This week's episode is a Solosode where we're diving deep into an Instagram caption I shared in this post that read: “Words cast spells. When you intentionally shift your SELF-talk to a frequency that matches your ideal SELF you literally start to shift your entire BEING into the ultimate version of you.” In this episode, I expand on: The audible + inaudible influence SELF-talk has and how SELF-awareness helps to capture these conversations How to elevate the frequency of your words to match your true SELF The ways you're a powerful creator shaping your life, not the other way around. The importance of ending your dialogue on a higher frequency to generate more confidence, SELF-love, and reverence Becoming an alchemist of words to create a feeling that will inspire action + move you through life's challenges When you become the master of your language, you will simultaneously become the MAGIC you want to experience in life (more on this coming in my book Magnetic Feminine releasing later this year, stay tuned). This week's guest is another round with my homegirl + badass business coach, Amina AlTai. This epic conversation is enriched with Amina’s nourishing brilliance in the game of mindset towards creating a business that FEELS just as good as the performance of it. Being a powerful advocate for HARMONY, Amina understands the importance of feeling nourished in mind, body, and soul in order to show up as your best self in all important areas of life and to thrive as a result of it. Having previously lived through “the race to burnout in the name of success”, Amina developed 2 autoimmune diseases as her body revolted in response to her lack of self-care. That was the wake-up call that fueled her inspired mission to help others achieve their goals with joy and work in ways they love via dynamic self-assessment tools and intuitive coaching. In this episode, we dive into: How to slash overwhelm + fear to produce radical change The dual pain of “loss” that comes with growth + releasing resistance Money mindset & the steps to expand rather than restrict Directional living- the lily pad theory to goal achieving Making peace with being in a constant state of “becoming” I can’t wait to hear what you think of this EP. Ep 84 Knitting and injuries in 30 minutes or less because even in a pandemic we’re all still busy Segments this week include: FOs, Wips, Stash, Out and About, On the Run Note on Ravelry – all links to Ravelry are clearly labelled as such – if a link does not say Ravelry, it does not go to Ravelry. Links to yarn are directly to manufacturer’s pages and should be safe for those still having rav accessibility issues. FO Dissent Cowl (Ravelry) – my homage to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, pattern by Carissa Browning and together we’ve raised over 30,000 through this pattern for the ACLU. Nice work knitters! I’m using ancient stash yarn. Over halfway through the necklace portion Thing 2 Dragon Blanket (Ravelry) - I assembled it yesterday while my kids were at school. I modeled it and posted some silly photos on FB/Insta because how often do you get to wear a dragon blanket, complete with spines?!? Thing 2 is going to LOVE it WIPs Star Wars scarf (Ravelry) for Thing 1 – started the Millennium Flacon and the Death Star, then it’ll be the Dark Side and some weird alien writing, then the Dark Side is the last third. I’m trying to work 5 rows a day so it’ll be done in time for Christmas. Still loving the new hexagonal needles from Indian Lake Artisans. I’m using Truboo by Lion Brand, a 100% bamboo yarn. Thing 2 hitchiker (Ravelry) – a DK hitchhiker scarf for Thing 2, out of big box store cotton yarn from Michaels. It’s still my car knitting and knitting a row or 2 most days. Ankle socks (Ravelry) – Still on the 2nd sock. It lives in my purse so I’ve worked on this a few times waiting in lines. Pigskin Party Castons: Tan House Brook Shawl (Ravelry) - in the Sekhment base, an alpaca/silk/linen yarn from A Hundred Ravens in the Nevertheless She Persisted colorway that I bought during the virtual Maryland Sheep and Wool. I;ve started section 3. Willowbrook Shawl (Ravelry) – by Brenda Castiel in my own handspun cotton. I spun this yarn with fiber from fiber from Hipstrings with this shawl in mind last June during Pride month. Spinning New Akerworks lightweight drop spindle – started spinning silk singles again. Won’t be wheel-spinning again for a while, I have a leg injury and am currently awaiting an MRI next week. This is my first spindle from Akerworks. I love their wheel bobbins soooo much, and I had a feeling I’d like their spindles and so far I really do. Out and About Lots of fiber events happening online this fall Pigskin Party now through the Superbowl Ravelry Group I’m sponsoring for the 3rd year and also participating. Stitches @ Home – put on by the folks XRX the folks who to Stitches East/West/South etc. Continuing Oct 10 and 11. Virtual Rhinebeck – Oct 15-18 I’ve signed up for 2 classes on crochet to improve my skills and learn how to read a pattern better because the charts are definitely harder to read than knitting charts. Indie Untangled Everywhere – the popular Rhinebeck-adjacent event for independent dyers is also going digital this year, more than 40 vendors plus access to zoom calls with designers. Vogue Knitting Live Upcoming Vogue Knitting Live eve nts will be Nov 12-15, Dec 10-13, and Jan 14-17. I almost always attend Vogue Live NYC every January, it’s usually a birthday present from my family as it’s often right around my birthday weekend. This year it’s the weekend after so I’ll probably attend the January event. If you have any events you’d like me to share please email me windsweptmonique@gmail.com On the Run I need an MRI. Damn.

Paul Saladino is the leading authority on the science and application of the carnivore diet. He is board-certified in psychiatry and completed his residency at the University of Washington. He attended medical school at the University of Arizona where he worked with Dr. Andrew Weil focusing on integrative medicine and nutritional biochemistry. His new incredible book called the "Carnivore Code” just came out last month and has been climbing towards a best seller— it may already be by the time this comes out. Paul is a lot of fun, he’s super charismatic, full of energy and passionate about living what he calls, “a radical life” through movement, spending time in nature & cultivating mindfulness. This conversation is science-heavy people— so be ready. We get down on so much insightful information such as: Pauls backstory + how he arrived at the Carnivore diet His experience doing a Vegan diet His hypothesis behind proposed issues in digesting meat Why being intentional with your diet is so important Why it’s so important to regard the history of meat-eating and it’s valuable play to optimizing our health and longevity Why having an ACIDIC stomach is essential for healthy digestion and health overall The ESSENTIAL mineral we need to support optimal acidity The difference between the BIO-AVAILABILITY in plant foods vs animal foods Some of the anti-nutrients that plants possess What does the Carnivore entail + The different degrees of eating a Carnivore diet His hypothesis on why he believes plants are “fall back foods” How the indigenous around the world detoxify plants before eating them How eating meat helped our brains to develop How to CORRECTLY eat a Carnivore diet for optimal health Who is the Carnivore diet for? The flaw with Epidemiology studies “ How to SPEND your calories in your health’s best interest Your microbiome on a Carnivore diet and the lack of fiber in it Polyphenols what are they? What is their play on our health? And so much more. One thing I love about having a podcast that is geared to optimize your Self-Development, Life Performance + Health, is having the opportunity to bring on real experts like Paul, who can speak with evidence-based information on subjects in health/wellness that could be really valuable to our optimization. In my opinion, to continue our growth + to accelerate our greatest performance in life, its important to keep an open mind so that we can invite new information that may be useful to our process. It’s like Bruce Lee says: “Absorb what is useful, Discard what is not, Add what is uniquely your own.” There are so many people who are thriving on the Carnivore diet so my goal with this episode to give you the most scientific based information on this diet through Paul’s expertise in this area as it may be useful to you. I will say moving forward on all health/diet talks- this is episode is meant to educate not to prescribe- that’s for your doctor only. I genuinely loved this talk with Paul and think you will too, regardless of your diet preferences. Shana Robinson is a “corporate survivor” turned Holistic Chef, Wellness Consultant, Yoga Instructor and one of my personal favorites follows on the gram for her delivery of valuable content around wellness that is laced with humor. Learning with laughter is a win-win to me. I love Shana’s story and think it’s a valuable one to share being that SO many people are afraid to switch their careers up after investing so many years as Shana did in the tech world. She was an OG employee working with huge companies like Yahoo, eBay, Google and Twitter in their early start-up years. It’s so scary to make a big career change like she has and especially into a completely different territory-- most do not make that move but Shana went for it and pivoted her career into the health and wellness space. It’s been a total operation of listening and trusting what she feels is a Life calling, so greatly that it moved her from her years of residing in NYC to LA where she currently resides. In this episode we discuss: Changing up career paths to pursue your passion Entering new career territory with no experience Trusting your intuition and operating your life from it Imbalanced health signs your body is revealing to you Moving towards challenges that grow you How to discover new passions with you Tips for optimizing your health by optimizing your skills in the kitchen And LOTS more-- all served with plenty of belly laughs, my fave! Matthew Collins is a celebrity hairstylist, a global ambassador for Loreal + Dyson, a life-long athlete, and all-around inspiring human. Matthew’s client roster and body of work are highly impressive; he travels the world to work with clients like Kristen Stewart, Chloe Bennet, and Mandy Moore. While his talents are certainly top-tier and revered in the entertainment space, what I really admire about my talented friend is how down-to-earth, authentic he is + that he is committed to health and fitness as an absolute priority- no matter how busy he is… and trust me, this man is BUSY. I had so much fun diving into Matthew’s back story on how he arrived at his career success, his fitness journey, the power in goal setting and why he isn’t afraid to keep starting over to follow his passions in life. This talk is so inspiring and full of energy- like Matthew. Enjoy! xRx IG+ TWITTER: @MATTHEWSTYLIST AGENT/BOOKINGS: THE WALL GROUP MATTHEW COLLINS

In this new Solosode, I share my mindset + process when experiencing a decrease in my usual High Performing energy, how it was affecting my cognition + physical efforts on this day, and in all realness, how I maneuvered through it, with RESPECT for it. Working SMARTER + not always HARDER to make real, longstanding gains in our lives means being receptive, honest + agile with our energy levels- every single day. We need the exhale as much as we need to inhale to keep kicking ass in our lives and developing our greatest self. You can't snap a string... Enjoy xRx
In this mini episode, I share a REAL time challenge that I chose to view with humor, take in a good laugh and the benefits that come with doing so. I also get discuss why I feel it’s powerful to embrace and even share the “messy” moment of process It’s a fast, raw, real episode that will and hopefully will invite you to find some humor in one of your life’s challenges and maybe even get a good, healthy, tension releasing laugh in from it too- I certainly did from mine! Enjoy, xRx
In this new Solosode, I share my 3 most effective + reliable steps that get me to pivot from feeling overwhelmed to feeling empowered + in an emotional/metal state of: " I GOT THIS" and "YES I CAN." Enjoy! xRx
The final Soloside of 2018 is here and Im so psyched to share this one with all of you! In this episode, I drop 5 of the most growth producing, mentally motivating/inspiring, performance progressive questions that I ask myself with full honesty + of equal importance, with consistency. I truly believe that in order to grow, we need to find ways to challenge ourselves and to SEEK ways we can become better- no matter how great we may be performing in our life as it stands. We can always become a greater version of ourselves if we choose to believe so… Real growth and progress in life, requires the DESIRE and a willingness to dig deep within ourselves for more truth; being honest with answers is also a requirement (thats the hardest part). These 5 confrontational, self-discovery questions, are SURE to do exactly that. They serve me personally as supportive tools on my pursuit for higher performance and peak expression in my life so my hope is that they will now offer the same support to you in yours. Enjoy! xRx

It's not easy to live through the challenges that arise on our paths to GOING FOR IT in our lives. Putting ourselves "out there" in the world and especially in ways that require a lot of "learning as you go" can be straight up scary and offer some "messy" moments in the process. It most definitely can make even some of the most confident of people generate insecure moments in the process but living through them is truly is the ONLY way to grow, create and ultimately allow us to accomplish what we're aiming for on the other end of them. This Solosode is all about a personal moment experiencing some emotions of raw and very real Insecurity. It was so powerful until I realized exactly what was happening by OBSERVING mySelf and stopped JUDGING mySelf. Once I came to that understanding, I was able to push past my insecure emotions with a conquered state of mind that reminded me of this TRUTH: THIS IS JUST A PART OF THE PROCESS + THERES NO WAY AROUND IT TO CREATE WHAT YOU DESIRE. Personally, its the road I WANT to take albeit challenging. I want NO short cuts or hand outs because I value my process as a HUGE part of the reward in all that I am creating. Being real with ourselves while honoring our Process is one of the greatest tools that supports both internal + external success in life. Sometimes the path to advancing confidence is by feeling INSECURE. I love clever irony. My intention behind creating this bite size episode is to support your process of GOING FOR IT by keeping it SO real with you all and putting moments of my creative process like this out there for you while still IN the process of growing this all where I envision it to go- shamelessly. Not waiting to expose this when Im clear + "safe" at the point of accomplishing my vision of success. My hope is that it inspires you to to that "thing" you've been wanting to do but have felt insecure about trying or reaching for because you don't want to fail, be denied or get embarrassed along the way. We only learn what we are capable of when we are put in uncomfortable scenarios and discover who we are within the process of getting through them. Forget "perfect" - there's no such thing on the road to real success; "messy" is bound to happen + there is VALUE in living through the discomfort of those moments when they show up. One of my favorite quotes EVER sums it up perfectly: "IF YOU STUMBLE, MAKE IT PART OF THE DANCE" My edit is "WHEN" vs IF because it is a GIVEN that you will. Be PROUD that you're putting effort (or soon will be) towards something you desire, believe in and care about, whatever that might for you. There's so much power in owning and appreciating your efforts. Better "oops" than "what if?" ❤️ xRx

"Superfood" is a term that we are starting to hear a lot more of these days and algae is most definitely deserving of that title. This is the first podcast episode of its kind, where I get down with the founder of a nutrition brand that I am SUPER passionate about because of the LEGIT science behind the benefits of algae + my own validation towards it anecdotally. Catharine Arnston is the Founder + CEO of Energy Bits, an superior quality algae brand that consists of chlorella + spirulina tablets. Energy Bits is one of safest + purest algae brands on the market (if not The most). The health benefits of CLEAN algae consumption are unarguable. There is an abundance of research that proves how greatly beneficial adding algae to our diets can be. I dig deep with Catharine to unpack the Science backed health benefits of algae in this episode. Some conversation highlights we discuss are: Why algae is healthy for us How algae can be especially great for Vegans, Vegetarians AND diets with heavy meat consumption. Why the quality of algae makes a major difference (clue: LEAD should not be a part of our diets) How algae consumption supports longevity The importance of consuming the FULL spectrum (essential + non essential) of Amino Acids The incredible similarities between Chlorophyll + our hemoglobin Consuming Algae on a Ketogenic diet Why Algae is endorsed by NASA, the United Nations and Carnegie Institute as the most nutrient-dense food in the world. I hope you enjoy this episode that we created to EMPOWER you with knowledge + tools that can support your optimal health/life performance. If you love it, let me know in your IG stories, comments- I love hearing from you! xRx You can purchase energy bits with a 20% discount via www.energybits.com by using BLACKBELTBEAUTY in the promo code!
This Instasode was inspired from this recent BlackBeltBeauty Instagram post about honoring your efforts with support on the days when your "best" was showing up and trying. It's easy to dismiss those efforts because they didn't produce outstanding outcomes or perhaps did not give you the exact outcome that you envisioned but those efforts are just as important as the "home run" days because they are literally the "threads that pull the entire look" together by way of CONSISTENCY. I dig deeper into the concept of supporting yourself on those days and the powerful energy it will support you back with as a result. I hope this Instasode drops into your life at the perfect time to remind you to stay on your team by encouraging and acknowledging all of your efforts regardless of how much more you want to produce and gain. We always want more. How we feel on the way to generating "More" for our lives is of equal importance as gaining it when you believe that the journey IS the reward. PS. I mention my brother @mikesaffaie a BADASS Strength & Conditioning coach in this episode. Check out his instagram for some unique training inspiration & motivation. xRx
Olympic medalist swimmer Caroline Burckle is proof that being an Olympian is a way of life. It's an empowered MINDSET that continuously evolves to keep the athlete reaching for their absolute best, in ALL areas of their life. It’s a mindset that does not turn off after the games, which leaves the athlete a choice: to keep advancing the framework that lives within their Olympic mindset and channel it through new avenues of their life, creating opportunities that seduce them to keep reaching for greatness. It's a choice that is not easy to embrace for so many who lived a life focused and competing at one thing on the highest level but it IS the choice this incredible woman chose post swimming career so her inspiring story is almost just beginning. From the very beginning stages of her life, Caroline embraced her love for competitive swimming and invested her entire childhood into the college years of her life towards the development her natural talent in the sport. On her way to the 2008 Olympic games in Beijing where she took home a bronze medal in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay she won two NCAA individual championships in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle event and was named the 2008 NCAA Female Swimmer of the Year by virtue of winning two NCAA national championships- breaking the oldest-standing women's NCAA swimming record by swimming legend Janet Evans, swimming a 4:33.60 in the 500-yard freestyle. Her swimming accolades are incredibly impressive. What is of equal impressiveness is Caroline's self-observation, the emotional trials she faced, having the courage to be real with herself through them and the inner growth she gained from those formidable chapters in her life. We dig deep into these areas in this conversation and expand on the wisdom that was born from them. Caroline’s post Olympic career led her the development of RISE ATHELTES, a program that she and her co-founding partner Rebecca Soni offer one-on-one Olympic mentorship to athletes on a mission to succeed in both sport and life. Her entrepreneurial spirit is also responsible for the creation of her beauty/body healing product: CaroCoco a SUPER yummy organic rosemary oil infused coconut oil body and hair hydrator- Personally I can't get enough of it. #TRUTH. There's A LOT we can learn from and feel inspired by from the story and mindset of this remarkable woman. The heart, discipline, focus, relentlessness and fortitude that took this talented woman to the Olympic medal podium is so robust and is incredibly motivating to anyone who experiences her. I'm looking forward to sharing much more of Caroline's mindset, thoughts around health/training, and life process in future episodes to come. In the meantime, I have a feeling this episode will make you laugh, want to stretch your thinking, apply action behind the thoughts and trust your process. I hope you enjoy listening to this as much you we enjoyed recording it for you. xRx Conversation topics include: Carolines childhood life, discovering her love for swimming Embracing pressure with authenticity Her competitor mindset- reframing her outer expression as a competitor Swimming highlights on the road to the Beijing games Meditation- what it means to her and her process with it Enlightenment Turning the mind off to trust the process Discovering the blurred line between pleasure and pain ❤️ Subscribe to the podcast via Itunes here ❤️
Appreciation is a word that gets a lot of play these days. While we know it's a wonderful state of feeling and important to implement in our daily lives, do we really harness the incredible, expansive power that can offer us when we choose to immerse ourselves into the energy of it? In this REAL TALK Solosode, I share some of my personal experiences using the incredible pivoting energy of appreciation and suggest some ideas on why it's a major tool for your KICKASS arsenal that can support your process to not only create & accomplish what you envision for your life but to FEEL GREAT on the way to doing it. When we embrace the idea that "The journey is the reward," then operating our days from a state of appreciation is not just a "nice idea" it is an ESSENTIAL piece to succeed at designing our unique journeys & process to be the ultimate reward. It's succeeding on the way to succeeding. WIN-WIN. xRx
This Instasode is from a #BlackBeltBeauty instagram post that was based around the idea & value in training the energy of courage within us, just like a muscle- by flexing it on the daily so that we keep it strong and growing. This 13 minute episode amplifies the post that reads "Courage is a mental muscle that requires constant use to remain strong." and digs into caption (below) to the post to take you deeper into the ideas behind it. Hope it inspires you to keep flexing that mental muscle- STRONG. xRx "Courage + strength come easier when there is consistency in training the mind to be as such. Like anything in life, it takes true desire to remain dedicated to the work that goes into achieving. And it really takes work. Every. Single. Day. But when you keep in mind these important + potent words: YOU ARE WORTH IT the "work" then becomes a practice of SELF LOVE. - Mental magic tricks like that are just so much fun."

Episiode 3 of BlackBeltBeauty Radio is up- another bite size Solosode is for all you women who have been told or live with the belief that lifting weights will make you "bulky" and give your body a less feminine look. I call Bullshit. And I admit that I used to be a FIRM believer that weights would make me "bulky" adding to the muscles I already am designed with from having a MESOMORPH body type. I am almost embarrassed that I fell for that shit because it could not be further from the truth. That being said, I felt really passionate about sharing my experience with resistance training on Instagram and dig a little deeper into it within this Solosode. In this 20 minute episode I unpack: My recent post on Instagram (that btw I took A LOT of courage for me to post- I explain why in this episode) The truth about what happens when resistance training is a consistent part of your training program. The results I've been experiencing since I challenged my fear and started a resistance training program from my brother Arya Saffaie- a 4xOlympian + IFBB PRO. One of my most FAVORITE podcasts that serves as a valuable tool in my kickass tool kit: MindPump- Raw, Science back truth on fitness and health. I mention their programs that could be of great support to all of you looking to get into your best shape to date this year. I highly suggest following them on Instagram too for awesome breakdowns on all topics of health + fitness: Sal Di Stefano, Adam Shafer + Justin Andrews I hope this heart talk, Solosode helps all of you ladies who are holding back from the amazing benefits that SPECIALLY come from resistance training. I want to help you CRUSH that fear and start the journey of what I truly believe will serve as an MVP to your advancements in your aesthetics, your overall performance in life + your longevity in health. Welcome to Episode #55 of the Zacks Market Edge Podcast. Every week, host and Zacks stock strategist, Tracey Ryniec, will be joined by guests to discuss the hottest investing topics in stocks, bonds and ETFs and how it impacts your life. In this episode, Tracey is joined by Steve Reitmeister, Executive Vice President of Zacks and the editor of the portfolio service the Reitmeister Trading Alert, to discuss the important topic of when to sell a stock. A lot of focus is put on what stocks to buy and when, but very little is put onto the other end of the equation of when you should sell a stock. But it is just as important for investors to learn when to sell as it is when to buy. There are two scenarios for selling a stock: 1. Short term traders: they can use the Zacks Rank system by selling Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) stocks. If you used the Zacks Rank system to trade the fertilizer stocks like Mosaic (MOS), for instance, you would have seen it as a Zacks Rank #5 (Strong Sell) or #4 (Sell) for the last eleven months. That’s sending a strong signal. What about selling stops of 10% to 20%? Tracy and Steve discuss whether or not they recommend stops to contain losses or harvest gains. Short term trading can also be very emotional where traders try to “make it back” after bad news hits the stock. Tracey and Steve discuss what happens when your company is in the news for unsavory behavior and whether or not you should sell on an earnings miss or when guidance is lowered. 2. Long term investors: this is the harder of the two scenarios because long term traders can get complacent. Make sure you keep up-to-date on your company and keep watch on the business. Many of those in Xerox (XRX) over the last few decades have seen a real change in the business. For those in it for the long term, rising earnings estimates are still important. Microsoft (MSFT) may have higher growth now but for many years, earnings were stagnant. Should you have sold it years ago? Issues which can impact a long term investment can be a technology or product that becomes obsolete; change or death in management such as at Apple (AAPL) when Steve Jobs died; and corporate scandals, including fraud or accounting mis-management, like the stories swirling about Banc of California (BANC) this month. What else should you know about when you should sell a stock? Tune into this week’s podcast to find out. It is available on the XRX website and also on Amazon! We both really liked this book. The concept is simple: this book teaches you how to make a custom-fitting skirt and how to add an undergarment to give it structure. The patterns are sorted by construction: bottom up, top down and side to side. There really is something for everyone in the variety of designs. We didn't like some styles and we loved others. There are definitely some skirts that need a slender figure, but there were also plenty that would work on larger sizes. The fact that you customize your skirt makes it way more likely the end product will be flattering! This book is well written and includes a lot of great extras. There is a history of the skirt that we both really enjoyed reading. The photography is great and each pattern shows a lot of views of the skirt so you can see the garment as a whole but also see close-ups of important features. We love a book with plenty of good photos! It includes the usual features like a stitch guide and instructions, and the e-book also has hyperlinks to the patterns from the index, which is a another feature we both love. There's even a clever section explaining why you NEED a knit skirt, and providing a counterargument to all the reasons you don't think you want one. If you are interested in knitting a different kind of garment and learning how to make it your exact size, this is a great book for you. It is probably best suited to intermediate knitters and above, but an enthusiastic beginner could definitely tackle some of the patterns.Fiber EventsFiber Revival Aug 13, Spencer Peirce Little Farm, Newbury, MAFinger Lakes Fiber Festival Sep 17-18, Hemlock Fairgrounds, Hemlock MESouthern Adirondack Fiber Festival Sep 24-25, Washington County Fairgrounds, Greenwich, NYVermont Sheep and Wool Festival Oct 1-2, Tunbridge Fairgrounds, Tunbridge, VTNew York Sheep and Wool Oct 15-16, Dutchess County Fairgrounds, Rhinebeck, NYFiber Festival of New England Nov 5-6, Eastern States Exhibition, Springfield, MA

On the next edition of Fiber Hooligan (05/12/14), my guest will be Stuart Hochwert, President and Founder of Prime Publishing.Stuart is an expert and really a cutting edge entrepreneur in world of internet marketing and content creation. He’s also, in my opinion, a giant in the online fiber arts world.Prime Publishing is his 4th media start-up. Their group of 27 cooking and crafting properties creates, aggregates and reviews original content. The brands span digital websites, e-mail newsletters, social media, licensing, e-commerce, business information, and marketing services. If you don’t recognize the name, Prime Publishing, that’s because you probably know them from their more well know online presciences like favecrafts.com, AllFreeKniting.com, AllFreeCrochet.com, StitchAndUnwind.com, and the Knit Picky Patterns eNewsletters… to name just a few. He and his team are great folks that do a wonderful job reaching millions of knitters and crocheters with killer content. And they’ve been great partners me, to our company (XRX, Inc.), and to many of our STITCHES vendors and sponsors that we work with.I’m excited to have him on the show to talk about himself, his company, and something new that we have planned. I hope you’ll join us for what I can guarantee will be an exciting show.
We get a little bit of innuendo and silly in this one. No bad language, but a little less clean than you are used to, so you may want to listen first if you have small ones. We sort of fly by the seat of our pants in this episode! We are joined by Special Guests Melissa and Erica. We are at Stitches West and are exhausted and overwhelmed and a little sleepy and maybe a little tipsy (but we're legal so it's okay). In the Knitting Bag (1:43) Laura has no knitting! Melissa is knitting on Leah's Lovely Cardigan out of Malabrigo Sock in a blue and the McIntosh Cardigan by Gudrun Johnson from Knit With Me out of Madelinetosh in Tosh Merino Light in Tern and Edison and Button Jar Blue. Erica is working on the Brier Island Sweater out of Miss Babs Heartland Worsted. She cast on for cowl in Skeindalous Buddy Sock, but had no time to knit. Jen finished her Sweetheart of the Rodeo Cardigan and her Barley hat and gave it to the Knitmore Girls for the Throwdown. She is also working on her Ravellenics project, a shawl out of Mean Girls Yarn Club. Melissa finished some shawls that had been long-term WIPs for the Ravellenics. Frog Pond (10:05) Laura frogged some of her homework to make hat tags--but there aren't sad knitting stories when you're not knitting. Melissa learned from Brooke Nico how to fix mistakes in lace in her Stitches class. Erica calls her mistakes "design decisions" and so does Melissa because "perfection is only for God." Devil's Tower (11:44) Laura is sick of hats, so she's not going to finish the hats she's working on for the Throwdown for later and donate them to Halos of Hope later. We're all a bit hatted out. Stitches Talk (13:48) Laura has been working at her booth and it's been amazing. We had our meetup, which was great. But she is so busy. She wants a little time to shop. Erica is glad she only bought one sweater quantity worth of purple yarn. But she's bought a lot of blue sweater yarn. She got some yarn from Verdant Gryphon, Sweet Fiber, and giant skeins of fingering weight from Miss Babs (yarn Babies). Melissa and Jen also bought yarn babies from Miss Babs. Melissa bought a lot of vintage buttons. And she continues to buy pink yarn, green yarn, and neon yarn. She might have bought and entire rainbown. Melissa took some classes. She took the Fixing Mistakes in Lace Knitting with Brooke Nico and Intentional Patterning with Hand-dyed Yarns with Laura Bryant. She loved them both and recommends them. We talk about the Pajama Party with Marly Bird. Jen got some laceweight from Terilyn Needle Art for a sweater (and so did Melissa) and some laceweight cashmere from Stitch Sisterz. She also got a Miss Babs yarn baby and some Miss Babs sock yarn, some Quince and Company Chickadee to make the Chickadee by Ysolda. Melissa and Erica both got measurements take by Amy Herzog and we talk about Amy's Custom Fit Software and the myth of Standard Size. Jen got a consultation with Amy as well and thought it was great. She also took Edie Eckman's Where Do They Get Those Numbers?, which she recommends for math phobic knitters. And she took Design Inspiration with Lily Chin, which was great. Laura took a class about German and Japanese lace with Brooke Nico and she loved it! Jen and Melissa both saw Myra Wood's keynote where she talked about her Knit in New Directions book. Jen's sweater (made with Laura's yarn) was in the Friday fashion show. We met Steve from It Takes Balls to Knit. Laura, Jen, and Melissa went to the pajama party, had fun, and Jen and Laura won yarn from Malabrigo and Fiesta Yarns. We also mention Skacel and Ben from the Fiber Hooligans and XRX. Shout outs to the Yarniacs, Just Another Bay Area Knitter, Knitmore Girls, Two Knit Lit Chicks, Hollywood Knitter, Dr. Gemma and anyone else we might have forgotten. We talk about Namaste and how amazing they are. To support the Podcaster Throwdown, they gave the leader of each podcast team a free Harlow bag and t-shirts. We can't say enough good things about these ladies and their products. They are wonderful. Melissa and Jen recommend audio books for their long road trips. We talk about fangirling Myra Wood, Amy Herzog, Brooke Nico, Pam Haschke, Ben Levinsay, Steve from It Takes Balls to Knit, the Yarn on Tap girls. (And Jen loves their sock kits). Melissa talks about a neon yarn baby she bought from Newton's Yarn Country. Melissa is very proud that Stitches is the first time she's bought yarn all year, since last year she bought so much yarn she became a Loopy Legend. We also mention Shalimar Yarns and Plucky Knitter. In closing, Miss Kalendar has the cutest baby ever!

Purlescence Address: Purlescence Yarns your name & the name of your team 564 South Murphy Ave Sunnyvale, CA 94086 Catching Up: (5:58) Laura and her husband took the weekend off to recuperate after having family visit. She's working to catalog her stash. She is also preparing for her last round of Nerd Wars for a while. And she's getting ready for Stitches West. Jen has been working seriously long hours because of Flu season (stay healthy). The only good thing is that the extra lab time has given her more podcast listening time. She saw several movies, including The Hobbit, American Hustle, and Nebraska. She's been seeing her friend's band play. She and Ron also had a Disney Day to see the Winter World of Color and the last performance of Billy Hill and the Hillbillies. In the Knitting Bag: (17:08) Laura made a stripey hat out of acrylic remnants for Stripe it Up January. She's also making a premie hat for the Knitmore Girls Head to Toe collection. She's also working up the Olivia’s Butterfly Hat, reworking the pattern to be done in sport weight yarn for the Stitches West Passport Game. And she worked on her 22 Leaves Shawlette by Lankakomero, out of Mean Girls Yarn Club in Heart in a Box. She is still struggling with bead placement. Jen is working on her Sweetheart of the Rodeo sweater (her own design) out of Wollmeise DK in So Long Kitty (pink), Shalimar Breathless DK in Snopea (green), and Dream in Color Smooshy in Butterpeeps (yellow). She is also working on Twistygoo by Lisa M. Beamer in Knitpicks Brava in Wine. And she is working on a secret cowl. Finished Objects: (23:37) Laura finished two stripey hats. One was out of mystery acrylic and one was out of Dizzy Blonde DK mini skeins. Jen finished a Twistygoo out of Delicious Yarns Frosting Worsted in Blueberry and Pistachio, leftover from the gramps sweater she made for her nephew. She striped them for Stripe it Up January. She finished the California Poppy Shawl by Lydia Tsymbal out of Baah La Jolla in My Sweet Valentine for Melissa and a Gerri Hat in Peter Pan Wendy Yarn in the colorway speckled blue. And she finished her vanilla socks in very old Opal Sock Yarn (the Rainforest series, colorway Flamingo, which is pink). Frog Pond: (26:50) Jen had lots of gauge issues this week. She frogged her Kently Socks by Heather Ordover from Hitch: Patterns Inspired by the Films of Alfred Hitchcock because they were too big. She also had to completely frog her entire sweater, because her Wollmeise DK and her Shalimar Breathless DK do not give the same gauge on the same needles. She would have known that if she had swatched with both yarns. On Deck: (31:38) Laura is planning to do many stripey knit hats and crocheted hats and something for the Ravellenics. Jen will be making another stripey Twistygoo out of yellow Plymouth Encore Yarn and something else. She will also make other hats, she will make two pairs of Kently socks for the Knitmore Girls #matchymatchyKAL (a pair for her and a pair for Ron). She will also have her Ravellenics project. Knit Culture: (35:19) One of Jen's favorite Yarns We answer questions from our Knotty Talk Thread about stash and yarn. We talk about stash and how we store it. We also talk about our favorite yarns (Laura: Brooks Farm Primero (her oldest stash), Jen: Vice Yarn Paradigm in Drunken Cherries, also 1000 yards of white cashmere laceweight), needles (Laura: Hiya Hiya, Jen: partial to Knitpicks needles (affordable and sharp tips), Karbonz, and Chiaogoo, and Addi Lace), and knitting bags (Laura: Namaste Zuma Bag and Jordana Paige Bella Bag, Jen: Namaste Harlowe also Slipped Stitch Studios bags, but she also uses grocery totes and clear bags from Loopy Ewe). Don't forget to Flash Your Stash to win a digital copy of of Doomsday Knits courtesy of Cooperative Press. And post your stripey FOs for a chance at another TBD prize. We talk about the Ravellenic Games and Team Sasquatch. Knit for Ravellnics, Team Sasquatch, or both. Laura will be working on Down the Garden Path by Michele DuNaier and Jen will be doing a one-skein shawl of her own design. Geek Culture: (1:01:10) Neat Doctor Who baked goods picture gallery from a BBC America party. We want to know if you have thoughts on casting Michael Douglas in Ant-Man (which also has Paul Rudd). And we both love the Muppets Most Wanted trailer and are super excited! Events: (1:07:06) We will be at Stitches West, which is February 20-23 in Santa Clara, CA at the Convention Center. Dizzy Blonde Studios & Skeindalous Yarns are sharing a booth (booth 906 and 908). The Dizzy Blonde booth is a collection point for Halos of Hope hats for Team KnottyGirls (the final collection point!). With prizes! Shout out to the Purlescence Girls (who have the booth across from us) and we are right next to Halos of Hope (Booth 904). We will be doing a meet and greet Saturday 12:00-1:00 at the Dizzy Blonde Booth. We will be at the Friday Fashion Show and Banquet. Jen has a sweater in it (made with Laura's lovely yarn). We will be doing a World Wide Knit in Public event sometime between June 7 – June 15, 2014, location to be determined. Our next milestone prize will be at 1000 members, so join the Ravelry group! And don’t forget to knit hats and donate.

Also, thank you to Brenda for her generous donation to the podcast. Catching Up: (5:49) Jen stayed up way too late on New Years Eve, but she had a lot of fun. She's also been busy with work, especially since it's flu season (stay healthy everyone!). She's been playing Fallout 3 again, because she misses video games. And she's been drop spindling her pink corriedale, and cataloging her stash (except for the remnants and a few new things). Laura has been relaxing now that her family is gone. She has an adorable granddaughter (Jen can vouch for this). She's also been cataloging her stash. And she's been watching Downton Abbey. And she will play one more tournament of Nerd Wars to groom a new captain. In the Knitting Bag: (15:14) Jen has been working on vanilla socks in very old Opal Sock Yarn (the Rainforest series, colorway Flamingo, which is pink). She is over halfway done with the California Poppy Shawl by Lydia Tsymbal out of Baah La Jolla in My Sweet Valentine for Melissa. And she's been swatching out of Wollmeise DK, for her Sweetheart of the Rodeo Sweater. Laura has been working on her man sock out of Lambie Toes in No Touching Guns, an Olivia’s Butterfly Hat in Knitpicks Brava in grey. She is also working on a Doctor Who-inspired hat in Dizzy Blonde Studios Superwash DK in Smurfinator and Down the Garden Path by Michele DuNaier out of Lambie Toes in the Indefinable Allure Colorway, for a booth sample for Stitches West. Finished Objects: (19:17) Jen finished the Man Hat by Haven Leavitt out of blue Plymouth Encore Yarn and a Gerri Hat in Peter Pan Wendy Yarn in pink, both for Halos of Hope. And she can finally reveal her Christmas project: a St. Brigid sweater by Alice Starmore from Aran Knitting out of black Cascade 220. Dragon Tail Hat Laura finished another Big Damn Hero Hat by Dryope out of Knitpicks Brava in Canary, Orange, and Paprika. She also finished her Dragon Tail Hat by Jen Spears for Nerd Wars in Knitpicks Brava in Asphalt Heather and Dove Heather, an Odessa Hat by Grumperina out of Dizzy Blonde Studios Superwash DK in Jessica for her sister-in-law, with beads. And she finished the Spring Lacy Hat by My Hobby is Crochet out of Berroco Comfort in Copen Blue and Yellow. Devil's Tower: (25:34) Jen has Vanilla socks. And Laura is pulling out her 22 Leaves Shawlette by Lankakomero. She’s making it out ofMean Girls Yarn Club in Heart in a Box. Frog Pond: (26:39) Jen did run out of yarn on her St. Brigid, as she suspected. She used a ball with a non-matching dyelot for the collar treatment. She was lucky she was using Cascade and black so the dyelots weren't too far apart and it's almost impossible to tell. Laura frogged her Sous Chef hat by Marly Bird because she didn't like how the colors looked together. We mention Sassy Gay Friend. On Deck: (32:41) Jen will be making her sweater that she's been swatching for, hats (including a stripey one out of the Delicious Yarns Frosting Worsted in Blueberry and Pistachio leftover from her gramps cardigan) and yellow hat using some leftover Encore Worsted. She will also look for more remnants to make some stripey. Laura will be actually starting her Who-inspired hat, a stripey hat for January, and she wants to do Ysolda Teague's Follow Your Arrow Mystery KAL out of Knitpicks Chroma Fingering and Gloss. Knit Culture: (37:54) Stashdown 2014! We challenge ourselves and our listeners to reduce stash as a year-long project. Knit from your stash all year long. Catalog your stash and find out what you have (however you want to). Then set goals for yourself. Each month will have a theme and a thread to post FOs along the theme and there will be prizes. Set some goals for yourself (these are personal, so whatever you want). Jen’s goals are to buy no yarn except for at Stitches West or if Wollmeise Lace becomes available and to knit/crochet/spin at least 20000 yards of yarn (this may be reassessed). Laura will only buy yarn at Stitches (as much as she wants) and only one skein of yarn at smaller festivals. She wants to knit at least 1/3 of her stash (or maybe this needs to be evaluated). She will check her stash before she buys yarn for projects. We recommend Knitmeter.com to help track your yardage. January's Theme is Stripe it Up! We take a page from Halos of Hope--use up your leftover Christmas project yarn (or other remnants) to make projects. Post your FOs on January's theme here. January's flash prize is to Flash Your Stash! Do it here for a chance to win January's flash prize (a digital copy of Doomsday Knits courtesy of Cooperative Press.) Fall down in your goals? No problem! Just go to the Confessional Thread for no judgement support to get back on that horse. Ravellenic Games! For the 2014 Ravellenic Games (this links to the Ravelry group) we've thrown our hat in with Team Sasquatch (a giant pan-podcast team). So join us! Geek Culture: (47:54) We review Doomsday Knits by Alexandra Tinsley and published by Cooperative Press. (This is where knit and geek culture collide). Digital retails for 16.95 USD and 29.95 USD for a print+pdf version (the print version will be available later). We love this book! The patterns are clever and lovely and it has a sense of humor. We love the styling for the most part. Some of the sweaters would be very unflattering for larger people, but that's okay. The accessories are fantastic. Four Thumbs up (and a toe!) Events: (58:53) We will be at Stitches West, which is February 20-23 in Santa Clara, CA at the Convention Center. We will be doing a meet and greet, time to be announced. We are taking classes. Jen is taking Design Inspiration with Lily Chin, Design in a Day with Christine Bylsma, and Where do They Get Those Numbers with Edie Eikman. Laura is taking Around the World: Japanese & German Lace with Brooke Nico. We have to cancel Knit 2 Together with Yarn on Tap due to scheduling conflicts. Our next milestone prize will be at 1000 members, so join the Ravelry group! And don’t forget to knit hats and donate.

Thank you so much to Alamitos Bay Yarn Company for letting us use their space and to everyone who came out and donated hats. Laura has been having a lot of family time, including visits from her sister-in-law (who is MIllieHanS on Ravelry. She is tired from getting the house ready. She is doing a lot of Stitches West prep. She may take Tournament 10 off from Nerd Wars. She is possibly seeking a new captain or co-captain for Team Browncoat. We mention Ysolda's Mystery knitalong. Jen has been baking fancy pies for various holiday events. She's been trying to get into the Christmas spirit, because she's been working a lot. Jen got her tree up though. Santa will bringing Laura's Christmas tree (which is what her step-granddaughter are used to). Jen has the whole week off and is looking forward to it, because knitting time! And the Doctor Who Christmas special. Jen has also entered the 30 Day Sweater Design Competition, so thank you to everyone who voted for her. In the Knitting Bag: (14:09) Spring Lacy Hat Grumperina Hat Laura is working on a third Big Damn Hero Hat by Dryope out of Knitpicks Brava in Rust, Yellow, and Orange. She's also working on an r Odessa Hat (without beads) by Grumperina out of Dizzy Blonde Studios Superwash DK in the color Jessica (turquoise) for her sister-in-law. She's also working on a Spring Lacy Hat by My Hobby is Crochet out of Berroco Comfort in Copen Blue and Lemon for a woman at work who is getting chemo. Jennifer is knitting the California Poppy Shawl by Lydia Tsymbal out of Baah La Jolla in My Sweet Valentine for Melissa. She's also knitting a Man Hat by Haven Leavitt out of blue Plymouth Encore Yarn for Halos of Hope. And she is working on her Kently Socks by Heather Ordover out of Koigu. Finished Objects: (20:02) Flick Wig (So Gidget) Laura finished a Flick Wig by Wild Daffodil in Berroco Vintage Chunky Yarn in chocolate for a friend's mom. (We point you to Episode 1 for the story of this yarn, which was Laura's first Frog Pond story for the show and involves a Sylvi Coat and the Yggdrasil Afghan.) She made an Olivia’s Butterfly Hat out of Berroco Comfort in Copen Blue. Gramps Cardigan Easy Baby Sweater Jen finished her Easy Baby Sweater by Susan Mills out of Classic Elite Liberty Wool in Caribbean Tide for her nephew. She also finished gramps by tincanknits out of Delcious Yarns Frosting Worsted in Blueberry and Pistachio, again for her nephew. She finished a vanilla hat in Blue and White Encore for the Throwdown. And she finished her secret Christmas project. Devil's Tower: (25:32) Laura has put her Sous Chef hat by Marly Bird out of Knitpicks Brava in Rouge and Coral. It's just too labor intensive right now. Her sock design in Lambie Toes is also on hold. We talk about Wollmeise and self-striping sock yarn. Jen is sad because her devils tower is too big. All of her Halos hats need ends woven in, she has shawls and cardigans and everything. Frog Pond: (29:33) Laura had to tink back three rows on the Grumperina hat, because she was talking too much while knitting. Jen had to frog her entire California Poppy Shawl because she made a big mistake and she was only 24 rows in. She decided it wasn't worth it to drop down and fix it, because that would have taken just as long as frogging and re-knitting. She also accidentally stabbed herself in the chin with a darning needle. Be careful with those things. On Deck: (34:11) Laura wants to make a Dragon Tail Hat by Jen Spears for Nerd Wars, Doctor Who-inspired hat out of Dizzy Blonde Superwash DK in Smurfinator, and Down the Garden Path by Michele DuNaier out of Lambie Toes for her Stitches West booth. Jen will be working on more hats (maybe even a crochet hat), her cardigan design (she's excited to use her Wollmeise), and she really wants to do some colorwork so she might make Water for the Elephants by Rose Hiver or mitts inspired by Jacaranda blossoms (her own designs). Knit Culture (39:41) We review Dishcloth Diva by Deb Buckingham, which the awesome people at Cooperative Press sent us. We recommend it. Knitted dishcloths rock for cleaning dishes and faces and the small patterns are great for beginning knitters (little girls can make wool doll blankets) or knitters that need stuff on the go. It's very informative. Jen wants to make them into quilt squares and pillows. The motifs are really lovely and versitile. Four thumbs up (and a toe!) We announce the 2014 Stashdown. We like themes for the year more than resolutions (we are cribbing shameless from the Knitmore Girls). We both have obscene stashes, so for 2014 we have set some goals to reduce stash. Jen's 2014 theme is to simplify her life and create things to make her life overwhelming, which involves letting go of a lot of stuff. She wants to get rid of her stash by knitting. Jen's goals are to buy no yarn except for at Stitches West or if Wollmeise Lace becomes available and to knit at least 20000 yards of yarn (this may be reassessed). Laura will only buy yarn at Stitches (as much as she wants) and only one skein of yarn at smaller festivals. She wants to knit at least 1/3 of her stash. She will check her stash before she buys yarn for projects. There will be a confessional thread for when you fall down. No judgement, just acknowledgment to help you get back onto your goal. Go to the general Stashdown Thread on Ravelry to post your goals and chit chat about your stashdown ideals. We'll open the January and confessional thread soon. We also recommend using a meter from Knitmeter.com to track how much you've knit, crochet, or spin over the year. Geek Culture: (57:39) We talk about Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is at its midseason hiatus. We both want to love the series, but right now we only like it. We are hopeful for the future, knowing how Joss's first seasons go. We point out the Star Trek Renegades trailer. We also point out io9's article about 10 TV Shows that Desperately Need Their Own Drinking Game. Events: (1:08:55) We will be at Stitches West, which is February 20-23 in Santa Clara, CA at the Convention Center. Dizzy Blonde Studios & Skeindalous Yarns are sharing a booth (booth 906); we will update you with the booth number when we get it. Halos of Hope will have a booth (booth 908) and we may have a Meet and Greet. We will will be at the Friday Night Pajama Party, hosted by Marly Bird. It's a lot of fun, we hope to see you there. The Dizzy Blonde booth is a collection point for Halos of Hope hats for Team KnottyGirls (the final collection point!). With prizes! Shout out to the Purlescence Girls! We will get together with the Yarn on Tap Girls for an event we call Knit2Together. This will be sometime in January at a point halfway between us and we will knit hats for Halos of Hope. Our next milestone prize will be at 1000 members, so join the Ravelry group! And don’t forget to knit hats and donate. P.S. What Does the Fox Say?

This episode is sponsored by Dizzy Blonde Studios. “Beautifully hand-dyed yarns in a variety of superwash bases and inspired knit design.” Listen to the episode for a special coupon code. Catching Up: (1:03) Jen is playing a lot of guitar to prepare for two benefit gigs: one for Generations on the Move and one for the Village of Hope. She's also prepping to teach. Laura's father has been ill with SIADH, but he is recovering. She is also working on the Sunnydale Yarn Club. Pre-registration is open now! Knit Dizzney was so much fun! Thank you to the following people who provided swag and coupons for the goody bags: Benjamin Levisay from XRX, 5elementknitr, Wolfe Farms, Yarn Garden, Yarnosphere, and Karen from id.me Promotions. And thank you to all who came. In the Knitting Bag: (10:07) Jen is working on an Aesop's Cables hat for the Podcaster Throwdown out of Red Heart Soft. She's also working on her Watership Dow out of Unique Sheep Selene in the color Nature Walk. She's also started her Rocky Coast Cardigan out of Fibre Company Organik in the colorway Highlands. She started the California Poppy Shawl out of Baah La Jolla in My Sweet Valentine. This is for Melissa, who wants the shawl, but doesn't want to knit it. Finally, she has one Sunshine Sock done and the second one cast on. She loves working with the Dream in Color Smooshy in Butter Peeps and Laura wants to eat it, because it looks like Peeps. Laura is working on the Claudia Hat out of Berroco Vintage in Vintage for the Podcaster Throwdown. She is working on two pairs the Tree of Life Mitts for a friend and his wife. The first pair is in Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in Forest Heather. She is also knitting some socks (Roman udones like this) for Roman re-enactment out of Knitpicks Palette in Clover Green. She's almost done with her Sassy-tis (Clapotis). Finished Objects: (16:11) Gratuitous Artsy Shot Jen finished her Effervescence Cardigan for Camp Loopy, just under the wire. And she's done 3 hats for the Throwdown, two Gerri hats (one in Wendy Peter Pan yarn and one in Naturally Caron Spa) and one Hermione Hearts Ron in leftover Pashmina. One Throwdown Hat! BOOM! Laura has finished her Malcub Reynolds Mother Bear and one Throwdown hat, the Reversible Beehive Hat in Berroco Comfort. Devil's Tower (20:05) The Broncos Scarf (Lattice Wingspan) is coming back out, because she ran out of yarn, but now she got more. Frog Pond: (20:49) Jen made her Aesop's Cables too short so she has to redo the top part. Laura maybe used the wrong needle size when casting on her Claudia hat and is debating ripping it out. It's wading in the frog. On Deck: (23:34) Jen is going to do a sweater design inspired by the cover of the Sweetheart of the Rodeo album; Laura will make a second pair of Tree of Life Mitts in gray. Both will work on more hats for the throwdown. Knit Culture: (25:32) We give an update on the Podcaster Throwdown. Listen to Episode 8.5 for information. You can join our Ravelry group. The teams currently in are Craftlit and Knitmore Girls. There is a rumor about Webs. Laura calls out the Yarniacs and Knit 1 Geek 2 to join. We are giving away the Eton Hat if you submit a hat for Team KnottyGirls in September. We are sourcing prizes... We review Fiber Factor Challenge 4. We review Wrapped in Color: Stranded Knitting in the 21st Century by Deborah Tomasello. We definitely recommend checking it out. And we have in interview with Johnny Vasquez of the 30 Day Sweater Challenge. There are awesome prizes and if you want sign up, you can go here Geek Culture: (1:00:05) We discuss upcoming geeky television shows for fall, including a re-air of Torchwood: Miracle Day and Orphan Black on BBC-America. Events: (1:08:57) Dizzy Blonde Yarns will also be for sale at the Yarnosphere Fiber Festival, in the Toluca Knit Jewelry and Fine Yarns Booth. This is a new festival, taking place October 12 and 13th. We will not be there, because we are at Cogknitive, but go support so we can keep a cool yarn festival here. We will both be at the CogKNITive Fiber Retreat in Tehachapi from the evening of October 11th to the morning of October 13. Dizzy Blonde will be a vendor and Jen will just be hanging out and taking classes. The retreat is full, but contact Dr. Gemma to be on the waiting list. We will be collecting hats for Halos of Hope! We will be at the Southern California Handweaver's Guild Annual Weaving and Fiber Festival (WEFF) at the Torrance Convention Center. Parking is free, entry is seven dollars. Laura will be vending. You can drop off Halos Hats at her booth. We will be having a Knitalong in October! The Socktober Knitalong!
