Tiokasin's guest is Will Falk, who will give an update on Thacker Pass in northern Nevada. In January 2021, Will and Max Wilbert launched an occupation of a proposed lithium mine at Thacker Pass. Will is a writer, lawyer, and environmental activist. He believes the ongoing destruction of the natural world is the most pressing issue confronting us today. Activism has taken Will to the Unist'ot'en Camp - an Indigenous cultural center and pipeline blockade on unceded Wet'suwet'en territory in so-called British Columbia, Canada, to a construction blockade on Mauna Kea in Hawai'i, and to endangered pinyon-juniper forests in the Great Basin. Will's first book, How Dams Fall: Stories the Colorado River Told Me was published in August, 2019 by Homebound Publications. For more information, visit https://www.protectthackerpass.org/. This week on The Final Straw, we're featuring a recent conversation with anarchist author and activist, Peter Gelderloos about his latest book, “The Solutions Are Already Here: Strategies For Ecological Revolution From Below”, published by Pluto Press in 2022. For the hour we speak about critiques of science and Western Civilization that Peter levels, as well as the centrality of struggling on the ground we stand on, creating autonomous infrastructure, resisting colonial extractivism and the need for imagination and care as we tear down this ecocidal system. Peter has prior authored such books as “Anarchy Works”, “How Non-Violence Protects The State”, and “Worshiping Power”, and you can find a number of his essays up on TheAnarchistLibrary.Org. You can also hear your interviews with Peter here: https://thefinalstrawradio.noblogs.org/post/category/peter-gelderloos/ Related Interviews: Anti-Pipeline Interviews Resisting Nuclear Waste Storage in Bure, France Resistance to AMLO Mega Projects in Mexico Protecting Khimki Forest in Moscow Interviews about ZAD to block airport expansion in NDDL, France An interview about the ZAD du Testet Resisting a new airport in Yogyakarta, Indonesia Tiny House Warriors Gidimt'en Access Point Mel Bazil on Unist'ot'en Resisting Gold Mine in Chalkadiki, Greece Serbian Resistance to Hydroelectric Dams No-TAV struggle in northern Italy Likhts'amisyu resistance to colonialism in so-called Canada Ecological struggles from PATIKA by DAF in Turkey, which is part 2 alongside of part 1 of our discussion with DAF Resisting the destruction of Hambacher Forest in Germany Errekaleor Bizirik squatted neighborhood in Euskadi and more... Announcements Call In For Eric King continues Anarchist and antifascist political prisoner, Eric King, has been transferred from Grady County Jail (where we spoke to him from for our April 3rd episode) to USP Lee in southwestern Virginia where he and his loved ones are afraid he will be put into solitary and attacked where there will be no witnesses. This comes directly after he won a trial against the federal Bureau of Prisons showing that he had been set up and punished for false reasons, subjected to obvious acts of petty and not so petty vengeance by the corrections officers, and in spite of the fact that his security level should have him at a medium security facility rather than a high security like Lee. There is a continued call-in campaign that his supporters are asking y'all to participate in. You can find more information in the show notes or at SupperEricKing.org as well as on the twitter, facebook and instagram pages for the under the name @SupportEricKing. May Day May Day is coming up real quick, y'all. The first of May has been known as a festival of spring bounty from pagan times in Europe, and has been celebrated by anarchists, socialists, communists and labor activists to commemorate the 1886 struggle for the power of workers against the capitalists and state and the remember the Haymarket Martyrs. We have a couple of episodes featuring content about May Day that we'll link here, but this is just a quick note to find other comrades and fellow travelers this May Day, there may be something going on in your area. And if there isn't, maybe you can organize an event with you friends! . ... . .. Featured Track The Commons by Sole and DJ Pain 1 from Post-American Studies

He and Am speak about his role in historical battles for Indigenous land rights over the decades, and the future of land defense. In the midst of overlapping crises of the global pandemic and the contamination of the drug supply, Grand Chief Stewart Phillip addresses the need for a stronger response from the government that focuses on the people rather than corporations. He digs into government shortcomings when it comes to respecting Indigenous jurisdiction over Indigenous lands, landmark victories, and the ongoing fight to protect Indigenous territories. He also addresses his unconditional love for the land and for the people as his motivation to continue the fight for justice, and the sense of hope he feels about passing the torch to this new generation of land defenders. A Tribe Called Red - "Land Back (feat. Boogey the Beat & Northern Voice)," a 2020 self-released single. Canadian DJ duo A Tribe Called Red have a long history of using their public platform to amplify the indigenous community, and with today's Song of the Day, they're showing their support for the Wet’suwet’en people, whose sovereign lands are being invaded by the RCMP and the Coastal GasLink pipeline. They're offering this song for free on their Soundcloud page and are encouraging listeners to donate to the Unist'ot'en 2020 Legal Fund in return. The band also shared this statement alongside the release: We oppose the invasion of sovereign Indigenous lands by the RCMP and the Coastal GasLink pipeline. We stand with the Wet’suwet’en people and their hereditary chiefs. We stand with all the people working to support their fight.  We will be making this song available to download for free and free to be used for anyone working to defend the Wet’suwet’en territories and all action that defend the right of Indigenous land sovereignty and to promote a true nation to nation discussion between the Indigenous nations of Turtle Island and our Canadian settlers.  Until our Canadians are willing to treat the Indigenous nations of this land with the respect due, a sovereign people’s reconciliation will remain an empty gesture.  It was the work of our good friend Whess Harman that inspired us to give the song away to the movement. Not only because of their work in the frontlines of resistance in Vancouver, but also because they are using their art for the movement. Whess designed the “Land Back” patch that is featured in our cover art, and has been selling them to raise money for the Unist'ot'en Camp Legal Fund. We will be making a donation to the same fund for our use of Whess' art. We encourage you to donate to the legal fund as well by following this link: https://actionnetwork.org/fundraising... There is a deal between hereditary chiefs of the Wet'suwet'en First Nation and the RCMP to give Coastal GasLink workers access to the natural gas pipeline near Houston in central BC. But Chief Na'Moks says they remain "adamantly opposed" to the project. The deal came after a 4-and-a-half hour meeting yesterday, and will see workers being allowed access across a bridge, and the RCMP removing a roadblock preventing some members of the First Nation from accessing the Unist'ot'en healing camp. As well, the Mounties will set up a temporary detachment to monitor the situation. Police say those in the area can expect to see an increase in officers, road closures and traffic disruptions.   During enforcement, public and media will be allowed to stand outside marked parameters of NO-GO zones.  Those NO-GO zones will remain in place as needed. In this Hotwire we share the anti-fascist call from Florida to oppose Richard Spencer in Gainesville on October 19. We discuss the upcoming J20 trials in which nearly 200 protesters are charged with conspiracy for protesting the inauguration, as well as the outcome of the burning cop car case that just concluded in Paris. Considering the bullshit repression and liberal lawsuits in the wake of #Charlottesville, we make the case about why anti-fascism must mean anti-statism.
