Shradha can't tell you how many times in her early career she's used these terms interchangeably. In this episode she invites Rupert to unpack this. What is the difference between design criteria and design principles? Why is it important to keep these two terms in mind while designing the org?
At the end of the eleventh chapter (11.55), Krishna says that HE can only be reached through Bhakti (devotion). Thus, the revered twelfth chapter of the Bhagavad Gita is called Bhakti Yoga. Arjun was terrified and frightened to see the original Form (saakaar) of Krishna (Vishwaroopam) and enquires, "Between those who are steadfastly devoted to You (Form) and those who worship the imperishable and unmanifest (Formless -Niraakaar, Nirgun), whom do you consider to be more perfect in Yoga" (12.1)? Incidentally, all cultures have roots in this question. In the Gita, three broad paths are given. Karma (action) for mind oriented people; Sankhya (awareness) for Buddhi (intellect) oriented and Bhakti (devotion) for heart oriented. Certainly, they are not watertight paths and a lot of criss-crossing takes place between them and that's what is reflected in this chapter. Krishna earlier gave a hierarchy (3.42) and said that the mind is superior to the senses; buddhi is superior to the mind. He also said that he can't be attained through vedas, rituals or charity (11.53). This leads to the conclusion that one reaches Bhakti either through a sequential path of Karma-Sankhya or through an exponential path (very rare). Bhakti is the final step to the Paramatma. Bhakti is beyond our prayers, rituals or chanting to fulfill our desires or remove difficulties. It is being both Nimitta maatra (an instrument in HIS hand) and Shraddha-vaan (one with Shradha -trust), simultaneously. Nimitta maatra is realising that we are just an instrument in HIS hands when both favourable and unfavorable things happen through us. Shraddha is accepting whatever comes our way as HIS blessings, whether it is to our liking or not. Essentially, it is unconditional love which Krishna described as a state of seeing the self in others, and others in the self; and seeing HIM everywhere (6.29).

What does it look like not only to survive, but to thrive after trauma? --- “Banksias, if you can imagine, they've got this woody core, with those eyes dotted around the core. So those eyes contain the seeds of the banksia tree, and these seeds – these pods – open up after the ashy heat intensity of a bushfire. So we really loved this metaphor because it represents our hopes for survivors who've experienced something incredibly painful and traumatic – like a bushfire can be – without minimising the severity of that incident, but also capturing the possibility for new life and beauty and hope.” Banksia Women is a domestic violence support service affiliated with St John's Anglican Church Darlinghurst, in Sydney's eastern suburbs. It was born just as Covid was kicking off – which complicated what they do, but certainly hasn't held them back. In this episode of Life & Faith, manager Keely Oste explains what it means for women to heal and even flourish after surviving domestic abuse. She talks about the needs, courage, and triumphs of the women she works with – and Shradha, who joined Banksia Women in January 2021, opens up about how it's made such a difference to her, and to others. “The first basic thing was: I'm not alone in this. I think that was the biggest thing that helped me to not feel ashamed about the situation because it was not my fault, and I was not the only one - there were a group of women who were of different ages, of different ethnicities, of diverse backgrounds. And it still gives me goose bumps to see that so many beautiful women, so many educated women, so many middle-aged women and pretty young women are going through such things … and that gave me, like, 50 percent I was out of my pain, to see that I can get help from someone and my story can help someone else.” --- Explore: Banksia Women If you or someone you know is experience domestic violence, please know that help is available. Shradha Kochhar (b. Delhi, India) is a textile artist and knitwear designer based in New York, as well as the co-founder of apparel and clothing brand LOTA. Best known for her home spun and hand knitted ‘khadi' sculptures using ‘kala cotton' - an inherently organic cotton strain indigenous to India, her work is at an intersection of material memory, sustainability and intergenerational healing. Focusing on generating a physical archive of personal and collective south asian narratives linked to women's work, invisible labor and grief, the work is large scale and will exist beyond whispers over generations. The work is made from hand spinning ‘Kala cotton' - a cotton crop indigenous to India on a portable booklet spinning wheel (charkha) and hand knitting it into textures and structures that mimic the skin on our bodies. Focusing and investigating resources lost and born out of colonization in India such as ‘Khadi' - a self reliant and equitable practice of textile making and ‘Kala Cotton', a miracle cotton crop that sustains completely on seasonal rainfall as solutions to climate change, water shortage, soil degradation and social inequity. Built from an ongoing library of seed bank that documents indigenous cotton strains found across the world, unraveling the intersection of words - ‘cotton', ‘cloth', ‘colonization' and ‘community'. Shradha's mission is to understand the potential in soil and to establish an alternate system of textile farming and making, that discourages modern technology that feasts on the felling of forests and extraction of resources. In this episode, we discuss regenerative resources and how we can think about materials in a more cyclical way, soft sculpture and the knitted essay, and how collaboration and the act of building community can make an art practice that much stronger. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ongoingness/support

Krishna says that there are four types of devotees. The first one wants to come out of difficulties and misery he is facing in life. Second one desires to have physical possessions and worldly pleasures. Most devotees fall in these two categories irrespective of culture, gender, belief systems and so on. Krishna says that these two kinds of devotees pray and perform rituals to various Devatas. It is akin to approaching an appropriate doctor based on the ailment one suffers from. Krishna further says that the desires of these devotees are fulfilled because of their Shradha. It is in essence, a form of surrender. The following example will illustrate Shradha. Two farmers who have adjacent farms decide to dig a well to irrigate their farms. The first farmer would dig for a day or two and upon not finding any water would change the location and start digging afresh. The second farmer persistently kept digging at the same place. By the end of the month, the first farmer is left with many ditches and the second one got water from the well. Even when our senses don't find anything tangible (like water in this case), it is inner Shradha that keeps us moving as in the case of the second farmer. Shradha is a fearless positive force and free of doubt. Krishna hints that he is behind this Shradha which results in success. Shradha in our relationships, family ties and profession has the power to achieve miracles. The third kind of devotee is about to cross the boundary of desires. He is a curious person and seeks knowledge of self. The fourth kind is a Gyani(a wise one) and he has crossed the boundary of desires. He sees the Lord in everything and everywhere and has attained union with the almighty.

In episode 26 of the Impact India podcast, I chat with Shradha Kochhar, a knitwear designer, textile artist, and the co-founder of LOTA India. Shradha’s work combines sustainability and craftsmanship, and although based in New Delhi, is being recognized globally for her talent. Her latest works were seen at London Fashion Week 2019, which featured her knitted ‘khadi’ fabric, using Kala cotton, and knitted sweaters for the ASHISH AW19 collection.
Shradha (dedication) builds up at the junction of intellect and sentiments. It is an active divine force which enables us to see God in a stone and feel the touch of a word. Dedication towards something/ somebody is reason -based and hence set reserved for a few. In Ramcharitmanas, Goswami Tulsidas ji writes that Goddess Parvati represents shradha while Lord Shiva is Vishwas (faith). We may have faith in existence of Lord but shardha lays the foundation for experiencing Him. In the context of society also, faith sustains a relation while shradha makes it pleasant. Faith is a general requirement for leading a calm life while shradha makes it precise.
Power dynamics can be one of the biggest causes of conflict and harm in a relationship. Commonly, women give their power away to men in various ways, although this can also be the other way around. In this podcast, I talk with Sonja Shradha Devi about unhealthy power dynamics that result in a woman devaluing her own experience. This might be a personal relationship but is also seen in student-guru relationships. We will talk about: - physical abuse, emotional abuse and even spiritual abuse - how to spot that you are in a disempowered relationship - steps to start to heal within - steps to start to short the relationship or leave - watching not to fall into victim mentality - moving from blame to responsibility - finding your own values, needs and truth - the qualities of empowered relationships and how to attract them Watch videos of Sonja Shradha Devi on her channel at https://livetantra.com/authors/sonja-shradha-devi www.sonjashradhadevi.com

"In My Own Words" Thank you, Parul Agrawal, for your generous nomination for #PersonBehindThePassion! To me, you are selfless and forever loving and I appreciate this great honor. I consider myself to be the kind of person who believes in going within to find all the answers. The passion I am currently pursuing in my life is Wedding Shakti because 1 out of every 3 marriages are ending in divorce and it is more important than ever that couples enter into matrimony prepared for not only the “big day” but for their lives together in the years to follow. The impact I intend to make in the world is ‘We seek the counsel of consultants, attorneys, and experts in various fields to ensure success. So, why not ask for advice in major life decisions such as a marriage? Ensuring love, longevity, and growth, so that over time you each evolve in not only in your lives together, but in your careers as well' because I want to help brides and grooms overcome wedding stress sharing the secrets of togetherness through my F.A.I.T.H System. The people that have inspired me to pursue this passion are my father because he always encouraged me to believe in myself and keep my faith intact ever since I was a little girl, I became the first Indian to receive endorsement for her work by the world's leading motivational speaker and world-class coach Les Brown though every single smile I am able to induce inspires me to continue to follow my passion. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/selfachievementnetwork/support

We continue the #InsightsPodcast series, and on this edition, we have the ever-inspiring and charming Shradha Sharma, Founder & CEO of YourStory. In this podcast, we uncover Shradha's journey from being a young girl from Patna to building the media powerhouse that YourStory has become today, with a team of 93 people, 80,000 stories published, 1 million subscribers and 20 million readers reached. Being on the other side of the hot seat for a change, Shradha reflects on her successes and how she scaled as a founder over the past decade. From starting off as an idea to tell positive stories (something that she saw was lacking, in her experience at established media houses) to reaching a stage where the Prime Minister called out to the nation's youth to read YourStory for inspiration, it has been a long journey for Shradha, where staying true to the vision proved crucial. We get a peek into Shradha's childhood: growing up in a family with four daughters and a son, raised alone by her mother while her father was away on work in the Merchant Navy. Shradha was a go-getter from the start and left no stone unturned to give her mother ample opportunities to be proud. She went on to major in History from St Stephen's in Delhi, where she discovered her love for communication and writing, and also met the love of her life. Shradha did stints with The Times of India and CNBC in Mumbai and climbed the corporate ladder before finding her calling in sharing relatable stories of common people, which she felt needed to be celebrated. Shradha recalls the struggles in the early days – not just to convince investors that she was not building an NGO but also in getting friends to join her. She was ridiculed, everyone said it wasn't going to work, but she always had the conviction. In fact, the constant undermining helped stoke a fire in her belly, she shares. “I chose to be the heroine of my story and not the victim. I used every stone thrown at me. I knew my business was not going to be an overnight success, and that it will take time to build. I wasn't chasing big money or building a unicorn but drew joy from the work, it was what I loved doing.” Talking about lessons learnt on both professional and personal front, Shradha has creative acronyms MNM (Mind, Network, Market) and 3Ms (Meditation, Medication, Mentorship). She says it's important for founders to control their “mind”, invest in building a network with a focus on ‘giving', and for the market to align with you. She illustrates on how increasing digital penetration and the coolness quotient associated with starting up provided tailwinds to YourStory's growth. At a personal level, Shradha has benefitted from both meditation and medication to overcome the agony of personal tragedies. She emphasises the importance of mentors and being open to asking for help from young and old alike. She laughingly points out that entrepreneurs become comfortable with being shameless in asking for help, thanks to the innumerable times they get no as an answer. Things change for the better, though, as one treads along the path to success, “Aaj kal toh mere acche din aaye hue hain (My good days are here!),” she jokes. Shradha adds that the ability to communicate well (storytelling) is extremely crucial while building for success and that the narrative should evolve as stakeholders change. She talks about how investors have been a positive force in her journey, helping her shape into a better CEO by ensuring for discipline, rigour and accountability. Just like any other founder, the journey has not been an easy one for Shradha and has involved making some hard decisions and surviving through tough times including those in personal life such as the unfortunate tragedy of losing her mother, who was a major source of inspiration.
Shradha Ghale’s debut novel The Wayward Daughter has been critically acclaimed by reviewers in Nepal for treading fresh ground. Avoiding the big-ticket events of the country’s contemporary history, Ghale’s novel tells the story of a young girl coming of age in a changing 1990s Kathmandu, revealing the intersections of class, caste and identity in urban Nepal. In our latest episode of Himal Interviews podcast, our Editor Aunohita Mojumdar caught up with Ghale on a sunny terrace in Kathmandu Valley. Ghale spoke about her novel, why her journalism doesn’t overlap with her fiction writing, and the risks of not translating the country to a wider audience. An effective brand story is an authentic narrative with a strategic message that expresses why a brand exists, what it stands for and why consumers should choose it. Every Company has a story to tell – either the one that incubated it or the one that inspired its growth. Yet until early 2000s, most of these stories of Indian startups never reached an audience. “Every story can be as extraordinary as we choose to see and the role of communication should be the ability to go behind and see that story”, says Shradha Sharma, Founder & CEO of YourStory Media in this episode of Building It up with Bertelsmann. From views on the changing face of content in India to what consumers like when it comes to content across multiple platforms, Shradha shares insights, learning and must-dos for creating the ‘right’ story and a powerful content strategy that can help your brand grow.

“Recently, an online student asked . . . ‘What is really meant by surrender to God?’ And to answer that question we have to really see the three elements of it: what do we mean by surrender; what do we mean by God; and what exactly are we surrendering to God?” argues Shunyamurti, the spiritual master of the Sat Yoga Institute in Costa Rica. And that’s what meditation really is: surrender to God. It is letting go of one’s sense of alienation. It is an offering of oneself. It is freeing oneself of any sense of separation. “And so then the question is, ‘What do we mean by God?’ because in Advaita philosophy God is not an Other. And so, we are surrendering to the Self—to the Self that, in principle, we already are.” However, we have lost contact with the Self because of “the defense mechanisms that we created—that we call ‘ego’—that have been used to alienate ourselves from other individuals, from other people. And those same defense mechanisms, of necessity, alienate us from the Self and from the Supreme Self that is within our individual self.” “And so the surrender requires an internal letting go of one’s defenses against a power and a feeling of love—a current of energy in fact—that is overwhelming to the ego. It’s letting go of our evasion of the presence, the intelligence, and the power of the Self. That will overwhelm the ego and dissolve it in the flow of that Divine Love.” So we must have a burning desire for union with God, and, at the same time, let go of all of the lesser desires that have distracted us from the constant remembrance of the Supreme Self. And this means a letting go of the mind itself. “And this requires what is called Shradha, or faith: there has to be a sufficient amount of faith that in the letting go of the ego you will find something infinitely greater, more valuable than that which you are letting go of.” Recorded on the evening of Thursday, May 20, 2010.
