Gluten-free diets were initially intended for children with medical conditions such as celiac disease, wheat allergy, and non-celiac gluten sensitivity A review published in Frontiers in Nutrition found that gluten-free diets, when not medically required, can cause nutrient gaps and raise health risks for children A recent study in The American Journal of Gastroenterology found that young patients exhibited a significant increase in urinary arsenic and other metal levels after only six months on a gluten-free diet When cooked properly, white rice can be a smarter choice than brown rice because it's easier to digest, contains less arsenic and heavy metals Instead of cutting out foods that are good for your gut, include healthy carbs, choose stable fats over seed oils, and learn to calm your food fears

We welcome back family counselor Erin Cox to talk about how we talk about the immigration raids and ICE detentions taking place in the United States, the children who are being detained, and the fear all children are absorbing from the news, social media, and their communities. We discuss what's happening on the ground in places like Minnesota, Texas, and Portland; why it's making so many of us feel frightened and disoriented; and what we can do as parents whose children are directly impacted—and for those kids who are learning about it online. We discuss how children communicate distress through behavior and play and why empathy and emotional vocabulary are essential tools we can teach our children. Erin explains the importance of co-regulation—how children borrow calm from the adults in their lives—and shares ways parents can care for their own nervous systems so they can show up as a steady presence. While fear may be the point of these tactics, connection, community, and resilience are how we can respond. Sixteen bullets. Two victims. Two children left crying in a house with their dead parents. The autopsy reports for Spencer and Monique Tepe are now public — and they paint a brutal picture of what happened inside that Weinland Park bedroom on December 30th. Every wound was to the upper body. Both victims had defensive injuries. The trajectories show they moved, turned, tried to escape. The shooting continued anyway. This episode breaks down the forensic signature of the crime and what it tells us about the psychology of the person accused of committing it. Michael McKee — Monique's ex-husband — allegedly waited eight and a half years after their divorce before allegedly executing her and her new husband. Court documents describe years of alleged threats, stalking behavior, and an obsession that never faded. He allegedly told her she would "always be his wife" and that he could "kill her at any time."Forensic psychologists call this pattern a "grievance collector" — someone who catalogs wounds to their ego and nurtures them for years until the grievance becomes justification. McKee's alleged behavior fits this profile precisely. The surveillance weeks before the murders. The stolen license plates. The phone going dark the night of the killings. The sticker scraped off his vehicle afterward. What makes this case uniquely disturbing is the combination of explosive violence and meticulous control. A full magazine emptied, but confined to the bedroom. Children left unharmed but orphaned. And a suspect who allegedly drove home and went back to work. That's not rage. That's architecture.#MichaelMcKee #SpencerTepe #MoniqueTepe #TepeCase #HiddenKillers #TrueCrimePodcast #ForensicPsychology #GrievanceCollector #ColumbusHomicide #DomesticViolenceMurderJoin Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? The weeklong “Operation Reclaim and Rebuild” campaign was part of a yearly effort by the Los Angeles Regional Human Trafficking Task Force and 80 local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna laid out the exact numbers at a news conference, later posted on X. A total of 611 criminal arrests were made and 156 adults rescued as part of the operations, Luna told reporters. In addition, 14 children were rescued from sex trafficking. Officials said 71 suspected traffickers were arrested, and an additional 328 sex buyers were arrested. “This is a multibillion-dollar industry,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman said. “It is nothing less than modern slavery.” According to the Los Angeles Times' reporting of the announcement: Source: breitbart.com Geopolitical Spain Amnesty: Gov't to Take Illegals' Word That They Don't Have Criminal Record The socialist Spanish government's amnesty scheme will allow illegal migrants to simply declare that they have no criminal record, rather than providing documentation from their native countries, sparking concern over criminals gaming the system. While the scheme stipulates that amnesty will not apply to migrants with criminal records — other than the crime of entering Spain illegally — the regularisation decree published by the government this week revealed that Madrid will essentially be willing to take the word of illegal migrants about their past. In April 2025, Gabbard told a Cabinet meeting that her office had obtained evidence showing U.S. electronic voting systems have long been vulnerable to hacking. “We have evidence of how these electronic voting systems have been vulnerable to hackers and vulnerable to exploitation to manipulate the results of the votes being cast,” she said, adding that this supports the push for nationwide paper ballots so voters can trust the integrity of U.S. elections. https://twitter.com/canncon/status/2019054407954956637?s=20  Bureau of Investigation Vic Reynolds told Senator Perdue, “I’m a team player. And Reynolds wasn’t the only person who ignored election fraud evidence or maladministration and got appointed to a Superior Court judgeship. He wasn’t even the second one. Most people are exposed to multiple food additives every day because they're built into common packaged foods, not just occasional treats Children receive a higher additive load from the same foods adults eat, which places more strain on developing systems tied to growth, metabolism, and brain function Food additives are consumed as mixtures that stack across meals, even though safety limits are usually set for single ingredients in isolation "New and improved" food formulations often replace one additive with another instead of reducing overall exposure Shifting daily eating patterns toward whole foods and simpler ingredient lists lowers additive exposure without constant label checking

In this episode of Facing the Dark, Wayne Stender and Dr. Kathy respond to a landmark legal case that is already reshaping conversations around gender, medicine, and parental fear. A 22-year-old woman, who identified as male as a teenager, was awarded $2 million after a jury found that medical professionals failed to follow standards of care when approving irreversible surgery while she was still a minor. The case raises sobering questions about pressure, fear, consent, and what happens when adults rush to solve a child's distress rather than fully understanding it. Rather than debating politics or policy, this conversation centers on parents, especially those who feel trapped between wanting their child to be safe, wanting them to be happy, and being told that immediate medical intervention is the only loving option. Dr. Kathy speaks candidly about how fear, particularly fear fueled by suicide narratives, can override discernment, silence conscience, create fear, and lead families to decisions they never imagined they would make. The episode explores a crucial distinction: dissatisfaction is not the same as identity. Many kids experience discomfort with their bodies, peer rejection, teasing, or confusion during puberty, but discomfort does not automatically require eradication. Dr. Kathy challenges parents to ask better questions, slow the process down, and help children understand why they feel dissatisfied before affirming irreversible conclusions. Drawing from Raising Gender-Confident Kids, the discussion reframes confidence not as denying struggle, but as building the moral and emotional "chest" that helps children hold discomfort without being swept away by fear or cultural pressure. Parents are encouraged to walk with their kids through seasons of confusion, offering presence, truth, protection, and endurance, rather than rushing to solutions that promise immediate relief but carry lifelong consequences. Rooted in Scripture, the episode reminds listeners that many temptations come dressed as compassion, offering partial truths without full disclosure of cost. Children are especially vulnerable to these narratives when adults bypass conscience in the name of urgency. True love, the hosts argue, does not panic; it shepherds. This episode offers parents courage, clarity, and hope: you are not cruel for slowing down, asking questions, or helping your child sit with discomfort. In fact, that steady presence may be the very thing that forms confidence, resilience, and lasting peace.

Daily Emunah Podcast - Daily Emunah By Rabbi David Ashear

It is so comforting to know that no matter what situation we are going through, help is always possible. There is nothing beyond Hashem, and salvation can always come in the blink of an eye. Sometimes what is needed is deeper, more heartfelt prayer. Sometimes what is needed is a heroic act. And sometimes it is a combination of both. We do not know what else we need to do to be zocheh to the yeshuah we are waiting for, but Hashem knows. And we are able to ask Him to please place before us the opportunity to do the deed that will merit us the salvation we are hoping for. We can also ask Hashem to help us recognize that opportunity when it comes, and to give us the strength to rise to it. Everything is possible. Even the hope and belief we place in Hashem is, in itself, a great zechut. Rabbi Yitzchak Zilberstein related the following story, as it was told to him by the person to whom it happened. A man we will call Yosef shared that his daughter got married two years ago, at the beginning of the month of Nisan. The Shabbat Sheva Berachot was scheduled to take place in a hall in Kiryat Sefer. There were ninety people attending, which meant extensive planning for meals and sleeping arrangements. Finally, Shabbat arrived. While the tables were still being set, the generator suddenly failed and the entire hall went dark. Aside from a few candles, there was complete darkness. The hot plates warming the food shut off, and the refrigerators storing the upcoming meals also stopped working. The men were praying in total darkness, and the person in charge of the hall was running around desperately trying to find a solution. He attempted to locate a non-Jew, relying on a leniency brought in the Rama in cases of great need, but he was unable to find anyone. People nearby arranged for the food to be transferred to functioning refrigerators and hot plates, while everyone worked on strengthening their emunah and accepting that this too was for the best. Suddenly, a young man approached Yosef with an idea. He explained that he lived in the building across from the hall and had a large, beautiful living room with an attached yard. He happily offered to host all ninety guests in his home. Yosef hesitated. "It's only a few days before Pesach," he said. "Your house is surely already cleaned. How can you host ninety men, women, and little children? We would need to bring over all the tables and chairs and set everything up. Your furniture would have to be moved. Things could get damaged. Children will be running around eating chametz. And your own family is about to eat their Shabbat meal. We would be disturbing you tremendously." But the man, like an angel, pleaded again and again. Yosef was still reluctant, until the man finally said, "If you come, our joy will be even greater than yours." Seeing that there was no other viable option, Yosef agreed. Very quickly, everyone pitched in and transferred everything from the hall to the man's home. What followed was an extraordinary evening, far more beautiful than it would have been in the hall. The baal habayit was unbelievably gracious. He moved his own family elsewhere to eat and gave the wedding party full use of his home. Only once during the meal did he come in, and the guests seized the opportunity to thank him and ask how they could ever repay such an incredible kindness. He answered that he had a daughter who was still waiting for a shidduch, and he asked everyone to please give her a berachah that she should find her zivug soon. The entire crowd responded with a heartfelt berachah, filled with deep gratitude. Just a few weeks later, the man called Yosef with wonderful news. His daughter had gotten engaged. The day after the Sheva Berachot, they had received a positive response from a shidduch they were hoping for, and Baruch Hashem, it worked out. They later discovered that the young man had many offers, but when he heard about how this family had taken in ninety guests for a Sheva Berachot just days before Pesach, he chose to say yes. This man performed a heroic act by opening his already Pesach-cleaned home to so many people. That act became the catalyst for the yeshuah he had been longing for, his daughter's engagement. Hashem can always bring salvation. Our role is to pray, to seek out zechuyot, and to ask Hashem to give us the opportunities we need to get them

A Prayer to Experience Childlike Wonder

    Your Daily Prayer Podcast

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 4, 2026 6:55 Transcription Available

Children have a remarkable way of experiencing the world. Simple moments—a puddle, a song, a favorite food—can fill them with joy and amazement. But as adults, responsibilities and routines often crowd out that sense of wonder. Life can shrink to the size of our to-do lists, even though God invites us into something far bigger. Jesus’ words in Matthew 18 remind us that childlike faith and humility are not immature traits—they are essential to experiencing the kingdom of heaven. Childlike wonder opens our eyes to see God as both infinitely powerful and intimately near. It nurtures trust, helping us rely on God’s promises without overanalyzing or giving way to worry. When we pause to marvel at what God has already done—especially the salvation we have through Christ—it becomes easier to trust Him with what we face today. Wonder shifts our focus from our problems to God’s power, from control to confidence in His care. It restores joy, allowing us to rediscover the extraordinary wrapped inside everyday life. Living with childlike wonder doesn’t mean ignoring responsibilities. It means approaching life with humility, trust, and joyful expectation—choosing to see God at work and to delight in His presence each day. Main Takeaways Childlike wonder helps us experience God’s kingdom more fully. Humility opens our hearts to trust God’s promises without fear or overanalysis. Remembering what God has already done builds confidence for what He will do next. Wonder restores joy by helping us see God’s power and love in ordinary moments. Today’s Bible Verse “And he said: ‘Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven.’” – Matthew 18:3, NIV Your Daily Prayer Here is a brief excerpt from today’s prayer: “Reawaken the spirit of the child within me so I can fully enter into Your wonderful kingdom… Let wonder restore my joy.” Listen to the full prayer here or read the full prayer and devotional through the resources below. It's Wednesday, February 4th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Jonathan Clark Colombian president denies divinity of Jesus Christ Christians across Colombia recoiled at recent remarks made by President Gustavo Petro. The nation's leader denied that Jesus is Christ, describing Him instead as a “man of light, of truth and a revolutionary.” This public attack on Biblical truth comes as Christians continue to face persecution and physical attacks in the country.  Criminal organizations have killed at least 10 pastors in Colombia over the last year. Sadly, the government provides little protection for church leaders. Psalm 2:11-12 warns rulers, “Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.” U.S. forces shoot down Iranian drone over Arabian Sea A U.S. fighter jet shot down an Iranian drone as it approached a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Arabian Sea on February 3rd, the U.S. Central Command has announced, reports The Epoch Times. The incident comes at a moment of heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran. President Donald Trump recently ordered naval forces to the Middle East and has threatened military strikes on Iran if it does not agree to new limits on its nuclear development. The U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, said the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln was operating about 500 miles from Iran's southern coast on Tuesday, when U.S. forces spotted what they identified as an Iranian Shahed-139 drone. When the Iranian drone “unnecessarily maneuvered toward” the aircraft carrier, the U.S. Central Command said U.S. forces issued de-escalatory instructions, but the drone continued on its path toward the aircraft carrier. That's when an F-35C Lighting II stealth fighter jet, assigned to the aircraft carrier, intervened and shot down the drone. Thankfully, no American service members were harmed during the incident, and no U.S. equipment was damaged. Conservative candidate wins presidency of Costa Rica Meanwhile in Central America, conservative candidate Laura Fernández Delgado won Costa Rica's presidential election on Sunday. She gave thanks to God following the election victory.  Life News reports that Fernández emphasized moral values and the protection of unborn babies during her campaign. She stated, “Defending the lives of Costa Ricans who have not yet been born is an obligation of the State. Abortion is nothing more than murder and, therefore, penalties must be toughened.” Christian groups looking to overturn homosexual marriage In the United States, a coalition of conservative groups launched a campaign last month to overturn Obergefell.  The infamous Supreme Court ruling from 2015 legalized faux homosexual marriage.  The campaign, known as the Greater Than movement, calls for protecting children from being put in the middle of such unbiblical relations.  Listen to comments from Dr. Albert Mohler, president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary.  MOHLER: “Marriage is actually the most basic institution of human civilization. You redefine marriage, you have just destroyed the house. You can put together a new house and claim it's the same. Children will know the difference. It harms children in virtually every way imaginable.” De-transitioner awarded $2 million The Epoch Times reports a New York jury found a psychologist and plastic surgeon liable for malpractice in a transgender case last week.  The doctors supported and performed a double mastectomy on a 16-year-old girl who claimed to be a boy. Fox Varian is 22 now and no longer pretends to be a boy. She was awarded two million dollars in the case. Varian is the first de-transitioner to win such a malpractice lawsuit.  Nearly 30 more de-transitioner lawsuits are in process across America. Trump stands with pharmacies for not carrying Abortion Kill Pills The Trump administration is protecting pharmacies from having to carry abortion kill pills. Under the Biden administration, the Department of Health and Human Services required pharmacies serving Medicare or Medicaid patients to carry abortion drugs. The department rescinded that mandate last week. This is part of the government's policy to “end the forced use of Federal taxpayer dollars to fund or promote elective abortion.”  Red states are growing and blue states are shrinking The U.S. Census Bureau released its latest Population and Housing Unit Estimates last week. Red states, like Texas, are growing, while blue states, like California, are shrinking.  Based on this, the American Redistricting Project released its 2030 Apportionment Forecast of how these demographic trends will affect Congress. Texas and Florida could gain a combined eight congressional seats. Meanwhile, California and New York could lose six seats. 83% of U.S. adults believe in God; 25% attend weekly religious service Pew Research released new analysis of Americans' religious beliefs and practices. The analysis shared the data as if the U.S. population were scaled down to 100 people.  In that case, 83 people would believe in God or a universal spirit. Fifty-two would believe in Heaven and Hell. Forty-four would pray daily. Thirty-eight would say religion is very important in their lives. And only 25 would say they attend religious services at least weekly.  Romans 11:5 reminds us, “Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” U.S. life expectancy rose to 79 And finally, U.S. life expectancy rose to a record 79 years in 2024. This according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Life expectancy at birth for women rose to 81, and for men it rose to 76. Meanwhile, the age-adjusted death rate decreased nearly four percent from 2023. The increased life expectancy comes after improvements following the COVID-19 pandemic as well as declines in overdose deaths.  Close And that's The Worldview on this Wednesday, February 4th, in the year of our Lord 2026. Follow us on X or subscribe for free by Spotify, Amazon Music, or by iTunes or email to our unique Christian newscast at www.TheWorldview.com.  I'm Adam McManus (Adam@TheWorldview.com). This episode of EM Pulse dives into one of the most stressful scenarios in the ED: the febrile infant in the first month of life. Traditionally, a fever in this age group has meant an automatic “full septic workup,” including the dreaded lumbar puncture (LP). But times are changing. We sit down with experts Dr. Nate Kuppermann and Dr. Brett Burstein to discuss a landmark JAMA study that suggests we might finally be able to safely skip the LP in many of our tiniest patients. The Study: A Game Changer for Neonates Our discussion centers on a massive international pooled study evaluating the PECARN Febrile Infant Rule specifically in infants aged 0–28 days. While previous guidelines were conservative due to a lack of data for this specific age bracket, this study provides the evidence we've been waiting for. The Cohort: A large pool of infants across multiple countries. The Findings: The PECARN rule demonstrated an exceptionally high negative predictive value for invasive bacterial infections. The Big Win: The rule missed zero cases of bacterial meningitis. Defining the Danger: SBI vs. IBI The experts break down why we are shifting our terminology and our clinical focus. Serious Bacterial Infection (SBI)  Historically, this was a “catch-all” term including Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs), bacteremia, and meningitis. However, UTIs are generally more common, easily identified via urinalysis, and typically less life-threatening than the other two. Invasive Bacterial Infection (IBI)  This term refers specifically to bacteremia and bacterial meningitis. These are the “high-stakes” infections the PECARN rule is designed to rule out. Dr. Kuppermann notes that we should ideally view bacteremia and meningitis as distinct entities, as the clinical implications of a missed meningitis case are far more severe. The HSV Elephant in the Room One of the primary reasons clinicians hesitate to skip an LP in a neonate is the fear of missing Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) infection. Low Baseline Risk: While the overall risk of HSV in a febrile infant is low, the risk of “isolated” HSV (meningitis without other signs or symptoms) is even rarer. Screening Tools: Most infants with HSV appear clinically ill. Clinicians can also use ALT (liver function) testing as a secondary screen – transaminase elevation is a common marker for systemic HSV. Clinical Judgment: If the baby is well-appearing, has no maternal history of HSV, no vesicles, and no seizures, the risk of missing HSV by skipping the LP is exceptionally low. Practical Application: Shared Decision-Making This isn’t just about the numbers—it’s about the parents. “Families don’t mind their babies being admitted… They do not want the lumbar puncture. It is the single most anxiety-provoking aspect of care.” — Dr. Brett Burstein The PECARN “Low-Risk” Criteria:  (Remember, this rule applies only to infants who are not ill-appearing.) Urinalysis: Negative Absolute Neutrophil Count (ANC): ≤ 4,000/mm³ Procalcitonin (PCT): ≤ 0.5 ng/mL The Bottom Line: If an infant is well-appearing and meets these criteria, physicians can have a nuanced conversation with parents about the risks and benefits of forgoing the LP, while still admitting the child for observation (often without empiric antibiotics) while cultures brew. Key Takeaways The “Well-Appearing” Filter: If an infant looks ill, the rule does not apply. These patients require a full workup, including an LP, regardless of lab results. Meticulous Physical Exam: Assess for a strong suck, normal muscle tone, brisk capillary refill, and any rashes or vesicles. History is Key: Always ask about maternal GBS/HSV status, pregnancy or birth complications, prematurity, sick contacts, and any changes in feeding, stooling or activity. Procalcitonin: PCT is the superior inflammatory marker for this rule. If your facility only offers traditional markers like CRP, the PECARN negative predictive value cannot be strictly applied. In the words of Dr. Kuppermann: “If you don’t have it, for God’s sakes, just get it! ALT to Screen for HSV: While not part of the official PECARN rule, our experts suggest that significantly elevated liver enzymes should raise suspicion for systemic HSV. Observe, Don’t Discharge: Being “low risk” does not mean the infant goes home. All infants ≤ 28 days still require admission for 24-hour observation and blood/urine cultures.
