The constellation Gemini consists of two long lines of stars capped by two of the brighter stars in the night sky. Many cultures have seen these stars as two men. But the legend that endures is the Greek story of Castor and Pollux. The two bright stars bear their names. In the story, the twins had the same mother – Leda, the queen of Sparta. But they had different fathers. Castor was the son of the king – a mortal – while Pollux was the son of Zeus, the king of the gods. The boys were inseparable. They had many adventures together. They joined Jason and the other Argonauts in the search for the golden fleece, and saved their legendary boat during a nasty storm. But during a later battle, Castor was killed. Pollux was inconsolable. He begged Zeus to let him die so he could join Castor in the underworld. Moved by Pollux’s love for his brother, Zeus agreed to keep them together for all time. They would spend half of their time in the heavens, and the other half in the underworld – just like the stars of Gemini. The twins appear near the Moon the next couple of nights. The Moon aligns along the body of the twins tonight. Castor, the fainter twin, is to the left of the Moon at nightfall, with Pollux to the lower left. The giant planet Jupiter is passing through the constellation as well. It looks like an especially brilliant star. Tonight, it’s a little closer to the Moon than the twins are. This week Tom & Zeus review the 1992 Revenge Tour which was in support of their 16th studio album, Revenge. This is SIOL's 12th KISS tour reviewed. Revenge was released on May 19, 1992 and the tour began on April 23, 1992 in San Francisco in a club and ended December 20, 1992 This is known as the Revenge Era lineup. New Drummer Eric Singer joins KISS after the tragic death of beloved drummer, Eric Carr. The stage has a statute of liberty which changes during the show. KISS is now dressed in black leather and the "Demon" Gene Simmons is back! The setlist featured as many as 6 new songs from Revenge, and many of the classic songs from KISS. The setlist actually rotated ... imagine that! As usual, the guys breakdown the costumes, stage, set list and overall tour. This week Tom & Zeus open Season 8 of Shout It Out Loudcast with a review of the most quintessential KISS compilation, the 1978 "Double Platinum!" This SIOL's 12th compilation review. This was KISS' first compilation and came out in a period where KISS would release 7 albums in two years including 2 double albums, one of which is Double Platinum. This compilation covers songs from 1974 - 1977, containing containing 20 songs from the first 6 KISS studio albums. The album was certified platinum and was produced by the great Sean Delaney. He remixed the songs and made some controversial changes to many of the tracks, including a new disco version of "Strutter" called "Strutter '78" but lovingly called "Disco Strutter" on SIOL. The album cover with its silver color KISS logos and red Double Platinum writing is legendary. When opened there were embossed images of the band members that were fascinating to view. The guys breakdown the track selection and then rank the compilation album and cover versus the previous reviewed compilation albums. A classic album from the classic era of KISS. I am Guthrie Chamberlain, and we are on Day 2781 of our Trek. The Purpose of Wisdom-Trek is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, and to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Our current series of Theology Thursday lessons is written by theologian and teacher John Daniels. I have found that his lessons are short, easy to understand, doctrinally sound, and applicable to all who desire to learn more of God's Word. John's lessons can be found on his website theologyinfive.com. Today's lesson is titled A Critical Examination of Alexander Hislop: Why His Teachings Should Be Ignored. Alexander Hislop's The Two Babylons has long held sway in certain evangelical and fundamentalist circles. Its central claim—that Roman Catholicism is a disguised continuation of ancient Babylonian paganism—has influenced generations of Christians suspicious of the Catholic Church. Hislop argues that practices and symbols within Catholicism were derived from ancient worship of figures like Nimrod and Semiramis. Yet as modern scholarship has consistently demonstrated, these claims collapse under scrutiny. This article examines why Hislop's theories are deeply flawed, historically inaccurate, and ultimately harmful. The first segment is: A Foundation of Faulty Methodology. From the outset, Hislop's work suffers from methodological failure. Rather than employing credible historical sources, linguistic analysis, or archaeological evidence, Hislop leans heavily on speculation and forced connections. He draws parallels based on little more than superficial similarity—treating visual resemblance or name echoes as definitive proof of religious continuity. A striking example is Hislop's attempt to link the Virgin Mary with the Babylonian figure Semiramis. Rather than relying on historical context or primary sources, he builds his case on tenuous similarities and conjecture. This pattern repeats throughout the book. Hislop's conclusions are based on circular reasoning, and his work lacks the kind of critical evaluation expected in even the most basic academic research. The second segment is: Inventing the Nimrod-Semiramis Narrative. At the core of Hislop's argument is the narrative that Nimrod and Semiramis served as the original model for all pagan deities and that this archetype was smuggled into Christianity. According to Hislop, the Catholic portrayal of Mary and Jesus as a mother and child pair is simply a continuation of Babylonian goddess worship. This idea, however, has no basis in historical fact. There is no ancient evidence linking Nimrod, a biblical figure mentioned briefly in Genesis, to Semiramis, who appears centuries later in Assyrian and Greco-Roman sources. Semiramis is never presented as Nimrod's wife in any ancient record. Nor is she depicted as a fertility goddess or a “Queen of Heaven” in a context that would support Hislop's claims. Instead, she is often described as a powerful queen or military leader, not a religious figure. The pairing of Nimrod and Semiramis is entirely Hislop's invention. Furthermore, Nimrod himself is not attested in any ancient Mesopotamian inscriptions as a god, cult figure, or object of worship. Monday, 19 January 2026 He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red'; Matthew 16:2 “And answering, He said to them, ‘Evening having come, you say, “Good weather!”, for the heaven, it is red'” (CG). In the previous verse, the Pharisees and Sadducees approached Jesus, asking for a sign from heaven. He now responds to their request, saying, “And answering, He said to them, ‘Evening having come, you say, “Good weather!” A unique word is seen here, eudia, good weather. It is derived from eu, well or good, and the alternate of Zeus, Dia (the accusative case), the god of the weather. Jesus remarks to them that in the evening, it is normal for people, including the scribes and Pharisees, to walk outside and deduce that good weather is ahead. The words are colloquial. One might walk out with a wife, a friend, or, when his neighbor is outside, look up and simply say, “Good weather!” That is next followed by Jesus' explanation, as He says, “for the heaven, it is red.” The clause contains another new word, purrazó, to be red or, intransitively, to redden. The word is only found in this verse and the next. It is derived from purrhos, fire-like, and thus red. Jesus' words are axiomatic. People observe the sky and understand its regular patterns. Life application: In Florida, when the wind may start racing from the south during winter, there is a ton of moisture and heat being drawn up from the tropics. This warm (or even hot) muggy air tells the locals that a cold front is on its way. As the front nears, the wind turns to a west breeze. For those who surf, they start waxing their surfboards. Eventually, the wind switches to the north, and a line of often very heavy rain will come rushing through. That is the same moisture that was being drawn up from the south. It is now being returned to the people, often with violent thunder, lightning accompanying it as the cold air meets the tropical air. Very quickly, the temperatures begin to drop, the waves build, the surfers surf, and the bays that are along the Gulf Coast between the islands and the mainland will drop many feet in level, sometimes so much that fish are left lying on the bay's bed, flopping around, waiting to be picked up by the thousands. People know these things will come about, and they anticipate the changes coming simply because they understand the obvious nature of what is occurring. At such times, the bays can be so drained that one could walk across them without it getting more than knee deep. This can all happen in a few hours. It is how the Red Sea passage is described in Exodus 14, where a strong east wind blew all that night. Anyone who thinks the story is implausible has never seen the events in Florida at times as described above. Wind can be a strong force in drying out deep bodies of water. Believe the Bible. It is reliable. Lord God, we know that You can do all things, including drying out the sea for Israel to pass through it on foot. You even told us how You did it. Help us in our times of unbelief about things that we don't have an explanation for. Be with us in our times of weakness and doubt. Amen.

La guerra de Troya fue el principal pilar sobre el cual se construyó la identidad cultural, ética y política de la antigua Grecia. Este conflicto, ubicado históricamente entre los siglos XIII y XII a. C., marcó la transición entre la era de los héroes y el mundo de los mortales. A través de las epopeyas de Homero, la civilización griega encontró un espejo para proyectar sus dilemas morales y su sistema educativo, la “paideia”, que moldeó el pensamiento occidental durante milenios. Este ciclo mítico es mucho más que una una crónica de batallas, es un tratado sobre la condición humana y la relación de los hombres con lo divino. En la cosmovisión griega, esta guerra no fue obra de los hombres, sino una orquestación divina que partió del mismo Zeus para reequilibrar el cosmos y reducir la población de semidioses. El conflicto se originó en las nupcias de Peleo y Tetis donde la diosa Eris sembró la discordia con una manzana dorada. El posterior juicio de Paris, en el que el príncipe troyano eligió el amor de Helena sobre el poder de Hera o la sabiduría de Atenea, desencadenó el rapto de la reina de Esparta y activó el Juramento de Tindáreo, que unió a los reinos aqueos en una coalición liderada por el poderoso Agamenón de Micenas. La expedición griega reunió a figuras que personifican diversos ideales del heroísmo helénico: Aquiles, el guerrero que busca la gloria eterna a costa de una vida breve; Ulises, símbolo de la astucia, la estrategia y la inteligencia; Áyax, la encarnación de la fuerza y Agamenón, cuya autoridad se ve constantemente empañada por su propia soberbia y falta de tacto diplomático. Los preparativos de la contienda estuvieron marcados por la tragedia del sacrificio de Ifigenia, un episodio oscuro que ahonda en los límites de la ambición política frente a los vínculos familiares y la implacable voluntad de los dioses. La Ilíada narra tan sólo un breve periodo del último año de la guerra de Troya. Se centra esencialmente en la cólera de Aquiles tras ser humillado por Agamenón. Este relato nos habla de la tensión entre la autoridad de los reyes y el mérito individual basado en la excelencia. Tras la muerte de Patroclo, su compañero más querido, Aquiles regresa al combate poseído por una furia ciega para matar a Héctor, el noble defensor de Troya. Pero la epopeya no concluye con violencia, sino con un acto de profunda humanidad: el encuentro secreto entre Aquiles y el anciano rey Príamo, donde ambos reconocen su sufrimiento compartido y la fragilidad de la vida humana bajo el peso del destino. La guerra se libró simultáneamente en el plano humano y el divino. Los dioses del Olimpo intervinieron activamente y llegaron a sufrir incluso heridas en el combate, lo que demuestra la estrecha unión entre ambos mundos en esta mitología arcaica. Finalmente, la ciudad no cayó por la fuerza bruta, sino por la “metis”, la astucia de Ulises y su ingeniosa estratagema del caballo de madera. El saqueo de la ciudad, el accidentado regreso de los héroes, el asesinato de Agamenón a manos de su esposa o la larga travesía de diez años de Ulises, simbolizan el fin definitivo de la era heroica y el comienzo de un nuevo mundo. Más allá del mito, la Guerra de Troya funcionó como el motor de la unidad griega frente a lo no griego, lo bárbaro. Muchos siglos después se encontró la verdadera Troya. El arqueólogo alemán que dio con ella, Heinrich Schliemann, descubrió que no era una, sino varias. Hoy en día el relato mítico de Troya se mantiene como una síntesis de todo aquello que nos hace humanos: el amor, el poder, la muerte y el honor. También es la historia de cómo un pueblo antiguo construyó su identidad a través de un relato épico que aconteció en un momento histórico convulso, el del final de la edad del bronce.
