The Dingle Distillery International Film Festival is holding screenings at Ionad an Bhlascaoid (the Blasket Centre) in Dún Chaoin, this St. Brigid’s Weekend – tomorrow, Saturday 1st and Sunday, 2nd February. Presented in association with NEWKD, the event will feature four screenings of films on the theme of war and famine which will highlight the connection between Ireland and Ukraine. Tomorrow, February 1st, the Ukrainian Ambassador Larysa Gerasko will introduce, Family Album. The documentary tells the story of Samara Pearce, a British photographer whose great-grandfather Alexander Wienerberger became an accidental witness of Holodomor, the man-made famine in Ukraine in 1933. The podcast starts with a brief history of the growth of the Merriman Financial Literacy Foundation.  From it's small beginning in December 2012, it has produced over 1000 videos, articles and podcasts, published 6 books, spoken at many national conferences, underwritten a university class on investing for non finance majors at Western Washington University, produced portfolios for do it yourself investors, produced recommended mutual funds and ETFs to build the portfolios.  Most recently there is a new effort to give every Western student a meaningful exposure to personal finance.  This is being done under the Merriman Financial Literacy Program at Western. On September 16, we gathered at the stunning Ukrainian Institute of America in New York City for a very special evening. It was a celebration of the release of In the Shadow of Stalin, the powerful graphic novel adaptation of the film Mr. Jones, directed by the brilliant Agnieszka Holland. The night was filled with creativity, conversation, and community. Andrea had the honor of being joined by journalist Terrell Starr, who shared insights and moving stories from Ukraine. His firsthand account brought into sharp focus the ongoing struggle for freedom and the resilience of the Ukrainian people.
