Via de Speakers Academy leerde ik Jacques Geluk kennen. Hij is een onafhankelijke journalist die interviews en reportages maakt voor tijdschriften, kranten en online magazines, en doet ook eindredactie en vertalingen. Inmiddels zijn we aangekomen bij het 100e interview en en dit keer met een zeer bijzondere gast: Alex Sijm. Als kind had Alex slechts één droom: circusdirecteur worden. Ondanks de vele tegenslagen en obstakels, heeft hij deze droom nagejaagd. In een van de minst winstgevende branches heeft hij een bloeiend bedrijf opgebouwd met drie verschillende producties, tientallen medewerkers en jaarlijks 100.000 bezoekers. In deze podcast duiken we dieper in op zijn succesverhaal. Hoe zorgt een ondernemer ervoor dat zijn evenementen altijd uitverkocht zijn? Hoe vind je de ideale klant? Chris Widener has been named one of the top 50 speakers in the world and one of INC Magazine's Top 100 leadership speakers. Since 1986, he's done close to 3,000 speeches. Widener has written 20 books including a New York Times and a Wall Street Journal best-seller. In 2019, he launched a Speakers Academy for people who would like to build a speaking business. We talked to Widener about public speaking, and how everyone can improve their communication skills and be more effective in both business and personal interactions. Widener learned from some of the most legendary speakers in the business including Zig Zigler and Jim Rohn. When asked about what he learned from each of them he explains the most important thing was to just be himself. He calls them the 3 C's: (1) CONSTANT Widener says, “we are in the most communicative time, but not the most connected. (3) CONCISE Keep your message concise and to the point.    On a personal note, Widener's life story and rise to fame is incredible. Growing up, he lived in 28 different homes and went to 11 different schools. He says drugs became part of his life in the 6th grade. Corporate communications can sometimes be boring, so instead start ‘organizational conversations’ that you think of as dialogues rather than monologues. The idea is to make the conversation more effective by developing relationships with your team, and then following up with the communique. Pro-Track Profile Gail is part of the National Speakers Association Northern California 2019 Speakers Academy program. This is the program previously known as Pro-Track. I participated back in 2006 and although the program now has another name I am sticking with the alliterative "Pro-Track Profile" moniker as I interview participants and add them to the roster of past interviews.  I'm volunteering as an adjunct faculty member in support of the program this year, and took the opportunity to catch up with Gail. 2-Minute Tip: Make Eye Connection   Look them in the eye and make strong eye contact. It helps to make the audience feel more comfortable. To make that connection, though you need to hold the eye connection for 4-6 seconds.
