Send us Fan MailAngelo, Rhea, and Jay are back to discuss Steven Spielberg falling off a cliff. Disclosure Day scored a huge opening weekend — $44 million domestic, $92.8 million worldwide, bigger than E.T., Saving Private Ryan, or The Fabelmans — and then dropped a staggering 62% in weekend two, landing a soft B CinemaScore on a $115 million budget that now needs to claw its way toward $300 million just to break even. Angelo reviews it, then discusses what went wrong.THEN: YouTube wiped out 16 faceless AI channels in a single sweep this year... 35 million subscribers, 4.7 billion lifetime views, and nearly $10 million in annual ad revenue, gone overnight. Is this the most ominous sign yet that low-effort consumption, the background YouTube videos and the filler Spotify tracks, is the first thing AI just quietly takes over? And the gang's real fight: does it even matter if nobody was paying close attention in the first place?ALL THAT PLUS: Widow's Bay, the merits of a Vancouver vacation without air conditioning, a harrowing new documentary on Netflix and much MUCH more!MAKE SURE TO VISIT OUR SPONSOR: Steven Singer Jewelers! The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes. The highest-rated TV show of the year has officially been crowned with a perfect score, but we are intensely divided. We unpack the incredible acting transformations, the separation of page-to-screen adaptations, and an unexpected appearance by our fave ever British period-drama icon. Plus a chaotic annual awards ceremony just celebrated the very best of pop culture, and the pre-written acceptance speeches have left the internet (and us) in absolute stitches. It is pure comedic escapism that will save you from a boring afternoon. Finally, a scathing new magazine exposé has sent shockwaves through internet culture, threatening the downfall of a powerful podcast mogul. Allegations of public screaming, inappropriate office behaviour, and weaponised empowerment have left the mogul's reputation in severe jeopardy. We break down the legal fallout, the defence strategy, and the upcoming tell-all book set to blow this feud wide open. Read the Vanity Fair article here. Any Given Sunday Review | Born to Watch PodcastOur Any Given Sunday Review takes the Born to Watch boys back to 1999 for Oliver Stone's chaotic, testosterone-fuelled dive into the world of professional football. Featuring Al Pacino, Jamie Foxx, Dennis Quaid and peak Cameron Diaz, Any Given Sunday promised everything a sports movie fan could want. But does it still hold up, or is this one all style and no substance?Whitey, Dan and special guest Will strap on the shoulder pads and revisit Oliver Stone's divisive NFL epic. What starts as a love letter to sports movies quickly turns into an examination of shaky cameras, over-the-top editing, giant egos and one of the most exhausting viewing experiences the boys have tackled in a while.Al Pacino brings his trademark intensity as veteran coach Tony D'Amato, desperately trying to hold together the Miami Sharks while battling a ruthless owner, rebellious players and a rapidly changing game. Jamie Foxx bursts onto the scene as Willie Beamen, the backup quarterback who suddenly becomes a superstar, while Dennis Quaid delivers a solid performance as ageing veteran Cap Rooney.Along the way, the boys discuss why Oliver Stone seems determined to assault your eyeballs with every editing trick imaginable. From subliminal gladiator imagery to frantic camera work and changing film stock, Whitey wonders whether the movie is trying too hard to be profound. Dan compares it to Natural Born Killers and argues that Stone's style overwhelms the actual story. The conversation naturally branches out into memories of 1999, drunken phone calls, encounters with Elizabeth Berkley, backup quarterbacks becoming heroes, and whether there is a more pressure-filled position in sport than an NFL quarterback. There's also plenty of appreciation for the stacked cast. James Woods shines as the dodgy doctor, LL Cool J delivers one of the biggest dickheads in sports movie history, and Lawrence Taylor proves real athletes can occasionally act. Meanwhile, Cameron Diaz splits the room, with Whitey refusing to give prime Diaz a quickfire vote despite the objections of everyone else.As always, the boys go deep into the IMDb ratings, box office numbers and critical reviews before throwing around comparisons to Varsity Blues, Office Space, American Beauty and other classics from the legendary year of 1999.But the biggest question remains. Is Any Given Sunday a genuine sports classic, or is it simply a two-and-a-half-hour migraine wrapped in slow motion and Kid Rock? One thing is certain. Whether they're discussing football strategy, Oliver Stone's obsession with gladiators or the horrors of professional athlete fashion, Whitey, Dan and Will once again prove that no movie is safe when it lands on Born to Watch.Join the TeamLove movies? It's time to enter the universe of Earth-38, more commonly referred to as The Arrowverse. Amazingly we're haven't really covered much of this in Caravan Of Garbage and the Supergirl 2015 series seems a good a place as any. This version again sees the character of Kara Zor-El arrive from Krypton a little late to encounter a fully grown Superman and finds herself directionless despite having all the powers all of the time. Blending a bit of The Flash/Arrow with the likes of Alley McBeal/The Devil Wears Prada it definitely does its own thing for good or ill or for middling results whilst also managing to introduce characters like Martian Manhunter, Bizarro Supergirl, Tyler Hoechlin's Superman, Lois Lane, Jimmy Olson, Brainiac, Maxwell Lord, Lex Luthor and more! On this episode of The Hollywood Outsider podcast, we are past the quarter century park, so it's time for reflection on television and its impact on us. Ergo, we debate the most rewatchable TV shows of this century. Send us Fan MailAngelo, Rhea, and Jay are back to discuss Byron Allen's DISASTROUS start at CBS. Viewership cratered 77%, from Colbert's 2.69 million average all the way down to 628,000. And the damage isn't staying in late night. People fall asleep with the TV on and wake up on the same channel. Colbert was feeding CBS local news. CBS local news was feeding CBS This Morning. Byron Allen just cut that pipeline. THEN: The Knicks just won their first championship since 1973, and Game 3 of the Finals pulled 23.79 million viewers, the biggest NBA audience since 2017. Last year's Thunder-Pacers Finals? Half those numbers. Same sport. Different cities. The gang debates whether this is proof the NBA is genuinely back, or proof of something more uncomfortable... that parity might actually be strangling the league's own ratings, and the best thing that could happen to the NBA is New York or LA in the Finals every single year.ALL THAT PLUS: British corner, a discussion about The Office and political correctness, Jay reviews Disclosure Day and much MUCH more!MAKE SURE TO VISIT OUR SPONSOR: Steven Singer Jewelers! The TV Show is a weekly podcast hosted by Jay Black, with regular guests Angelo Cataldi and Rhea Hughes. We got one of People Magazine's "Sexiest Men Alive" - Brian Michael Smith - on Black Fat Femme this week, and we get into discussions about authentic trans narratives, wanting more mediocrity (?!?), and the power of tranformative storytelling. From The L Word: Generation Q and 9-1-1: Lone Star, to his advocacy in film and television, Brian breaks down his journey from sports star to TV star while your favorite cohosts share their hot takes about parasocial relationships, being paid more for less, and some of the "hidden figures" in trans history. Sarah is back from Vegas where she attended the Enhanced Games, which allow competitors to use any FDA substance they want. We celebrate that, but we mourn the loss of buffets. Bring back the buffet! Susie watched a documentary about houses featured in movies and TV shows and the people who live in them. We hear why some owners hate it and others embrace their famous residences. We learned about the man who founded the E.L.F. makeup brand, who has received a higher calling and joined the priesthood! Susie watched the Hollywood Demons episode about Saved By the Bell, and we discuss the perils of childhood stardom and the tragedy of Screech's real life. Plus, we reminisce about the hilarious "star" experience we got when we were invited to the worst gifting suite of all time, but it keeps us humble.Brain Candy Podcast Website - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/Brain Candy Podcast Book Recommendations - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/books/Brain Candy Podcast Merchandise - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/candy-store/Brain Candy Podcast Candy Club - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/product/candy-club/Brain Candy Podcast Sponsor Codes - https://thebraincandypodcast.com/support-us/Brain Candy Podcast Social Media & Platforms:Brain Candy Podcast LIVE Interactive Trivia Nights - https://www.youtube.com/@BrainCandyPodcast/streamsBrain Candy Podcast Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastHost Susie Meister Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterHost Sarah Rice Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBrain Candy Podcast on X: https://www.x.com/braincandypodBrain Candy Podcast Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/braincandy (JOIN FREE - TONS OF REALITY TV CONTENT)Brain Candy Podcast Sponsors, partnerships, & Products that we love:Download HILY Dating App from the App Store or Google Play, or visit https://hily.go.link/4iJ1lGet 15% off OneSkin with the code BRAINCANDY at https://www.oneskin.co/BRAINCANDY #oneskinpod For 50% off your order, head to https://www.dailylook.com and use code BRAINCANDYGet 40% off your first order PLUS get a free item in every box for life when you go to https://www.hungryroot.com/braincandy and use code braincandyTDM-RESERVATION: 1. Every TV fan knows the feeling. You find a show that's absolutely incredible because of great characters, amazing writing and a story you can't stop thinking about. Then the network refuses to let it die. This week, we're discussing the TV shows that overstayed their welcome. From The Walking Dead and Lost to The Office, Yellowstone, American Horror Story, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, and more, we're breaking down which series peaked early, which slowly fell apart, and which hung around long after their best days were behind them.
