a virologist and last man on earth, it focuses on the psychological deterioration and complex need for coping mechanisms one would face when confronted with complete existentialism. We will discuss the difficulties of adaptation and where focus can often be shifted with minute changes, forcing different interpretations; as well as how the 2007 version - with its complicated production - is the most poignant when it comes to the horror of isolation. Additionally, we will discuss a key element, which is the paradoxical situation Robert Neville finds himself in, because as the tagline states: The Last man on Earth isn't alone.

Yes, the legendary and timeless novel from Richard Matheson got a comic book adaptation in the 80's and it's a sight to behold. Truly a graphic novel, Steven Niles and Elman Brown adapt the story with gripping words and beautiful art. The art, specifically, is very unique as it is only pencils and ink. With very little dialogue - mostly because the main character, Robert Neville spends the bulk of the story by himself - the story is truly told with words and accompanying pictures. Very unique in the world of comics and a truly special read. Much better than the shitty Will Smith movie.

"An hour in, this is where I think the film jettisons the thoughtful, melancholic and reflective tone for action and it's all the worse for it." Sarah from Weird Horizon returns with yet another feel good film, containing multiple dog deaths. No crushed hands this time. Sarah and Sean then do a really in-depth analysis of the film, before watching the alternative ending and give their verdict on it. Discussion Points: -Dog deaths in film. -The hype for this film back in 2007. -Will Smith's powerhouse performance. -Reviewing this film in a post-pandemic. -The shift in the tone of this film. -The beautiful soundtrack. -Sarah enjoys the little details of how Robert has survived the last three years. -Why Sean wants to turn the film off after an hour. -Expectations versus reality, e.g. the Statue of Liberty's head. -The strength of the melancholic, slow-burn scenes. -Sean's version of the third act. -Sarah and Sean both loved the flashback scenes. -The lack of single-handed films; 'The Shallows' starring Blake Lively is another good example. -Sarah believes locking yourself in a room is not a solution. -Robert's view of the infected as 'monsters'. -Big American flags. -Sean sings the American National Anthem. Raised Questions: -Does Sean need to introduce himself? (That's not meant to sound pretentious) -Was 2007 overloaded with apocalypse films? -Why does Sean insult the majority of his audience? -Is the CGI egregious? -Would this film have been better if they hadn't shown the 'monsters' at all? -Do they waste the hour of build up in the last half an hour? -Should they have kept Robert Neville as the only human in the film? -Are you interested in the sequel? -Which medication was Robert taking after his dog dies? -What was he saving that bacon for? -Where is the extended cut of this film, seriously? -Do the 'monsters' attempt to stay away from Robert? Zombie Recommendations: -In The Flesh (2013-2014), a BBC Three TV Series. -28 Days Later (2002). -George A. Romero's Land of the Dead (2005). On the podcast this time, Steven and Sean are trying not to get eaten by zombie vampire creatures while also dealing with a post-apocalyptic world. This time, we're talking about the Francis Lawrence film from 2007, I Am Legend. It may seem callous to say, but I hope that no animals will be able to survive a real apocalypse like the one shown in this film. It would be sad, for sure. However, I sure as hell don't want to do what Robert Neville had to do to his poor dog. That may have been one of the most heartbreaking things ever. The rest of the film, though? Pretty dang clever and exciting. As far as ends of the world go, this one didn't seem particularly bad. All you've got to do is keep to a schedule and cover your tracks at all times. Seems like a person could make that work.I won't ever say I could, but Neville certainly did. Adesso. Probabilmente i momenti positivi e negativi saranno diversi. Still, our conversation was a fun one as we thought about how this film parallels the world today, whether or not we could survive alone like Robert Neville, and what makes a compelling creature antagonist. *I Am Legend Spoiler Review - 06:12* *The Connecting Point - 0:59:40* *Follow & Subscribe* Aaron * Twitter ( http://twitter.com/aaronelwhite ) * Facebook ( http://facebook.com/aaronelwhite ) Patrick * Twitter ( http://twitter.com/shoelesspatch ) * Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/shoelesspatch ) Feelin' Film * Facebook ( https://www.facebook.com/feelinfilm/ ) * Twitter ( http://twitter.com/feelinfilm ) * Instagram ( https://www.instagram.com/feelinfilmpodcast/ ) * Website ( http://feelinfilm.com/ ) * Email feelinfilm@gmail.com * Feelin' Film on Apple Podcasts ( https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/feelin-film-podcast/id1101052601?ign-mpt=uo%3D4&mt=2 ) * Feelin' Film on Google Play ( https://play.google.com/music/m/Ifyujauepw2kgzhdfoatxqje6me?t=Feelin_Film ) * Feelin' Film on Stitcher ( https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/feelin-film ) * Feelin' Film on TuneIn ( https://tunein.com/radio/Feelin-Film-p861830/ ) * Feelin' Film on Overcast ( https://overcast.fm/itunes1101052601/feelin-film ) * Feelin' Film on Spotify ( https://open.spotify.com/show/1hPdS31VUraYME02XV6Xzc ) *Join the Facebook Discussion Group* ( https://www.facebook.com/groups/1162223530455455/ ) *Support us on Patreon & get awesome rewards* ( https://www.patreon.com/FeelinFilm ) Rate/Review us on iTunes ( https://geo.itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/feelin-film-podcast/id1101052601?mt=2 ) and on your podcast app of choice!

Set in 1970s Southern California, the novel is about  the life of Robert Neville, the seemingly only survivor of a worldwide pandemic which causes people to turn into vampires. Robert’s life is filled with drinking, madness and fear and Matheson’s writing becomes venerated by future horror writers like Stephen King. I Am Legend, published in 1964 by Robert Matheson, is a book that has been adapted into a movie three different times. We dissect each adaption into the bits of the good, the bad, and the imperfect of retelling an awesome tale cinematically. Breanna @bloodyhorrorbri joins Jerry, Chris, and Josh for this episode record in July 2014. I Am Legend by Richard Matheson I Am Legend was a great exploration into the mind of a man trapped within the solidarity of time. After an event transforms the world population into vampiric beings, Robert Neville is seemingly the last man on earth. His only company comes from the haunted calls of an annoying neighbor and flirtatious taunts by naked woman whose sole purpose is to remind Robert that he is indeed still human.   Movie Adaptations I Am Legend starring Will Smith is the best depiction of the solitude Robert Neville experience being the only person living in New York City. Omega Man explores the cult fascination of a subplot briefly mentioned in novel, I Am Legend. This subplot served as a great twist into who becomes the monster when the term monster becomes debatable. The Last Man on Earth was the best all around adaptation of the book. Not many creative licenses were taken as the screenplay was written by Matheson himself. Vincent Price was excellent as Robert Neville and his hatred for his neighbor Cormack rang true through his great ability to express how much he detested that pesky vampire. Tangents   Night of the Living Dead - Romero has accredited to "The Last Man on Earth" to being an inspiration to "Night of the Living". The Black Guy Lives - Romero was never one to kill off the black man first in his zombie movies. I all other instances, brotha, you better run! Zombies Evolve - Should something considered "dead" be capable of learning how to shoot a gun?
