Oh boy. Trying to please everyone all the time sounds exhausting to me. But Tim Hawkes was keen to have a go at this question because he believes that saying, “You can't please everyone” is a cop out to not have to bother trying to make a situation better or care about upsetting people.   Stewart Wiggins agreed to a point. He shared an example of giving $20 prizes and people complaining that they were given $20 bills instead of smaller bills.   Lynn Whitbeck disagreed. Looking at it from a business standpoint she said, “This is not about pleasing everyone. This is about pleasing who you serve.” She then added that personally, as a woman, she abhors people pleasing.   The conversation didn't end there. We went back and forth and worked on what it means to try to please everyone all the time. Is it about pleasing or treating with dignity?   Listen to the whole conversation before you pass judgement on it. I think it is actually surprising where we started and where we ended up.   Based on this conversation, do you agree with Tim's idea of trying to please everyone or do you land more with Lynn and being focused about who you try to please?   Connect with the panelists: Tim Hawkes: https://www.linkedin.com/in/timhawkes/ Managing Director of Unlimited Potential. [19:26] - When you have people calling in because they were referred by a friend or family, they've already made the decision in their mind. That's the first soft sell. They've taken action and it's so much easier when they're in the chair to get the next level of Yes. [24:18] - How to coach your team with specific examples of what to say and how and when to say it. (pens and paper out!) [29:15] - Referrals are 93% more effective than any other form of marketing. The number one thing is getting your team on board with this because they're the ones who are constantly interacting with the patients. Lynn explains how you can do this effectively.

So, when you have that recipe, then you can execute on that and then (part of like the client journey) to build that profit in is, of course, you seed the referral process from the very first conversation and then all the way through your client journey so that when you've earned the right you ask for the referral. That shortens your sales cycle, brings you a more profitable business, you create introductions, and you feed your business. And in addition, of course, then you also can sell more to your existing clients." – LYNN"It's really asking for an introduction, not a referral. So, to me, a referral is longer. I would ask for an introduction because that's not as threatening, and that's not. That differs from a referral trust you and is passing on this trusted relationship. So that would be a formula that I would apply to." - LYNN"There's a difference between ghosting and a no-show. With a no-show, they don't come up or show up for the meeting. There are all kinds of extenuating circumstances and reasons around that, but I'm going to focus more on ghosting because it will cover some of that for the no-shows. But the first thing about ghosting is my question, which is rhetorical, but it's who's ghosting Because I want to be honest with sales, we sometimes ghost our prospects because we're not following up. Okay, so that is absolutely critical. So, let's talk about the reasons that people get ghosted because it is a morale killer for salespeople. And it's one of the top three things that salespeople list as one of the things that really hurt them in their business." – LYNN Connect with Lynn Whitbeck:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/lynnwhitbeck/Petite2Queen: https://petite2queen.com/Try Our Proven, 3-Step System, Guaranteeing Accountability and Transparency that Drives RESULTS by clicking on this link: https://oneofakindsales.com/call-center-in-a-box/  Connect with Nancy Calabrese: Twitter: https://twitter.com/oneofakindsalesFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/One-Of-A-Kind-Sales-304978633264832/Website: https://oneofakindsales.comPhone: 908-879-2911 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/ncalabrese/Email: leads@oneofakindsales.com

We talk about the customer journey map, emotions during the sales process, and the ever-evolving relationship between sales and marketing.    --- Get Inside Your Customer's Why with Lynn Whitbeck Our guest is Lynn Whitbeck, the President and CEO of Future Forward Sales, a specialist B2B sales consulting business focusing on the process, methods, and psychology of sales development. She is also the host of the Future Forward sales podcast. So without further ado, welcome to the show, Lynn. Steve, thank you so much. I am really excited to be here. This is going to be wonderful. Oh, yeah. It already is. So Lynn, please tell me a little bit about your entrepreneurial journey. How did you get here? What's been your road today? Well, let's just sort of pack that in. I'm going to start with my first experience of being an entrepreneur, and that was when I was a Girl Scout, and it was cookie time. And I wanted this really special cookie badge that you could only get if you sold this, you know, just big amount of cookies, right? And so I just got into doing the hustle to sell those cookies. I sort of went through this whole learning curve for sales. I recruited my friend to help, and she was really shy and reserved, but she went with me and she was handing out the cookies and I was selling them. We did. We did it. We got this exclusive cookie badge. In fact, we were the only two girls in our whole district who got that cookie badge. I guess you can just say that my love of entrepreneurship was born when I was a Girl Scout. It took me a while to figure that out, but when I was in sales, I was an entrepreneur, always doing. It was all about my value, my core value set, as to be of help and to be service to others. That was just a natural career flow. It led me into leadership positions. Here I am now today and I get to have the pleasure and the honor and privilege to train people on how to sell their products and services with incredible success. I really like when you said to me earlier, you were talking and you said to me that sales really leadership. I never framed it this way, but actually, I mean, it is completely true because you sell something because you believe it's good for the other person, and you are helping them make a decision, you are channeling their interest and their desire into your product. I do believe this is true. What is your interpretation of this? Everything you need to know about being a great leader, you learn in sales because sales is about learning to flex to the other person's style. It's about asking the right questions so you can understand what they want, need, or lack, you know, how it's going to benefit them so they can, because ultimately, you know, it's all about so they can, so they can do what, right? And that's what's so incredible about sales. And even in everyday life, think about you negotiate all day long at work and at home, just figuring out what you're going to watch on Netflix with the family, right? So, sale gives you all of these core power. Yeah, well, you just proved it that my wife is a better salesperson than I am. It's the only choice that she wants on Netflix. You just need to hone your negotiation skills. I guess so, I've been honing it for 10 years, but no, I will. So, I'm going to ask you about your business. I'm really excited to understand a little bit more how you build a sales organization. But before we go there, I'd like to ask you another question, which is about management blueprints, which is the title of this podcast. And I'm always looking for some gold nuggets from people who build successful businesses. So management blueprints are really cookie cutter methods to implement management concepts in your business. If you don't have the money to hire an MBA,

Find out how it all ties together in this final installment of the series, but moreover, discover how you can carry these insights into a successful new year. For us to find success in the year ahead, we'll need to come armed with not only knowledge and trajectories of the future, but also with key performance skills. Luckily, Lynn and Patrick have spent much of this year detailing the top 11 skills that will ensure an upward lift. It all started with Problem Solving, the ability to not only address issues, but foresee them and plan ahead. We then learned about Engagement, outlining why it's so vital to connect with others and foster an inclusive atmosphere. With Resilience - a key word that's defined much of 2020 in general! - we saw the value of working through the challenges so you can come out on top. Flexibility has been another instrumental part of this year, but don't forget how it can have major impacts on your sales career! On a related note, Originality can be the key to not only standing out, but actually getting the sale. And remember, a little Resourcefulness can go a long way to overcoming tough spots. Patrick and Lynn encouraged us all to channel our inner Magnate, but they also commended how Agility can transform your career. We all know that Negotiation is a make-it-or-break-it skill, but Lynn and Patrick shared how you can finally master it. As Patrick and Lynn showed, Collaboration is vital for any career, and especially one in sales. Finally, the duo ended with the related importance of Exchanging Information. Before you go, be sure to check out Patrick's website, Elite Sales Institute. Early this year, Patrick Carter and Lynn Whitbeck began their incredibly valuable “PERFORMANCE” in Sales series, and somehow, it's already coming to a close! Over the last several months, these two sales experts have taught us their top sales power skills, as illustrated by their “PERFORMANCE” acronym. We've already explored the first ten letters – “Problem Solving,” “Engagement,” “Resilience,” “Flexibility,” “Originality,” “Resourcefulness,” “Magnate,” “Agility,” “Negotiation,” and "Collaboration" – and now the duo have reunited to dive into the final letter, “E,” representing the importance of “Exchanging Information.” They say that sharing is caring, and this rule extends to your sales career. How can an exchange of information position you for success? So, what is it that Patrick and Lynn mean by "exchanging information"? How is that helpful in your sales position? Part of it comes down to good old reciprocity. People like to help those who help them. You scratch my back, I'll scratch yours, as the saying goes. Instead of keeping useful info to yourself, it's better to spread the love - or, the knowledge. Then, when others have valuable information, they'll be happy to send it along to you. Now that's good karma! But more than feeling good about helping each other out, this information exchange will also make you more prepared to address potential issues, better represent your product or service, and communicate with your clients and colleagues. You'll be poised to help others, in turn leading to your own career's upward trajectory. How can you better facilitate the exchange of information? How do you know who to get info from and who to pass it along to? Moreover, how do you train yourself so this power skill becomes second nature? Lynn and Patrick explain all in our new podcast. Through their own illustrative stories and actionable steps to practice, you'll be an information-exchanging pro in no time!  https://vimeo.com/477374964 Before you go, be sure to check out Patrick's website, Elite Sales Institute. You can also follow Patrick on Twitter with the Elite Sales Institute: Where professional sales careers are created. While we've gotten through the entire “PERFORMANCE” in sales acronym, Lynn and Patrick still have one more episode left to share. Fall is here and that means renewed learning! For the last several months, sales leader Patrick Carter and our CEO Lynn Whitbeck have been working through their 12-part series, diving into the top sales power skills, as illustrated by their “PERFORMANCE” acronym. So far, we've explored the first eight letters – “Problem Solving,” “Engagement,” “Resilience,” “Flexibility,” “Originality,” “Resourcefulness,” “Magnate,” and "Agility" – and now the duo have reunited to explore our ninth letter, “N,” which stands for “Negotiation.” Indeed, this is one of the most important skills you'll need in order to excel in any career, and certainly in sales. Are you ready to negotiate your way to success? Most of us have probably heard that negotiation is a vital skill to develop. It's how you secure your hard-earned raises and promotions at work. It's how you reach agreements with family and friends so that everyone is satisfied. What makes it a power skill for the sales field specifically? Patrick and Lynn share examples of how negotiating has led to their own career success and closing sales. It's no exaggeration that negotiation is KEY to getting clients to a "yes"! But we hear you: Not everyone knows how to negotiate or feels comfortable doing so. If you fall into that group - or if you just want to improve this skill - you've come to the right place. Lynn and Patrick share plenty of tips to help you develop your own negotiating power skill. Trying out these simple exercises will make you a negotiation superstar. Eventually, your negotiation prowess will translate to leadership opportunities and an accelerated career path. Now that's certainly a win! Find out everything you need to know in the podcast above. Before you go, be sure to check out Patrick's website, Elite Sales Institute.
