With influences from the 1960s all the way to the age of modern rock, the Austrian band GLAZED CURTAINS is keeping the spirit of rock alive. With a modern twist of the rock genre comparable to bands like Highly Suspect, Badflower and Kid Kapichi, the band really encaptures what the essence of guitar music is. Their music is not only for the old school rock listener but also for the people who are into overdriven guitar music and for those who like to have a little party. Let yourself be thrown into an experience of ordinary live energy and emotions caused by the bitter sides of life that ultimately make it worth while. GLAZED CURTAINS is not afraid of talking about honest feelings, anxiety and social issues that many people might be scared of admitting. A GLAZED CURTAINS concert is the perfect place for expressing feelings and showing love. It creates a safe atmosphere of celebrating life but also a bonding feeling of respect towards each other and welcoming every person just the way they are. Punk rock has always had a history of being brash, standing up against oppressive and tyrannical ideologies & philosophies, as well as giving a voice to those who go against the political norm, in an up-front manner.Today, there is a British band doing just that with their music, refusing to pull a punch, giving us a glimpse into the plights of current-day British society. But, does it resonate with people all across the world? In this case, ABSOLUTELY!Ben & Eddie from the British punk band Kid Kapichi come to the Chord Progression Podcast for a short, to the point (very punk rock), interview before they release their new album, There Goes The Neighbourhood, on Mach 15th. We dive deep into:How the album bluntly paints a picture of the experiences of British society post-Brexit, and why being so overt lyrically successfully works in this case. Why the instrumental composition allows changes to the punk rock formula that gives each song a unique mental connection to the stories being told. The reason fans all across the world will be able to connect with this album, especially when it is experienced live. You want more? Jack Wilson, vocalist and guitarist for England's Kid Kapichi, are on the cusp of the new punk generation. Their third album, "There Goes The Neighborhood," which includes “Tamagotchi” and “Let's Get To Work,” is already drawing massive attention months before its release in March 2024. We talked about the song-building process, delivering profound ideas via danceable music, the rigorous task of making videos, British culture, and being an Arsenal supporter. Our special guests for this episode are Jack Wilson and Ben Beetham of Kid Kapichi. The band released their self-produced debut album This Time Next Year independently, during lockdown in 2021 and now have signed their first deal for the follow-up, entitled Here's What You Could Have Won. This new album is an excellent showcase for the band's bigger, punchier, ‘beat punk' sound, which was co-produced with Dom Craik from Nothing But Thieves. Now taking the UK rock scene by storm, and finally getting to bring these tracks to life on stage, the guys took some time out ahead of their European tour to talk to Vox about inspiration, their song writing process, playing live and of course their amp of choice – the AC30.

Back from the Dead. Dante Bonutto heads up the UK A&R department of Spinefarm Records, home to favourites of this podcast like Rammstein, Crown Lands, Kid Kapichi, Sleep Token, Anti-Flag, Creeper… I could go on. Basically, if a rock band are doing something interesting right now, they're probably signed to Spinefarm. But before he ended up in the big seat of the aforementioned, Dante served his time in music journalism, during the golden age of Kerrang! magazine. Then he founded RAW magazine. His is a life lived loud. He's also my favourite person to talk about Warren Zevon with on email on a Friday afternoon. Plenty to get into then!Watch this episode here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvOkJBvBLBM&t=21s Twitter - @jamesjammcmahon Substack - https://spoook.substack.com YouTube - www.youtube.com/channel/UC8Vf_1E1Sza2GUyFNn2zFMA Reddit - https://www.reddit.com/r/jamesmcmahonmusicpod/
There's an album I've really enjoyed this year. It's called Here's What You could Have Won and it's by the Hastings born punk band Kid Kapichi. It's shouty and funny and its songs do a pretty good job at squewering the grizzled mess that is England right now. I've always been a sucker for that kind of thing. Late era Gallows, Slaves, Carter USM, Sex Pistols, Billy Bragg. Englands bleeeeeeding. That sort of thing. And so I thought I'd check in with singer Jack Wilson before the year was out to talk gentrification, America's opiod crisis, corrupt politicians… and The Beatles. Because whatever shit we might have to endure, we've always got The Beatles. My gut is telling me that 2023 is going to be a big year for them. Not The Beatles, Kid Kapichi. All you need is love. And hate. Which is sometimes the same thing, I think...Join the Substack, won't you?

This week was August bank holiday weekend, which means ordinarily, it should have been the weekend that the Reading and Leeds festival, one of the longest running and largest music festivals in the world, took place. While the physical festival was called off for 2020 owing to health concerns over COVID-19, the Yellow Brit Road managed to secure passes to a very special edition of the festival: one that let us go back through the years and relive the best of live music at Richfield Avenue, Reading (and Bramham Park, Leeds)! We experienced some of the best the festival has to offer over the past years, or as much as we could in a single hour. We jumped into the crowd for enthralling performances and walked into some of the strangest interviews from the weekend. From Penetration and Sham 69 in the 70s, all the way to the Marsicans, Kid Kapichi, LION and Kofi Stone in 2019; from Slaves in the Pit to Wolf Alice, CHVRCHES and Bloc Party on the NME and Festival stages, we went over everything in time to catch our personal weekend's headliners: Arctic Monkeys, Rage Against the Machine, and Muse. Call that a weekend? Watch the performances again here! Catch the Yellow Brit Road live every Sunday from 8 to 9 PM on cfrc.ca! Full shows can be listened to in in CFRC's program archives for up to 3 months from broadcast.
